Anyways, I showed up in the afternoon on a Tuesday, and I was the only one there. Shortly after walking in, a man who I presume is the owner, helped me out right after I said I had 2 knives to get sharpened. The front area has a big wooden cutting board that you can use to demo the knives out after they're sharpened, which I thought was cool. There's also walls and walls of cool knives, which I couldn't tell if they were for sale or for demos, but they were really cool to look at while I waited. The service was incredibly reasonably priced. I was out of there with sharpened knives in less than 10 minutes and the space was reasonably large. I hope that means the business is doing well. It certainly deserves to. I got exactly the service I requested. The quality of the knives was so good that my dad actually got a little cut after I gave them back to him. Nothing major, but was a bit funny and definitely proof that they were quite sharpened. The value for the time was extremely good. This is the type of small business that you definitely want to support, and I'll definitely be recommending Mr. Sharpe knives in the future.

But if they sell you an item that THEY took out of the box and have had on display, they want you to pay full price while claiming the item is still "new." We placed an order over the weekend for about $4,000 and were told it would be ready to pick up by Monday. I got there around 12, and the order wasn't ready. Not a big deal--we waited. Then we found out that one of the items included in our order was the display fridge. We told them we wanted a brand-new fridge in a box. The employee kept stating that they "just took it out of the box," but in reality, that fridge has been sitting there on display for a long time. We asked for either a boxed fridge or a refund. The employee did not hesitate to state, "I will meet you at the front and give you your refund," without even trying to offer another alternative or find a solution. There were no customer service skills from the employees or Buster, the manager. The situation escalated pretty quickly, and Buster very rudely kept telling me to stop talking instead of trying to handle the situation professionally and understand why we were upset. We have been doing business with Chef Toys for a very long time, but today they lost a customer because of Buster and the way this situation was handled. I do want to acknowledge and thank the Director of Sales. He understood the situation and very calmly tried to find a solution. Unfortunately, by that point, it was already too late. He showed the professionalism and customer service that we should have received from the beginning. He should be hired as the manager instead.

Booking the appointment online was quick and easy. The owner, Brandon, arrived right on time and sharpened all five of my knives in just 30 minutes. I still can't believe how convenient this entire service was--he brings the workshop to you (his truck). While there was a small "oopsie" on my Ka-Bar knife, Brandon immediately took full ownership of the mistake and generously gave me the sharpening on that knife for free. That kind of integrity and customer service is rare and highly appreciated. Overall, the price was very reasonable, the service was friendly, and the results are fantastic. I had a chance to speak to Mike over the phone before I had them sharpened. Basically this company deals in bulk and the prices drop per knife the more that the customer sharpens. We had about 20 knives to sharpen and they ended up being about 7 dollars a knife when it was all said and done. The part that was pretty cool is that they send you an empty box directly to your house. It comes with a shipping label and some packaging material. After the knives were shipped back I got a phone call personally from Mike confirming that everything was perfect on my order. I cannot even begin to describe how sharp these knives were. With such a hunk of dull steel, he sharpened it sharp enough to shave hair yet allowed the blade to retain enough strength. He really understands how to shape a blade and how to properly deal with steel. I have not brought in knives yet, but from his work on my axe, I'm positive they can make them perfect. Now on the business side, Schmidt's is really that perfect small business that has the time and vision to care about providing quality as opposed to just meeting a profit margin goal. First of all, they obviously specialized in knives, but were flexible enough to let me meet them at their workshop to sharpen my axe and were very considerate about not wasting my time. Not only that, but Mike drove quite a few miles to meet me and sharpen my axe for next to nothing. I have some steak knives that are over 20 years old and had never been resharpened before. They had…read moregotten so dull that I thought I would have to throw them away, but they are Henckels, so they are nice enough that I didn't want to give up on them too easily. I had my husband bring them into Unlimited Bladeworkz for resharpening. They came back with narrower blades, but able to cut well again, which made me very happy. My husband said that Jason, the proprietor of the store, was friendly and knowledgeable, and he has brought in other kitchen knives and even pocket knives to be resharpened on subsequent trips there, all with great results. Thanks to Unlimited Bladeworkz, I will hopefully have another 20 years with our favorite family steak knives. This time I will have them resharpened sooner when needed. My husband also said that there was a sign outside the store that they resharpen scissors too, so that will be my next chore for him.
