I visited several vendors for eat and to chat and learn about their trade. I certainly learned some and ate some good food like vegan adobada and a terrific vegan croissant. All the vendors were very nice happy to provide Vegan treats. Being held at a parking lot at Grossmont Mall, parking is plentiful and access is easy.

Whelp, I have a solution for that...plan your OWN Vegan Festival and it can be wherever you want it to be! Until then, this is the best thing to happen to the San Diego Vegan scene since...ever! and (2) the lines are too looooong. I get there when it opens and there are zero lines. So, there you have it: problems solved. Either drive to where it is or plan your own and if you don't, get there when it starts. I am gracious and thankful that people are VOLUNTEERING their time to put on this awesome vegan festival and coordinating with the mall and vendors. It's held the first Friday of each month. I was fortunate enough to run into this true natured BBQ food vendor at the Burning Beard Brewery…read more The proprietor cooks all his meats the traditional way with hot flavored smoke. In fact, he smokes the meats inside modified re-engineered barrels that had been expertly designed for BBQ. I could not help myself and I ordered the smoked tri tip nachos that not only came with heavenly medium temped smoked tr tip, but with a house made baked bean made with beer. The tri tip was very well prepared and had a mild smoky flavor brought on by the quality avocado wood locally harvested and supplied by avocado growers. The meat was a perfectly smoked and was very tender and had the right moisture level. The smoked meat was topped with a drizzle of tasty BBQ sauce and laid over the the homemade baked beans and crispy tortilla chips. The beans were tender, well seasoned, and had a subtle flavor of a craft beer. Well done. The nachos came with a handsome amount of crispy tortilla chips, but one thing these nachos needed was perhaps a light garnish of chopped peppery scallions or a light sprinkle of finely shredded cheese, not just for color but for that little extra flavor profile. The gent running the smoked meat shop or real BBQ haven was a gent and quite informative regarding his trade.

I love some great BBQ, and am extra fond of the Tri-Tip he makes. I have had it several times and it's always just perfect. So tender and the flavor is always on-point. He switches up the kind of wood he cooks it over and the sauce he uses over the meat is paired perfectly with whatever you're drinking at the breweries! The quantity of food is excellent. You truly get what you pay for. If you spend $12 on nachos, you're getting $12 worth of food, which is something very rare to find nowadays. As you can see from my photo, the nachos are loaded, which I absolutely love. (Definitely enough to share! And I'm not someone that normally likes to share my food!) Same goes for the Tri-Tip sandwich. He always ensures there is more meat than bread.. that's how you do it! So grab a few friends, get some brews, and try out the Carver, Coal & Barrel! You will not be disappointed and if you're anything like my friends and I, you'll be craving it frequently!

I remember trying Sonoran-style hot dogs while visiting a friend in Tucson, AZ several years ago…read more After seeing Ochidoggy show up on the activity feed for my connections, I decided to visit this pop-up vendor in the southern part of the Normal Heights neighborhood. The setup was a simple cart under a canopy in a random parking lot on El Cajon Blvd. A few picnic tables with overhead cover were available if you wanted to eat your food on-site. Five different hot dogs along with french fries and a stuffed jalapeno pepper were offered on the menu. A typical Sonoran hot dog has a bacon-wrapped frank topped with pinto beans, onions, tomatoes, and other condiments. It's served on a bolillo bun. The Hot Dog Regular here contained bacon, grilled onion, red onion, tomato, and mayonnaise on a football-shaped bun which made it the closest resemblance to an original Sonoran. I chose two other varieties for my to-go order, a Hot Dog Jumbo and a Hot Dog Chilidogo. The first one had the same ingredients as the Regular with ham and American cheese added. The second one also had the same ingredients as the Regular, however the bacon-wrapped frank was stuffed inside a California pepper with grilled mozzarella cheese on top. Trays of condiments were arranged in front of the cart so you could select additional toppings. Four different sauce bottles were also available for more flavor. As you can see from my photo, both hot dogs were buried under the other components. The right type of bun was used which was very soft. I did feel that a gratuitous amount of mayonnaise was drizzled on top. I didn't add more toppings or sauces because there was already a sufficient spread. I am unsure if there are other businesses in the SD area that serve Sonoran-style hot dogs as I have not actively searched for them. I can say that the products I tasted from Ochidoggy were good enough for a four star rating.

Two Taco Tuesday plates of 3 tacos each and an additional side of Tortilla chips plus $2 for cheese on each plate x2 plates =$29, which we were a little taken back by the price, especially since it's a food truck and there is no service or places to sit, so it's sidewalk ambience.. they have sit down Restaurant prices If I am in the area again, I may try Kiko's Place again
