I received the diagnosis and treatment recap more than an hour ago, and paid a half hour ago, so not sure why the lengthy delay on a Saturday. Price was expected around $530 for the visit. They want me to come back to get the stitch removed, but I'll take him to my regular vet for that. They said there was a chance they'd have to sedate him for the suture and wanted me to sign a release. I said no, as it seemed like a money grab to me.

I had been to Complete Veterinary Care many years prior for an emergency visit under another vet (Dr. Vorhies) with a different cat. However, it seems the practice changed vets, so I researched Dr. Anacker and he came highly recommended. Dr. Anacker is calm and level-headed. He took me on as a new patient within a couple of days even though he was booked solid for two weeks. He also saw me every 7 to 10 days for several months to give antibiotic shots to my sick cat (and discuss other methods of treatment) even though we both knew my cat Stephen was never going to get well. He always listened carefully and never rushed me out the door. Several times he squeezed me in on the day I called even though he was booked solid. The office always responded in a timely manner and was very cordial. I was also able to provide updates via email. I am so thankful to him. He enabled me to have a few more months with my precious Stephen. I would definitely go back to him again without hesitation.

My cat needs dental surgery with a specialist, and after going through the necessary steps--including getting a heart scan from an outside provider--the receptionist quoted me $3,500 to $5,500. Given the high cost, I expected a basic level of respect and accommodation. As someone who is immunocompromised, I asked if the vet could wear a mask during our initial appointment. We are still in an active pandemic with a new wave underway--thousands of people are dying or becoming disabled from long COVID each week. I even offered to provide sealed, medical-grade masks at no cost to them. The receptionist was incredibly rude and immediately shut me down, saying, "We don't do that," before briskly putting me on hold to get rid of me. When she came back, she tried to gaslight me by citing outdated CDC guidance, insisting no one there would wear a mask under any circumstances. That stance is not only ignorant--it's dangerous. Roughly 40% of COVID cases are asymptomatic and still contagious. The idea that only people with symptoms should stay home is a fantasy and a public health failure. What's more, numerous peer-reviewed studies confirm that pets can contract COVID-19 from humans. This clinic clearly does not care about preventing the spread of airborne illness to humans or animals. The fact that they were smug about it is disgusting. If you're considering surgery or serious care for your pet, think long and hard about whether you want to support a practice that disregards basic science and treats disabled people with such hostility.
