Outstanding class. Exceeded my expectations. T.J Johnston is a true professional in the world of training. His Knowledge and experience made the class enjoyable. I strongly recommend his class if you want to learn the basics in firearms. I will be taking other classes that he instructs. read more

Always fun to be in TJs class. Very informative and makes the class fun! Thank you again!

This is my second review, meaning I am a returning customer. I enjoyed NRA Rifle Instructor trainings and came back for my NRA RSO. Subject wise I felt it may be a dry class but TJ's teaching techniques are outstanding and it went beyond my expectations. We had a range visit and the observation not only is complementary to the course but I believe it is a must to get the hands-on experience. Other than the materials, TJ's personal life long experience in this filed is the cherry on top. I highly recommend TJ Johnston and Allsafe Defense System. In addition I highly recommend all, regardless of your political affiliations, to read his book entitled Always Safe, learn to win without fighting. read more

As an NRA certified instructor (Pistol & Rifle), I freely admit that this is where I go for my training. It's important to seek out the highest level of training you can find, the One with more experience than you, perhaps even One that helped write the book. (literally) My only complaint, of course, is that he does NOT use flannel boards is his presentation- which is clearly included in the instructors handbook as an approved method of visual instruction. What he will do is provoke his class into a deeper understanding of the material and avoid the standard 'lecture'. Cheers, TJ, for a job consistently well done. read more

I've received a lot of information that was presented with keeping my attention. No time was wasted hearing and reading the necessary paperwork that can be used in real life experiences. The instructor kept each student wanting to participate; as well as learning who was in the class. The classroom was comfortable and it was like sitting with family. While in the class I didn't think of what more to do for a hobby. I know how I can make my life better and other who want to learn more about weapons safety and handling. Thank you again TJ. I'll be signing up for another class soon. read more

The CCW/NRA Personal Protection Outside the Home Course is excellent. It's a great way to evaluate ones skills, identify strengths and weaknesses in a safe and controlled environment. Prior to taking this advanced course, I suggest taking other courses with Allsafe Defense Systems. I intend to take the courses again as a way to improve skills and be a safe marksman. After taking the CCW/NRA Personal Protection Outside the Home Course, I enrolled in the Advanced Handgun: Moving While Shooting Course. The Advance Handgun: Moving While Shooting Course is an excellent training course, but it's challenging and demanding. Prior to taking this course, it's a must to take the CCW/NRA Personal Protection Outside the Home Course to evaluate your skills. I plan to take this course again as a way to continue to build and maintain skills. On a scale of 1 to 10, I give the Allsafe Defense Systems Chief Instructor and the instructors on his staff a rating of 10. read more

What can I say. I make the drive from San Diego area to take classes from TJ. I have met other classmates who travel from long distances to take classes from TJ. He doesn't just lecture. He has and abundance of various classes including those who wish to become instructors as well. The classes are interactive and he connects with all students from beginner to advanced. TJ has been at this for quite a while and it shows. His subject knowledge and instructional technique in the classroom and on the range takes you from where you are encouraging you further. While he takes safety seriously, his style isn't militaristic. In addition, he teaches live fire classes I have yet to experience anywhere else for a price that is extremely reasonable. Let's face it. We ALL NEED experience and training...excellent training. As a retired citizen, I cannot afford to waste precious ammunition with little gain. I also cannot afford the expense of what most charge for classes of this caliber in other states of our nation. And to find these classes in California? I can assure you, once you take a class from TJ you will be back for more. I have become a regular. read more

TJ and his Team provide a very informative, relaxed, yet safe and informative, educational environment that makes it very clear the importance of understanding the responsibilities of this privilege. Every opportunity to participate in the classroom is provided and time is always taken to listen to the participants and answer any questions and concerns and make sure everyone walks away with a clear understanding of the laws and responsibilities. On the range, both TJ and his Team take all the time necessary to make sure everyone knows not only each phase of the training exercise, but the reasons behind each one. They are very understanding and work with everyone on an individual level as much as needed given the time available but no slack is cut on making sure you are capable of safely and effectively able to operate your equipment properly in order to meet the requirements necessary to pass. I Highly recommend TJ and All Safe Defense to anyone wanting to not only obtain your CCW, but to walk away fully understanding what it means to hold this valued tool. read more

Just attended the Low light indoor shooting class. It was challenging and fun. This is a great place to build one's shooting skills! This is a top notch firearms training school! read more

TJ was a great instructor, learned a lot and enjoyed the course. Would certainly take more courses from him. thanks read more

I took my first class with TJ in 2001. It lead to an amazing journey teaching firearms and self-defense but that's beside the point. I still take classes with Allsafe Defense systems and with each class I learn something new, whether it is shooting technique or teaching skills. TJ and his team are top notch. I can highly recommend all of his training for people interested in shooting sports of the use of firearms as tools for self-defense! read more

I have been going to TJ's classes for over a decade. TJ is top notch, so is his curriculum and philosophy. It doesn't matter the skill level or attitude towards firearms, TJ offers a wide range of options. TJ is also informed, involved and intimately understands the CCW program. There is no better resource. read more

We just took the basic handgun course last week. We are 2 middle aged women who had no experience with handguns. TJ, Marty and all of the instructors are so knowledgeable, friendly and patient! The first hour is an informative, interactive classroom setting where they teach you gun safety, parts of the gun, your stance, eye domination and how to properly hold the handgun. In the shooting range portion, the instructors were very detailed and provided individual guidance and assistance as needed. Way beyond what we expected and we've been talking about it for days. We highly recommend this class to anyone with no experience who wants to learn how to properly and safely handle firearms. For those who already have experience, it is an excellent refresher course. It was an extraordinarily awesome experience and we will be going back!! THANK YOU TJ, MARTY and STAFF!! Lori and Toni read more

My wife and I have been coming to train with TJ and his team over the past few years, completing several different courses with a consistent experience. In each case, the material covered is safely and comfortably presented in a digestible tempo for everyone enrolled. The atmosphere is fun and engaging while always meeting the necessary skills for the course with professionalism and a genuine interest to meet each students needs consistently. It is not often you find someone that has honed not only their skill in the subject matter presented, but also has taken the time to learn more about each student and how to meet them where they are at individually. TJ and his team of dedicated instructors all share this trait and it shows. There is a lifetime of knowledge and skill that is transferable to those willing to learn. This is an excellent place to become more of what you seek, look no further, you won't be disappointed. read more

This was my first class at Allsafe. I take classes religiously all over the state and I was thoroughly impressed with the instructor, and I will be returning for his classes. TJ Johnston has a great way of making everyone in class feel like they can successfully complete the task at hand. I appreciated the way he treated me, and all the students. read more

I lost my gun virginity to these guys, and loved it! I learned how to handle a handgun and had a blast (get it?) shooting it, and the best part was that the range, guns, and ammo all came as one package for one class, one session in one day for a pretty reasonable price. They were passionate, they were caring, they were helpful, they knew what they were doing, and they took gun safety very seriously, including eye and ear protection, while still being very fun. Honestly, the only reason why I didn't give them a perfect 5/5 is the fact that they didn't try to enforce the mask wearing rule in the gun range and in the lecture room. Only about half of us (staff and shooters and I included) wore face masks, while the other half didn't. Even if COVID-19 wasn't the issue, I honestly think that there should be some form of mask wearing rules anyways, considering how lead dust is a legitimate issue for us gun enthusiasts. And yeah, while the face masks for COVID/diseases won't do much against lead dusts, it's at least better than nothing, especially when shooting indoors. Still though, I can't say I didn't love the smell of my smoking gun after firing one for the first time ever. Even with the little issue with the lack of mask wearers, I'd still love to come back to these guys to learn more about guns. ^^ read more

My husband and I took the beginner basic handgun course with TJ. I was kind of nervous about it, but TJ and the amazing staff of volunteers were awesome! At first I was looking for a course with the minimum requirements to obtain my CCW but after taking this course I realize how critical every single bit of information that TJ presented was. You receive so much information its almost overwhelming but in a good way. Its critical information and knowledge and it is presented in an extremely easily absorbed format. I highly recommend this class for anyone even considering getting a CCW. Just Excellent. I will be taking further course work with TJ after this course. read more

I'll preface by saying I'm a woman in my 50's and I had a great experience. I took the CCW/Personal Protection Outside the Home course and loved it. TJ is tough but patient. Safety is his number one priority and he's a plethora of knowledge. The entire staff was so sweet and patient with me as I tried to quickly reload with my speed loaders (I used a revolver) while the others were shooting autos. The in class portion was informative and engaging. The shooting portion is intense and physical but well worth it. I learned so much from TJ and his staff and I can't wait to go back for more training. I would like to encourage any other ladies thinking about taking this course. Do it! Empower yourself to defend yourself! read more

I recently completed the Basic Handgun course at Allsafe Defense Systems and it was a fantastic experience. I would highly recommend TJ and his team to anyone looking to learn more about handguns and how to safely use them. There was so much to learn in 3 1/2 hours but it was a ton of fun and definitely time well spent. I enjoyed the opportunity to try out a variety of handguns(6). The entire team was friendly and patient while instructing us as a group and one-on-one the proper techniques to shooting. I look forward to taking the advanced class soon! read more

I have been a customer of TJ for years now. From my initial ccw course, and a course of advanced fire, and now just having completed my 3rd ccw renewal. All of TJ's courses continue to be informative and entertaining at the same time, all the while conforming to the requirements of the state. During the classroom portion of the courses, TJ likes to get everyone involved in discussion with questions and answers, which is super helpful, since we all come from different walks of life. If you are reading my review, then you are probably looking for a firearm course of some type yourself. I can only speak for myself, but I have thoroughly enjoyed every course that I have taken from TJ and AllSafe Defense Systems, and I believe you will as well. read more

Bought my first handgun. Was given TJ at AllSafe as a referral when picking up my HKp2000sk at OC armory. Thought it was a smart idea, so I emailed TJ. He was quick in responding. I signed up on line for the 2 evening instructional, then live fire. It was FANTASTIC! Learned a lot of the basics necessary to be a responsible owner. TJ incorporated vast knowledge with career training, with a wry sense of humor (on occasion)! I'd very much recommend all first timers to get this specific training! read more

Excellent exp taking the NRA Protection Outside the Home 2 Day course. Here's what you get- you get to do all the things you can't normally do at the range but need in order to defend yourself. All taught in safe manner with a team of instructors. I learned a whole lot of new skills and I found things I've been taught elsewhere tweaked to make make my motions faster and smoother without compromising any safety. TJ and his team are really great at demonstrating what needs to be done and watching you to see what needs to be fixed or improved. Here's the one downside if you can even call it that- even though the class is 2 days long it doesn't feel like enough bc there is that much good information to learn and absorb. What it means is I'm looking for signing up for more classes with Allsafe to practice what I've learned, improve them and learn further skills that could end up. read more

What can I say, TJ is phenomenal!! I just completed the PPITH (NRA Personal Protection Inside The Home) course with TJ at Allsafe and it was a great experience. The course work was challenging but TJ was extremely patient and ready for any question I had. He explained the material in terms that were easy to understand and follow along, but on target of how an instructor would present them. His class room is well equipped with everything needed to present what exercise we were going over. He also has a library to kill for and so much reading material that is above and beyond this particular course but would be essential outside the classroom. He also shares his infinite knowledge and experiences that make learning so interesting. My journey of knowledge is not even close to being over and I look forward to taking more classes at Allsafe with TJ. xo Indi read more

Actually there isn't much left to say. I've been more than satisfied with content and execution in each of the six (or is it seven?) classes I've taken from All Safe Defense. Every supporting instructor (besides TJ) has been way more than competent, experienced, and a professional teacher that communicates well. And then there is the patient, always guiding, and results-oriented TJ - both in classroom and on the ranges. You will be challenged yet exposed safely to the handling of many forms of self-defense ....(Hint - A gun is a last resort.) And that is the perspective he offers. I got nothing else. You won't be disappointed with Allsafe - just don't rate a book's value by it's cover! read more

I did my homework trying to find a reputable company to take my NRA classes and Allsafe came up with some great reviews so i decided to go there. I don't normally write reviews but in this case i believe it is necessary. I have taken 2 classes from Allsafe Defense System, TJ was the instructor for the 2 classes and here is my experience. Absolutely fantastic! He was extremely knowledgeable, the course content and material was easily explained and he took his time to make sure we all understood and were moving along. He encourage TPI, total participation involvement which is extremely beneficial in learning the material and his teaching method was excellent. I got immersed in the classes, participated and thoroughly enjoyed my experience. TJ and Allsafe is where you want to go to get these classes and you too will have a great experience, learn plenty, excel, develop great skills and truly enjoy the classes. I have already signed up for another class and look forward to taking more as time goes on. i will not go anywhere else. Time and money well spent!!! read more
