Second visit here was about a couple of weeks ago. On our first visit we had breakfast. The shrimp and grits was my choice and on the second visit it was the catfish lunch with yams as my side. The shrimp and grits were good, could have used a few more shrimps. The dish was seasoned well and had flavor. The catfish was fried perfect and tasted great. The only thing I didn't care for was the yams.. not sweet enough, nor cooked long enough and very stringy since they use fresh yams. Want to try the oxtails but they ran out early. Both times we ordered to-go due to Covid-19 restrictions but the food was well packaged and held until we got home. My family is from deep in Mississippi so we can be picky about our soul food preferences. Every month, our book club tries to find black-owned businesses to support. This month, we chose Alma's. When I called to make a reservation, I was please with the phone service. The lady was really polite and thanked me for choosing Alma's. I called the morning of our reservation to confirm and they were ready for us. I really like that you pay for your food before and not after --very convenient for large parties. The gentleman who took our order was very polite. Customer service is always important and that alone would keep me going back. Our food was delicious and came out FAST! Now I will admit that when I saw the greens, I was worried. TODAY'S ORDER 5/13/18 - MOTHER'S DAY! I've ordered Uber Eats from here, have personally eaten here and have enjoyed the consistency of the food and the customer service UNTIL TODAY! It's never a good thing to hire family. They can damage your business with their horrible customer service. Today I made an Uber Eats order and specifically ordered condiments as well as a cup of ice. Now, all my orders up until now have been exact, until I didn't receive my cup of ice. I called to inquire and had the horrible experience in speaking to speak to the owners daughter who stated that they don't sell drinks through the Uber Eats app for fear of spillage (which is a lame excuse) and was overly rude about her stance on never adding drinks to the Uber Eats menu. I relayed to her how I personally spoke to the owner about this and she was going to look into adding drinks to the menu for others have inquired and complained. This idiot today told me it was never going to happen no matter what request was made to the owner, she makes all the decisions and it was final. Her bold, tacky, disgusting and arrogant attitude does not need to be dealing with the public. And when I chose not to sit on the phone arguing with this dummy, she had the audacity to call me back! This is a very very late review. But despite it being at least a month after my first visit it was still on my mind to remember to leave a review. I would definitely recommend this place as we don't have many authentic soul food restaurants anymore (at least in my opinion). The food was 5 stars.
