We promptly decided it was time to have it replaced...better than ever before! We got a couple bids for the job. But Charles really stood out because: 1. After walking the job, he promptly sent a detailed bid and CAD drawing. We refined the scope several times and every time he would promptly refine the quote and redo the CAD drawing. Very good follow through. Not pushy, just responsive. 2. He had a large book of color photographs of his work that helped us choose finishes and make design decisions. He has done a TON of patios and pergolas in different styles. I love this book because there are a lot of decisions to make -- it's easier to point to the picture you like more vs. having to imagine if you want feature A or B. In terms of price, Charles was in the middle -- not the highest bid and not the lowest. But we got the best feeling from him, and that's what is important to me. We redid our kitchen two years ago and our general contractor (not Charles, obviously), fled the country in the middle of the job after a progress payment! Yikes, bad memories. I am very happy with how my patio and pergola turned out; we seriously live outside now. We have a plexiglass cover (to protect from rain) and fans (to help somewhat with the Texas heat). Charles and his crew were great overall. Pluses: - They only do outdoor patios and pergolas. This is what they are good at and they are fast. - Charles was here a lot, especially at first to get the job started. He didn't just oversee progress, he was out there working and sweating with his men. - Charles helped to perfect the design while the job was in progress. He had his wife paint several different colors of grey stain onto sample boards so we could choose the right one. We spent a few hours perfecting the brick pattern on the columns. He wanted us to be happy with the final outcome. - Flexible with changes with very few change orders. I must have added 10 electrical outlets...didn't get a bill for it. So unusual for a GC. - Open to feedback when we felt like something wasn't perfect. Because they were outside my kitchen window, I would do dishes and watch progress unfold. And let him know when I didn't like something. Absolutely never got push back from him. He would call his crew or come by and fix it immediately. - Follow through has been great. Even after we were all paid up, he sent over a crew a couple times because rain was getting through my plexiglass cover. Again, so unusual for a GC. Minuses: - I wish they would broaden their scope from just outdoor patios and pergolas to other things. I have a bathroom I would love for them to remodel. Ah well. Anyway, check out the pictures. One of the prettiest patios and pergolas I have ever seen, and I'm lucky enough to have it in my backyard.

I had my floor redone from tile to wood , they didn't float the floor properly, you can see gaps in the baseboard and see many area that had hump which cause the floor to crack. Electrical wiring for my dishwasher wasn't properly installed, even best buy didn't want to touch it. The only good thing I can really say is window installation was done well. It's excuses after excuses. Whenever I asked to get it fixed, it seems like David was doing my a favor. I would steer clear.

I saw a few positive reviews of the company on Facebook, and someone in my neighborhood recommended them, so I hired them. Unfortunately, my experience was not good. The project went well at first. The carpenters (Armando and Ivan) were great, the hvac crew knew what they were doing, and the electricians did what they were supposed to do. The problem was the painters - they ruined the entire project and delayed the completion date by two weeks. The two gentlemen painters were unprofessional and disrespectful of my property, and their workmanship was dreadful. I did not receive the spray-painted smooth finish on my cabinetry because the painters botched the job. After their failed attempt at spray-painting, they resorted to rolling the paint and spoiled that as well. The owner of the company, Mario, mismanaged the project and allowed the mistakes to continue. He was rarely on-site and either 1) did not recognize the extent of the errors, or 2) did not care. I had to text him each evening with pictures of the issues that had to be fixed (dents, drips, scratches, items embedded in the paint, blue/green spackle showing through the paint, areas primed but not painted, etc.). At one point he sent his crew over for their tools and asked me if I wanted another company to finish the job. I realized then that he was threatening to walk off the job, and I knew I had to settle for the inferior work if I wanted to have cabinet and drawer fronts again. I could not fathom the idea that any company would be willing to come behind EGK Custom Homes and fix all the issues. It was a truly horrible experience, and I am still picking paint and primer overspray off my kitchen counters, stovetop, dishes, appliances, plasticware, etc. Luckily, Mario paid to have the paint removed from my vehicle - how did that even happen?? I have included a few sample photos of the painting fiasco. The first few photos were taken on September 17, 2020 - the first time Mario told me that they were done painting and they were going to install the doors and drawer fronts the next day. Each day after that, the painters would leave, and my daughter and I would mark their mistakes with tape so that they could see what to fix the next day. Obviously, I do not recommend EGK Custom Homes unless you only want woodwork done and zero painting. If that's the case, Armando and Ivan Pineda are excellent for all of your carpentry needs. I hope you all have a better experience with your remodel than I did.

We started the search for a contractor that could do both projects and had several estimates from local contractors. I stumbled across Babylon JT Construction on Yelp and gave them a call. They sent Sal to my home to talk with us and get an understanding of what we were looking for. Sal immediately impressed me with his knowledge of both kitchen remodel and building a Patio Cover. Sal worked with their estimating team and cost control to provide us with an estimate that fell inline with the other estimates that we had. Since I was impressed with Sal and the estimate was reasonable, we went with them. Upon agreeing to the work Leslie was assigned as our project manager. Leslie was remarkable and one of the hardest workers I ever met. She coordinated all activities of the Kitchen remodel and then later the Patio Cover build. We wanted to have our Kitchen bilevel counter lowered into one level and decided to use Quartzite stone for the countertops and backsplash. We had old wallpaper that was removed and the walls textured and painted. Jose was the craftsman that did the actual work and he was excellent. His attention to detail is remarkable and he was very dependable. The actual Quartzite stone was installed by a subcontractor but it turned out very nice. My wife is very happy with the new kitchen and I must admit it makes a big difference. I have posted a before and after pictures. Whenever we had a question and reached out to Leslie she was always quick to respond even after hours and weekend. After the Kitchen was done which took almost a month by the way we then started with the Patio Cover project. I needed HOA approval so Leslie coordinated with the design team and Leonard the construction supervisor. Leonard is an expert on construction and took the thoughts that I had and put them into reality. He knew exactly what material and labor was needed. Leonard worked with Leslie to develop drawings, renditions and a material listing. Leslie prepared and submitted the HOA packet for me and answered all the questions that they sent back. It took three months between the HOA questions and finally getting approval. Once approved Leslie coordinated with Leonard to start the construction. Leonard had Carlos who turned out to be an outstanding carpenter and overall construction expert. Carlos and his helper did most of the actual work and really did not require much supervision. Leonard and Jorge, another construction supervisor did provide good quality control and visited the job site often. Carlos and his helper did a remarkable job building the Patio Cover that turn out even better than what I had envisioned. We get a lot of complements on it from neighbors in our community. A special thank you to Babylon and especially Sal, Leslie, Jose, Carlos, Leonard and Jorge. Without a doubt I highly recommend Babylon JT Construction for any Home renovations you may need.
