We couldn't be happier with the latest member of our family, Gemma. The staff at EHR were very helpful and extremely nice. We have been adopting pets for many years. We prefer to only take in rescues. We had thought we would not add anymore after one of our pack recently passed on. Well our other dog seemed lonely so we decided for another. We applied to many shelters to no avail and the process at many seemed ridiculous and what felt like over kill and over interrogating. Anyway this is the 6 dog we have rescued over the years and now the newest member of the pack and we couldn't be more grateful and happy. Thanks to Eleventh Hour for assisting us in acquiring another family member that fit right in.

From the start EHR was prompt with our application and reference checks and our communication via email was efficient. We adopted a 1-year-old which we found on your website. Thank you so much. You have made our family complete with our beautiful and gentle Matilda! She was well taken care of, and all her papers were in order. Great value too. We bought a crate and a collar which was very helpful. All your volunteer staff were so nice and helpful! I referred you to our neighbor who just lost their dog, and I am sure you will make them happy too!

I had a great experience with this rescue and would highly recommend them. I saw a dog I fell in love with on Petfinder and filled out the application. I was approved within days but was disappointed to hear that the dog I chose would not be a good fit for my family. I was going to look elsewhere until I realized how much they must care about their dogs and their adopters that they won't let you adopt a dog if they don't think its a great match. I spent more time researching their available animals and chose another dog-this one was in foster care. The foster drove over an hour to my house and spent hours making sure the new pup got along with my current dogs. The vet care and contract was reviewed in detail, they give you all their contact information and they encourage you keep them updated. Turns out he was the best match for our family and we couldn't be happier!!

After adopting rescue dogs for over 40 years, I didn't think getting another would be difficult. Our beloved dog passed 3 days after the new year and my 15 year old chihuahua was lonely. I applied to at least 5 rescues/animal shelters with No Replies. I came across Eleventh Hour Rescue on social media and applied for a dog. They processed and approved my application quickly but the dog we wanted wasn't yet available. My daughter and I decided to bring my chihuahua to one of their Saturday adoption events to meet some dogs. We weren't sure what type of dog would be a good match so it was a perfect way to test different dog energies. My chihuahua didn't hit it off with any available dogs but we were told they would keep us in mind for others that weren't at the event. All of the staff and volunteers are wonderful! They understand not all animals are a good match for your family but that doesn't mean you are not worthy of adoption. Paul, the dog trainer/behaviorist and Vanessa worked with us to find the perfect dog. It took about 2 weeks from applying to the meet and greet and we came home with the most PERFECT dog. We are all so in love with her and could not be happier! This rescue works hard to place their animals. They understand their behaviors and are transparent about issues or concerns so you can make the right choice for your family. We adopted Little Momma now known as Gemma. We are happy to be connected to EHR and recommend this rescue organization highly!

I can't say enough about this rescue!! Amazing staff and volunteers - especially Dana Rasp who took such good care of my Allie and was patient to wait til we found each other. I also have 2 other EHR rescues, Cooper and Luna. If I could, I'd take them all and they would all come from EHR! Fantastic organization!

Recently adopted a beautiful 6 year old cat. After I put in my application for adoption, it took about 5 days to get approved. I was so happy the gorgeous girl I had hoped to adopt would still be available and she was. We are giving her the time and space to get her to know her new home. read more

A couple of years ago, we lost the first of two sibling rescue dogs we adopted 15 years ago. We adopted another young dog shortly after. Then March of this year, our 2nd boy passed over the Rainbow Bridge. Recently we decided we missed having two canine family members and set out to begin the search for a friend for our dog Daisy (also a rescue) and I knew about Eleventh Hour Rescue and the work they do for a while and had attended events like Puptoberfest. When we saw there was a Winter market happening at the Sussex fairgrounds, we got our pre-appoved application completed and attended the event with Daisy hoping to meet a particular dog. When it turned out the beautiful girl in question wouldn't be quite the right fit for our family, we came close to leaving and determined to search through other adoptable dogs with 11th Hour when we were asked if Daisy wanted to meet Jett, who we'd missed. We did an introduction and short walk together with one of the volunteers and our family. It became quickly apparent that these two would become fast friends and he was super friendly immediately with our whole family. Jett came home with us that day and immediately seemed to feel right at home. But he wasn't answering to his name, so we bounced a bunch around and thought we'd have to use a process to change it, but we came up with Remmington III (Remmy casually) and he began answering to that almost immediately. We are on day 3 and we all couldn't be happier. Everyone who volunteers with Eleventh Hour from the pre-approval process to the event staff were so welcoming, encouraging and wonderful. They do a fantastic job of vetting potential adopters so that each animal finds their perfect furever home. I would recommend anyone searching for a furry family member to consider them. read more

We adopted a 3-year-old pup from an adoption event Eleventh Hour hosted at the Rockaway Mall, and it was a great experience. The event was well organized with plenty of helpful volunteers on site and lots of friendly, adorable dogs to meet. Our check-in/check-out process was smooth and professional, and we were paired with a volunteer who helped us meet the three dogs we were interested in so we could find the best fit. I also really appreciate how thorough they were during the application process: they called all my references and my current vet, which showed how serious they are and how much they care about their animals. Wonderful rescue organization...Thank you for helping us find our new family member! read more

As a second time adopter from Eleventh Hour Rescue, I can't say enough good things about the volunteers and the amazing work they do. It was easy to see that each dog I adopted, one 13 years ago and one days ago, was so well cared for, physically and emotionally. Every volunteer I've encountered has been so kind and capable. It's downright heartwarming to see how much they put into their good work. The adoption process was very smooth and the rescue was very responsive. It was nice to see that they took the time to speak at length with my references. I was provided with detailed information about each dog I adopted. They even follow up post adoption to see how their dogs are doing. They so obviousy care and seem to thrive on the satisfaction of giving each precious life in their charge their best chance at living their best life. read more

Applied for a cat and got a terrible run around! I have been emailing them every day to get status is my application. No one responds. BUT I had to email ALL my vaccine records for every animal I have. Contacted my vets, friends and family. Not even the common courtesy to answer me. No wonder why there are so many cat euthanasias! If this is what you have to go through to adopt a cat, most people would give up. SHAMEFUL!!! read more

I have nothing but good things to say about Eleventh Hour Rescue. Everyone was so pleasant and responsive. The Roxbury location, where I first met my pup was very clean, and all the dogs were in such good spirits. They even had volunteers reading to them! We adopted two wonderful sister dogs from Eleventh Hour and everything about the adoption process was FANTASTIC. The staff was caring and kind and even arranged for us to meet and adopt the dogs on the day after Christmas a few years ago. Our dogs came to us in great shape, despite making the journey from Georgia/South Carolina area to New Jersey and then on to our home in CT. I can't say enough good things about the team at EHR and their mission to do their work until all the cages are empty. This is a volunteer run organization, meaning that their team is committed to their work and saving as many animals as they can. Thank you for connecting us to Zephyr and Chinook! read more

They were prompt to approve my application and schedule a meet and greet so that my current dog could meet him and we could ensure it was a good match! I was nervous and the volunteers were patient and accommodating. After making the decision to proceed with adoption they provided me with extensive paperwork and records on my puppy So that my vet's office had everything they needed to continue taking excellent care of him! It is so clear that the Eleventh Hour team is completely and tirelessly devoted to the animals they rescue. I went through the adoption process twice; once with my friend, and then again for myself. The comprehensive adoption application, the interviews, and the scheduled Meet and Greets all ensure the best possible match for both the pet and the pet parent. Anne of Eleventh Hour promised me that she would find the dog best suited to my particular circumstances, and she came through for me; we took home Jake (previously known as Onyx) this past Saturday after he arrived at the Eleventh Hour facility from a shelter in Texas. My husband and I are completely taken with this sweet, loyal, beautiful boy; he is magnificent! Sending a heartfelt thank you to Anne and all the devoted volunteers at Eleventh Hour for the positive and powerful impact they have on the lives of pets in need. read more

We had a really great experience with 11th Hour Rescue. We filled out an application online and indicated the types of dogs we were interested in. The following morning, they had already started calling our references and our vet. We were approved within 24 hours of filling out the application, which was very thorough and detailed. We inquired about a few specific dogs that were list on their website and they helped us find one that was a perfect match. We set up an appointment to meet the puppy. They were punctual, answered all of our questions, and extremely efficient with the paperwork. This is our second time adopting from 11th Hour Rescue and we wouldn't hesitate to go back. read more

Great organization that really does the best for the animals in their care. The kennel volunteers and staff, especially, are top notch and go above and beyond for the dogs who are living at their facility. All animals are up to date on age appropriate vaccines, fixed, microchipped, and completely vetted. I would highly recommend getting a new furry friend from this rescue. read more

We adopted our dog through EHR after my parents adopted several of their dogs over the years through this organization. I've been aware of them for probably 20 years and they've expanded operations quite a bit over time, they have a good reputation. The volunteers were very responsive to our initial email questions and once we submitted our adoption application, our references were contacted right away. I understand they work with sister organizations in various areas of the country to bring dogs to NJ to give them a better chance of adoption. Our dog was found as a stray in Texas and was fostered by a volunteer there for several months before coming to us, and he was clearly treated well. They take dog placement very seriously because they want to ensure good matches, and are honest about any behavioral or health issues that they are aware of. Adoption day was a bit more intense than we anticipated. It was a very busy day and lots of animals had arrived at the adoption center from across the country just the previous night, so the dogs were a little stressed and vocal, but that is understandable. Plus, all the potential adopters of course had all of their own dogs and kids with them to meet their potential new house mates. The volunteers and staff did a good job managing a rather chaotic scene and they made sure that everyone had plenty of time to meet the dog they hoped to adopt alone in a fenced off play area, and answered any questions to the best of their knowledge (with the understanding that they are providing all information available to them and the dog is given a basic vet check, but they obviously cannot make any health or behavioral guarantees for any animal). They offered private time for adopters to discuss any concerns amongst themselves and make their final decision. Once we decided we wanted to take our dog home, other volunteers sat with us and went through all the adoption paperwork in detail. They require a commitment that if things don't work out with the animal, it be brought back to EHR and not adopted out to someone else privately, for obvious reasons. Our dog has been a happy addition to our family. read more

I adopted my cat, Jake, from 11th hour in 2019. The application took a total of 10 minutes and was super reasonable in my opinion. I was on the edge of my seat for about a week until I got the good news and picked him up from the Kearny PetSmart. This is where I met Ella! Absolutely crazy woman but she's amazing, she truly cares and I appreciate the authenticity. It was a struggle getting Jake in the carrier but we managed and in a month Jake loved his sisters and felt at home. 2 years later- mid pandemic- I got diagnosed with an auto immune disorder and got really depressed. I decided a dog was what I needed and I was ready for the lifelong commitment and expenses. The application was a little harder than the cat application but I was getting a Dane mix puppy so it makes sense. Within the 5 days of waiting I spent over $400 in PetSmart and Amazon getting my home ready for my large baby I got the exciting news and met with her the very next day! Not even an hour after meeting her, my bf and i took her home. I've gotten my friends and my mom to adopt from them too. I've stayed in contact with Chantelle and regularly rescue litters of kittens for them. She always finds me a foster last minute and they really care about their animals. Not everyone gets accepted to adopt from there because not everyone is fit for animals. read more

Something strange with this place, be careful. Friends who have rescued a couple of dogs from this place over many years were Denied recently (with no explanation!) after I gave their I assume volunteer a stellar reference for them. I understand they never even contacted the other reference my friends gave. I had no idea my friends since the 1980's were going to adopt another dog after their beloved Shepherd mix passed at an old age, they were so heartbroken, but when I heard they were intending to do so (my first inkling was the 11th hour interview) I was so happy for them. But now I wonder _What In The World_ is with this 'shelter' when, *IF* they actually have animals to place they deny (with NO explanation) someone they have actually trusted in the past. As I said something ODD about these folk. I have myself at times financially supported no-kill animal shelters but I don't think I would give this place a dime.. read more

11-16-24 Saturday-My partner and I are gay. I believe this rescue treated us this way because they discriminated against us. This is the letter I sent today to the Better Business Bureau about Alex Galdi, Kennel manager who herself belongs in the kennel permanently. Passive aggressive and the entire rescue I suspect is filled to the brim with unprofessional people who are not being held accountable as to how they treat the public. "The week of 11/15/24 My partner contacted 11th Hour Animal Rescue to have our dog, Comer, (surrendered back to them as we had gotten her from that No-Kill shelter in April 2019. Thru numerous emails with Kennel Manager, Alex Galdi, I had no time in making the requested scans she said she needed to take the dog back. My partner then decided to do the scanning and sent requested pictures and all the dog info from Harmony Animal Hospital in Phillipsburg, NJ who is our VET for the dog info. After doing all that they send my partner the Surrender/Return paperwork which she signed and then returned to Alex. During this time, I had already asked Alex for a letter on 11th Hour Letterhead telling our municipality Animal Control and Licensing Administration that we no longer have the dog in our possession. Alex said she would send the letter by email. She even wrote that to my partner on Friday 11/15/24. Never happened. She picked up Comer and a ton of donations worth over $1000 and I asked for the letter again - Alex told me she would email it and left. Still no letter. Then my partner did not get it that day she wrote to her and asked her to send it. Alex promised. NO LETTER. I called and told them if I did not get the letter I will contact a lawyer, then wrote to the President Kelly Miller asking for the letter. I finally got the letter on Saturday afternoon-11/15/24 no address and 1 line. These people are unprofessional, and no one is holding them accountable. When they took Comer, I thought they would take her to see a VET for her stomach tumors and to get her nails clipped because we could not afford to do so. I looked at 11th Hour's site only to see Comer posted with none of the pictures I was told to send them. Some of the pictures I believe are fake. All the info on their site about Comer's info is wrong and the pictures they forced me to send are not being used. I have no idea why I was asked to send them and in 2019 I believe they lied to us then about the dog." Desired settlement: I want this complaint to stay on your books for however many years so there is some accountability about this Rescue. They are not in this 5013c for the good of animals-it's for the $$$.; No settlement requested - for BBB information only read more

My family and I wanted to adopt a puppy for a family dog. My husband and I have three children, youngest being three. We filled out an application and it was approved right away. I asked them if we had to bring the children since it was a 2 hour drive for us; they said yes everyone in the home had to meet the dog - a requirement for this rescue. We all hopped in the car for a meet and greet. We fell in love with the puppy we applied for. The rescue team sat down with us and asked questions and went over their requirements. They are VERY thorough and take time and thought into who they adopt their dogs out. They definitely do not just give them to anyone who applies. They have a process and it works. I had no problem following their requirements to get the dog out family wanted. They are a GREAT rescue. Every volunteer was amazing with the pets and the people looking to adopt. If we are ever in the market for another dog, we will only go through this amazing rescue who show how much they care about their animals. read more

I saw Charlie's picture on Facebook and it was love at first sight. 'Honey, can we adopt a three-legged cat?' She said yes. Charlie was literally saved by Eleventh Hour Rescue. His mangled leg would have been a death sentence if not for them. And then we would not have had the joy of knowing this incredible cat that beats you up the stairs and then falls asleep in your lap. We applied for adoption in this rescue house and our application was APPROVED, we were excited and we went to talk about the dogs that were available. The person at reception was very nice with white folks, as soon that lady looked at us, her behavior changed. She asked us to send an email about the dog we were interested in. We sent that email and the answer to that email was "that our application was rejected". Now this application was already approved, but as soon as she saw our face, the application got rejected. My wife is active military for 13 years, and she is an E6 SGT. I am also working in Government. It's really sad that they can get away with outright on your face racism. I understand that this animal rescue is trying to be groundbreaking in their discretion of whom they choose to be pet owners in Northern, NJ. However, there comes a time when enough is enough. I read all of the prior reviews, but I disregarded that, and pursued a pet myself through this organization. I work a few doors down from the Saturday pet rescue location and passed by and found "my dog". This was THE DOG for my family. I wanted that dog and only that dog. He looked at me, I looked at him...and I was desperate to bring him home to my 4.5 acres, on a river, with my 2 kids and elderly aunt. I was going to make this dog's dream come true. For my family also, we have an elderly dog (who we've had since he was a puppy) and he's lost steam. He can't handle the walk to the river anymore... We got him as a puppy when his predecessor couldn't make it anymore. We have a wagon on the back of a tractor to bring old dogs down to the field, but I wanted to bring a dog home who could enjoy life here. I filled out the application and was approved. I received an email that I would hear from them within 48 hours. Well...it's Spring Break and my kids are home and I'm home, plus bonus days this week, so let's rock and roll! Let's get this dog and let him have some fun with us! I live on the Paulinskill Trail so he can come with me for miles and miles of flat trail walks. I was APPROVED! (Look at the other reviewers who couldn't get past that step). So my urgency was on so that we could give this dog a new life. I emailed the person who was the sender of the "approval" email. I put pressure on to get the ball rolling. I stopped at the 11th Hour Rescue next to my job because there were people in there. I responded to the first message I got asking "When would you like to schedule the meet and greet?" Wednesday morning! (I was approved on Tuesday). Let's rock and roll! I want my dog!!! Let's go! He wants me, I want him... I have never selected a bad dog for my family in 23 years... 23 years...2 AMAZING family pets. I'm not an asshole. I know my dog when I see it. I got a call on Wednesday at 11 am. I was told that I was sent an email at 4:30am about scheduling a "meet and greet" plus a cat test (if I would volunteer my cat). I NEVER GOT AN EMAIL. But okay... I tried to throw this together. The requisite whole family "meet and greet". 1) Cat carrier and cat who would hate to be the test subject...but she's bad ass CHECK 2) Elderly dog who doesn't like cars but can be made to do anything (for the dog check) CHECK 3) 2 teenage sons (want a dog and will do whatever it takes to bring home another fun pet...plus they understand that ultimately, this would be my dog when they went off to school) CHECK 4) 75 year old Aunt who does my childcare. It's Spring Break, which is why we are all home this week. She went to Virginia to spend the week with my elderly aunt and uncle (her brother) because she deserves to do so! "Meet and Greet" canceled. Meet and Greet Canceled! This because my 75 year old aunt was away this week! Thus... This dog that I was desperate to bring home to a happy, healthy, pet loving home was destined to spend another week in a kennel. I'm furious. I don't want to take this out on a homeless dog. I'm here. He's my boy. If he get's adopted amidst bureaucracy, that's fine. In closing... I had my heart set on this dog. This was THE ONE. I was told, when I couldn't pull the "meet and greet" together, that I should "be in touch WHEN" I could get the menagerie together for a minivan ride down to meet the dog. This shit is crazy. This organization does not want to find good homes for animals. They are the Pet Nazis (like Soup Nazis). People want pets! I WANT THIS FUCKING DOG! How much do people have to assert their want and desire to adopt a pet that compels your organization to MOVE TOWARD ADOPTION? Let's ROLL! I'm missing a 75 year old woman from my "meet and greet" who went to Virginia this week to visit her 78 year old brother. Can we just get a dog already? Like... Really? She's the lady with broken up dog bones in her pocket. REALLY? read more

I have a pit mix needing to be re-homed. After sending the surrender form and being told the dog would need to pass a temperament test and should have no problems based on my information, I get told they heard from another source my dog is not good with other dogs and they can't help me. The dog lives with two other dogs currently but my place is not big enough to keep him. Still waiting to hear if they will tell me who gave them this false information. Highly doubtful thoough. Based on other reviews, it's basically a form letter and they go silent. Sad because our oldest dog was adopted through them. read more

I promise you... Most applications will get rejected for unknown reasons. I had found an adorable young dog I was interested in meeting. I reviewed the Eleventh Hour Rescue website and thought it was great. They seem genuine, compassionate, and a serious adoption agency. After submitting an inquiry to the main office email, they requested I complete their application. I had no problem dedicating over an hour to the application, contacting three references and my vet to prepare for the application. As I said, I just wanted to see if the dog was still available. After waiting for about 24 hours, I received a short automated message stating: applications@ehrdogs.org via rescuegroups.org Dear Applicant, Thank you for your interest in adopting one of our Eleventh Hour Rescue dogs. We work diligently to find the right forever home for each of our dogs. Based on our review of the information that has been compiled from your application, we do not feel we can approve your application to adopt one of our dogs. As stated on the application, Eleventh Hour Rescue reserves the right to refuse any potential applicant. In order to protect the confidentiality of our background checks and interview process, we regret that we will not be able to provide you with specific reasons for the denial of your application. We hope that you will understand and continue to support animal rescue groups and the work we do to ensure lasting homes for needy animals. Sincerely, Eleventh Hour Rescue ___________________ I feel disappointed and humiliated that I was not good enough to be provided an explanation or just that the dog you are interested in is no longer available. Of Course, from reading other negative experiences, I know I will not be receiving a reply, phone call, or any acknowledgment. For the lucky few who are fortunate enough to adopt a loving pet, I am happy about your positive experience and wish you the best with your new pet. As for those who are interested in applying, beware... There's an unrealistically high chance your application will be rejected for unknown reasons. My advice to the owners of Eleventh Hour Rescue... Reach out to your community and request volunteer hours before adopting if your short staffed and need help. It is obvious you have plenty of people interested in your work. Be honest with your prospective adopters. Do not use flaky language such as "In order to protect the confidentiality of our background checks and interview process, we regret that we will not be able to provide you with specific reasons for the denial of your application." You didn't even attempt to contact any of my references. This is highly concerning, especially since I do not see ethnic differences in people who are being approved and rejected... Do not make empty promises such as "If the dog you applied for is no longer available or not a good fit, we are happy to work with you to find a dog that best suits you and your lifestyle." You do not contact anyone if there rejected. Lastly, try to get to know the families interested in applying and inviting them to volunteer because every dog deserves a loving home. Reading people on paper is insensitive and judgemental. read more

The application process is time-consuming and they rejected our application without explanation. Asked a question about a dog being suitable for kids and just got a terse reply back. We're a pretty reasonable family of four with no pets and our home would be suitable. The experience here really served as a deterrent to wanting to get involved with the whole process. I am guessing a lot of people will get frustrated and end up buying dogs from stores instead as a result of this. read more

I was interested in a dog and Paul, their head "dog trainer" was assigned as my contact for this particular dog. We had a phone conversation about what I was looking for. Paul was rude, dismissive and insulting on the phone. I pursued the dog because I was hoping to rescue a dog and it was about the dog after all. When I arrived at 11th hour at the designated time I contacted Paul and he was again rude and dismissive. When I finally was able to have a meet and greet Paul was aggressive in his tone and behavior, chaotic in his delivery, and made the entire situation uncomfortable and stressful. Paul does not strike me as an animal person and completely ignored my needs on our phone conversation. Dog was totally unsuitable, aggressive and I would have never agreed to the meet up had Paul been honest about the dogs character. Then when it was clear it wasn't going to be a match Paul started to insult me and my dog that I had brought to meet the rescue. I will never recommend 11th Hour and subsequent to my experience I have now heard similar stories. read more

Eleventh Hour Rescue is a fully registered 501C(3) nonprofit, volunteer based organization dedicated to saving the lives of innocent dogs and cats on death row. Many of them are rescued at their Eleventh Hour--when they are scheduled to be put to death by other shelters that can no longer care for them. We give our dogs and cats all the medical attention they require, a place to live, and through our extensive adoption services, a second chance at a happy and fulfilled life. Eleventh Hour Rescue is not subsidized by government grants and receives no major corporate funding. We rely solely on the generosity of our volunteers, the community and animal lovers everywhere. The heart-wrenching stories we read and the numbers of those we can’t help are overwhelming. Every day we are haunted by the faces of those we can’t save. We cannot stop. We will not stop, until all of the cages are empty.

Eleventh Hour rescue hands down should get at least 100 stars! I can't imagine who could possibly rate them any less. We have adopted twice over the past 12 years and couldn't be more grateful for their hard work and dedication. They are devoted, kind, thorough, really ask the right questions and do the most fantastic job matching the animals they rescue with their forever homes. I was also impressed with the rescue Lonestar transports they work with from Texas. We adopted our sweet 4 month old pup Ginger around August and it was so clear to us that she was not only given some training by these 2 rescues but also a great amount of love. Her and her 5 other siblings were rescued from deplorable conditions and all traveled a long distance to find a better life and we are thankful for both EHR and Lonestar for giving this top notch care to them and us. We were also thankful to have the foster family on site at the visiting site to talk to us about care, what she had learned during the short time she cared for Ginger and also to say goodbye. Again, by far the best experience and our family will continue to recommend EHR to EVERYONE! Thank you EHR! read more

I adopted my dog Chloe and cat Ruby from EHR and I couldn't be happier with the entire experience. From start to finish, they demonstrated exceptional care, professionalism, and compassion. Their dedication to finding the right home for each animal is truly commendable. It is clear that the animals are well cared for, happy, and healthy. The team provided information about my dog's history, personality, and medical needs, ensuring I was well prepared to bring her home. I was particularly impressed by their thorough adoption process. It included a comprehensive application and a meet-and-greet session to ensure the safety and compatibility of the environment. This thoughtful approach reassured me that EHR is genuinely invested in the well-being of their animals. My fury family members have brought me so much joy and I owe it all to Eleventh Hour Rescue. If you're considering adopting a pet, I wholeheartedly recommend EHR for their exceptional service and dedication to animal rescue. Thank you Eleventh Hour Rescue for helping me find my perfect companions! read more

So since my review was taking down here i am again writing. I will continue to write my review every time it gets taking down. This recuse is the worst recuse I ever had to deal with for adopting a puppy/dog. The owner Lisa is a piece of crap and doesn't know how to speak to people. She talks to people as if she is better then everyone and talks as if people don't know how to raise animals. They tired to tell me I couldn't adopt a puppy because the puppy would be home 2-3 hr at a time alone and because of that the puppy wouldn't be socialized enough with people! That's some bs. I adopted a puppy who was only 1 month older then the one i was trying to adopt in Dec 2019. My pup who is 10 months old now LOVESSSSS people and other animals. She was also left home for 2-3 hrs at a time. This rescue needs to get their crap together. No wonder they have sooo many animals that need homes. If you want to adopt DON"T adopt from this recuse!! Save yourself the troubles and disappointment. read more

I filled out the application for a dog that I seen online. I was approved two days later for THAT dog. Since I work closely to an 11th hour, I went in to see what the next step would be only to be told that the dog had been adopted. How? When I had just received approval the morning before. There was no communication regarding the dog being adopted. Had I not gone to 11th hour and inquired I probably would have never known. I emailed 11th hour with my disappointment and was told that, 'They were sorry that I was disappointed but the application does say that other applicants 'may' be interested in the dog. No real apology for their terrible lack of communication. They make you jump through hoops, and then pretty much shit on you. How is this place still operational? Totally put a bad taste in my mouth when it comes to adopting. Its a shame because there are a lot of good people looking to adopt, but with places like this, the animals lose out. Will NEVER use them again. read more

I've adopted two pups from EHR, a boxer / pit mix we adopted nearly 11 years ago (who we just lost last summer to a ruptured tumor), and another we adopted last fall to fill his shoes. I can't say enough good things about EHR, from the fosters, to the kennel workers, they truly love these animals and really do an amazing job of making sure the match is the right one. For those who gave negative reviews, was it because you were denied? Yelp is full of people with no accountability. I feel like they vetted us as thoroughly as most, and I also was a returning pet owner. At no time did I feel like they were unprofessional, nor bullying or even overbearing. Our foster was awesome, all the paperwork was easy (you do have a vet that you've actually been to on a regular basis who can vouch for you, right?) and even the meet and greet with our existing dog went as smooth as can be. Also, don't forget these are volunteers people! read more

Adopted two great boys from 11th hour rescue: Grits 8/23/2023 and Rusty (aka-Bud April 11, 2024. Both boys saved my Yoda-bear's life after losing his two brothers. Each adoption was fantastic, and Robin, and Maureen have been with us every step of the way to assist with questions and numerous photos of the boys sent to them daily, weekly showing the beautiful family that they assisted with. We are so appreciative of the hard work these wonderful volunteer's do to save to save helpless animals that would otherwise be euthanize. They are kind, compassionated, and place the animal's the animal's well-being above people. they go above and beyond to rescue, save, and place these beautiful animals into caring loving homes. Thank you for these precious animals from GOD and please keep up the hard work to save all these beautiful animals. We again, want to than 11th hour rescue for our precious sons / family. I can't say enough good things about 11th Hour Rescue. A few months ago, my family adopted a dog from this wonderful organization, and she has been the perfect addition to our home. From the moment we walked in, we were impressed by how clean and well-maintained the facility was. The staff and volunteers were friendly, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about the animals in their care. The adoption process was smooth and straightforward, and we appreciated how easy it was to get all the information we needed. They took the time to make sure our new dog was a good fit for our family, and they couldn't have been more right--she fits right in and has brought so much joy to our lives. We're so grateful to 11th Hour Rescue for the incredible work they do giving homeless pets a second chance. I highly recommend them to anyone looking to adopt a pet or support a meaningful cause. read more

I cannot speak highly enough about Eleventh Hour Rescue. Their commitment to rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming animals is truly inspiring. From the moment we interacted with them, it was clear they prioritize the well-being of every animal in their care. The staff and volunteers are compassionate, knowledgeable, and always willing to answer questions. The facilities are clean, organized, and designed to provide the best environment for the animals. I recently adopted Dixon (renamed to Cooper), and the process was seamless. They provided thorough information about Cooper's temperament, and care needs, ensuring a great match. It's evident they take time to ensure every adoption is a success--for both the pet and the adopter. If you're looking to adopt, Eleventh Hour Rescue is the place to support. Their dedication to creating a better future for animals is unmatched! read more

We applied for a dog adoption and got their approval email. Initially we were treated by them like the perfect family to adopt a pet. We have a long history of adopted dogs and cats and we never gave up on any of them. We opened our house for them to inspect and check, showing all with nothing to hide. Last weekend we went to their adoption center at the Roxbury Mall and got interested in one dog. For all questions we had we got different answers from the staff. We left there with the commitment of bringing our dog for a meet and greet that day but when we arrived home there was another email stating that we were not fit to adopt a dog from them and reserving the right of not explaining why. We felt very offended and really wasted our time. I do not recommend this organization to anybody. read more

This was our first time adopting from Eleventh Hour Rescue, and we had such a wonderful experience! We completed our application and, within a day, they contacted our vet and references and we were approved. We had a meet and greet with our current dog and Ash that following Saturday in Roxbury -- and we were thrilled to be able to take our new pup home that same day! Everyone we met at Eleventh Hour was kind, helpful, and clearly passionate about what they do. Many of my friends have also adopted their pets from here, and now I understand why! Ash is the sweetest, cuddliest dog we've ever had and is doing so well with our family. We're so grateful to Eleventh Hour for helping us find our perfect match! read more

Eleventh Hour Rescue is a wonderful organization with a staff of truly caring individuals dedicated to animal rescue! We adopted our dog, Carmel, six months ago and from the start of our application process to the adoption, everything was handled professionally. They really took the time to make sure that our home was the perfect home for Carmel and that is the most important with rehoming dogs that have already experienced so much suffering! Highly recommend EHR as they are a committed rescue with amazing volunteers staying true to their mission statement of finding animals forever homes! read more

I have adopted three pets from Eleventh Hour Rescue (2 dogs and 1 cat) over the years, and they have been outstanding. They do a great job of following up on references before placing dogs and are very quick in responding compared to many other rescue groups. I also like the fact that many of the dogs have been in foster homes rather than just crates until they are adopted, which allows for a much better understanding of the dogs temperament and any challenges. This minimizes the risk of unpleasant surprises and maximizes the chance for a better match between pet and person. read more

I have been dealing with Eleventh Hour for almost 15 years! Unfortunately my girl Rosie that I adopted from them is no longer with us but she sill never be forgotten! I love that they ALWAYS did and still do check references, check temperaments and make sure the fit is as good for the adopter as well as the adoptee. All to be adopted are always well cared for & they do try to make sure that all are in foster homes if at all possible which I believe leads to less stress. The adoptable ALWAYS COMES 1ST . We had a great experience. We found our sweet girl, Zelda (originally Willow), and everything went smoothly. I'm not sure why the Yelp reviews are mixed, because that surprises me. It may not be the place itself, but some of the people trying to adopt, but I don't know for sure. Don't be discouraged about reaching out. This place is run by volunteers who truly love animals. Leave a voicemail or send an email, and be patient. We got to meet our princess by setting an appointment and took her home the same day because it was a great fit. read more

We adopted a dog from 11th hour rescue last weekend. The volunteer who helped us, Jeannie, couldn't have been more delightful. She allowed us to spend significant time with the dog before making a decision. She was extremely helpful in answering any questions. Since he's been home, Buster (fka Hanover Bailey) has been the perfect family pet. Well behaved and affectionate. Also got a clean bill of health from the vet. Thank you so much for such an easy and rewarding adoption process. read more

Full of deception, falsification of records, adopting out terminally ill or unsafe animals to unsuspecting people, adopting out animals too young to survive on their own, providing medication that would poison a cat and instructing that it be given to a 3 week old kitten. Lies ontop of lies to cover up lies, all encased in a tight seal of holier-than-thou unprofessionalism. They even went as far as to try and villainize PetSmart in the media for kicking them out. read more

Amazing shelter! My fiance and I adopted a 6 year old dog from them. He was a little tricky to work with and we had a few times where we wondered if we made the right call but the woman we adopted him through, Antonette, was so helpful! We have adopted dogs and a cat from this organization. On every occasion the volunteers and staff were great. They seem to all have one thing in common...they love the animals in their care. One of the dogs we adopted was in foster care when we adopted him and we knew so much about him before we brought him home (including he would clear the counter or get into the garbage) if left alone. Great organization...we would not adopt anywhere else read more

Our original choice was already scheduled for a meet and greet with another family but EHR sent us a picture of Lucy, similar in age and size to what we were looking for. Wholly unaccountable. There needs to be something put in place or some type of overwatch on these people. I'm sure there are those who really care in thia organization, but an utter lack of ethics cannot be ignored. I'd be interested in comparing the statistics of animals they have saved versus the number of animals that they have indirectly robbed of a chance at life. Disgusting businesses practices. read more
