Not sure what went wrong to make my 2nd visit turn out so bad?…read more My first visit at Nevada County Auto Repair for new front brakes went smooth and successful months prior... Brought in my 2013 Subaru Legacy for a P0171 code (lean bank 1). I own an automotive code reader, so I at least had a code before I dropped off car. Having some knowledge is better than nothing... I get a call a few days later saying they are still trying to figure out the problem, but have replaced front 02 sensor. At 5 days later, I am told they replaced the MAF sensor (without authorization). I would have authorized it, but it would be nice to know that was the actual problem, without guessing. I'm told at this point they will reset the computer, clearing code and hoping this fixes it... The day I pick up the car, I finally find out how much all of this is going to cost. I get charged almost $1,000 for an 02 sensor & MAF sensor. Bearing in mind both sensors on a Subaru are located at the front of the car, the MAF unscrews at top of engine bay in easy reach. I paid that bill calmly, and just wanted my car back, but.... I get out to the car to drive away, and see the "low gas" light on, and needle below the E mark on the gauge! I brought the car in with over a .25 of a tank. Not much, and I totally understand the mechanic needed to drive the vehicle around to make sure it ran ok after the work performed.... BUT I do not want to drive the car on E getting to the gas station to put more in, AND it's not good on the fuel pump to drive on "E"! I go back into the office, very politely explain the situation; and am told by both Todd & Kim(?) that there is nothing they can do, and NO we don't have a gas can to even give you a 1/2 gallon to get to the nearest gas station... At this point I thought I was on some kind of reality show and camera's were rolling to catch the look on my face, but this was real. Not believing all this, I left; hoping and praying I didn't stall going through busy intersections. Well, today I am right back at code P0171 with the same exact symptoms I had a month ago. I have no idea what other tests were performed, as the bill shows nothing of further diagnosis. Did they check all rubber vapor hoses? Was the PCV valve ok? Fuel pressure? Are the parts genuine OEM? I have no idea. I guess for $996.06 you don't get that info... Do this to help protect yourself: Watch Scotty Kilmer on YouTube and buy a code reader (at least get some idea of what's going on if you have to visit an automotive repair shop). Get everything in writing & ask for your old parts back (by law they have to give them to you).

I've had Several terrible experiences (I gave them the benefit of the doubt far to many times) that cost a lot of money! I'm still having to paying mechanics to fix the work that was done at this shop. They quite literally used electrical tape to try to fix wires they broke, they tried to charge us twice (in the same visit) for an AC diagnostics that they never figured out. They tried to charge me for resetting a code that never fixed anything and I was back in the shop for the same issue anyway. Definitely avoid this shop, they either are challenged being mechanics, or if they're good mechanics, they're Shiesty businessman. I left a good review before, the more interaction that I got the worst my car got.

I've been meaning to write this review for like 2 years now and never got around to it. I just…read moreremembered, and figured it was time. 2 years ago or so, the starter went out on my 2017 Silverado. I was stranded at home, and couldn't start the car. So, I decided to call the service department at Gold Rush Chevrolet. The guys on the phone was very dismissive, and talked to me like I was brain dead for asking whether it was OK to have the car towed over there outside of business hours. My bad, I'd never had my car towed to a shop before... sorry for asking a question. Anyway I was kind of annoyed, and decided to try and figure out what the hell was wrong with my truck solo. I got my voltmeter out, and pulled out the wheel well covers, and tested my starter. I confirmed that it was indeed a failing starter. Once, I did that, I realized it was very easy to just take it out, so I did that. Once I had it out, I was like "hey, how much does this thing cost?" turns out, it was like $175 or so from O'Reilly's... so I bought it, and installed it. Now, I have a brand new AC Delco starter installed for $175. Amazing! So, again thank you rude service guy for being such a tool on the phone, you literally saved me hundreds of dollars. You guys would have charged me 2 hours of labor at least, and probably a little profit margin on the starter itself, so instead of paying $175 and 45 min of my time, I would have paid $600 or so dollars to you guys! Thank you Gold Rush Chevrolet, you taught a man how to fish, and now I just work on the truck myself whenever I can. God bless.
