Mayday Dog Training

I found Mayday dog training off of yelp. We were very impressed with the reviews. I gave him a call…read morefor a prospective service dog I wanted to train. He was very honest with me about his thought after hearing her traits. Thus we waited until we could get a different dog. He won my trust over by not immediately saying it would work out. As I was fully ready to pay the amount necessary to train the dog. I was nervous as I didn't know anything more than what the reviews and speaking to him on the phone before doing the full package of training. I have heard nightmare stories of folks spending thousands and the dog not being properly trained. YOU GUYS! This guy and his staff are awesome. Don't look any further! Nick has amazing communication. He was so patient with my daughter at pick up, and was very interactive and good at instructing her with the dog. Our dog is training for service. We couldn't be more impressed with what they accomplished in time we trained in! He also really cares about the dogs, and gave a really comprehensive lesson in implementing the training at pick up to make sure we understood how to get what is expected out of her. We asked a lot of questions, and he was very good at answering and explain the 'why's'. It is one thing to be a good dog trainer, and another to be a good instructor. He is both. He also made sacrifices for our family in time of great need to us. Definitely a business with integrity, with down to earth trainers. You will be given honest advice. Mayday dog training is here to create teams. As such you have a bargain to uphold to your dog to keep them in shape and trained up. They are the real deal. Pleased to be giving them your business! S

Learning her first official task as well as all the ground work for future ones. Communication from Nick during Sayde's stay was incredible! He kept me up to date with pictures and information throughout the entire experience. He, even still months later, checks in on us and ensures we are still making progress and that their training remains in place. A quality hard to find in many training programs. I would highly recommend Mayday Dog Training for anyone looking to improve their dogs obedience or complex training.

From the moment we walked in they would greet her by name and made sure she was comfortable throughout her stay! She loved her play days and came home fresh after her bath. Zella crossed the rainbow bridge this week. I called to share the news with them and cancel her upcoming reservation. They were so kind and compassionate towards us which we truly appreciated! Thank you again for all the love you gave Zella when we were out of town! We highly recommend trusting your pets in their care while traveling!

I gave this review one star and wish I could give it ZERO stars!!! That is because throughout my…read morewhole time working there, I've had continuous issues with Valeria Alvarez. She is a team lead who acts as if she is a manager. She acts as a self appointed manager even though that isn't her role nor job. She does not know how to speak to people, she is very verbally aggressive and was constantly antagonizing me and other coworkers. One of the run ins that I had with her was, right before I quit I had gotten sick (due to frequent changes in weather), and was trying to call in because of that fact. She informed me that I had to have a doctor's note to be able to call out. The issue with that is that we only get paid $10/hr and doctor visits are very expensive. It doesn't make sense to have to provide a doctor's note for a call-out because of me being sick. Especially because before that timeframe, it was failed to be communicated with me that it is a requirement to provide a doctor's note for a call-out due to me being under the weather. Not to mention that for all the work that we do, $10/hr is not a livable wage especially in this economy. Valería is the reason that I quit working here at Canine Country Club. She made it a very hostile work environment and spoke to me and other coworkers poorly and in a disrespectful manner often with no repercussions. She has had multiple instances of snapping at employees, belittling them, gossiping to people that she's close with and walking away from people while a conversation is actively being had. It should also be known that she has been put on leave previously for the same exact behavior and was allowed to come back as if nothing happened. I didn't report her behavior towards me because, I was scared of possible retaliation and the fear of my situation not being taken seriously. With all that being said, I think that Valería Alvarez treats her job as if it's an obligation and not a privilege. She should not be able to continue to treat people this way with no repercussions. The fact that she was even allowed back in the first place AFTER the first time as if nothing happened is repulsive and disturbing.

We initially thought we'd foster her for adoption due to her dog aggression issues. After working with Travis, we decided togive Rosie a forever home ourselves. We brought Travis in to privately train her so she didn't have to deal with the stress of a group setting and because we wanted a tailored training program. With Lone Star Dog Training, we received an excellent job. Travis educated us about how training is important and what results he felt we could see. Over the course of 4 months, Rosie went from being aggressive toward our other dogs to feeling safe and comfortable with them. She's even adopted our 12 year old border terrier as her sister. Rosie has progressed from a frightened stray who did not wag her tail or understand how to take affection, to bounding and leaping with joy when she sees her people. She now seeks out our affections and looks forward to spending time with us. If not for Lone Star Dog Training, we would not have decided to keep her. It showed us what a wonderful, fun and loving dog Rosie is. Thank you, Travis , for your dedication and patience with us.

Those two…read moreweeks with Shelly took our dog's basic skills and made her a more dependable and responsive dog. The environment, instruction and style of training Shelly provides is exactly what our dog needed and responded great to. We asked Shelly to focus on recall (our hound mix very scent/prey driven) and after picking up our pup we are able to take her hiking, or off leash, without fear-even if there's a squirrel or lizard. Fast forward a year later we used Shelmar again for an extended stay for our dog since we would be out of town for two weeks. Our dog came home exhausted, happy and better mannered with the skills Shelly initially instilled in her. She slept on the couch for almost two days after bringing her home. Shelmar kennels provides a great environment for an outdoorsy and active dog. We have used many different dog boarding places and each respond differently to our pup. She's a high energy handful and a big strong dog. This can be an issue for dog boarding staff at times. But Shelmar Kennels more than provides excellent individualized care for our dog. The property is beautiful and meticulously well kept. With the impressive pond and big dock that the property boasts it's no wonder why our dog has so much fun there. Now when our dog starts to act up in any way we jokingly tell her that we are going to send her back to Ms. Shelly to straighten her up! Even though Shelmar is on the other side of Houston, that two hour round trip drive is more than worth it for the care our pup receives
