A few years back, I had spent a lot of money with the purchase of a few courses including the international inspectors course making it a complete sale, I guess almost 3,000 total or more, I still have all the books & courses, now that I'm actually adding the General Engineering course to my license, one of the 3, I had already purchased through contractors state license school, I figured I'd go back to my home base, start over, probably spend more money to get going again. To my surprise, yes they looked me up, because I was expired" time passed "" I asked for the certificate of experience, right of the top, absolutely not, that would cost you a additional 395, I didn't have the money, now starting to feel uncomfortable & the air turned still & now stagnant. & individual turned cold, wouldn't even compromise or barter, I felt unwelcome & tried to find the nearest out however I could. Not the place I wanted to be, felt like a hard sales car showrooms office. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone, everything I asked for they wanted to sell me for 395.00 + the 230.00 for the state test. Guys it's not hard, it's real simple, paperwork I did for free, paying the 230 state test. Now I'm scheduled for my test in 3 weeks. The instructions were simple and straightforward, and he delivered a message which resonated with me: "If you're going to do it, do it right". Paying for a service, that can result into generational wealth, can be pricey; however, a peace of mind in the process is worth my payments. He made it clear to me that he did not want money to be an issue because it can deter people from having a smooth transition from beginning to end. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS SCHOOL AT ALL I cannot explain the frustration this school has made me feel. To being with My dad was the one initially trying to get his license he is a Spanish speaker and MARIO SANTANA from the orange location sold him on it that it would be super easy to get his license, that he would have access to the staff for help in anything he needed and that they would help him setting up his corporation , Mario right away send the enrollment agreement that totaled $2745 for the classes, Spanish classes, and the all inclusive corporation package. They are so fast in getting the payment but when we need assistance they don't respond back. My dad started the process and when he would need help he would go into the office for assistance and they would tell him that he needed to send them a email. Like why they are right in front of him and they can help him??? It makes no sense. My dad then proceeded to send the email and they would take days if not weeks to respond to him. After about 7 months that the process seems to not move at all and not hearing back from them, my dad gave up. In that time I became of age so i decided to step in and be the one doing the process, we went back into the office to ask if there was a possibility to to a transfer to me, they said that yes but there was a fee of $600, at this point we said that it was okay as long as we didn't lose the whole money my dad had already invested in it. So we did the transfer. Like I said Mario is really fast with taking the money but not much when it comes to respond. It took Mario TWO MONTHS to do the enrollment, I finish the application, got my fingers scans, and CSLB had contacted me to take the exam but I hadn't even got the classes or access to the online practice questions. I feel frustrated because I feel they are not helping at all after all the money we had payed I don't know if its because Im a women that Mario doesn't seem to take me seriously. I have had help of Haydee with the process of the application and she told me she was having issues with the enrollment and she told me to give her 2 days that she was going to try to solve it in order to give me the access and my classes. She said she had been contacting Mario and his managers in order to resolve this issue but it was taking forever, I tried to contact Mario I send him a message and a couple days passed by and nothing from him until finally I was decided and I called once again, It took me 9 CALLS in order to hear back from him. Really 9 calls to respond?. Once I got in a call with Mario, it took him 5 minutes to finish my enrollment. I waited 2 MONTHS for something he could've done in 5 minutes. I studied the exam prep material, took the practice tests, and passed both trade and law/business exams on my first attempt. I tried giving zero stars. I used the school to help walk me through the process of obtaining my General B license... If you enjoy being taken advantage of... then by ALL means sign on up. I have placed some notes below on my experience. -Like most sales - the process starts off on a positive note. Once the services / answers are needed - you are constantly reminded "that you are NOT the only student" and are better of just doing whatever you needed them to do yourself. -They sign you up with online test questions to study - then shut off access to the tests once you test date is set by CSLB. They demand ANOTHER sign up fee to continue using the online test. They blame CSLB's time frame - even though they are the specialist and know how long the license process takes with the state (that the whole idea of using the service in the first place) -They will promise to call you back/hang up on you, and get frustrated because you hold them accountable for NOT calling you back in the first place. -I was transferred to multiple representatives and they all performed horribly. -The Managers -- if I was actually transferred to a Manager just support the staffs horrible work ethics and will demand more money too. -In all - I WOULDN'T RECOMMEND USING THIS SCHOOL! They lied to me and took my money knowing the state wouldn't accept my application EVEN THOUGH I HAD 4 years experience and had it signed they didn't count the year I was under 18. MARIO KNEW THAT BUT STILL TOOK MY MONEY AND THE STATE DECLINED MY APPLICATION so I had to wait another year. Mario brainwashed me and sold me a lot of unnecessary CDs and programs I didn't even need. Paying a total of 2,700 dollars. The answers they gave me to study I have proof they were incorrect and I failed my exams 2 times it took me three times to pass. And it's been 2 months I still have not received a refund for paying for the re take fees like they promised! They don't reply to my emails and Jillian is very unprofessional she doesn't reply to me because they got there money already. GO TO ANOTHER SCHOOL OR DO YOUR RESEARCH. I highly recommend using this school and asking if you can work with Miguel. They made it as smooth as possible with no hiccups. I passed my test first try thanks to their training course, material, and practice tests they provided. If the virus hadn't shut things down, I'm sure I would have had my license much sooner. They even gave me an extension on my practice materials due to the virus. This school is whatever, I am disappointed with my experience with them and would not recommend them to anyone. I did pass my exam 1st try, the instructors were pretty good. But my biggest issue was the staff. I paid extra for the school to help me with application... well, since I had no knowledge on what to put on the application and the person filling it out for was offering no guidance.... I get to deal with getting a new license number and pay an extra $200 (thanks CSLS). The people who work for the school are also pretty bad at returning calls as well and have an attitude as if we owe them something for being there. Oh yes and be prepared for your email to get blown up with advertising from the school for more classes. So if you're thinking about getting your license I would recommend looking around at other schools. Best of luck on your exam. read more

5 starts for Mario due to his helpfulness and prompt response.. ZERO For the registration process. The appointments are sooo stretched out. We already paid in full.. since 3/20 .. had to schedule a 2nd appointment two weeks apart (more or less) that took 5 min.. got the required form signed as soon as we could.. called a week later (a bit less) thought we had a set appt for a week later.. but didn't see that my time was taken.. NOW.. we have to wait another 2 weeks for an appointment 5/9 just to complete the other part of the registration process.. Gotta say.. so far it's very disappointing.. we were left with the impression that the process was fast to get you started with the classes.. the plan was that the test would be sched by June.. at this rate... the test would be by August.. !!! I'll be honest and say when I first signed up and received all the materials involved (i.e books, cds, class schedule, etc.), it was definitely overwhelming and just a bit intimidating. But the staff the CSLC Katella location have been amazing. In particular Haydee Ramirez, student administrator. Haydee is simply amazing in her knowledge of the license process, her calm demeanor helps you relax and her encouraging words are all attributes of what someone in that position needs. I've had three different instructors for my classes and although their demeanors are different in how they conduct class, they all have the same goal in mind and that's seeing that everyone sitting in those classes pass their exams the first time around. They take their time to answer questions and you don't feel like just another class attendee. Excellent job from start to finish. Alex was always available and willing to help. Walked me through each stage, finding me alternative sites for 2 of the 4 law classes, when my schedule did not allow me to attend locally, to rescheduling my exam date when the original date was a conflict. He had all the answers to everyone of my questions. The crash courses were very helpful and I passed both the law and trade exams on the first attempt. Wish I was able to give it no stars , let me start off with this whole school was a total rip off and they encourage you to pay the 1200 dollars for there c class school and book. The lecture part of that fee has nothing to do with your specific trade and the business and law part of the class is so basic with nothing that you'd really encounter in the state test . Another issue is there books are so out dated and they charge 300 dollars for books that are out dated as far back from the late 90's . Wish I would've never got suckered into this class , there goes 1200 down the drain with no true help from the school that they promise you will pass . Don't make the same mistake I did read more

The staff at CSLS went the extra mile to help me through the process; I was definitely a "high-maintenance" customer but Maria was gracious and patient, quick to respond to emails and phone calls - she was helpful each step of the way. Gabriel has been very helpfull throughout the entire set-up of my Corporation and has worked diligently with the VA to help pay for classes. Prices for each class is $$. Not super cheap, but well worth the cost. I would like to see longer in-class sessions for classes A-D when preparing for the Contractor's License. This school has gone downhill the last couple years. I got my license here 5 years ago . It was good everything went well . I got the c-54 license then the c-15 license . Last year I applied to get the general b license and that's when it went down hill . They don't follow up with you in regards to your application. Purchased the home study binder which came with two CD's (business law), the online study test questions for both law and trade (C33), and a 16 hour crash course (two days of class). CSLS was priced fairly as compared to other schools out there. I had absolutely no problem passing the law and trade tests (passed first time!). I think the online test questions and the CD's were most beneficial and then you could use the book to reference just about all the questions on the online practice exams. The Contractors State License School online tests are harder than the actual CSLB test, so if you pass with 85% or better with the online tests-you will have no problems on your actual test date! All staff are friendly and very willing to answer any questions you have. Instructor Rick was very professional when teaching class and made sure everyone understood the topic at hand. The study material that was given was good (especially the law material), classes were good, really liked the weekend crash course before the test. The reason why I am not giving 5 stars is because the study material had typos and it gets confusing when you are trying to study. I visited this school twice for my weekend crash courses. Mike Hargrove was my instructor both times and his classes were informative and very helpful. He offered his email to use in case I ever had any questions outside of class, and I've taken him up on his offer. I attended the Ventura school for my regular courses and passed my exam this past Monday. It's well worth the tuition and would do it again. Your tuition covers almost 20 different online practice tests that mimic the state's exam. I practiced those repeatedly for over a week. I ended up answering 7,500 questions and scored over 90%, something I never thought I would do on the first day of classes. So on the day of my state exam, their two tests (one on your trade and another on construction business and law) seemed to fly by. Those 215 questions came and went so quickly. Try this school out. It helped me achieve my goal of becoming a licensed general contractor. read more

Attending this program helped me to pass the contractors test on the first try. The classes helped a great deal as they are very informative. The application process to qualify for the test was grueling. However, Alex stuck with me and provided step by step procedures to get through it. I would advise all applicants to enroll.
