I actually walked into Tacos El Villasana without realizing this was the place I had bookmarked to visit when I hit San Diego. It just seemed like a cool bar to check out. But I digress. The margaritas at the bar were hitting. I was already very happy when I made my way to the patio out back and picked up a menu only to realize where I was. Had to get the ribeye tacos and man were they good. So were the shrimp tacos. Lots of seating available and you get to watch the man throw down in the kitchen. Just a fitting food spot for a wonderful area.

THE SPACE: You walk into an open and spacious tap house with seating and large windows facing the street. There's also a small stage, so I'm assuming they have live music at times. Walk past the bar and through a corridor and you are welcomed by an open, airy outdoor space and the smell of the grill. Outside, there are tables surrounded by some greenery. It's counter service, so you place your order and they bring the food to the table. THE FOOD: We ordered the ribeye, shrimp and cabeza tacos. Oh my goodness, those ribeyes were worth every bite. They were topped with chimichurri and they were incredibly flavorful, well seasoned, and perfectly cooked. I am seriously still thinking about them! The shrimp taco was equally as good. The shrimp were cooked to perfection, not too chewy, and topped with a generous amount of guacamole. The cabeza tacos were also on point, packed with flavor and perfectly tender. All tacos were generously portioned. THE DRINKS: The Jamaica water is made with passionfruit and was honestly refreshing. The mango pineapple agua was my fave. Not too sweet , just right. We also tried their House Blonde beer and it paired well with my tacos. This is definitely a place I'll be coming back to.

The sweet smell of Chuchy's... I love this place. I'm officially a regular after first discovering…read morethem at two catered events: a wedding and a dog‑park event. Both times, I was impressed watching them hand‑press fresh tortillas on the spot and grill the meat in real time. No cold tortillas, no dried‑out meat sitting around waiting to be served. Just fresh, delicious tacos. I would absolutely recommend them for catering. The National City location is clean, efficient, and easy to visit. You order at the counter, grab your tacos a few minutes later, then head over to the salsa bar to load up on all the fixings. Parking is easy, the bathrooms are clean, and the staff is always friendly. The tortillas are what really set this place apart -- fresh, flavorful, and the perfect texture. The meat is excellent too. My go‑to order is a couple of carne asada tacos, which make for the perfect lunch. They also offer complimentary puffed chips for dine‑in guests, which is a nice touch. They run Taco Tuesday specials (sadly not on the carne asada, my favorite), and they have a few other locations I haven't visited yet. But for me, the National City spot is the one. Fresh tortillas, great meat, fast service, and consistently good food. What's not to love?

The char and flavor on the asada was perfect. The al pastor had great flavor and both were very tender. The asada tacos were delicious. I wasn't a fan of the quesadilla with birria. The birria flavor wasn't quite there and it just made the tortilla all soggy. I would love this place more if they had some fire hot sauce but unfortunately none of the sauce were spicy at all. The pickle carrots were still pretty hard. Their drinks were delicious. Cucumbers lime and horchata was my favorite. And they give you 1 free refills. Cashier was super friendly and food came out really fresh and fast. Lively atmosphere with mexican music and sports playing on the TV. Easy to find with plenty of parking and lots of setting inside.

And that's what these tamales taste like to me. The masa is more flavorful than a typical tamale in my experience, and all the ingredients are fresh, just wonderful food. You will usually want to get there early to have a good choice of what you get and they don't always come out right away, so you might find yourself waiting. That's o.k. Patience is a virtue in this life and you might find yourself getting some of the best home made style tamales if you have some. :-) Also, this is a food stand, I don't believe they have any place to eat here so ambiance isn't a thing, the parking can be a little tough but not usually a big deal.

Unfortunately, they had already run out of the chicken and beef tamales. There was also a mix-up with our order. We were told we had two chicken, six cheese, and four pork tamales, but when we got home, we actually had one chicken, seven pork, and four cheese. The cheese tamales were incredible, though! The churros were okay. I thought they were homemade, but I think they may be frozen churros with different fillings. Overall, the tamales were delicious. I just need to go earlier next time so I can get the flavors I want!

They have a few locations, and I recently visited the National City storefront... left just as satisfied. The tacos are definitely on the pricier side, but the quality makes it worth it. They press fresh corn tortillas right on the spot, the meat actually tastes like true asada, and the salsa/topping bar lets you customize your already amazing taco. Service is friendly, fast, and consistent. A go‑to spot when you want tacos that feel authentic.

Extremely disappointing customer service from Taquizas Los Chuchys…read more We booked them for our daughter's first birthday party, but unfortunately had to cancel at the last minute because our one year old became seriously ill with a highly contagious respiratory illness. Our doctor confirmed that others could have contracted it, including the catering staff. We made the responsible decision not to expose 50+ guests and their employees to a potentially serious illness. We understood that our ~$300 deposit was nonrefundable. We weren't asking for our money back, only whether it could be applied toward a future event. Despite the exceptional circumstances, the company refused to offer any flexibility whatsoever. What made the experience particularly disappointing was the customer service. Communication felt dismissive and discourteous from the beginning. Both my husband and I attempted to call, and I sent multiple messages explaining the situation. We were told someone would call us, but no one did. When we followed up, the manager, who later identified herself as an owner, stated that she would only communicate by email and that her decision was final. To make matters worse, despite confirming our cancellation, their taquero still showed up at our home on the day of the event. I understand that businesses have cancellation policies and expenses. However, I also believe that compassion, professionalism, and reasonable consideration of extraordinary circumstances are important parts of customer service, especially when you're paying premium prices. We chose to prioritize the health and safety of our daughter, our guests, and their employees, and ultimately lost ~$300 for doing so. Very disappointing experience, especially during what should have been a happy milestone for our family. We will not be using their services in the future.
