Left side area of breezeway. Trim was caulked on one side
    K P.

Thursday June 10th 2021 11:20 I am a 66 year old retiree on a fixed income. I engaged Allied Siding and Windows to install windows and new Hardy Plank trim, facia and ventilated eaves on my home. The total bill came to over $10,000. I shrugged off all the cracked brick joints I found after they did the work and repaired them myself. I had to call the company back to have them finish painting the facia on the back of my garage which they did. I don't know how the crew supervisor missed that but they did along with other things as it turns out. A few years after the window installation some of the inert gas seals on the windows they installed leaked and the windows fogged. We called and their response was to tell us it would be an $80 charge just to come out to evaluate the problem. No thanks. We have since had three large picture windows installed by another vendor who has a lifetime guarantee and transferrable warranty. But to the problem at hand. In May 2021 during our heavy rains a large eight by five inch piece of perforated Hardy Plank eave board fell out and revealing it was rotted and that additional water damage had occurred to the wood support structure behind it. I was astonished as Hardy Plank has a guarantee of 30 years. I first contacted Allied Siding and Windows by email on 5/5/2021 I sent photos of and a description of the problem. Melissa Franklin was the contact person. She ensured me she forwarded the email to the warranty team. Nothing. Did not hear back until 6/10/2021 one month a five days later probably because of the pending company bankruptcy and I assume across the board staff reductions. I got a call from the president of the company Darryn Finn around 11:30 AM that day on the 10th. Probably because I mentioned in a second email to Melissa Franklin that I would seek alternative courses of action if I didn't hear back from Allied. No one was sent out to evaluate the problem and Mr. Finn immediately tried to avoid responsibility by saying it was caused by the Leaf Guard gutter installation which was installed immediately after the Hardy Plank fascia and vent eave panels were installed and painted. He informed me that the company, Allied Siding and Windows was in receivership (bankruptcy) as if that might strike a sympathetic chord in me. Wrong. I summed things up as I saw it: he wasn't going to stand behind his companies work. Nor the materials. With regard to the 30 year Hardy Plank warranty Mr. Finn said it was James Hardy and company's problem and not his. I guess the irony of his company failing and his adamant refusal to accept any responsibility for the work his company does was lost on him. I grant him that the work was done ten years ago. But I also pointed out that there were no other problems in other areas that were exactly the same but had been caulked but that the problem area had not been caulked. For the Hardy Plank to fail 20 years before the warranty was up was unacceptble. The conversation ended in a shouting match when I stated that I'd pay for the repairs myself and then I would do everything I could to see that others knew how he conducted business via social media. He responded with screaming threats about how he'd sic his attorneys on me. I still laugh about that. I'm not one to be bullied or have my lunch money stolen. I guess Mr. Finn is used to people rolling over to his verbal abuse. I've gone through the same thing before and having been to law school, I know it isn't liable or defamation if you can document and prove every word of your claims. So I'm not afraid of his attorneys. I think being in receivership will keep them busy. So be warned. I'll let you decide if you want to do business with a company that won't stand behind their work or their products.

All new wood, siding, and paint by Allied Siding!

The price was very competitive and even though it was slightly higher than another quote, we felt the most comfortable with Allied.

They were each professional and provided great information about their products and had very knowledgeable reps. After speaking with Colin, we knew the right choice for us was The Window Source. He explained in detail the process, the benefits of how these windows, and answered questions that we had not even thought about. With the final price in hand, we reached out and confirmed with Colin that we selected The Window Source. After our windows were custom-made, the crew came in and left the house cleaner than what they found it. They were very detail-oriented about every step and the supervisor kept us informed of what they were doing and why. After they finished and cleaned up the work areas both inside and out, we received hands-on instruction on how to properly clean and use the windows. This is very helpful, especially in Houston heat and those few days of the year were near freezing. On the back end, the staff was great and helping us process the final payment. A clincher for us is that there is a transferable limited lifetime warranty with the product. Having a locally based company helps us support our local economy and know that there are faces behind the company name that we can reach out to if we need any help or have a question. Highly recommend The Window Source as your choice as we've already let our friends and neighbors know.

That's fine. He was polite and punctual. We discussed if he could give quotes with varying window styles (combination of picture, single hung, and casements), to let me know my options and how it affects pricing structure. He mentioned he would get back to me on Monday/weekday but it's been 3 weeks and I've heard nothing. Window replacements are a big ticket item so I recommend shopping around to bid your projects and see who's communicative and follows through - especially if they're charging a premium.

Many of which were mullioned windows (if you pay to have your windows washed - you know the added expense of those!) I received 4 quotes from different companies. Some were higher, one was lower, but I went with Vizion because of the fact they are a family owned Texas based company and they have over 4 decades of experience in the Window Industry. From the initial meeting to the installation, it was a seamless experience, and this was during Covid, when material shortages were creating 8-10 month back orders. They stayed in constant contact and the windows are great. I recommend at the very least, inviting them out to bid on your window project. I don't think you'll regret it. They are as honest as the day is long. And that's hard to find in this day and age.

Tiffany came out to do measurements for all new exterior doors. She was so wonderful. She explained everything, answered our million questions and was so patient doing so. We finally made our select on all the doors we need and placed the order. These doors are not cheap by any means. I used them twice for different houses, so that alone is a testament of my good experience with this company. On my latest install, they were professional from start to finish, although not perfect in some areas (more on that later). I'll start with the issues, and then close with the positives. On our first house, I encountered some disappointing challenges during the execution/installation phase. Our garden was trampled on, one of the windows were installed on the wrong spot, and a light fixture was damaged and the crew tried (poorly) fixing it without notifying me (all caught on CCTV). With all that said though, the company stands by doing the right thing and resolved everything on a timely manner. How it was handled was much appreciated and influenced me to use them again and refer others. On our second house, almost everything went smoothly. All windows were replaced in just two days! Just encountered a minor hiccup when a wall was damaged and a worker claimed it was pre-existing. Luckily, I purposely took before-photos and was able to provide evidence that it was not pre-existing. In the end, it was fixed within satisfaction. As for the positives, I really have to give credit to Milton, the supervisor on the second house. He was very professional and accommodating. On one of the windows, he found water damage and pointed it out to me instead of trying to cover it up. The damage and source were all fixed. Seriously, he could have moved on and I would have never known! All the windows were installed to my satisfaction. Few minor quirks remained, but possibly due to the window manufacture (or so I was explained). Also appreciate how floors snd countertops are covered to prevent/reduce damage and dust. I recommend this company. Here are some tips before using them (or any other window company): - Take lots of photos of each window before the work starts. Ensure to get several close ups and different angles of the trim and corners, both inside and out. Ensure good lighting for a useful photo. - Check with your HOA to see if it's the window replacements are allowed. Some care about colors of trim and grid vs non-grid. - Expect the order to take several months to come in. Get your quote early if it's a house you plan on moving in.
