Drove from San Jose to visit this place. I got 40 mins tub and 90 mins deep massage. I really enjoyed both the massage and the tub. The tub is a private outdoor area where you can truly relax. My husband and I came in last weekend for massages and sauna. Sauna felt great. However, the massages were underwhelming. Mine apparently was much better than my husband's. He felt like his therapist hadn't been properly trained in any type of massage technique, or etiquette. The sheet was never properly draped and he felt extremely uncomfortable and exposed. There was no communication about pressure, or fluidity to the message at all. It was disappointing to hear he had such a negative experience, it will be hard to book anymore treatments here.... After posting my review of this business, I was directly contacted by the owner asking me to remove the negative post. He said, as he does with all Yelp reviews he would offer me a full refund in exchange for the removal of the negative public comments. I said I would greatly appreciate that and thanked him for making the gesture. As I didn't want to negatively impact their livelihood, I took the original post down. In another disappointing turn of events with Almonte spa I have yet to hear back from Trevor (the owner) regarding the refund. It's clear to see customer satisfaction is not at the forefront of this business. read more

I have been looking for a masseuse for quite some some. When I came into Almonte Spa it was finding a gem. Quite, clean and specializing in relaxing NOT selling products. My masseuse was Drew. I got a Swedish massage a few weeks ago, and the massage itself was good, but I felt that the staff was a bit condescending and just not friendly enough for a spa setting. The receptionist was pretty deadpanned and didn't have a great tone of voice which put me in an uneasy mood. I had a similar experience with the masseuse- her tone wasn't conducive to a relaxing environment. This wasn't my first time at a spa, but I'd was my first massage, which I told her. Afterwards, she asked if I enjoyed it and I said yes, and she replied that it was "interesting", which was a very condescending and odd response to that. I could tell that she hadn't worked with younger customers very much and was entertained by this being my first massage. Would recommend this spa for anyone who's had a massage before and isn't a young adult, but for me it wasn't a relaxing experience. read more

He really gets in on the muscles you might not even know you needed work on, but you'll definitely feel it during the session. Really had a terrible experience at Almonte. I sent my wife there for mothers day to relax. Once the massage started, the therapist kept telling my wife she needs to relax her muscles or she can't help her. The whole point of a massage is to help someone relax. The therapist finally stopped the massage and said 'How can i help you if you don't relax.' My wife felt so uncomfortable she stopped the massage. Please get more professional therapists. read more

I'm giving them four stars for how good they've been historically, and how good they could be. At the moment and from my last visit I'd say 2 stars: - Sent me to a tub that still had someone in it. Lucky for them they were clothed. - Note I shouldn't have been able to go through that gate to that tub if someone was in there. They removed the latches. Privacy is no longer an option here. - The lights at the tub are bright and unchangeable. You are under the stars, but can barely see them for the bright lights around you. I've been here probably a dozen times over the years, again the only reason for 4 stars is past experiences have been great. If this last one is how they do business now, I will not be back for some time, and would no longer recommend them. read more

As someone who loves a good tub soak, I was happy to find this spot. This is one of the nicer places I've been to in terms of ambiance. There are (I think) only two tubs in the back, with plenty of privacy and an open setting so you can enjoy the crisp air and the trees overhead. There is a shower to use before and after near the entrance to the two tub areas with shampoo, soap, and conditioner, and towels are provided. Additionally, the tub itself is a wonderful temperature, and you can do jets or no jets. I did notice that I didn't get a reminder of when my time was almost up (I usually get a 10 or 5 minute warning at other places), so that would have been nice. I assume at some point they would have kicked me out, but I just self-monitored my time. Also, I'd recommend booking ahead of time since this is a smaller spot. You can book online :) read more

I had an amazing experience! It's been 8 months since I had a massage due to COVID-19. I scheduled a couples massage with Hilary and David. However due to COVID-19, we had to be in separate room. I had a deep tissue massage and it was heavenly! It was also outside and the view of the sky and trees was awesome. I was looking forward to a girls day at the spa with a soak, steam and massage . While the tubs are maintained and manicured very well, I had an Extremely underwhelming massage experience as well as sauna. The sauna room isn't maintained safely. 3 different places that nail heads were sticking up! Enough for me to scrape my toe on one. Very unsafe. The massage was underwhelming. I had a female practitioner and the massage therapist began by rocking me... the table was so squeaky, I couldn't relax and really get into my massage. The therapist asked me about pressure and I replied that I would like deeper work on my shoulders and lighter work on my hamstrings as I had a recent injury. She told me she has been a massage therapist over 17 years and she knows how to tell what pressure the person on the table wants. I felt very awkward and uncomfortable, couldn't wait for this massage to end. I was just going to pay, leave and never go back... but, Upon checking out, the front desk lady asked me about my services and I told her honestly. She looked at me wide eyed and went silent. Loved my experience here! I've never been to a spa or had a massage before so I was pretty nervous coming in. I did the soak/soothe/sweat (infrared) and enjoyed it all. It was drizzling while I was there, but I think that made the hot tub experience even more magical. The massage with Kamil was great. Other reviews said the massage wasn't deep enough, but Kamil was upfront about saying it would be a light touch massage so I think it was just as advertised. The sauna was a nice finishing touch. I could hear the staff and other guests quite a bit while in the sauna but I was so relaxed by that point it didn't really bother me. They probably kept me from falling asleep in there :) Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed it. The staff were all very friendly. Next time I'm in Marin County, I'll definitely go back! read more

I received a $400 gift cert from my kids for the spa as they know I love massages. I had been going to a "budget spa" that does 75 minutes for $55. The quality is inconsistent at the budget place but always a great value. I also have had many massages at high end spas and resorts where I pay $200 for the same time. I don't go often because of the price but I always get consistent high quality when I do. I was expecting the same high quality at Almonte as I paid $195 for 90 minutes. I was disappointed as the budget spa gave better massages. The service at Almonte was good and the therapist was nice but he was a college professor and doing this as a side line to make extra money and seemed like a novice as he did not hit the key touch points or apply much pressure. Not good on extremities head and feet as you would expect. A spa that charges as this level should have a higher standard of therapists. Its not just the money as when I give 2 hours of my time plus $200 I expect a better experience. I will give them the benefit of the doubt that this therapist was an exception. I am going again this weekend with another therapist and hoping for a better massage. read more

After reading so many positive reviews about Almonte Spa, I was disappointed by my experience this weekend. I booked a last minute appointment for a hot tub soak and couples massage for me and my husband to unwind after a trip to Muir Woods. Online booking was super easy, and the prices seemed reasonable! The day of our appointment, I received a phone call in the morning from the spa letting me know that the hot tub was undergoing maintenance so it would be unavailable for use. Too bad! But the spa did offer us a complimentary infrared sauna instead, so I wasn't too disappointed. We arrive about 15 minutes early to our appointment, which I thought was a good idea because usually there is paperwork/wavier to fill out. The woman at the front desk seemed surprised to see us early, and I had to remind her that we were scheduled to use the sauna before our couples massage. She showed us to the sauna area, which was very small and only separated from the reception area by a curtain. The sauna was very tight for two people, and really more suited to one person at a time. Also, we could hear everything going on in the lobby including phone calls and other clients chatting while waiting. While we were getting out of the sauna, another client pulled back our curtain and saw my husband completely naked. After our sauna ended, no one came to get us for our massage, so we ended up standing in the hall in sarongs holding our clothes and shoes for over a half hour. We asked about our massage multiple times, and they kept saying it would only be a moment or two. There was no waiting room area, so we were kinda just standing around with other clients in sarongs. Finally it was time for our massages. The massages were okay, nothing amazing, but also not horrible. Two weird things though: the masseuse did not use lotion or oil for my husband's Swedish massage, and he played music from his phone instead of the speaker in the room. Needless to say, we will not be returning. The logistics and customer service experience was not great. Overall the experience was more strange than relaxing! read more

The massage was great and the facilities are nice. My only critique is the spa's set up and timing. In regard to timing: We had reserved a 45 min hot tub and 75 min massage. We arrived at 1pm and they had my partner and I wait 15min to get to the hot tub because it was being used. When we finally got in and got comfortable they told us our time was up, we were only in there for 30 min. We were then told we had a choice of staying in the tub longer or shortening our massage because our massage could not be extended. We were on time to arrive and excited to relax but was very disappointed to be given the option of cutting our time short on one of the two things we came there for. As for the Set up of the Spa: They have the hot tubs on one side of the facilities and the massage rooms on the other side. If you are going to use the hot tubs then get a massage you basically have to walk through the waiting room in a towel to get to your massage, passing the front desk and front door. It was a chill experience overall. They were all very nice. Just wished they were a bit more organized so I could fully enjoy the experience, especially for how much it costs. read more

The female "massage therapist" I had was very rude, unprofessional, SEVERELY LACKING in massage therapy skills (the absolutely WORST and painful "massage" I've ever had at a spa) and manners and was very inconsiderate of our time (she came into the treatment room LATE). This would be a NO-STAR review if Yelp allowed it as way too much of our time and money was spent at Almonte. Not only was the therapist rude, snarky, rough and extremely heavy-handed - I had to tell her *several times* to lighten up on the pressure - on my small frame (5' 5", 110 lbs), I doubt she bothered to change the sheets before my session because I developed an itchy, red rash all over - on my chest, back, and extremities. NEVER again! This was one of the worst birthday "gifts" (it was more like a beating...pure torture) I've ever received. read more

I booked a hot tub and couples massage for my husband and me on a Thursday. The hot tub was nice and private, but you have to pay to rent towels and there's no shower shoes provided nor were we shown where to store our things. They told us they'd come get us for the massage - when they came to get us there was someone in the shower so we had to wait to use it. Then we were expected to traipse through the facility and lobby in towels holding our things. The hot tub and massages were booked back to back and by the time we got into the massage room it was 10 minutes past our start time and they ended the massage on time (so we only got a 50 minute massage). I had the best experience here on Mother's Day. It was easy to book an appointment. The facility is clean and relaxing. The hot tub could be hotter though. I requested a sports massage/deep tissue. The therapist was very detailed. I told her where most of my pain was located, shoulders and shoulder blades etc. She massaged the tissues related to the pain ie muscles underneath the armpit, collarbone, base of neck & head, forearms and the palms of my hands. It was amazing. I slept really well that night. Definitely coming back. read more

Came here with my wife for an anniversary weekend kick off. We started with the hot tub. 30 minutes was too long. We then had a couples massage. It was in the front room. The massage was enjoyable and I fell asleep. However every now and then a truck would rumble down the street. I think double pane windows would help. The hot tub must have a lot of chlorine because all weekend I could smell it on my skin. Next time I would skip the hot tub. read more

If every human got a massage with Maryah, the world would be a better place! I am a sincere massage enthusiast! My experience with Maryah today was by far the most thorough, relaxing and beneficial massage I've had in years. You can clearly tell that she puts her passion and dedication to healing with massage therapy into every experience. I am 38 weeks pregnant and many therapists can be hesitant to provide the needed experience pregnant women need. Maryah not only listened to my needs but also provided techniques to ease my back soreness that I'd never experienced before. Leon is AMAZING! I have had several back and shoulder injuries that he has worked his magic on and totally restored me. I thought I had been getting deep tissue massages all of my life and realized half way through my massage with him that this was the actual first time that I had a deep tissue massage. I could tell right away that he knew what he was doing. he squeezed my shoulders on either side of my neck and instantly explained where my pain was and more importantly where it was originating from. Instead of just working on the painful area he worked on the muscles that were causing the pain and relieved the tension throughout. As for the spa, we had a hot tub and shower. both were clean, quite and well maintained. The staff is friendly and easy to work with. I've only availed myself of their hot tubs so I can't comment on their massages (yet). I signed up for a hot tub about 24 hours advance after finding my local place booked for a week solid. I called to confirm my appointment with a very nice receptionist(?). It was a cold, rainy night- perfect tub weather. Only a 25 minute drive from Berkeley. The place is immaculate! Staff person was extremely helpful and nice. After asking if it was my first time there, I was shown the facilities and then to the tub on the north (to the left). It was beautiful- nice plants, statues, good lighting and partially covered so my clothes and towels could stay dry. There are two showers, one indoors and the other outdoors. Towels are included with the tub. I'm definitely coming back and soon. Just hope it doesn't become overrun like the Oakland place where I used to go. read more

I cannot say enough ... my husband has been raving about this spa for quite some time and I finally decided to give it a try. Every muscle in my body was sore and I was feeling worn down. I called to make an appointment and was asked if I would like to enjoy a hot tub soak before my service. I thought ... why not? So, I soaked for 30 minutes OUTSIDE in the beautiful, crisp Mill Valley air and then went to my service. My therapist was Liya and she is AMAZING! She was very kind, professional and informative. I left Almonte Spa feeling like a brand new person (which has NEVER happened with any prior spa appointments). Almonte is lovely - I adore the hot tubs under the redwood trees and massages on the outdoor cabana are incredibly relaxing. All of my massages here have been excellent. Came for a birthday trip for the jacuzzi and sauna so I could relax. It was fantastic. When you get it in, there are signs asking you to speak softly (which I enjoy). The receptionist was very welcoming. Prior to coming here for my day of relaxation, every other company I called in Oakland (Piedmont Springs and Piedmont Spa) were being jerks over the phone, so this was a refreshing welcoming. As I came in, I was shown to the jacuzzi and the cedar sauana. I took a shower and immediately jumped into the jacuzzi with an open sky and trees above. It happened to be raining making it incredibly relaxing. I was also the only person in the jacuzzi. After some time, I walked to the cedar sauna where I had enough space to lie down and soak in all of the heat. I finished up, took one last shower and left. I think my one piece of advice to management is to consider another water machine near the sauna. I'll be back with my girlfriend for a massage. read more

Being my first time at a spa, I was a bit nervous but they showed me around the facility and went over all the details (sauna and clothing options private hot tub area). You get all the privacy in the world and their facility is well kept. 45 mins soak followed by swedish massage and sauna. Mia was awesome and made sure I was comfortable throughout the experience. My first time at Almonte Spa, and I'm so happy I went. I had a deep tissue aromatherapy massage by Tonya, who was warm and friendly and checked in with me the perfect amount (I have a couple of injuries). From there I moved to the infrared sauna. I've not done that before and was quite pleased with how gently the infrared heats you up. Usually I feel like I can't breathe in a traditional sauna and im sensitive to heat (I can't tolerate most hot tubs, for instance.) Some spas can feel sterile to me, but Almonte felt cozy while still being clean and luxurious. Ocean and the other staff I interacted with were welcoming, helpful and exuded calm low-key charm. I will definitely return and there's a high probability that I'll want to do the same treatments I did this time. read more
