Aloha BBQ is OK for a Hawaiian BBQ spot. Their food is less salty than the other Hawaiian BBQ spot down the block and more expensive with smaller portions. The restaurant is clean and my food was ready in 7 minutes. The Atkins BBQ Plate $17.25 was mostly BBQ chicken, one piece of beef and one piece of short rib with two eggs. This tasted OK. My other order was fried fish $15.25, regular. It contained three pieces of thin fish. The batter was OK and felt small. The other place down the block will give you two more pieces for two dollars less. I used the rice in this dish to soak up the BBQ juices from the Atkins plate. Service was fine for a take-out restaurant. read more

I've been coming here for a few years and I still enjoy the spot, when im craving a spam masubi and don't feel like heading too far, I stop by here. The place is pretty spacious but normally empty as I see people pick up to go which makes sense (but also could be because I come in late evening). The service is usually super fast, I place an order and it's ready in about 10-15 minutes so I bike on over. Food is good, and It's just a great local place in the Excelsior for Hawaiian BBQ. read more

The chicken katsu here is absolutely on point. Perfectly crispy on the outside, juicy and tender on the inside, and sliced generously so every bite is satisfying. The breading has great flavor without being greasy, which really lets the chicken shine. The macaroni salad is a great complement--creamy, slightly sweet, and classic in the best way. It balances out the crunch of the katsu nicely and feels homemade rather than an afterthought. Portion size is very generous and easily filling. Overall, this is comforting, well-executed food that hits the spot. I'd definitely come back read more

Aloha BBQ is a convenient spot for a quick meal. I was in the area for Safeway and decided to check it out, especially to see if the loco moco was any good. It was your typical takeout-style version that gets the job done. The gravy was very salty and watery, so I was glad it came on the side and not on top. The eggs were cooked to my preference and the patties tasted like standard frozen beef. They give a generous portion of rice, though the macaroni salad was a bit too mushy for me. The food came out fast and the staff were efficient, which made the visit smooth. There was plenty of seating inside and everything looked clean and well kept. Parking is mostly on the street but there is a Safeway lot right across if needed. If you are in the area and want something filling without much of a wait, this place is a solid option. read more

Food is pretty good, portions not bad either. Service pretty quick, nice staff. My low stars is because I ordered there twice now and asked for tossed green salad instead of mac salad, and each time..no dressing for the salad?? They literally gave me shredded lettuce with 2 cucumber slices, both times. How is that a "tossed green salad" if no dressing included (not even on the side)? It's odd to have to ask for dressing for a salad..like hello! Why not just offer a side of lettuce then.. read more

I been ordering takeout from them about once every few months and I really can say I love this place. Garlic shrimp plate or BBQ mixed plate or even chicken Katsu they are all yummy! Aloha BBQ - Pork Katsu. - Hawaiian Near Me - San Francisco, California

Got some food here before my haircut. It's a pretty straightforward setup, walk up, order, then wait for your food to come out. It was pretty sparse inside because most people do takeout or do DoorDash from here. Oh, they also take credit cards so that's a plus! The food itself is pretty good. I got the Atkins mini and my friend got the Hawaiian bbq chicken. Chicken was tender, flavorful, and juicy! It's the standard rice and the Macaroni salad was the generic stuff that other Hawaiian places serve. Overall it's a pretty good place and I hope to be here more often! read more

Aloha BBQ - Chicken Katsu Mini - Hawaiian Near Me - San Francisco, California

3.5 STARS We wanted Hawaiian food. Decided to try Aloha BBQ since we found it on DoorDash. We place our lunch delivery order on Sunday, June 21st 2:08pm. It arrived at 2:57pm. We live in Outer Richmond. *BBQ Mix Plate: Barbecue beef, short ribs, and chicken, Macaroni Salad ($14.75) *Loco Moco: Hamburger patties over rice covered with brown gravy and topped with eggs, Regular, Macaroni Salad, White Rice, Medium ($12.95) *Kalua Pork: Regular, Macaroni Salad, White Rice ($12.95) *Grilled Spam Musubi: Trio ($7.80) *Cheeseburger: Single, Medium ($5.85) *Macaroni Salad ($3.55) I always end up ordering a mix plate since I love both beef and chicken. This one was pretty good. A nice smokiness to the meats. Also, portion wise, a good amount of rice and chicken. I was also craving a loco moco, so decided to try it here. The burger patty was really dry and chewy. And the gravy didn't have much flavor. It was disappointing. But I did enjoy the spam musubi. Just squeeze some sriracha on it and I'm set! Good for their bbq plates and musubi, but I'd stay away from the loco moco. Not enough flavor and the meat was tough! read more

I found a black dot on my Katsu. I thought it was a burnt piece of meat, good thing I checked it was a fly.. I ordered 4 things through Uber Eat. I am throwing everything away. Good thing I didn't feed my son. The other person found a screw in his food. This is such a careless mistake. It's not even a tiny fruit fly, sometimes they can jump into a cook food however this one is battered with Katsu together. They must don't cover the batter mix. read more

Great Hawaii plates. Excellent macaroni salad! Generous portions and their various sauces are all very tasty.

The short ribs are smaller and more chewy with more fat and stringy parts and only a little bit of meat comparing to Hawaiian Drive Inn. Indicating the quality. Also I asked for veggies instead of all the sides in my combo and they literally just gave me more of the free lettuce base that comes with anything. So disappointed. It's literally no sides then why am I paying for the sides? The other places when I asked they always give me broccoli. The chicken is ok, standard level. Would choose another place next time, not really worth the money. read more

Does not look like much driving by but we were craving Hawaiian bbq after our long day out. Reviews caught our attention and we decided to give it a try. The menu has a wide variety of options. I'm not a big fan of huge menus as it usually means that some of the dishes are sure to be questionable. My suspicions were correct with the shrimp simirin, it was basically instant noodles with 4 small shrimps which was quite disappointing. The spam misubi combo redeemed the meal. I'm probably unlikely to revisit. read more

I walked past this place recently because of the negative reviews here, but then I got tempted by delivery and I gotta say, Ya'll are ALL WRONG. This place is deeelicious. For starters, this place has some of the best Kalua Pork you'll find outside of the islands. I've been trying to cut back on rice and I seriously couldn't help myself from devouring it just because of all the tasty sauces that got on it. The Mac salad is the bomb. The serving is very generous but you won't want to stop eating. They also have an Atkins combo. Yes, it's outdated... we call it Keto now and do you know how hard it is to find keto-specific stuff? Instead you always gotta modify your burger to a lettuce wrap and hold the sauce and...ugh it's a mess. Anyway like I was saying, this Atkins combo is a sweet deal. Tons of meat; it seriously was like 3 meals for me. It's not cheap but it sure ain't pricey, either. I'd happily order from this place again. read more

I ordered the spam fried rice, and my family had the loco moco as well as the Hawaiian bbq. While we were waiting the reviews were scaring me but they were from years ago. What they're doing now I'm sure these guys will satisfy you. The food was good, friendly staff, and one of the workers gave my niece a free popsicle. Aloha BBQ- Mission Street in San Francisco Restaurant is on super pedestrian heavy Mission Street in San Francisco. It is basically one of the many forms of "Hawaiian BBQ plate lunch" places that can be found all over the city. Inside is very much like mom and pop plate lunch joints- not a bad thing...but too bad the food didn't deliver. When we went, the restaurant was packed with the after school crowd. The employees were either intimidated or didn't care that the teens were running amok inside the restaurant, banging yelling and swearing up a storm. We ordered beef and lamb skewers with broccoli and a salad. Both beef and lamb were under seasoned and over cooked. The broccoli was cooked to the point of being limp. I suspect it was microwaved because the texture was uneven. Portion size was super small for the price. The skewers came with a soy dipping sauce that was watery. Not a great dining experience at Aloha BBQ. Rather ironic, because this area of Mission is loaded with a variety of wonderful restaurants, with an emphasis on Chinese food. I would probably check out one of the neighborhood options rather than return to Aloha BBQ again. read more

Everyone has cravings, even my wallet. Yes, my wallet. Sometimes it craves a cheap and filling meal with leftovers (gotta stretch that dollah), and that sometimes came last week. Previously Lin's Café (Chinese BBQ Deli & Restaurant), Aloha BBQ opened about 2 weeks ago, and thanks to Wilhelm Y.'s FTR for putting it on my radar. The menu offers standard Hawaiian fast food fare of bbq, rice plates, musubi, burgers, saimin, and etc, however, they also have some Chinese dishes: egg rolls, potstickers, fried rice, etc. They also offer party trays. Prices are about $.50 - $2 more than longtime neighborhood favorite, Hawaiian Drive Inn which is just down the block. I don't mind paying slightly higher prices but if you're going to charge more than your competitor, you better one up them. The food is comparable (decent to fill your stomach but not something I crave) but the wait is twice as long. We ordered pick-up via the yelp app and it took 20 minutes in an empty restaurant (found parking in front). Hawaiian Drive Inn can churn out orders in less than 10 minutes with a line out the door. However, Aloha BBQ accepts credit cards AND they deliver. We ordered the A1: Seafood Combo w/ Basa fish, fried shrimp & BBQ short ribs ($8.75): http://bit.ly/1dPQwCI and A4: Half & Half w/ chicken katsu & BBQ short ribs ($8.75): http://bit.ly/1zOu475. It's hard to phuck up fried foods so the chicken katsu was predictably decent albeit a tad dry. The accompanying sweet & sour gravy did help to provide some moisture so that was fine. The rice and mac is better than Hawaiian Drive Inn (not mushy). Avoid the short ribs which were insanely salty and laced with msg. I didn't try any of the seafood so I can't vouch for that. Portions were massive so we had plenty of leftovers for another meal but I also had to order some musubis as they're my benchmark for testing any good Hawaiian restaurant. One word: pathetic: http://bit.ly/1IRSnmb. They spam was pathetically thin compared to how much rice they pack in. I love rice and so do my thunder thighs but my goodness, please use less rice or use thicker cuts of spam. Not sure why there was only sauce on one musubi and not the others. Anyhow, we just ate the spam and tossed the rice. If you're not picky, and looking for a cheap AzN restaurant that provides a filling meal with leftovers and accepts credit cards then Aloha BBQ may be for you. As far as one upping their competitor, it's clean so you won't leave with your face looking like Kim K's greasy ( I ) on Paper mag (not hating, she has a nice bootylicious ass). read more

Hey brudda, it ain't no joy ride to get here. Man, I'd climb a volcano for cheap Hawaiian eats, but we're really talking about the Outer Mission. That's one long ride on the increasingly aromatic MUNI 14 line or a long march from the Balboa Park BART station. Or you could drive but what's the fun in that? You can recognize the place from the bright orange awning. Aloha, brudda. Enter and there's no doubt you're in a fast food joint, and it takes a while to absorb the highly detailed menu on the wall. I saw the usual suspects like kahlua pork, spam musubi and loco moco but also a section of "healthier" plates and even Aloha Atkins BBQ plates for those eating low carb. That would not be me on that particular evening. Given all the choices, I went with the most predictable one for someone who hasn't had authentic Hawaiian food in a while, the $8.75 "BBQ Mix Plate Plate" (their verbiage). For that bargain price, it was a hefty amount of food they put into my takeout carton, slabs of marinated barbecue beef, short ribs and chicken with two scoops of rice and one scoop of macaroni salad (photo: http://bit.ly/1fFXwCM). I'm not sure why they put it in a takeout carton since I told them I was eating there, or maybe they were cutting the middleman since they resumed I couldn't finish it in one sitting. Think again, brudda. As I was gnawing on the surprisingly tender meat, I noticed they make saimin here. Saimin? Damn, I love saimin. Even I have my limits, sorta, but I can't pass up saimin, can I? So once i was done with my BBQ plate, I ordered the $5.15 Aloha Saimin to go, another bargain and even the Spam Saimin was only $3.99. I took it home and ate it the following day reheated at work. It turned out the Aloha version contained pieces of barbecue beef and chicken atop soft wheat egg noodles swimming in a salty dashi broth (photo: http://bit.ly/1ez9QE1). Even reheated, it was pretty delicious. Just so you know, I would kick the best ramen out of bed for a bowl of saimin. That's how much I like saimin. Anyway, the owners don't look like Hawaiians, just a pleasant Asian family who didn't speak much English. I'm sure I'll take that bus ride again just for the saimin. FOOD - 3 stars...barbecue plate was middling even if the excess amount was impressive, the saimin was better but that may just be me AMBIANCE - 2.5 stars...fast food central, baby SERVICE - 3 stars...very nice and very quiet TOTAL - 3 stars...is a trek to the Outer Mission worth it for some cheap Hawaiian food?...let me try that saimin again read more

Nope. Dry, flavorless rice, dry grilled beef, w no taste, thin , small piece of breaded fish, that was usable as a coaster. 3 dry frozen shrimp with zero taste. All this was laid over shredded, RAW cabbage( it should be grilled or steamed. ) No sauce, no flavor, no appeal, and over priced. I was craving a Loco Moco and found this place on a google search. Really nice folks but the Loco Moco did not impress. The hamburger patty was not fresh hamburger. Definaltely previously frozen and tasted like a snak shack burger. Also needed more salt. That was short lived! After eating here a second time I'm dropping my rating to a 3. This is a new Hawaiian BBQ restaurant located directly across the street from the Safeway supermarket near Geneva and Mission Streets. I was just walking by on my way to run some errands and was actually thinking about Hawaiian plate lunch but at another establishment further down the street. The menu here is much larger than my intended lunch spot with a wide assortment of Hawaiian BBQ lunch plates, Chinese and Hawaiian appetizers, musubi, barbecue bowls, burgers, saimin noodles or chow mein and more. In fact, it took me awhile to read through the menu and decide what I wanted to try. For my first order here I had the Hawaiian BBQ Beef (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/aloha-bbq-san-francisco-2?select=Opv9Llb5YwassYMNQo6Pdw#o-UR9pT5o5E_9tsaeA2VsA) plate. It is the standard combination of sweet marinated beef on top of a pile of shredded cabbage with two scoops of steamed white rice and a scoop of macaroni salad. It was quite good and very filling with the beef being leaner than most that I have had at other Hawaiian BBQ restaurants. My second visit began very annoyingly as the cash register attendant obviously did not understand his job very well. He did not know what was on the menu and how to input the items into the cash register repeatedly having to run to the back of the restaurant for assistance. I ordered 2 items and a soda and it took almost 10 minutes. The food delivery remained very fast however. Their Chef's Curry Chicken Wings (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/aloha-bbq-san-francisco-2?select=Opv9Llb5YwassYMNQo6Pdw#qjvopSQ3SXhYTPsXZlqAFg) had a faint scent of curry and absolutely zero curry flavor. The wings were not plucked clean and chicken hairs were highly visible on several of the wings. The exterior was hot and crispy but the wing had very little flavor. I also ordered the Loco Moco (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/aloha-bbq-san-francisco-2?select=Opv9Llb5YwassYMNQo6Pdw#Opv9Llb5YwassYMNQo6Pdw). Here they ask you how you'd like your eggs prepared, but since the worker couldn't figure out the cash register system I ended up ordering my eggs over medium. The burgers are not hand formed like my usual Hawaiian place but more like the frozen beef patties you'd find in a supermarket freezer. The gravy was very salty. They have a big refrigerator full of sodas, water or juice. You order at the counter and your meal is ready in less than 10 minutes. Everything is served in compostable take-out containers with non compostable forks and knives. There is plenty of seating for up to 49 persons. There is currently one TV with a mounting rack next to it that I'm assuming will have another TV attached to it soon. Open daily 9:30 AM to 10:00 PM. Credit cards are accepted, but there is a $3 minimum. They do catering and they have delivery with a $20 minimum. read more
