I took my little Aiko here and they did an amazing job! The cut they did on her really suits her, they got rid of her tear stains and the shampoo or perfume they used on her smelled heavenly! I loved the scent. They also sent me a picture of her through email afterwards. Because it was my first time there they gave me a discount and I only paid 40 something dollars for everything. I liked that they were very thorough and took their time to take care of my little Aiko. It took about 3 hours. Only problem is, there is no waiting area so its only good for drop off and pick up. At first the japanese lady at the front didn't seem very friendly but maybe there was just a language barrier. read more

I can not say enough wonderful things about aloha dog. The staff was friendly and attentive to our small dog. We used their boarding service and my dog was happy clean and well fed. My dog is usually pretty hostile to strange people but lived the staff at aloha dog. I also loved being able to see pictures of my dog throughout the day. I had to leave Hawaii and I will miss this great location. I wouldn't use any other service for my dog then this one. read more

I really wanted to like this place, but I don't think I'll ever go back. I arrived 10 minutes early for an evaluation for my two dogs. As soon as I arrived, one of the ladies there started yelling "muri, muri" (unreasonable) and pointing at one of my dogs. I guess she didn't realize that quite a few people in Hawaii speak Japanese, so I replied that my dog was 35 lbs, which is under their 40 lb limit for boarding. I also called twice before making the 30-min drive to their location. They didn't ask me for my dogs' weights. I didn't think to volunteer the information, since their website says that 40lbs and under is okay (and they have photos of medium-sized dogs). I told them that one of my dogs was a Whippet mix, so they could have guessed her weight. I was then told in English that they only accept dogs 30 lbs and under. This was news to me. They could have updated their website to reflect that or told me over the phone during one of the two times I called. I suppose I had overly high hopes for this place, because it's Japanese run and operated and received really good reviews on Yelp. However, customer service is not their specialty, which is ironic since it's the cornerstone of the Japanese business model. I would have contemplated boarding my 10 lb dog here if it wasn't for one of their rude employees. I consider my dogs my babies and need to feel that I can trust the establishment to be caring, understanding, honest, and ethical. Perhaps others will have a better experience, but be forewarned about the dog sizes they are willing to accept for boarding. read more

Overall, the Aloha Dog is pretty good. The staff is really nice, but I think there was a language barrier perhaps. I explained that I just wanted my little Yorkie trimmed. The groomer asked about my dog's belly (well she lifted my dog up and pointed, so I said yes I wanted it shaved). The haircut was cute and my dogs belly was partially shaved. For whatever reason, the lower belly wasn't shaved and the hair underneath my dog's tail wasn't shaved or trimmed at all. I've taken my dog to the other groomers and that area was always shaved. Perhaps, it's my bad and I should've specified but I thought it was obvious. Poop tends to get stuck in her hair in that area and with her little tail, I always have to check if there's poop smuggled under that tail. Overall, where her hair was actually cut, it looked good, but I'm taking my little "smuggler" somewhere else. Also, the grooming area is not visible and while the ladies are really nice, I prefer grooming areas that are visible. read more

They day after my post the manager at Aloha Dog called in the morning to find out what happened. I brought my dog down that evening to see her and they could not have handled the situation better. They were thorough, offered a great solution to the issue and were overall caring and apologetic over the incident. So, I give them five stars for the way they handled this situation. I'm not sure if I will take him back yet because that's ultimately up to the dog. But, I feel much better and I can tell that my little boy does too. And I do believe that it was a genuine mistake. read more

I have a Chinese Crested Powder Puff. For years I wanted her shaved to look like a hairless and leave hair only on her head and little pom-poms on her paws & tail, plus cleanly shaved feet & face. I don't know what's so difficult about this cut that they always seemed to get it wrong, so I started doing her grooming myself. Plus a couple times I got her back I'd find she's been hurt because every time I pet her a certain way she'd yelps . But once in a while I just don't have the time or energy to deal with grooming her & would reluctantly take her in. Well lately I've been letting her hair grow out & she has sooo much fine hair, so if you don't brush it regularly it gets matted under her arms & behind her neck. I left town for a month & left her with my BF & totally forgot to tell him to groom her every few days, so I came back to her having matts all over and had to take her to the groomer to get it taken care of. Since Aloha Dog is across the street from me, I went there. I have to say THESE GROOMERS ARE THE BEST I have ever come across. I asked them to even out her hair, cause it was just a big mess, on top of removing the matts and just let them have creative license on how to cut her hair. All I cared about was clean face and feet and removing the matted hair. And I just hoped & prayed she didn't come back looking all funky from chunks of hair needing to be cut off due to the matts. Well, when I got her back she was the most adorable fluff ball w/o any weird chunks of hair missing & her fur was so amazingly soft. But the best part, they did a really thorough job at trimming all the fur around her paws. I was able to paint her nails without getting the polish on her fur. I love this place! My dog hates any type of grooming and will do almost anything to get away from it! Mahalo Aloha Dog. Came home from work today and both Mocha and Koa were calm and welcoming when i came in the front door. As apricot and white poodles who had a shampoo today, i can only think that it was more like a Spa experience. Not only calm but clean also. Koa, the white poodle was a brilliant white. Mocha, the apricot, actually looked bigger. He was also smelling fresh with a hint of puppy. As both doggies wait for their daddy to come home, get a glass of wine and settle in to watch the local evening news, both then become the lap dogs they were meant to be and snuggle in and around Dad. Both being clean and fresh makes it an enjoyable experience for all. read more

I have never been in a cleaner or more professional dog groomer in 50 years. Aloha Dog is A+++++. I have been taking my Yorkie and Bichon there for over 2 years. No one has ever groomed them as well in complete grooming and I have my dogs done with scissor cuts. They are the best groomers in Honolulu or other cities I have lived in years ago. No one has ever groomed or cut them so well. My dogs could go in the show ring when they are finished. Yes, the owners are from Japan and some speak with an accent but their English is very good except for an older woman who rarely has contact with customers. The rest of staff is super friendly. They confirm appointments by email and send you a picture of the dog after the grooming. Clean, darling furniture for the dogs in doggie day care. These people own dogs, know and love dogs. I'm don't know if they do large dogs. I can't say enough about Aloha Dog. I tell every dog owner I know about them. A Bichon owner at the Hawaii Kai Dog Park referred me when they were new. I took my lhasa apso, Hoku, here for a full grooming and they did an excellent job! Her haircut was exactly what I asked for and the appointment was so quick... only 1-1/2 hours. The groomer we used to go to is good, but she takes 3 hours and is booked for several months out. Making this appointment was so quick and easy. The 20% discount for her first visit and the great reviews here led me to this place and I'm so glad we found this place. I've already made her next appointment to take advantage of the 10% discount. I believe they are dishonest. I've called to schedule appointments a few times now, and the person answering the phone says "yes", they have an opening. But then when I give them the dog's name to confirm, and they see that she's a Maltese, after a long delay on the phone, the owner gets on the phone and says sorry, we have "no openings", we are booked for at least a year. This has happened 3 times now in the last 6 months. Of course they have openings for grooming! That's their business. They are just not being honest and all i can guess is that they don't want to take Maltese breeds, because it takes more time. Something is not right because each time the first person says yes, they have an opening, but then when she looks up the dog's name, the owner gets on the phone and tells me there are no openings. I've tipped them $10 bucks each of the 2 times that they did a grooming in the past. And I thought we had a good relationship. But apparently, they do not want to groom our girl again, and insists on telling some other silly excuse. That's fine, if they don't want to groom her, but don't lie about it. Aloha Dog will be the best that you will find as loving, caring, and friendly staff to care for your dear pets. I can say that this place is by far the best that I have tried for my Maki, my Yorshire Terrier. The staff does the best for daycare services, grooming, and training. I will board Maki for one week and I feel very confident that the staff will provide her with the best of care!! Maki loves the daycare and Takeshi Hori and the rest of the staff are sooo caring to my Maki. They are always so accommodating and try to do everything to make Maki's visits with them so pleasant. When I pick her up, she is so happy! Her grooming was just absolutely perfect!! The best thing is that you can have grooming, daycare, boarding, and training all in one place!! I take him there for daycare on days when I am not able to make it home for lunch. My dog comes home happy and tired from playing. It does smell because the day care dogs go on potty pads inside because they don't have a yard (who does in Honolulu) but my dog loves it there!They also are the only people who have ever been able to cut his toe nails. I moved here from DC and had taken him to 3 places in DC and one place in southern Virginia with no success with nail cutting. I didn't even expect them to try but they called me when he was at daycare suggesting that I get a grooming to get his anal glands expressed. Imagine my surprise when I picked him up and he was groomed AND his nails had been cut. I looked at them with a shocked face and said "did you cut his nails?" and they said, "yes, he was a little difficult, but no problem". To top it off they surprised me a few days later by emailing me the cutest picture ever of him ever wearing a Hawaiian laie. read more
