Rodic's rose to fame from the recesses of the University of the Philippines' Shopping Arcade. This is the areas where the students converge to buy their school supplies as well as have their lectures photocopied for notes and later use. Students were craving for a meal that is both satisfying and at the same time student budget friendly. Put two and two together, and you have a phenomenon called Rodic's tapsilog. Thankfully they open one in Makati! Rodic's interiors are unpretentious and not as glamorous as the yummy tapsilog that they serve. Tapsilog in the Philippines may be rendered in a many different way - some have it a little bit on the saucy side, some like it dry. There are even variations of having the tapa in chunks or in bits. But no matter how this is done, the tapsilog is considered as one of the all-time breakfast food of the country. Rodic's type of tapsilog is morre of the tidbit crispy type. Imagine tapa bits showered over a bed of rice topped with egg. Genius work I have to say.

Rodic's is a UP Diliman institution. That famous tapsilog has fed and satisfied countless UP students since the 50s, and they're still going strong to this day. Now, outsiders may dismiss Rodics as just another carinderia, especially when they run into branches of this franchise outside UP. Case in point, the Rodic's in Salcedo st in Legaspi Village. It's a blink-and-you-miss-it kind of outlet, tucked into a rather old building, and as is the case with their UP branches, is not a visual feast on the eyes. But who cares?!? You came here to eat, not to look at the decor! Usually, one order of Rodic's famous corned tapsilog is enough to convert even the hardest critic, so that's all I'll say about this branch.

This is a must-visit for the silog-loving folks. Rodic's has been around for ages, I know of it but I never really got the chance to eat here until now. I was walking along the street, arguably lost (I said "arguably", I might or might not have known where I was headed to. Lol), sweating and hungry. Not to mention out of budget. I loved it inside. Nothing special, not at all. But the AC was looove. So yes, if you ever fins yourself in the same situation I was in, you might wanna eat here too. I ordered their tapsilog. I would've gone for the baconsilog meal but I was curious about their tapa. I only paid around Php 85 (or maybe 95?) for it. Not bad eh? They also have sinigang if you want some soup. My money was well-spent. The place is literally cool, the menu is nice and reasonably priced, and the tapa was awesome.

Very good and very affordable. We got their tapsilog, bistek and kaldereta. Everything was on point. Will definitely go back.

During my visit, I've had quite a bit of tapsilog and tocilog but this one stands out as a favorite!

We stayed at a hotel in Makati so it was really convenient to get to the restaurant. I'm glad there were pedestrian bridges in this car-centric area. It reminds me of the Minneapolis Skyway system. Before we dined at the restaurant we strolled along Greenbelt Park. It was during the weekday. People were at work so it was pretty quiet and relaxing. It was nice to be around nature in this metropolis. I'm sure people who work around this area would come to this park during break. I mean, that's what I would do if I was cooped up in a building all day. We didn't know where Manam was so I walked up to the concierge desk at the mall and asked them. She was helpful and friendly. The host at the restaurant welcomed us and we were brought to a table right away. They tried to put us near the front with a rattling air conditioner. In my head I was like, "Really? How am I supposed to have a decent conversation with my fam with that industrial factory noise?!" I seriously wasn't trying to have a janky restaurant experience. Of course I had to mind my manners because I'm just a visitor from a different country. I wasn't about to start something and get myself in trouble. So I kept those inner thoughts to myself, smiled, and politely asked the host to move us further towards the back. They were able to accommodate us. Our server was friendly. The food was good. A couple of customers next to us ordered the Crispy Pancit Palabok tableside service. They enjoyed the entertainment. We had a smorgasbord of items. The restaurant was advertising their Sinigang na Beef Short Rib & Watermelon so we ordered that. The watermelon flavor was subtle. When we got the bill I was ecstatic. I couldn't believe how affordable brunch was. For food and drinks it was under $25. At home it would have been $50-$60 with tip. Honestly, I'm so glad I got to eat at popular Filipino restaurants like Manam during my Philippines vacation. The closest thing we have to popular Filipino restaurant chains back home is Jollibee and Chowking (obviously fast food restaurants). It was nice to eat Filipino comfort food at a modern restaurant on this trip.

After wandering around for half an hour, we ended up in front of the restaurant. What intrigued us about the place was how empty it was, though it was already past five PM and there was major traffic of people in the mall. The site I supposed reminded us that it was dinner time already, so we mulled over whether to give the place a try. My sis quickly decided against it because she assumed an empty restaurant must mean bad food. However, I was craving for real Filipino food at that moment (and I was paying), so we ended up inside the restaurant after quickly glancing at the menu. The place was so empty that even the host was out of sight. After a minute or so, the host appeared and we were seated promptly needless to say. We even had a pick of any table! We ended up ordering the bagnet that came with the sour broth on the side, beef adobo, laing, and garlic fried rice with dilis. And as it turned out, we really enjoyed the food! My sister and my mom raved about the bagnet. I liked everything. In conclusion, the place was a hit. Before our staycation ends this Saturday, I would like to back and try out the other dishes.

For a place that was so busy, surprisingly, it wasn't too noisy and we were able to carry out a conversation. The staff was very attentive, and it seemed like we had multiple people serving us Like most groups, we dined family style. We shared everything that we ordered and every dish was scrumptious. Three of us reside overseas so we were all looking frward to authentic Filipino foods. This place rose to the occasion. The standout was the fish that was filleted and deep-fried, and spread out like a butterfly so it was easy to take a piece off. The fish was cooked perfectly, that is, it wasn't overcooked like most fried fish dishes would be. All of us asked for fresh buko (coconut) juice servied in a whole coconut. However, the coconut was no longer young coconut that usually has soft meat that we can spoon up. instead, it was more "niyog" or mature coconut that needed to be cut up which the staff did for us.

On this visit I had the following items: - Crispy Tadyang - Bamboo Rice The Tadyang (fried short ribs) was incredible - tender, yet crispy and full of flavor. There's a nice portion of beef that arrives in the order, so it's very satisfying. The rice has an interesting flavor profile since it's mixed with spices and shrimp...it's definitely an interesting rice dish you won't find anywhere else. Abe has a huge menu that showcases the diversity in Philippine cuisine. The fact that it includes appetizers, salads, soups, mains, sides and desserts means you'll leave a very satisfied customer. Can't wait for my next visit!

My own stomach deserved better. Solid late-night spot. Generous portions, comforting flavors, and a vibe that feels like a warm hug after a long day (or a long night out, depende sa choices mo). Alfresco dining is super chill, but be warned: it starts getting packed around 1-2AM with people who look like they've survived a full pub crawl. What we ordered: * Pork Bagnetsilog - Crispy, well-seasoned, and surprisingly generous. * Talong Chips + Tokwa - My ultimate fave. I kept "trying one more" until suddenly... nothing was left. Zero self-control, and honestly? Worth it. * Chicharon Bulaklak + Tokwa - Dangerously crunchy. Perfect with rice or on its own. * Coffee Nagaraya Sorbetes - Fun idea, but the coffee flavor needs a little more oomph. Still worth a try. * Leche Flan Sorbetes - A sinful dulce de leche situation -- sweet tooth approved. Only downside: Parking took 30 mins to 1 hour. Will we be back? Absolutely. Probably sooner than parking trauma can heal. Another late night go-to unlocked.
