    Whole fish crudo

Went here for our anniversary dinner. This is a small restaurant about 20 minutes from downtown Montréal. We arrived a bit before our reservation but were seated almost immediately as the restaurant had just opened for the evening. We were informed that more recently their menu has adopted more traditional Mexican cuisine than Spanish. We opted for the 5 course tasting menu. Our waiter was very friendly and when we asked him to suggest a wine, he obliged and did a great job as it was very good. We were started off with a cold corn based soup/broth served in a coconut shell. It had a nice flavor. Next we had oysters with squid ink and charred peppers. I am not a big raw oyster person, but these had interesting flavors. Next was a crab tostada with greens and an avocado jalapeño sauce. This was delicious and a nice change from the cold starters. Next we had a whole fish crudo rubbed in salt and lime with some other spices. This looked and tasted amazing and was so refreshing and good! Our second to last course was halibut steamed in banana leaf in a tomato olive sauce which was slightly spicy and salty. Lastly we finished with a beef carpaccio taco. This was the winner and so good! I could have eaten another couple of these. Overall, everything we had was very good and the wait staff was very attentive and nice.

I came here on a Wednesday night with my aunt. Too bad it had rained earlier that day because it would have been nice to sit on the terrace in front of the restaurant but unfortunately the tables and chairs were wet. We arrived promptly for our reservations at 6:30pm and it was already really busy. I felt we were a bit rushed to leave at 8:30 pm because they wanted us out for the second service. So I chugged the last of my wine and we left. We didn't have dessert but we were too full for dessert anyway. My aunt is on the paleo diet so she has a lot of dietary restrictions. She informed the waitress that she couldn't eat cheese but the waitress did not inform her that the chicory salad that she ordered had cheese in it. It was basically a Caesar salad with potatoes chips, cheese and anchovy dressing. I liked it because it tasted like a Caesar salad. It was my first time having chicory. Its a bit like kale but a tad bitter. I had the shrimp with chorizo. It was in a thick tomato sauce. My aunt could only eat the shrimp and chorizo without the sauce because bread had been blended into the sauce. I really enjoyed this dish. The shrimps were big too but sadly there were only three of them! I then shared the grilled octopus with patatas bravas. The octopus was good but the potatoes were just ok. There was a lot of it too! And because my aunt couldn't eat potatoes due to her diet I had to eat the whole thing! We also shared the whole fish with vegetables and lemon butter. I'm not a fish person but I agreed to order it because it was basically the only thing she could eat on the menu. There wasn't much meat on the fish and there was a couple of bones. The veggies were all cut up and consisted of carrot, asparagus and turnips among other things. The buttery sauce was what was good about this dish. At the end of the meal they gave us each a shot of homemade limoncello and butter cookies which honestly was a nice touch. I also had two glasses of white wine during dinner which was so good but unfortunately it was a private import so I wouldn't be able to get it at the SAAQ. I probably wouldn't come back but I do recommend it because I think it's worth a try. I think this restaurant would be a nice place to take a date.... taste some fabulous wine and share some plates. You definitely can't stay and talk afterwards because the restaurant gets busy and they want you out. Understandably so.

It's Friday night and the restaurant is full capacity! The venue located on a quiet residential street in Outremont is small and with a full house, especially warm. Our group of 8 was promptly welcome and seated near the window. As this is a wine bar, I was especially excited to try one of their many private imports. As others weren't into sharing bottles, the server was outstanding at recommending some wonderful wines by the glass; most are priced between 13$ and 14$ a glass; I enjoyed every drop and the recommendation were bang on! I love when a resto has their staff trained on wine pairings! Our group shared a variety of small plates. Although we wanted everything on the menu, we opted for the jambon and fennel for starters, the putanella, the burrata, the shrimp, two pasta dishes and whole sea bream. All the dishes were perfectly executed, delicious, and made with local and seasonal products; you can taste the freshness and love in every bite! The pasta really stood out; fresh, flavourful and rich. The burrata and roasted beets was exceptional as well. Yes, we barely had room left in our tummies but had to try the desserts! A blueberry sorbet with panna cotta, a brownie with candied orange, and a apple crumble compote. Although the brownie was way too sweet for my taste, the combination of flavours were super good! Plates are priced from 9$ to 29$, which makes for an affordable night out for quality food and service! Four stars mostly cause the space felt cramped, and way too warm; during the second service around 8:30, it was a little chaotic too, with way too many people packed in the front door, but overall, I really enjoyed my visit at this resto.I would love to go back when the terasse is open.

Super cool open kitchen and wine ladder!

One of the very best! I called to see if there was a reservation available the night of, which I knew was going to be highly unlikely. The hostess said no, they were packed, but she would call me if there was a cancellation. I didn't expect anything, but then she actually called!! She was the sweetest. It was an insanely delicious dinner, everything on the menu is amazing, but my favorite was the anchovies on butter and bread. The wine is great, they bring out and let you try a few based on the type and flavor profile you're looking for, and the vibe and ambience is cozy and trendy. I love it here! You must visit!

Overpriced mediocre food. Unprofessional and rude staff. In a city with so many amazing options, Alma deserves no attention.

To start, the vibes right when you walk in are impeccable. The restaurant is dimly lit with candles and the bar is warm and welcoming. The service is personable and the waiter made great recommendations. The duck breast was the star of the show with the crispy layer of skin and well seasoned tender meat. The mushroom conserva also earned its stars with a great combination of savory umami with a hint of spice. The deconstructed croque madam special was also decent. The trouble came with the cod which was very salty. We asked to send it back and our waiter was gracious enough to help us replace it with the agnolotti. While the agnolotti tasted great, we would've liked the sauce to be a little thicker so it would stick to the agnolotti. We had white wine to accompany our meal which helped tie the meal together. Overall, I would say Entre-Deux is a great meal that gets you full with a reasonable price tag. And 11/10 for vibes and service.

This small-ish, cozy café/resto/bar in NDG serves both lunch and dinner and while the aesthetic and ambiance can seem quite lowkey and unassuming, the quality of the food is absolutely highkey, menu is well thought out & reflects fresh seasonal ingredients and above all, incredibly delicious! (Chef is from Manu Cornuto). They have great selection of natural wines (my fave) and they carry a lot of Dieu du vin wines (another fave local wine company). We ordered a bottle of wine for the evening but the bartender is the mixologist from Cloakroom so I can't wait to return and try their cocktails as well. It is a tapas menu made to share but the portions were surprisingly quite generous and we ordered 3 'appetizers', 1 'main' and a dessert between the two of us. The beef tartare and the bitter lettuce salad were both amazing (and I was too hungry to take a photo of these dishes). The grilled cauliflower with mornay sauce alongside the braised rabbit was also to die for. I am not usually a dessert gal but I was very grateful that we tried their dessert of the day as it was so good! Based on reading the menu and their story, I knew I was going to like this place but I can't wait to bring more of my friends here. It is worth mentioning that I thought the pricing here is quite fair for what you get, especially seeing as many restos upped their prices significantly post-pandemic. It could also be that they have 25% off all wine and cocktails on Sundays and we came on a Sunday (it was a very nice surprise ). Overall: 5 Food: 5 Service: 5 Value: 5 Ambiance/Atmosphere: 3.8

I found the cuisine to be vibrant and healthful, with bright and energizing flavors that were well executed overall. The staff are knowledgable about the menu and dish conception, and generally pleasant and friendly to converse with. (Jacqual: B) - Simply presented drink that features hibiscus and citrus with zero proof beer, which I found fascinating. The beer notes are in the background prevailed by the sourness of the other components, where I wish there was a little more added sweetness. (Fried Maitake: A) - Perfectly seasoned dish with tender and high surface area mushrooms coated in an impressly crisp batter given the moisture usually found in mushrooms. The seasoning could not be better with the salt and spice combo; the chive and parsley mayo also add an herbaceous depth of flavor. (Heirloom Tomatoes: A) - Pefectly plated tomatoes with a surprising sunflower seed forward profile given the subtleness of the ingredient; the dish is well balanced and brings out the harmonious flavors of the garden, although I think the bites with flake salt had that even more perfect note. (Hanger Steak: A+) - Beautifully perfected cut of beef with Asian inspiration; the steak is juicily pink with a charred exterior; the carrot ginger puree has a lovely mild and lingering spice, with some additional spice coming from the shishito and the pickled jalapeno. Beautiful dish. (Peach Sorbet: C) - Flavorally pleasant dessert with peach three ways and a nut crumble to add crunch; the sorbet was very hard though and could have benefitted from spirits in the churning process.
