I attended Allsafe Defense System's Metallic Cartridge Reloading class on September 30th, 2023. This was my instructor certification class so it was important to get things right. My experience with T.J. Johnson has been over the past few years as I acquire the training to be the Best NRA Instructor I can be. I've taken multiple courses and drills. This is by far the better one if you're looking for a little more advanced drills and legal understanding of use of firearms. Peggy Grangetto provided a great foundation and referred me to TJs classes. And I can't be more grateful. TJ, and his team, ran us through the knowledge in the am. My wife and I were referred to TJ at AllSafe Defense System by my FFL, Phil at Kelmark of Southern California. First, I just want to say how much fun we both had! The instruction was, encouraging and direct. The class consisted of a wide variety of shooters from beginners like myself to more advanced shooters. The intermediate handgun class was perfect. The different drills and courses were great for a beginner looking to grow their skills, or even someone novice. This class literally provided all safe Defense methods that would be used in real life. Plus, I liked the class format with an audience watching while being timed just for a little stress test. If you have not attended CCW night training. You are will not be prepared for a violent encounter on the street. This a professionally run, super safe, range. The CCW class is engaging and friendly and really teaches you what you need to know. No one is made to feel out of place or unwelcome because they don't have the most experience. The staff will help with all direction. They are firm in their orders and rules to be followed but this serious business and I appreciated that part of it as it only takes one mistake. I incorrectly laid my weapon down with the ejection slide port facing down and was instructed on why you don't do that. I encourage all responsible gun owners to take a class here with this group. All the other reviews have already said, what I am going to say. It was a very thorough and technical class, discussing specifications, laws and some history. TJ and all the other instructors are all adept, watchful and most importantly fun! I felt safe and at ease and for the women, there were plenty of women instructors teaching as well. I had a wonderful experience and if I continue to pursue training, I will definitely use Allsafe again in the future. I'm fairly new to owning a firearm and my friend recommended that I take Michael Hernandez's class. Micheal is an instructor for TJ who owns Allsafe Defense. I did the CCW class as well as the shooting in dark settings class. Both were excellent. I do recommend if you're new to gun owning to definitely take a few of TJs beginning classes first. Both I took were excellent and never a dull moment. The time passed quickly. They take every precautions to make sure that safety is the number one priority. Also they spend the time necessary to go over all firearm laws and clearly explain how to avoid trouble in the first place but how to be prepared to use your firearm if it does become necessary to protect yourself or your family from injury or death. We just took the basic handgun course last week. We are 2 middle aged women who had no experience with handguns. TJ, Marty and all of the instructors are so knowledgeable, friendly and patient! The first hour is an informative, interactive classroom setting where they teach you gun safety, parts of the gun, your stance, eye domination and how to properly hold the handgun. In the shooting range portion, the instructors were very detailed and provided individual guidance and assistance as needed. Way beyond what we expected and we've been talking about it for days. We highly recommend this class to anyone with no experience who wants to learn how to properly and safely handle firearms. For those who already have experience, it is an excellent refresher course. I enrolled my husband and I for the AllSafe Basic Handgun course as his birthday gift. We both LOVED it and here's why: AllSafe Defense is very organized, thorough, fast pace, friendly and helpful. Our class had "newbies" like me, others who had a year of experience, and more. TJ and his instructors were kind, helpful and cautious. They focus on precision and speed. Not many places do that for beginners. I loved that safety was an absolute priority but so was having a good time. We covered a lot of info in the beginning of the course and as complete beginner, I was given specific feedback after every shooting exercise. It was great to try out different handguns to see which worked best for each student. I left confident, knowing what handguns I preferred and skills to work on. Personally, I was surprised at how tense I was shooting a 22 in the beginning. But by the end of the day, I was very at ease. The first time I signed up for a course life happened and I was unable to attend. I emailed Mr. TJ, and without hesitation I was rebooked and scheduled to attend the following month. The CCW/NRA Personal Protection Outside the Home Course is excellent. It's a great way to evaluate ones skills, identify strengths and weaknesses in a safe and controlled environment. Prior to taking this advanced course, I suggest taking other courses with Allsafe Defense Systems. I intend to take the courses again as a way to improve skills and be a safe marksman. After taking the CCW/NRA Personal Protection Outside the Home Course, I enrolled in the Advanced Handgun: Moving While Shooting Course. The Advance Handgun: Moving While Shooting Course is an excellent training course, but it's challenging and demanding. Prior to taking this course, it's a must to take the CCW/NRA Personal Protection Outside the Home Course to evaluate your skills. I plan to take this course again as a way to continue to build and maintain skills. On a scale of 1 to 10, I give the Allsafe Defense Systems Chief Instructor and the instructors on his staff a rating of 10. read more

What can I say. I make the drive from San Diego area to take classes from TJ. I have met other classmates who travel from long distances to take classes from TJ. He doesn't just lecture. He has and abundance of various classes including those who wish to become instructors as well. The classes are interactive and he connects with all students from beginner to advanced. TJ has been at this for quite a while and it shows. His subject knowledge and instructional technique in the classroom and on the range takes you from where you are encouraging you further. While he takes safety seriously, his style isn't militaristic. In addition, he teaches live fire classes I have yet to experience anywhere else for a price that is extremely reasonable. Let's face it. We ALL NEED experience and training...excellent training. As a retired citizen, I cannot afford to waste precious ammunition with little gain. I also cannot afford the expense of what most charge for classes of this caliber in other states of our nation. And to find these classes in California? This is my second review, meaning I am a returning customer. I enjoyed NRA Rifle Instructor trainings and came back for my NRA RSO. Subject wise I felt it may be a dry class but TJ's teaching techniques are outstanding and it went beyond my expectations. We had a range visit and the observation not only is complementary to the course but I believe it is a must to get the hands-on experience. As an NRA certified instructor (Pistol & Rifle), I freely admit that this is where I go for my training. It's important to seek out the highest level of training you can find, the One with more experience than you, perhaps even One that helped write the book. (literally) My only complaint, of course, is that he does NOT use flannel boards is his presentation- which is clearly included in the instructors handbook as an approved method of visual instruction.
