EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING and UNPROFESSIONAL. Ridiculous how hard it was to sign up for a CCW renewal class. You can't sign up online. Per the website: "All renewal class registrations are taken over the phone!" So called and left a message. Then got an email back instructing me to call at a certain time, did and got the voicemail again. Went back and forth like this for several days. The instructor would tell me to "call tomorrow in the morning." Did so, but just got the voicemail and no return call. Too many other CCW renewal options available to deal with this nonsense. read more

Orville's course came highly recommended and now I know why. I attended Orville's Orange County and Multi-state CCW courses. The combined courses were so much more than I expected. Orville is an excellent instructor. Knowledgeable, thorough and most of all prepared me for the responsibility of carrying a concealed weapon. The course is 16 hours and it flew by. Orville made the course material interesting. He used the material as a basis for discussing real life examples. He fielded all questions patiently and in a way that helped everyone in the class comprehend the nuisances of carrying a concealed weapon and defending yourself and your loved one in a vast number of situations. "everything you wanted to know about CCW but were afraid to ask" Now for the range instruction. THE BEST IN OC I have handled firearms since I was a teen. I can say with 100 percent certainty that before Orville's course I was not prepared to unholster a weapon and defend myself. It is actually scary to think that there are people carrying weapons in OC that have not gone through Orville's weapons instruction. I only wish I could give more than 5 Stars. I attended the training this last weekend after doing a fair amount of research on who's course to take. I knew it would be a great course due to other yelp reviews however what I did not know was just how much information and training I was going to receive. Orville and Sheila are true Professionals. Most of us were very familiar with fire arms however we did have a couple of individuals who were new to shooting. This however was no problem due to the amount of pre-session training as well as constant professional supervision! SAFETY WAS ALWAYS THE NUMBER ONE CONCERN! Orville is a true credit to his profession and I really can not imagine how anyone could due this course better! If getting a CCW is something you are interested in you could not choose better instructors than Orville and Sheila Wright. read more

Orville is an incredible instructor. The class was very informative, and his presentation kept the atmosphere light and fun. I chose the "multi state" option, and I left the class with two separate folders with everything I needed. He literally walks you through the entire process (even helping with exact documentation & copies of photos of required items). Live scanning was even able to be done during class. I was able to leave the class and immediately put my documents in the mail for the multi-state application, and immediately upload my info into the OCSD portal for the CA-CCW. Even after the class, Orville ALWAYS answered his phone and helped with questions/revisions via email. I cannot recommend this class enough. SAFE, ORGANIZED, AND CLEAN are words I would use to describe both his class instruction and live fire classes. I had my Utah and Arizona CCW's in less than 2 months from taking his class. Now I'm on my California CCW and he takes time out of his day to help me write my good cause statement. In other words he follows up and helps you ALL the way through the process. I found this course as I was at the OC Indoor Range at Brea, CA. For those looking to get their CCW at Orange County, you're going to need to attend a class. The class taught by Orville well prepares you for the CCW process. I have no other CCW courses to compare this class to, but I do believe I received great value for what I paid. Thanks to Orville, you will be extremely well prepared for the application and interview process with the OC Sheriff. I like how Orville and his wife provided everything on site which is necessary to apply for the CCW. They do the photos, the LiveScan, photocopies, help filling out the application, and thorough and complete instructions on the entire process. They do it all in the office so that you don't need to go elsewhere for any of those items. Very efficient. Comfortable chairs for the participants are in the room with a large table for writing and taking notes during class. There are pens and hi liters and paper and notes and books which are provided. The class is taught at a pace which is not too slow for those who may be advanced and not too fast for those who may be early on in the gun handling/training process. I enjoyed how the course stressed certain aspects that will be important to remember as you're preparing to carry your CCW permit. I especially enjoyed how the class touched on some of the possible legal or social aspects of carrying a concealed weapon. The class is very hands on and Orville encouraged questions. Questions were addressed and answered politely and professionally. The second day with the live shooting at the range was very informative. I would usually feel a little unsafe standing next to someone with live ammunition in a line, but Orville seemed to have complete control of the range during the live fire session and provided clear and concise instructions. Orville, thank you for your time and professionalism. At first I thought I was just applying for a CCW just for something to have to be able to better protect or defend myself in case of an assault. But Orville also teaches that a gun should be used as a last resort. I hope that all of the rest of the instructors who teach the CCW class in Orange County is as caring and responsible and thorough as Orville. So if you are looking to apply for a CCW in Orange County, do not hesitate and give Orville a call. They will hold your hand and walk you through the complete process. They are responsive to emails and to phone calls which I always appreciate. Stop thinking about it and just make the call. If you pass the class, you'll leave with the certificate of completion that day. I believe everyone out there should be properly trained in the handling of firearms. I have taken CCW Courses in KY, OH, and CO. The information in this course was on par with others. The classroom setting and comfort level was above and beyond other courses I have taken. Orville really thought about the convenience and comfort of the students when designing his program. Chairs are very comfortable for learning and the # of students is just right. That is not the case at all CCW courses. Orville does a great job covering material and moving through quickly and efficiently. One thing that I was surprised with is the marksmanship test. This is not a beginners shooting test. You must be able to put 72 bullets in a 6" diameter from 3,7,and 10yrds. Make sure you have practiced and feel comfortable shooting your firearm.
