Smoked meat plate with rice underneath, another scoop of rice, and potato-mac salad.
    Violet H.

One experience with Aloha Plate so far, and it was a good one. Indulged in the smoked meat plate, which came with rice underneath the meat (all the better to sop up the juices), another scoop of rice, and choice of salad. (I had the potato-mac salad.) The delicious smoke smell seeped out of the container, thus constituting cruel and unusual punishment - at least for as long as it took me to get back to my desk. There was no need for the knife that I had picked up. The smoked pork nearly disintegrated to the touch of the fork. The meat had some fat but was decidedly not overly-fatty. It was a generous portion so I was quite sated afterwards. I try to eat less rice, but I had to go for the grains underneath that had soaked up the meat and sauce drippings. The potato-mac salad was standard issue, good, but nothing outstanding. The window on the truck is placed up high. I could only reach the counter when my arm was stretched out all the way. Fortunately staff can reach out the window to you. I was told there is always a variety of poke on the menu, but that the non-poke main dishes rotate. I look forward to the truck returning to my workplace so I can try other dishes. It was not only tasty but was a good value for the money, given how much food one got.

Furikake rice + Korean chicken + potato & macaroni salad + cabbage
    Ruby S.

I've finally found the perfect Korean Chicken plate. Here's why...when you taste the sauce, there's a twist, not the expectant kick. Sauce is flavorful and pairs well with Furikake rice. Same delicious sauce is ideal for a tasty fried rice. Chicken is tender, able to taste marination, one bite into crispy skin is so tempting, that I finished all ten pieces in a matter of minutes. Potato and mac salad is to die for with unique flavors and seasonings. This is the first side dish that tastes yummy with a bed of cabbage. Without a doubt, cabbage adds a nice crunch to salad. Salad also complements Korean chicken and Furikake rice. Meal portion and excellent customer service is certainly worth $10. I'm in heaven with this local plate for lunch or dinner.

winners of season 4 Amazing Food Truck Race

I've been a fan of the Amazing Food Truck Race since the beginning. I've been bias cheering for asian teams that appear and don't win. It was shameful when one asian team was disqualified for cheating. Now, the fourth season, there's an asian team and they're are from Hawaii. Aloha Plate won that season well representing the islands. I was so proud. More so, I wanted to eat their food. That day finally came this past Friday at Eat The Streets China. We came early right at the 4:00pm opening parking right in the lot. We like to walk around to see who is new. It had been a few months since last we came and were looking forward to some good eats. As we come almost full circle I recognize Aloha Plate. My mind is made up where to eat. Looking over the menu and there are many delicious entrees but I settle on Seafood Chowder with Opah belly BLT slider and a firecracker Aioli pepper. The taste was out of this world with several layers of flavor but not overpowering. The chowder was really hot. Could not eat it alone unless you bit the sandwich first. I wanted to try other selections but I had plans for dinner later and did not want to spoil my appetite. This was just an appetizer and a good one at that. There are two things that stop me from giving it the 5th star. One, wish there was more of the Aioli peppers. I ate that one up in one bite that left nothing for the rest of the meal. Two, I did feel it a little bit over price. Now, ETS is pricey to begin with but I felt this was over that. I'm willing to put out the extra bucks for special events like ETS but I don't want to go over that. Round Two coming up.

It's funny how the Food Channel can influence our lives. Guy Fieri's DDD show sparked lines at a number of local spots and, unlike his mostly just okay mainland picks, most are pretty solid here. About a year ago, Tyler Florence hosted a food truck competition that featured this group who won that event. One common denominator in their travels to a number of cities is that Hawaii transplants supported. Ohana on the road indeed! This event was their one of their first openings since coming home after WINNING their truck. With a line about fifteen deep, I waited to place my order at their tables setup in front of the truck. When I reached the table, the noodles with the prawns was already sold out, leaving this as the best remaining choice. Co-owner Lanai took my order and said that this fish would cost me $25.00 in a restaurant... you raised the bar a bit, bro. "Hook 'n Line Special" - Seared marinated "Uka", Asian veggies, spiced soy butter, Firecracker Aioli, $15.00 (http://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q) - Fish was nicely pan fried with deep marinade flavors and the veggies were nice and crunchy the way I like them. Not sure whether it was a mixup, but had some chashu pieces underneath (not listed in above description)... or perhaps they ran out of fish?! The fish did not disappoint, but wish there was a little more of it. I enjoyed my meal and learned that the slow moving line was because each order is actually cooked to order. It makes a difference as many other vendors were merely constructing plates from a hot plate. Not wanting to hold up my patient friends, I took my plate back to the hotel and happily found that it was still warm. 4 solid stars as I reserve the 5th star for the next time when I hopefully try that prawn noodle dish! Way to represent, guys!

Their bacon cheeseburger nachos at eat the street bacon. It was okay
    Marlee K.

I admit that I wanted to try aloha plate because I saw them win on food networks america food truck race (haha). I have tried to get their plates at one eat the street but I came later and their line was kind of long. So great luck that I came early and no line! It was eat the street bacon themed! Whooo bacon! Their bacon themed dish was bacon cheeseburger nachos which was okay but I actually really wanted to try their pork belly roast pork with gravy. So towards the end of the night, I decided to try and get that plate. This time the wait was a little longer and I was tired but I really wanted to try it (haha). And omg good thing I did! So I brought it home and it looked messy because it was moving around in the bag. It was delicious!!! The pork was so soft and juicy that it fell apart so easily, it was a great paring with the gravy! This dish redeemed them and I definitely want to try their other dishes. There are times where you should give a place another chance, I'm Happy I did! :D So my suggestion is if you see them at an eat the street, get a couple friends to buy their themed dish and one of their regular dishes. So you might get the best of both worlds :)

Kaibi Shortrib Curry - very flavorful

I found Aloha Plate after a co-worker told me that Pearlridge Mall had food trucks on the lot. I actually went out to get Mexican food but since I followed a bit of their Food Race journey I had to try their food. I finally decided on the Kalbi Shortrib Curry plate (was so excited I forgot to ask if they had brown rice) which sounded so ono. It was a huge plate - tender and tasty! Very satisfied and I look for to this coming weekend to try something different

Tried Aloha Plate at the spicy Eat the Street festival and I was sadly disappointed. I was initially super excited to go to the festival because I love food trucks and I love spicy food.. so what could be better?! I ordered the Sriracha garlic shrimp and shoyu chicken. The man taking orders knew absolutely nothing. I asked him three times what "shoyu" was and all he told me was that it's a sauce.. no further description even though I told him I've never had it/heard of it. Ordered it on a whim anyway. The chicken was good and tender but the shrimp was not enjoyable. The shrimp was extremely over cooked and had basically no flavor. Wouldn't go to this food truck again.

Aloha Plate food truck! It's going down on a Friday night. #Onolicious

I got to try the delicious flavors of the Aloha plate food truck. I ordered the spicy ahi poke bowl. The poke was delicious! They used basic ingredients but they executed the flavor nicely. Nice lil spice to each bite and it was reasonable priced and the portion was generous! I can't wait to try some other items on the menu!

    3 Kailua Pork tacos $10
    Xavier B.

This truck is now parking by my job so I had to check them out. I ordered the $10 Kailua pork tacos. You get three tacos packed with pork, the flavor is delicious and I believe there is a Siracha mayonnaise at the bottom that gives it a little kick, topped with tomatoes, green onions and wonton sticks. The tortilla is delicious itself but the problem with one tortilla is that all those juices from the Pork and sauce is going to rip the tortilla after the first bite or if it sits too long. One extra tortilla should make it golden but delicious none the less just make sure you get a fork or if you like eating with your fingers, have it!

It's funny how in the world we live in now, everyone wants things NOW, at the drop of a dime. I'm happy to see that these amazing group of people, Aloha Plate, actually take time to make & prepare food as it should be. Perfect. I don't mind waiting, when I know I'm getting quality food, and knowing where my food is coming from, how awesome is that?! Chef Adam genuinely sees the potential in our local farmers here in our community. Buying local, supporting local. When you put all these elements together, it really doesn't matter that I have to wait a while longer to get the freshest food our island has to offer. Aloha Plate, you guys are doing a helluva good job. Your efforts to support our community really comes through in the food you put out! A job well done!! My favorites: HULI HULI Chicken Tacos, Venison Chili Moco, and the fish with shellfish butter. BROKE DA MOUF!! Desserts are EXCELLENT TOO!! Cheeee!

The Pork Belly Adobo Moco. $11. Strong vinegar taste. Not worth it for the price. Mac salad strong taste of white wine.

I was surprised to see the place pretty empty on a Friday night around 7. I went to the bar to order take out and the guy working was really nice and took my takeout order. I will say it smelled amazing in the restaurant. Food took about 10 mins to come out. The catfish was great, two pretty big pieces very well seasoned. The Mac and Cheese and Yams was also pretty good. I will say the Mac tasted better than it looked and I only say that because at first glance it didn't seem to have much cheese but I was wrong. The corn bread tasted good but was dry. I warmed it and added some butter and that didn't trick. The only thing I personally wasn't a fan of was the greens. They weren't necessarily bad but like Keith Lee says I don't know if I'm their target audience. They tasted a bit sweet and there was something else in the seasoning that I wasn't a huge fan of but couldn't quite put my finger on. I almost forgot the plate came with "yellow seasoned rice" which is under the fish on the Mac side. Honestly it's a free inclusion so not super fair to judge it. Everything in the picture was about $47 bucks. In my opinion that's a bit high and I'm guessing that's because it's in Waikīkī. I definitely plan to go back especially to try the Happy Hour, and I'd like to dine in to see how that goes.

I believe that they worker said, "I appreciate you!" Wow! That's very nice of him! We took the plate home (it was too windy to sit alongside the busy sidewalk) and discussed the tasty ribs, sweet (molasses?) Baked beans and yummy green beans with smoked turkey. Mmm! Jollof Rice came with Oxtail & Jerk Chicken so we could try both and they were seasoned immaculately. The Jollof rice has some heat that builds as you eat it and the oxtail was a hefty piece. The jerk chicken had a nice spice & sear to it, it provided a nice balance to the fatty oxtail. There is also pieces of plantain that come with this plate. Fufu is neutral flavored pounded yam (comparable texture to a stickier mashed potato) - It pairs well with the smokey, earthy & spicy flavors of the Egusi Soup. The soup is very hearty and more akin to a stew with how much protein & veggies are in the bowl. My total came out to $51.00 for these three items.

It seemed like there was a lot of miscommunication between the staff of 4 throughout the event. From where I was standing, everyone was trying their best, but it didn't seem like there was a clear system in place. The person in charge appeared to be focused on directing staff, but the overall flow never really improved. The ordering process also became confusing. It didn't seem like there was a reliable way to track what each customer had ordered, which led to people receiving food they didn't purchase. About an hour into the event, several menu items had already sold out. My group ordered oxtail with fufu and Egusi with fufu, but because they had run out of several food, we were served fish, one piece of jerk chicken, egusi, and gari instead. Gari is very different from fufu, so it wasn't an equivalent substitute for us. We also had to wait over an Hour to get the actual food. To their credit, the staff apologized for the issues and offered a $5 refund, which I appreciate. I know events like this can be challenging, and I don't think anyone intended for things to go this way. Better planning, a more organized ordering system, and keeping track of customer orders would have made a huge difference. I genuinely hope they take the feedback to heart because the food itself has a lot of potential. I'd be willing to give them another chance if these organizational issues are addressed.
