I can't but give this, the original Almost Famous anything less than 5 stars,it deserves them for opening back here alone, although it is very handy when handing out 5 stars that the food/booze and general vibe is as good as it was before the fire... We went at about 5ish on Saturday evening before a night of debauchery in The Star and Garter, and we were sat down at a table straight away, and whilst Mrs Z went to the bar to order (Getting my priorities in order there!) I gave the place the once over. I really missed this place!! Don't get me wrong,I love the new place too,but this one is in the NQ,and that means it just edges it,even if the menu is a little bit smaller (They have the Smokey and the Bandit burger,so it's all good!).. My word I've missed this place!!!

Amazing place, great environment. Hipster. Cool, fab. I just love this place. I was introduced to almost famous not long after it opened and ever since ive been introducing it to many others. I usually order a river phenix burger with winning fried. Ive also tried all the other fries to. Depends who im with depends what type i order. The portions are big so to much for one person so better to share. There cocktail are tasty to.

After a month of traveling and eating solely eastern cuisine, it was time to re-westernize myself. I went straight to Northern Quarter, up the covert staircase of Almost Famous, and boy am I glad I did. Holy. crap. These burgers are pretty spectacular in their own right. Even if you go for the most simple option (as I did - The Famous burger), I was still greeted by a heaping double portion of meat, a monstrosity of cheese (happy days) and some crack-like "famous" sauce all tucked in a delicious brioche bun with tomato, lettuce, onion and pickles. Bravo, Almost Famous, bravo. As I treaded the waters carefully, you can get quite an insane concoction here. The list of ingredients for other burgers go on and on. They've changed their menu recently though, so beware that old favourites may no longer be available. I brought my vegetarian friend here (hehe) and she actually got a delicious veggie burger as well! Both veggie burgers named after late American icons (the Brittany Murphy and the Anna Nicole), my friend got the Brittany Murphy expecting a sort of bean burger. However, she was served two fried patties of potato, cheese, and spices. Even as a full-on carnivore, I have to say it was extremely tasty! It's a bumpin little spot, with some great jams playing and a fairly proportioned set-up of tables between two rooms. Servers were friendly and prompt! Definitely a great spot to grub out with friends. I will absolutely be back.

Still the big daddy when it comes to Manchester burger, a revisit to Almost Famous NQ has been on the cards for a while. Fully aware that we'd be putting our names on a list, we headed upstairs earlier than we wanted to eat and agreed to a two hour wait time. The perfect amount to head to The Smithfield for a few drinks. An hour later, we got that all important text and headed back - and it wasn't that busy. The two hour wait time was potentially just a sensible guess to manage our expectations, but the pessimist voice inside asks whether they only hand out these waiting times as force of habit; if there are tables available (at least 3 were empty throughout our meal), why can't we book in? A re-branded menu means new options and more variety in their non-burgers, including pretzel buns and on menu vegetarian meals. Although I like this more grown up, less 'hush hush', style Almost Famous, it seems to have resulted in no specials unless there's an occasion or event taking place; a bit of a shame. Having planned this visit, we'd each already had a look at the menu so we were quick off the bat to order. Overall we had - I'm Crack-ed Baby, Johnny Mac, Buffalo Beach Club, suicide wings, redneck wings, pig & waffle fries, and phoenix fries. Phew. The Jonny Mac was excellent, with plenty of cheese, and I'm a massive fan of adding crisps into basically any form of sandwich. The mac & cheese ball was simply the 'icing on the cake', so to speak. The pig & waffle fries were the right balance of meat and sauce for me (previous experiences have been far too heavy on the blue cheese) and we were pleased to see these transferred from the Great Northern menu. The only disappointment were the suicide wings. They were much smaller than memory serves and, although hot, had more of a buffalo heat than the overpowering spice I've had in the past. For £5 it's not a bit hit on the final receipt but elsewhere in Manchester would easily win the battle of the wings for me. It was a fun Saturday night experience and I always feel childlike excitement at the different potential combinations of meals here. The brand is sure to keep changing and, really, we can't hold on to those early days of secret suppers and unique special combinations; they're growing up and so is the brand. I'm looking forward to seeing where this takes them.

Last minute plans on a Friday night led us to wandering around the NQ looking for somewhere good for eats. Luckily, Almost Famous managed to squeeze us in..! Hurrah. This was my first visit back to the NQ site since the fire and they have done a great job with the refurbishment. The restaurant is small, cosy but still has that 'cool' element to it just like their GN Warehouse place. Our food took a while to arrive, which led to 2 rounds of drinks and a few shots on an empty stomach - but I'm not complaining, it was Friday. I went for the cherry bomb (pictured, with a sparkler! Oooh) one of my favourite drinks in here. Almost opted for a boozy milkshake but next time! I ordered the Smoky & The Bandit burger - with cheese, JD candied bacon, bbq fried onions, chillies, chipotle and baconnaise. It was amazing as always. I washed it down with a portion of bacon bacon fries too - although I will admit I had to give up on these towards the end, eyes bigger than belly it seems. I'm a fan of AF and always will be.

Wednesday evening, wet windy and cold, cant be bothered to cook so ended up in AF norther quarter. I've been here a couple of times now since the reopening and although it has lost some of its original charm, it's still one of my favourite places to eat in Manchester. Hands down this place makes the best burgers in town ! Didn't have to queue to get in this eve which was a bonus, the one at great Northern just seems to be CRAZY busy all the time ! Opted for a Hong Kong Philly this eve whilst my friend had a California screaming. Both burgers were perfect as ever. Gorgeous chuck patty and a fair Amount of thought must have gone into the perfect taste combinations. I really enjoyed the HKP as it had a really spicy kick to it Which always wins points with me. Unfortunately the river Phoenix wasn't on the menu which meant AF only gets 4 stars this time ..

They're back! They closed after a fire nearly a year later. They re-opened recently. Great burgers again, they've now got beers on draft. Great art work, friendly staff, good buzz. Only flaws, music too loud for a sit down eating place, acoustics hard for a conversation, table/chair layout quite cluttered, cos we were five people, we are on a table to seat ten (four person table wouldn't accommodate/adapt) and couldn't converse. Way too much mustard on the chips, they were swimming.

I somehow never got round to going to Almost famous during the period of hype. I think the 'no photos' and queuing to get in for the sake of it put me off. But a good couple of years later when i fancied a burger and one of my favourite joints was full we nipped round the corner to give it a try. My first impression wasn't great, as the atmosphere was dead and although the waiting staff are friendly enough on the surface you cant help but feel like you're being judged....too old, or not hipster enough for them to bother with. I tried to have a chat with the girl behind the bar whilst ordering to just receive flat, one word responses and a look of horror that i might want to order cider. The burger itself was ok. Really quite nice in fact, but i wont be going back in a hurry

The "I'm Crack-ed, Baby": chorizo, garlic salt shoestring fries, jalapeño mustard, salt and vinegar crisps, etc.

Reviewing Almost Famous seems almost too trite for a Mancunian. You've been there, right? You must've been. Come on now. There's absolutely no excuse for not going. (Unless you're a vegetarian. But then you've other questions to answer.)* The Northern Quarter outlet is up a couple of steep flights of stairs off the High Street, opposite the old Fish Market. While the menu has subtle differences (the only subtle thing about the place) with the newer Great Northern restaurant, the two are much of a muchness. While carefully disheveled, the place is looking rather smart and clean since its recent renovation. But what you really want to read about are the burgers. They're the bee's knees. They're towering behemoths of beef, each with two meaty patties and a pile of other delicious nonsense squished into a brioche bun. The menu rotates, but the gluttonous adornments are strongly flavoured, and frequently surprising. Contrasting textures add to the fun: my most recent burger included garlicky shoestring fries, jalapeño mustard and salt and vinegar crisps; others include fried chicken and 'suicide sauce'; even Cheerios, a poached egg and a Pop Tart (yes, in one burger). Alright, it's all a little bit silly. It's very messy, too. Don't try to avoid that: just make ample use of the kitchen roll on each table. It's great, though. Fun, big flavours, without being stodgy or homogeneous. The various combinations of fries on the side are worth your attention. I've yet to find any loaded fries in the city that beat the Pig & Waffle fries, which combine waffle fries, pulled pork, BBQ sauce, blue cheese and jalapeño relish. I've not delved deeply into the drinks menu, though the selection seems decent. The shots, such as the Eagles Beak (Jack Daniels, maraschino, mint, plum bitters) are fun, zingy, and usefully small. I've never got as far as the desserts, which look as ambitious as the burgers. It's deliberately crude and over-the-top, but sometimes that's just what you're after. Judged for what it wants to be, Almost Famous is a near-compulsory stop on the Mancunian culinary circuit. * Vegetarian options are available. But you know as well as I do that's not what it's all about.

I loved this place before the fire and I'm so happy about it reopening. There is something naughty about this place. I love it. It takes eating burgers and make it in experience, its proper misbehaving. The burgers are very good and drinks are great to. The staff are friendly and smiling, I guess it must be a fun place to work. I like to get on the cocktails and go to this burger den for a late night burger fix.

So what is the best burger place in Manchester? Well that really is a matter of opinion because in Manchester we are a little spoilt for choice but I have made it a bit of a personal quest of mine to seek out my favourite. Almost Famous has quite a reputation so it is fair to say that I came here with very high expectations and I really wasn't disappointed. The burgers here are great and there are some really interesting ones on the menu, but surprisingly for me it was the fries that stole the show. To be precise it was the Bacon Bacon Fries, if these were not as unhealthy as a suspect they are... then I think I could eat them every day. The restaurant itself is colourful, brightly decorated, with cartoons on the wall and has a lively atmosphere. At the moment they do not take bookings (although this may not be the case for large groups) and due to the popularity here you should expect to wait a little while for your table. The service was good, friendly staff and reasonably quick considering that it was quite busy. So is it my favourite burger place in Manchester? Not quite...not yet, but it certainly isn't far off. My favourite at the moment is So Lita but competition is a very good thing and I will return to Almost Famous in the near future.

The old railway building. Thanks yelp for making me aware. They have a lunch special with a selection of burgers and a chicken sandwich for £10 (at the time of this review 07/2023). That includes a side of fries. I noticed every restaurant that you walk In the host will ask you about any allergies or intolerances. If you let them know you're they will let you know what to avoid. Or if they do not know they will send you a manager who knows. There must have been a huge problem with allergies and it is a great way to avoid it. It is, in the beginning, a bit annoying until you realize it is actually a good thing (I wonder if Mcdonald's to the same - I'll might have to try that). So I ordered the chicken burger with a breaded fried chicken breast some black pepper mayo sauce some salad, Onions, and a slap of avocado. WOW - the nicely tasting breaded chicken was fried to perfection and it was a really big piece without drying out. Good job! the "burner" was definitely the combination of chicken and that avocado spread mixed in With the black Peppercorn mayonnaise - an almost perfect bite. The bun was not too big to get in the way of tasting what's important all other ingredients have been fresh and am tasty the fries also fried to a crisp state without being burned. I don't think Walrus is really geared up for a lunch time spot. We won a 'free' lunch. We booked in as told. We went in at this time and waited at the bar to speak to someone. This took longer than it should, as there only appeared to be one member of staff. We were clear that we had booked and mentioned the prize. They would have to check with a manager. So no record of the 'booking' then. We had to get this checked another 3 times during our visit. Each time adding another 5 minutes to our 'express' lunch. In the end it took around 15 mins before we'd even ordered. It was nearly an hour until we had our Calzones, and we had no time to try and enjoyed them as like most people, we have to be back at work. The Cazlones weren't worth the wait. I'd expect more burger than 3 small slices in something called a Cheeseburger Calzone. And the 'free' lunch cost us £8 in total, which seemed steep for not even a pint of meantime. You may say I'm a dreamer. But I expected more, even if it was a free lunch. We didn't feel like winners by the end of it all.

The most recent time i've visited a similar place to F&B's was at TGI Friday's, where I visited two different branches around late Summer and Autumn of this year and found it awful, so I wanted to see if I came into this branch and it seemed very busy, it was quite a large place and did go down and was much bigger than what it looked in general, sadly I was located close to the back of the restaurant where the signal is awful, I couldn't even connect to the wi-fi or the other wifi which I was connected to beforehand, The Cloud which I presume was the wifi run by Sky, it still appeared that I could connect, but nothing would work, even my mobile data was incredibly slow. When I was greeted, I was given a pager and had a short wait to get to get a table, this was quite awkward as it wasn't a really busy time when I visited, however I allowed it as I didn't really want to go anywhere else as I liked the improved menu and wanted to give Frankie and Benny's one more shot. I decided to order a starter and a main course today, for my starter I opted for the Potato Skins with BBQ Chicken, Cheese and Sweetcorn. The starters taken quite a while to arrive, and took so long I even questioned and wondered whether the mains and starters would arrive at the same time. I did have some problem with the staff, it just seems sometimes they were friendly, and sometimes they weren't, I did ask for help in connecting to the wifi and I was unable to connect and she basically blamed it on the signal, and didn't seem too helpful, albeit I admit their might not have been anything she could do, but she could have seemed more friendly and helpful when assisting me. This made me frustrated as one of the reasons I was drawn in was through the advertising of free wifi, even for this store and it was misleading considering this. The pricing was a little expensive as it did come to £50 for 2 starters and 2 mains and drinks for my friend and I, this might seem reasonable but some items just seemed slightly overpriced by a pound or two. I was also upset I couldn't get a signal after finding out about a loyalty scheme where you get a £10 voucher if you sign up, I decided to try and do this and I was once again quite upset to be told that I couldn't use it until my next visit, which was down to the code taking around 24 hours to process for some bizarre, frustrating reason. My potato skins starter was okay, it was quite nice however it would have been nice to have some more chicken inside it, apart from that I did reasonably enjoy it and it was quite filling. I would like to comment the starters were a little too big, my friend ordered garlic bread and received a full garlic bread pizza and he also found this to be far too much just for a starter, and it is probably something that needs to be shared and should be used as a sharing board, rather than a starter. I then moved onto my main course, I ordered the maple glazed gammon which came with a jacket potato, 2 fried eggs and some peas, this food was okay, the cut of gammon was quite nice however it was quite a fatty piece around the edges, so I did have to cut some of it off as I don't normally like to eat the fat. The jacket potato was basic and of course required seasoning with salt, pepper and butter however the butter was on my plate to add anyway. The peas were just a small number and didn't taste very good quality and basically didn't need to be there as they weren't a great addition to the meal. My friend, ordered a burger which was around £12 with chips and coleslaw - It was quite pricey because my friend just ordered a plain burger, which didn't have any cheese and salad and he was basically charged for one with lots of toppings on, which he didn't have. He said it was "just a burger" and didn't seem to comment on it, it basically seemed average. They didn't seem to ask how they wanted it cooked as they would at a burger specialist place such as GBK. Overall, I did like this place but there are sadly so many flaws with this branch which includes pricing, the wifi and service and of course the wait for a table at a time which wasn't really busy in general so sadly, I feel I can only give this place a high two star rating.

I've visited this TGI Fridays a couple of times now over the past couple of years, and I always seem to have issues, with this place not meeting the regular TGI Fridays standards at all, compared to nearby locations in Prestwich, Cheadle and The Trafford Centre, which are very good. The interior is dark, but they've tried to make it pretty cool with the large TGI Fridays writing on the wall, the motorbike at the front, and the number of booths. It's pretty large inside too, so there are plenty of tables, as it's the only TGI Fridays in the city centre with the Piccadilly Station one closing, this is useful. One thing which has remained consistent over the years and with other TGI Fridays is that a manager must take my order as I have an allergy, but this even included drinks - it felt annoying to be separated from the rest of my party when I wanted anything. On my most recent visit, I had the New York Strip steak with a Long Island Iced Tea, I do think the steak is a little pricey for a non-specialist chain, and for the quality. When it came, it was very tough, dry and fatty, even though I ordered it to be medium, so it wasn't a very good cut of steak at all. Both steak sauces also contain gluten, so I had to order BBQ sauce, which tasted great with the fries... but the steak not so much. The Long Island was good though, and the foam on the top was unlike most I've had before. They have regular offers on the cocktails too via their loyalty scheme, making it easy to get one for free or at a reduced price near and then. The mobile signal in the restaurant is also non-existent, despite it being fine just outside, so I'm not sure why that is, there is WiFi though which works after you fill in the tedious form. The staff seemed nice enough and did apologise for being unable to assist with my order due to company policy. 2* - The staff are friendly enough and the drinks are good, that's pretty much it, I wouldn't come back for food but I wouldn't rule out returning for drinks only.

Food wise, the dogs, as Andrew Y. mentioned, have a rather odd hard outer skin but I actually quite liked that. I didn't realise my burrito dog would actually come in a wrap, but it was pretty tasty. Next time I want the one with Doritos. Or the Reuben. There's a lot of choice. There is also a MAC N CHEESE PIZZA whaaaaat. Dogs n' Dough. That's what they serve. Hot dogs and pizza. And to be honest I've been meaning to…read moregive them a try for quite a while but only tended to remember about them when I walk past their neon lights directing them down Bow Lane, near St Peter's Square in Manchester City Centre, but it's usually not when I'm looking for food. This time I made a point of finally going to visit. I like that at night it feels a bit secretive being down a little side street, then down into a basement restaurant. Inside feels reflective of being outside at night too, with theatrical lighting, neon signs, and dark wooden furniture. One thing about the decor I particularly liked was the cartoon drawing all over of various hot dogs. When I asked the staff about these, they apparently originate with a guy who travelled all around the USA trying the speciality hot dogs, then drawing them as posters. What a job! It's a good talking point and unique as a decoration, I'll say that much! The atmosphere is friendly and cosy, people laughing and chatting whilst trying bits of each others pizzas and hotdogs. The menu has great tongue-in-cheek names for their offered dishes, and in the drinks menu I was happy to see that there was a large selection of soft drinks available for those of us who don't drink, including imported US sodas that aren't easy to come by here. It's so nice to find somewhere doing soft drinks other than the standard Coke/Fanta/Sprite fountain guns. We chose a root beer and a Dr Pepper Cherry Vanilla (although a Pepsi Cherry Vanilla came out, we didn't realise until afterwards because it was still pretty damn tasty). You're also given a bottle of water per table so you can enjoy your drinks rather than feeling you've rushed them due to thirst. Staff were friendly and enthusiastic, as well as knowledgeable of their product and environment. We were told how things were served, the types of pizza, hot dog sausage types etc, and when we decided to order some fries to share instead of a starter, the guy serving us observed this and told us that if we wanted to share the hot dogs that we'd ordered, they could be cut in half in the kitchen so we could easier share. That's a nice idea for couples and friends, I like it. I was very much considering the mac bites as a starter, but thought it best not to overfill before the main! We ordered the Kiev Fries, which were cheese, garlic butter, and herb crumb. Very tasty, and genuinely did taste like chicken kiev which gave me a giggle. We both took ages to decide what to have for our main, and instead of pizza we decided to go for the hot dogs. I ordered Cheesus Christ Superstar (heh) which was three cheese and caramelised red onion chutney. I was a bit surprised that the cheeses in question were melted slices of cheese rather than a sauce or grated cheese, but it worked, although I think a bigger serving of the caramelised red onion chutney would be better to balance out the cheese with the sweet. My partner ordered The Cowboy, which was house chilli, nacho cheese, crispy bacon, jalapeños and sour cream. He tells me that although it was very tasty, and the beef frank was great in flavour, it could perhaps have done with a little extra chilli. However, we were both impressed, and it certainly didn't come close to breaking the bank. So for good quality hot dogs in a pleasant atmosphere for pretty damn good value, definitely give these guys a visit! We will definitely be returning to try the other hot dogs, the starters, the pizza menu, maybe some of the drinks and th...in fact... well.. lets just say we'll definitely be going back!
