I was super nervous and didn't know what to expect (will it hurt, etc) but I booked my first session 2 days after my surgery and made it to the appointment in their beautiful Mill Valley Location. Yes- you really can go a day or two after surgery. Jordana was wonderful - she was very kind and eased my nerves immediately, even though I was 30 minutes late (whoops.) The massage was very gentle, not painful at all- and afterwards she advised on my compression garments and sent me on my way feeling so much better and with a lot more mobility than when I hobbled in. A few days later I saw Stefanie in the San Francisco location- she was also wonderful- but I ended up mostly going up to Mill Valley for the rest because the location is more convenient from where I live (and has free parking :) I'm not sure where I'd be without Jordana at this point-probably a ball of anxiety and nerves which apparently isn't good for recovery. It's been amazing to see someone consistently who can tell me if everything is looking and healing OK, and help adjust the compression when needed. When we moved to California I was heartbroken to say good-bye to Seattle and my massage therapist. Anyone who goes in for regular massages knows that when you find the right person it's like finding gold. It took me almost a year to find Tim after we moved here, and going through several massage therapists in the process, but he was worth the wait! If I could get a massage from Tim everyday I would. I go in to him broken and he fixes me up every time. I get 90-minute deep massages and with some other massage therapists I would sometimes feel a little sore from the pressure or the opposite, they would be too soft on my poor knotty body and I would still be all wound up. I actually didn't realize that you didn't have to be sore after a deep tissue massage, an effective deep tissue massage, until I went to see Tim. Tim has the perfect technique. My mom is just as bad with her back and shoulders so when she comes and visits me she always goes to see Tim. If you're in need of some relief and want a really good deep tissue massage go and see Tim. He'll fix you right up. His rates are comparable if not better than some other places. Tipping is not expected. $75 per 60-minute massage $110 per 90-minute massage I think he also does in-home massages and those rates would probably be different from his office massages. Either way, if you need some help with a sore back, shoulders, whatever - Tim will fix you right up. If you've been to Mill Valley Massage, look no more, this is the Tim that was there. She is highly organized and very responsive. I also loved the online mom support groups with different topics covered each week - these were so helpful! For the doula services, Alana was wonderful. She is very laid back and easy to talk to while also being super knowledgable and attentive. I wasn't sure if I was going to try to have a natural birth or get an epidural and I felt like Alana was ready to support me no matter what option I wound up choosing. Also, my husband tends to be very anxious around any medical or hospital setting so we weren't sure if he would be able to be with me for all of labor and delivery. Our meeting before birth was great because Alana was able to listen to his concerns and talk him through what L&D would be like so he wouldn't be so nervous. We only wound up being able to have one pre-birth meeting because my baby decided to show up 6.5 weeks early! Thankfully, Alana was able to meet us at the hospital within an hour of my husband calling her (around 3am??). My labor proceeded very quickly and we were both overwhelmed because we had not anticipated having our baby that early. Alana remained a calm and consistent presence throughout my labor and for a while after delivery after they took my baby to the NICU. She was also able to ask the nurses and doctors questions we had completely forgotten to ask and kept us up to date with everything that was happening. My husband wound up being able to stay for most of L&D and I think a lot of that has to do with Alana being there - we both felt fully supported the entire time. We had three post-partum sessions with Alana and they were also incredibly helpful. I would definitely recommend her to others and would love to work with her again if we wind up having another baby (hopefully closer to my due date next time, hehe)!

She seems to know things well, no concerns there, but we were a bit put off by the very commercial set up, ie, the initial consultation had a charge while all the other doulas were ok to do a free into over video. Then we got cut off because the initial intro appointment was so time limited (I think it was 15 minutes if I recall). Her regular emails are helpful, but we ended up not hiring her just because it seemed so money driven (her prices are on the high end, which looking at the reviews does seem to be somewhat justified).
