Aling Tonya's is one of the best Paluto restaurants in the metro. I first got to check it out at Home Depot in Ortigas, and I've always loved it. Earlier today, I was able to go to their original branch in Baclaran. And while the restaurant is not the original one that was set up in the 80s, it has that old-timer vibe I love with institution-type restaurants.
The fact is, Aling Tonya's really knows, as in REALLY knows how to do seafood. They never get anything wrong. While paluto-style restaurants are a dime a dozen, Aling Tonya stands heads and shoulders above the field.
I've been to the Ortigas branch of Aling Tonya's a lot, so I've been able to taste a substantial chunk of the menu. For fairness' sake, I'll just talk about the dishes we had earlier. The Pinaputok na Tilapia was served piping hot, and it was flavored just right, not underwhelming nor overpowering. The Steamed Tahongs were meaty and large and cooked just right. And last but not the least, the Grilled Squid was grilled to perfection, as it was soft and tender, yet bursting with flavor.
If you want to try out Aling Tonya's, I would recommend you go to their Ortigas or Macapagal branches, as going to their Baclaran branch is a bit tricky. It is honestly also the least appealing branch in terms of environment and ambiance. Having said all of that, I quite liked the charm of the flagship branch, and I would actually come back here. read more
