I adopted a three year old German Shepherd who had the concept of basic obedience down, but really struggled around distractions outside of the home. On his walks he would pull towards any smell that caught his attention, and would absolutely love to greet dogs by pulling towards them. My little guy had lived all his life in homes with his own yard. However, I decided to move into an apartment inside the loop after my divorce. I knew that this would be a transition for him, and for both his safety and that of other dogs, that I needed to get help to improve his focus and obedience around distractions. I'd been in contact with Nick for over a year prior to taking Max to him for training. I'd actually recommended a couple of friends take their dogs to Nick prior to me actually adopting Max, and they both had excellent results. It's been 10 months since Max had his 2 week off leash board and train with Nick, and I can't begin to tell you how many compliments people continue to give me every time they see Max. I can easily heal with him both on and off leash among other dogs and humans in highly distracting public places. Nick and his team do a phenomenal job with both obedience training and training out bad habits and assisting with socialization for dogs. Nick tailors his training to your dog's motivations. He uses mostly positive reinforcement techniques, and will also teach you how to properly use training tools such as prong collars and e-collars. Max absolutely adores Nick, and has convinced me that I've found the best dog trainer in the greater Houston/Katy/Fullshear area. Also, remember the key -- no matter how well the dog has been trained, if you do not keep up with the training and reinforcement after sending your dog off to board and training or training classes, your dog will not reach his/her full potential. In-Depth: When we got our Rottweiler puppy, I wanted the best trainer around. Period. Our Rottweiler joined our family to be a companion and protection. After a lot of research, I decided to give Nick a call to find out more about his program and he talked to me for a good hour about his program and to give me tips. Even after the phone call, he remained available to answer one-off questions I had. I really appreciated that because it made me comfortable. What I really like about Mayday Dog Training is that Nick doesn't rely on clickers (another popular method), but instead uses a combination of positive reinforcement and gentle corrections. We went with the board and train program for 5 days. You may ask, "What is 5 days going to do?" After calling several other board and train centers, I asked how many dogs they trained at a time, the majority them had near 20 dogs at a time for 2 weeks up to a full month. Nick only takes 2 dogs at a time for board and train and he puts many, many hours into the personalized care and training into each dog. Nick kept in touch with us throughout King's stay to update us on his progress. Upon welcoming my puppy back into our home after a 5-day stay with Nick, I am confident that I found what I was looking for: the best dog trainer in the greater Houston area. I could tell he put a lot of work into my puppy. When we go out in public, people comment all the time how well behaved he is. He understands to sit and wait for people to approach him, he now knows how to walk on a leash, and he can "place" for up to 45 minutes (and we are growing that number). First and foremost, I would like to give a huge thanks to Nick and his staff at Mayday Dog Training. His skills and commitment have truly changed our families future with our dog Ace. We adopted Ace from a Houston Rescue after we instantly fell in love with him. We are his second rescue family at age 8 months. Although he is a sweet boy, he understood ZERO commands. We were at a loss and with two full-time working parents we just didn't have the time to commit to fully training/re-training a puppy. We are experienced dog owners with up to three dogs in the house at a time, but we just didn't know what to do. We found Mayday training online and after reading some miracle reviews we thought it was our best chance for Ace. We paid for the two week of on leash/off leash in house training and it was worth every penny. Nick was nice enough to send us video updates and after just three days we could tell that Ace was well on his way. After two weeks of training we met with Nick and Ace to spend an hour to review all of his new commands and training. We were truly stunned to see the change in Ace. His temperament and energy had been harnessed into a smart and controlled part of the family. Still the same sweet dog, but now he understands commands and can sit quietly in our living room with family and our other dog running around him for 30-45 minutes. Our very disobedient mini goldendoodle was about to become an outside dog because he was jumping on everyone in sight and tearing up everything he came across. I couldn't take him on a walk without him jumping up on everyone that approached us and pulling us while walking. Our walks usually ended highly stressful. I was on a goldendoodle page on fb and saw where several people had taken their pups to Nick @ Mayday and had great results. I was willing to do about anything including taking the 2 hours drive to bring my dog to Nick. We did the 2 week off leash training and I am VERY happy to say that my baby is living amongst us in the house without tearing things up. He minds and will stay on his bed or follow me and lay on the kitchen floor watching me while I cook or lay down to watch me fold clothes. He can play with my nephew and kids without trampling them. He also goes with us just about everywhere we go because he is that well behaved. He was our family dog before but now he is actively a part of our family! It has truly been a 100% turn around. All good things take work so we know we have to stay on top of the reinforcements and training so we do continue to work with him everyday, but it's usually as simple of just making him mind us in the house. I'm a first time dog owner and have no experience with training. I and my friend have seen all the good reviews about Nick and decided to send our puppies for a 5 day training at his place. I am sure my 4 month old Havanese(Harry) had a great time there and feel that was the best decision I made for Harry. I could see the happiness in Harry when he went back for a follow up session. I was out of the country when I left Harry with Nick but never felt I was disconnected. Nick made sure that I was updated everyday on how Harry was doing. He called Harry "Cute little guy with a big attitude" .. lol. The main challenge I had was to make him stay at a place. He's small and all over the place all the time. He wasn't even potty trained and I set up a pen for him with his bed, puppy pads and toys when am out for work. I work 8 hours a day and felt it tough to train him. After coming back from Nick, NO ACCIDENTS at all !!! Nick provided all the tips on how to make sure Harry behaves well. I now take him out to a shopping mall and leave him at one place and say "PLACE" while am shopping around in the store.. he doesn't move at all for any distractions. Am simply amazed by the way he listens now. He's a lot well-behaved than what he was before. Harry also learnt some tactics like crawl and spin. Nick's impeccable trained exceeded all my expectations! He was able to tame my wild beast of a dog. He is a born hunting dog that is known to be intensely wild, but I wanted my dog to be a pet not a worker. Nick made that for me! I used Mayday last year for my Jack Russel "Lucy", but opted for the overnight training for 5 days. I had a previous so called trainer that I thankfully only used twice before I noticed the damage he was doing to my dog in his training methods. Nick had to undo the harm this guy caused. Price was reasonable for what he accomplished as well. I'm not much of a poster, but felt Nick deserved kudos for what he accomplished with my ill mannered no boundary JRT (which was my fault to begin with). I let her get away with anything and had no idea how to control her so that she and I were both happy. Nick changed all that, and gave me good tips on how to reinforce what he taught her. I have yet to bring her back for a follow up, due to time, but will soon, as I need a refresher course LOL. I still feel guilty about that other trainer and how he made her fearful, but thank God Nick was able to undo the damage and turned my dog into a well mannered sweet companion. Having a rescue dog was a new experience for us. I always started with puppies and had no difficulty training them. This little girl survived the Tax Flood of 2016 and Hurricane Harvey in 2017. She was displaced several times and escaped three times only to be caught by animal control. I don't know what traumas she went through but she is terrified of water and she is half Labrador. Long story short, after being bitten twice and my husband once while on walks passing dogs we decided to get help. We heard about Nick and took our girl to meet him. She did not like people coming near her or me. Nick was patient with her and we met several times so our girl would be comfortable staying with him for a week and hopefully not fear being abandoned. Nick worked his doggie magic and our girl walked nicely and obeyed commands previously ignored. She even let strangers come up to her. When golf carts became an issue, Nick came over and walked with us to train us on the proper correction technique to keep her calm and her teeth inside her mouth instead of on our legs. I am so impressed with Nicks results with my 2 young large breed boys! He is very good at what he does and took the time to speak with me and even come meet my dogs at my house before I made a decision to hire him. We welcomed a new addition to our family recently. I am a first time Dog Owner, and My family had no experience training dogs, Justin who is a 5-month-old Aussie was hands full. We had very tough time making him to stay at a place and he would never stay in his crate. We really struggled to keep him disciplined. My friend and I who got our fur babies on same day did some search and found about Nick and Mayday. We both sent out puppies for a 5-day board and train Program and was more than happy with the end results. From the day we got him back he sleeps over night in the Crate with no barking. Nick and his team work miracles! We rescued a year old Aussie Retriever who was a happy and loving bundle of completely untrained energy. She was a terror jumping on adults and getting the zoomies all over the house. Two weeks with Mayday and Zoey came home with manners and we came home with the tools needed to keep up her training. The best part has been the service. Zoey was super well taken care of (and crate trained for us while she was there!) Nick is very responsive with small tips and tricks by text. He scheduled our drop off, pick up, and our follow up around our schedule and even did our follow up in a public location so Zoey (and most importantly - me and my 8 year old) could get help with more leash training. Birdie was a rescue from CAPS, and she is VERY sweet and loving - but was not to other dogs. We could not walk her anywhere NEAR another dog because she would lunge after them and about rip our arms out of our sockets. After 5 days at Mayday Dog Training, I am watching a video of her with 6 other dogs. All sitting quietly in their places. No cage. No handler. Just all the dogs quietly hanging out together. Each one in their place. I can't believe the transformation. Birdie is a different dog!! Nick is great! We got our dog from a shelter, he had a really tough time adjusting to his name. He wouldn't sit or listen to anything we said, he would just look at us funny and every time we put him in his crate at night he would go crazy. He wouldn't use the restroom until he found the "perfect" spot (which would take a while). He was also "free fed" when we got him. Thanks to Nick, we can now enjoy our new and improved, well behaved "Alexander The Great". I had nick training my Terrier mix (7 months old) about a month ago. Before I had trouble getting Harley to listen to me, she had accidents in the house frequently, and jump on people when meeting people. I did the 2 week on/off leash week boarding. When I got her back I couldn't believe how much more disciplined she was. I can take her to the park without a leash on and she'll listen to me when I use her commands. She has not had a single accident in the house since coming home and behaves well while I'm at home and doesn't jump on my guest anymore when people come over or in public. The training was a little expensive but I felt like it was a great investment and I think Nick's training was worth it. I would definitely recommend Nick services to anyone and if I get another dog I will definitely use him again. read more

I can't say enough about Nick. I adopted a border collie mix to be trained as my service dog. I Googled trainers in Katy and found Nick May. My dog Charlie picked up on her basic training rather quickly with Nick. I didn't always follow his rules but Charlie did, lol!
