Best poke I've ever had! The woman at the counter was so friendly. I added extra salmon - the fish was incredibly fresh. It's a small place, but the atmosphere is very warm and welcoming

Hubby Lunch from @Aloha Cones today. Looks like a Poke Bowl to me?? Heehee! He says that it tasted good too.

Aloha Ahiahi, from Hawai'i Nei :) \000/..... Yikes, it's sure been awhile since I've writen any Reviews here on Yelp?!?!?..... Welp, for this place @Aloha Cones, located right on *School St.*, which is very close to where we live & my Hubby is the one who will Usually head out on his days off & pick us up our Lunch Grindz!!! Mahalo Nui, always to my Husband David :) I know exactly where this Eatery is located & I've driven by here tons of times, I just never stopped on by, knowing that my Husband will drop on by here, especially he knows that I enjoy my *Shrimp Tempura*, etc. I don't, I repeat that I don't eat NO "Raw Fish!" @all, no "thank you", I've tried it before *Sashimi*, once before when my late Dad :(, insisted on me trying "Raw Fish", probably because my Dad was an avid Fisherman & he really wanted me to try his Fresh Sashimi, that he & his very good Male Friend & my Dad probably Caught & was excited, knowing that my Mom & my Sister Randi enjoys eating the Sashimi my Dad always would Cut the fresh fish for them @The (*Sumida Farm* = My late Dad :(, was a very Active member for the *The Aiea Boat Club*), So, I'm guessing my late Dad assumed that I would enjoy his *Sashimi* & A'ole, I hated it & spit it out (lol!) A long time ago!!, my one & only time I've tried any Sashimi in my life, yuck I say!!! Lol! It's just not for me, period!! I feel it's an acquired thing, & I just don't like it!! The reason while I'm mentioning about "Raw Fish" is because this place, @Aloha Cones does serve "Raw Fish", which my Husband will order a Bowl of it & then he'll always Order, my Favorite "Shrimp Tempura" bowl w/lots of rice (yikes!), & my nice bowl of "Shrimp Tempura" meal also comes w/Fresh Avocados, A Scoop of *Imitation Crab* = (I really enjoy this food Feature!!), Cucumbers, Sprouts, Lima Beans, etc & more fillers of Cruchy goodness, which I always enjoy every bite of my meal, all the many, many times when my Husband has picked up my "Tempura Bowl" meal of yumminess!! The price for my Ono "Tempura Bowl" is if I'm correct is, $15.00+ tax, etc. I always enjoy this treat & guess what, again, I haven't stepped foot in this place yet?? (lol!), but when I do put in my Order, the Sweet Nice Lady that Usually answers the phone, is always pleasant to talk too!! My Husband David mentioned to me that this Place @Aloha Cones may be a "Ohana" Business, not 100% sure, because I've never been here yet???? Lol! I'm sure I'll come & sit down one day here in the Future @Aloha Cones & take a few more photos for my pge here on Yelp!! A definitely 5***** place to eat at, I mean honestly, their *Shrimp Tempura* isn't the biggest "Shrimp Tempura" bowl meal, but I surely enjoy it, ooh yeah, they do put this nice *Sauce* on my Shrimp Tempura, I'm thinking it could maybe be, some Unagi Sauce, Maybe??, && I don't even eat Eel either?? Go figure!! Hahaha..... Lastly, I did try their *Karaage Chicken* a few times & I enjoyed it!! But, I mostly enjoy my "Shrimp Tempura" bowl meal, which always includes (2 pieces) of Shrimp Tempura, YUM!! Aloha, from Hawai'i Nei :) Cheers! P.S. - I forgot to also mention that this Eatery @Aloha Cones is located very near "Rainbow Drive In", which Rainbow Drive In is right around the Corner at the end of this Eatery on *School St.*.

Got a special off their instagram page for some delicious sashimi grade shoyu ahi and sesame ahi poke, and it really was delicious and fresh! I mostly ate it with white rice for a make my own poke bowl, but I also added a side of poke chips for $5 for some variety, and it was incredibly light and tasty. I can't wait to return!

College kid is arriving back home for Christmas and he begs me to have a poke bowl in the car as soon as I pick him up and he doesnt want supermarket stuff...Aloha Cones to the rescue they are open on Sunday till 4pm. The dragon bowl ($18.95) is delicious! Shrimp tempura, spicy ahi, sushi rice, unagi sauce, ocean salad, crab salad, cucumber. It's one of our favorite poke places. The price is a little steep but overall poke prices in hawaii have gone up. They have ample parking behind the shop. You can dine in on the counter or take out. Efficient friendly service and it's one of the few places that makes that delicious Sushi cake. I haven't gotten one yet but plan to for a special occasion. My kids gonna be a happy camper with this dragon bowl!

The food was delicious, the fish tasted fresh and I'll say the presentation is picture perfect. I guess the only downside was just the nature of everything being in a bowl because I couldn't get to the rice, I had to keep shifting all the fish, cucumber slices, and shredded daikon that sat on top around so I could get to the rice. My friend and I got there when it opened so needless to say we were served very quickly and there was lots of space for us to sit down. What was very nice is we didn't feel rushed to get out of the place after we finished eating as my friend and I were also catching up with each other while we ate. The eating area is pretty much just counter space, which was clean and there was a sufficient amount of space between each bar stool so if the place was completely full, I wouldn't have felt crowded in my seat. I guess it might be because my friend and I are both short, but I felt a little bit like a child as the bowl of food sat only a few inches below my chin because of how high the countertop was relative to the height of the bar stools.

If you're looking for the best Sushi bowl in the world you need to come here! They use fresh fish straight from the auction every day and they prepare their bowls very differently from other typical poke bowls. Their Sushi bowls are very fresh and cannot be compared to any other place to be quite honest. You ever go home after eating somewhere and then think about the place and crave it again ? Yeah that's this place! Just writing this review has me wanting to go back tomorrow! On special occasions to be different I do order their sushi cake which comes with the layers of spicy ahi and crab in the middle and then topped with their fresh sashimi selection of the day and topped with Ikura and edible flowers! This cake always impresses whatever party I am going to or any person that I'm gifting it to! They do not disappoint!

What a fantastic Mother's Day gift! My Son and Daughter-in-law are always coming up with great gifts to bestow on me for birthdays, Christmas and Mother's Day. This particular surprise was dropped off on Saturday and was absolutely gorgeous to look at. It's hard to tell how much that delightful sushi-cake weighed but it was heavy. I wish I had taken more pictures but once we started cutting into it I was just wanting to savor every bite. The roses on top were Ahi, Salmon and Hamachi with Ikura and small slices of sashimi in between and edible flowers to brighten it up. The inside was layered with crab salad, avocado thinly sliced cucumber tasting like a California roll and spicy tuna underneath that. The sides were sprinkled with toasted sesame seeds. Actually loved the rice as it wasn't sweet and perfectly soft. A perfect gift idea or a shared pot luck or just served with sake for a friends evening. It's a winner! Business is located on School Street where the old Kam Bakery used to be. Shared parking lot and the owner is very helpful. It came with containers of wasabi, sliced ginger and ponzu sauce. Shoyu was offered but we have plenty at honey.

Today I got to taste the Spicy Tuna Poke for $17.75 and they gave a very large portion and it was fresh and good taste to the last bite. Also, the cook/server was very helpful and friendly.

Delicious fresh Poke!!!! Our family stopped by here on our way from the airport to our hotel and it was delicious!!!! The staff is very friendly. The location is small, and they don't have tables but a counter with stools. I was traveling with my family (a group of 7), and no one was inside, so we were able to sit and eat there. Yelp reports this business is close on Sundays but they are open on Sundays now. Now let me tell you about the Poke. This is probably one of the best pokes I've ever had! It is fresh, and the flavor is perfect in every bite. The rice is also perfect which makes the bowls even better. I had the Dragon Bowl 5/5, which comes with shrimp tempura, spicy tuna, cucumbers, crab meat, and some other items, and it was exactly what I was hoping for! Several of us had that bowl, and we all agreed it was the best! We also tried the Poke Nachos 5/5, and they were also really good! Everything is prepped fresh when you get there, so the chips for the nachos were fried after we ordered. This is a must try location in Hawaii!

I got the shoyu ahi poke while my bf got the dynamite bowl. This has to be the best poke bowl I ever had- the fish was so fresh and the side crab salad was so tasty. They also put some cucumbers, cabbage salad, and seaweed and it was all so good. I think this experience really stood out to me because we spoke to the owner and the other worker there who were very friendly and nice. Would love to return to try another poke bowl whenever we go back to Oahu!

I love poke nachos but I have yet to find a place in east Honolulu that makes them, so I did a quick search on my handy dandy Yelp app and Aloha Cones popped up! Although they are about 25 min away, the photos of their poke nachos looked yummy enough to give it a try. I called my order in and by the time I got there, it was ready. The lady at the counter was very friendly and I assumed she was the owner. There was only one other person there - the cook. This is a hole-in-the-wall in Kalihi, with a few parking spots in the back of their eatery. For landmark purposes, they're right next to Rainbow Drive Inn. The poke nachos are usually spicy but I asked for a non-spicy version with shoyu ahi, which they gladly created for me. I got the nachos to go and by the time I got home and popped the lid, I was surprised how much they could fit in that box! The poke was very fresh and sliced appropriately. It came with seasoned poke over chips, drizzled with unagi and aioli sauce, topped with tomatoes, white and green onions. They also had a scoop of crab on top. The reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the wonton chips. I prefer mine on the super crispy side and these were not. They were good, but I've had better. The price was $17.95 + tax which is very reasonable given the amount that they serve. I could make two meals out of it. It's definitely worth checking out and supporting this small business!

I went here yesterday for spicy ahi poke nachos and wow probably best I've ever had! They have seaweed salad and imitation crab salad along with their home made won ton chips! Their won ton chips remain crunchy too! Portion size is good too!

Aloha Cones Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Aloha Cones

Do they do sushi cakes still?

Yaassss!! I'd make the order at least a week in advance. Customer service was very responsive and nice!!

    Do they have seating?

No, they have a narrow counter that lines the walls but you have to stand and eat in a narrow space. Best to do takeout and eat somewhere more scenic, like a nearby park.

Are they still open for business?

They are still on business. I went there twice recently. Both tasty. Their phone did not work both time for different reason.

I decided to finally go out of my usual choices and try Ginza out. Ginza is located in the main ward building (the one with the theater), on the side, between Men's Warehouse and L&L. We got seated fairly quickly and was given water. Upon ordering we were also given edamame to nom on while we waited. We also decided to order two rolls, an AAB combo set to try a variety of things and fried calamari for food measure. We got: * Jen's Paradise: 9.7/10, heavily recommend. I was really craving sear salmon and it definitely helped to satisfy that craving. I didn't realize that the roll part itself ONLY has shrimp tempura within the nori (no crab salad, avo, etc). * Bomb: 8/10, clearly I lacked my reading comprehension skills this day because I didn't realize that this was baked... so when it came out and the entire roll was fully cooked I was heart broken. It tasted good, just not what I particular want at a sushi restaurant. * Chicken Karaage: 5/10. I do NOT recommend this. They remined me of mochiko chicken, but these were not very meaty or flavorful. * Fried Calamari: 10/10, fried to perfectly in my opinion, each piece was plump and delicious. * Miso Butterfish: 8.9/10, it was good, flaky and flavorful. Just not something I would order again, but it was good to try esp it is something they're supposedly known for. * Mixed Tempura: 10/10, yum I love mixed tempura, no notes, it was hot and crunchy. I would like to mention that our wait was quite long. I don't know why because they weren't like SUPER busy. It took 10-15 for us to get the miso soup and salad for the combo. +5 for the calamari, +5 for the first roll then a few minutes after for the rest. I feel like 15-20 minutes for our first actual item (calamari) to come is kind of crazy, it kept being brought to the wrong table (2-3 times). Our server apologized so its not a huge deal. Otherwise, I still enjoyed our experience. I would definitely come back again to try the rolls I would enjoy more (utilizing my reading skills a bit better LOL).

From the outside, it is a hole-in-the-wall, but don't let that fool you. This is by far the best sushi spot on Oʻahu. It is on the pricier side, but the quality and freshness make it well worth it. Everything we ordered was authentic, flavorful, and incredibly fresh. My favorite was the toro nigiri, rich and buttery, and it melts in your mouth. The service was great and I am already looking forward to my next visit!

There is something deeply confusing about Mitch's Fish Market & Sushi Bar…read more Not bad confusing.Worse. Identity-crisis confusing. Because the fish?Excellent. Cold, clean, glistening with that dangerous little shimmer that tells you somebody in the supply chain actually cared. You can taste the quality immediately. The kind of quality that silences a table for half a second. And credit where it is due: almost everything I tried ranged from very good to genuinely great. But then the room begins speaking. And suddenly the spell breaks. The atmosphere feels like someone took a serious sushi counter, stripped away all sensuality, all elegance, all ritual, then dropped it inside a fluorescent island diner where exhausted civilians came to discuss parking validation and Costco receipts. It is the culinary equivalent of wearing a Rolex with orthopedic sneakers. The contradiction never stops humming beneath the experience. You sit there eating beautiful fish while surrounded by an energy that feels strangely... transactional. Heavy. Casual in the least flattering way. A room with no mystery. No seduction. No gravity. Like Zippy's accidentally wandered into the tuna trade and struck gold. And on an island like Oahu, where atmosphere matters almost as much as the fish itself that becomes a real problem. Because sushi is not merely consumption. It is theater.Restraint.Texture.Whispered precision. The best sushi spots on Oahu understand this instinctively. They understand that exceptional fish alone is not enough. You are paying for transportive experience. For mood. For elegance. For the feeling that the evening exists slightly outside ordinary life. At Mitch's, the fish reaches for Tokyo while the room drags you back toward a tired strip mall off the freeway. And then there's the crowd. Not evil people. Not rude people. Just an oddly low-rent energy orbiting genuinely premium seafood. The kind of room where one table is eating remarkable otoro while another feels one argument away from discussing used-car financing over soy sauce packets. It creates dissonance. Especially considering the prices. Because at those prices, you begin comparing the full experience not merely the fish quality and that is where Mitch's stumbles hard. There are multiple sushi spots across Oahu that equal or surpass the seafood while also delivering beauty, atmosphere, intimacy, and actual emotional texture. So what remains is this strange contradiction: Mitch's serves fish far above the dignity of its own ambience Which almost makes it fascinating. Would I be back - no . You can get same and better quality fish, much better vine, better part of town for the same Price.

Spicy dynamite cake was not too spicy, but had layers of rice, avocado, and spicy Ahi with sauce, and Nori wrappers on the side. Chicken skewers you can order them individually, in a set of three or five and we opted for three. Service was very friendly and attentive. We finished everything. The three items we ordered the cost was $60, adding tip and tax was around $75. The restaurant is very small. Seating only at the bar hence in the restaurant name. Definitely would like to come back and try some of the other options.

The Friday we went was the day of the heavy thunderstorm so a coworker had to bow out leaving just two of us. The storm must've made others skip going out also because there were only two other people dining. Everything we ordered was fresh with my favorites being the Pork cheek Cher siu nigiri and the Uni handroll. The Unagi handroll and Maguro w/creamy avocado handroll were both good as well. Joe really liked the Blue crab w/truffke kanimiso handroll as well. Other things we got were: Nigiri flight (5 piece sampler of there premium nigiri,) various nigiri...Aji, Kampachi, Tai, and Hamachi. The sampler was a good starting point while the others were ok. Service was attentive and friendly, waters refilled often. I'm kinda on the fence about the QR code ordering system, it was convenient to be able to order when you wanted and not having to wait for a server to come by but I did miss the interaction with the servers when ordering. It was a good experience, I'm always open to trying sushi places I haven't been to and some if the take out roll sets looked interesting, something I'd be back to try.

There were standouts and overall we loved the meal. A local id gets the 10% service fee removed which was nice. I would recommend the $150 lunch omakase - I don't think the $50 abalone dish was worth the upgrade.

Every piece of sushi was beautifully presented not overwhelming. You can really tell the chefs put a lot of thought into the balance of flavors and textures. One of my favorite bites was a sashimi piece topped with something that looked like finely grated cheese (not sure what it actually was), but it melted perfectly with the fish and added a really unique savory flavor. The chefs and staff also had a good sense of humor. At one point they served kinki fish and jokingly explained that the English translation sometimes gets called "idiot fish," which got everyone laughing at the counter. The omakase is definitely on the pricier side, but the quality, presentation, and overall experience made it very satisfying. If you're looking for a refined sushi experience with great service and beautifully crafted bites, this place is worth the splurge.
