If you're on the fence - go for it. You'll reap way more rewards than just pain relief. I worked with Rick and he's amazing. Very thorough and you'll have his undivided attention. He's passionate and knowledgeable about the Egoscue Method and helping others and it shows. For background, after a bad fall on ice, my SI joint was pushed out of place and I was unable to walk. After our initial appointment, I already felt relief, and from working together for only a few weeks I'm completely pain-free and in better alignment overall than before my injury. I can't say enough good things. The approach used is non-invasive and very doable - even enjoyable. It's not a band-aid fix but rather gets to the root of the issue which I think is so important. I truly think anyone and everyone could benefit from working with Align Pain Solutions. read more

This place and their methods have me feeling better than I have since I was 12 before I played organized football and screwed up my body. I'm over 70 now and feel so young again! I can't recommend them enough! read more

Rick and Egoscue have literally been a lifeline for me over the past 15 months. If you are in pain, their simple, logical and thoughtful approach will help. Period. I first learned of Egoscue in October of 2018 when, on an especially low day, I posted on Facebook about my incredible sciatic pain as a result of a herniated disc between my L4/L5. I hadn't had an "event" that caused it. As a mid 40's active, professional women, I had a chronic issue with lower back pain that ultimately escalated to a herniation. I travel almost weekly for work and the pain had become unbearable. I was on tons of pain meds and scheduled for surgery the following month. Two rounds of PT had done nothing. I was at my wits end. An old friend from high school saw my post and recommended I give Egoscue a try. I'd done monthly massage, cupping, even acupuncture and dry needling, and all provided temporary relief, but nothing was making a significant difference. I had never heard of Egoscue, but I was up for anything. After the recommendation I did some research, including reading reviews here (which basically convinced me it was worth trying), and called and left a tearful message at the clinic. Rick personally called back within the hour and made time to see me the next day. When I arrived I was wracked with pain... so much so that when I laid on the floor with my knees draped on the cube I couldn't help but sob. Rather than think I was crazy, Rick understood. He shared his own story of pain, walked me through some very gentle exercises and gave me hope. Perhaps that was the best part? Regardless, it was just what I needed. I felt better when I left that day than I had in weeks. He gave me very simple things to do at home, with really nice multimedia assets that made it easy to follow, and helpful little tips that made it easy to incorporate into my life. Over the following weeks Rick became my partner, helping me physically, mentally and emotionally through an incredibly difficult time. Ultimately I did decide to go through with the surgery (microdiscectomy), and for me, it was a success. Instead of traditional PT post surgery, I did Egoscue every day - often twice a day - visiting the clinic once a week or so for Rick to check on my progress and offer new menus as I progressed. He also helped me work on my posture and hip rotation so that I can ensure this doesn't happen again! To be clear, it's not cheap.. but compared to the money I'd been spending on every treatment I could think of, it is worth every penny. Egoscue is a commitment, just like anything worth doing. 15 months later, I'm about 95%. It's been a journey - to say the least - but a journey much better traveled thanks to this incredible clinic. I am so thankful to their team, and especially Rick, for their devotion to helping people in pain. They've made a difference in my life and without reservation I'd say if you've read this far, they likely could for you too. It's certainly worth a shot. read more

WARNING! This place and program is outdated (1980's philosophy)and is a complete scam. Please consider the details and fine print: Any program that asks for up front money to a program and claims to give you your money back if it doesn't work are lying straight to your face. this happened to me at each visit where I confirmed with their policy on guarantee. And then at the very end when I had one visit left all they did was offer me a measly $200 and a refund on my unused visit. Theresa was my therapist and with all due respect has no business in the healing business. as she cannot remember what she was doing 5 min prior. Both of the owners are very old and need to retire. They thrive on folks that are desperate, and willing to try anything. They use various tactics to seem as though you're getting better only to drag you along when actually they have no idea what they're doing. They are not medically trained and their program is outdated. They may claim that this was all from a prior company egoscue which they were with for numerous years and now they are branched off into their own company but I assure you this is the same people that lack integrity and are only in it for the money. They are manipulative and they will charm you into taking your money. Other red flags is that look at the Reviews and see how they were all very very old. There are no recent reviews and I'm not sure why that is. Their philosophy is not backed by science nor their education. They have no basic knowledge of human anatomy and while you're doing these exercises for hours you wonder why am I doing these worthless movements promoted by a person that has no medical training. There's no methodology and when I brought this all up on my second visit they assured me that I was in the right place doing the right thing. They do not like when people question their philosophies and their protocols. And when I requested a new therapist because I was getting nowhere with Theresa, they ignored my request and disregarded my concerns preying on my vulnerability and assuring me that it is a process and to trust it. Point blank: These are not medical professionals and although their claims to help some and have testimonies to prove the program is lie and a placebo. Let this be a warning to all those that even look in to egoscue or align back solutions. Run away, these folks are not healers they have no business in the healing industry there are so many other programs that are way better than this with a way less price tag ie foundations training. I am a back patient and every time I would go there I would have to buy a new piece of equipment or a new gadget to address why I wasn't getting any better I spent an extra $300 just in these gadgets to only get nowhere again they do not know what they are doing it is a scam. They claim to be examples of how well this program works as they are testimonies themselves and cured without medication but dig a little deeper and you'll find that they are actually indeed on narcotic pain medication's. Again do not trust people that will lie to your face. read more

I worked with Rick at Egoscue Austin over video calls during the pandemic. While I wish I could have been there in person, Rick worked wonders over the video calls! I was having neuropathy symptoms in my hands, perhaps due to carpel tunnel syndrome or something similar. Within a few weeks of doing the Egoscue exercises, my pain/ numbness was 95% gone, and the last bit faded a few weeks later. This crew is kind, professional, and sensitive to your needs. I recommend Egoscue to anyone looking for a safe way to reduce pain, or even just to feel more sturdy and flexible! read more

Bottom line, if you are looking for a natural way to become pain-free from a posture-focused approach, give Rick's clinic a hard look. I've been to Rick's Egoscue clinic in Austin twice and had multiple Skype sessions with Rick as well. My initial intake was focused on relief from nerve pain emanating from my lower back primarily due to jiu-jitsu (grappling). I was 100% pain-free in a matter of weeks - I couldn't believe it. Pros: - Depth of experience - Attention to detail - Natural techniques, no drugs/chemicals, etc. - Consistent check-ins (aka you're not "forgotten") - Leverages technology (member login to access therapies + remote options via Skype) Recommendations / wish-list: - Flexibility in pricing plans (no pun intended) (I think the only option was a bundle of 10 sessions when I purchased) - Sessions outside of normal working hours or at least availability on Friday afternoon read more

IN ONE SENTENCE: the best investment I've EVER made in my health was Egoscue. IN A FEW MORE: I'm 29, and I was born with Cerebral Palsy. My entire life I've had chronic back pain. And, I've tried everything on the market to treat it. I came to Rick and his team with so much lower back pain that when I lay in bed at night, it hurt to BREATHE. I also had a secondary pain in my left shoulder. After starting Egoscue, within 4 days, the pain in my shoulder was gone. Within 10 days, I saw my back pain significantly start declining. Now, 11 months later, I worked closely with Rick and 95% of my back pain has been healed and with 100% all natural methods. No surgery, no meds. Egoscue success is NOT overnight and it DOES take consistent effort. However, if you follow your menus and communicate with your therapist, you can't avoid making progress. I expect that I will continue to work with Rick for many years to come to continue to keep my body functional. And I can't say enough about my experience with the entire team. You've renewed my faith in my ability to heal and lead a normal life, despite being born with CP. Thank you to Rick, Robia, Shawn, and the rest of the Egoscue team. I trust you with my health more than anyone. read more

I was lucky enough to find the Egoscue clinic in July of 2006 right when I moved to Austin. I met Rick Mathes and immediately liked him. He has a warm, reassuring manor and really knows his stuff. Over the next few months, he helped me realign my body and then started a strength and conditioning program that was one of the toughest things I've ever done. And this was all just with bodyweight movements. Unfortunately for me, I like life get in the way and strayed away for several years. From time to time Rick would email me just to say hello, never to try and get me back. Fast forward a few years and my body was once again a wreck. Years of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu had taken their toll and I ended up getting double hip surgery in May of this year (2010). Rick just happened to email me around then and I let him know what happened. He mentioned that Egoscue might be able to help rehab me faster and that my hip problems were probably due to alignment issues. I decided that he was probably right and went in to see him again. It's now been about 8 weeks of sessions. I am feeling better and stronger all the time and am sure with Rick's help, I will be better at 36 than I was at 20. Bottom line: if you have pain in life or are an athlete who wants to continue and get better, go see this man. read more

Just wanted to say, three years later and this team is still phenomenal. I'm an Egoscue fan for life :).

I found Rick Mattes on the internet a few years ago and so appreciate his 3 e-cises video for pain in a specific area of the body. I have used them as needed when some body part starts calling to me. This morning I did those for knees as my left one seemed tweaked yesterday when I was walking, and now about a half hour later, it is fine. I have to say that I have been doing Egoscue e-cises since November 2007 and they are and have been the best program for me. All I can say is God bless Rick and thank you. read more

After thirty-five years of increasing pain, I was facing profound fear and sadness that I would never get my active, happy life back. I had explored numerous traditional and alternative healing methods, yet was only feeling more pain by the year. Suffering from spondololysthesis, I now had two herniations and a rupture with horrid sciatica and femoral nerve pain, all of which caused a limp. Every muscle in my body screamed. When a friend mentioned Egoscue, I thought it would be just one more method that would not work, but what alternative did I have? I had to keep trying to find a solution. I drove seven hours round trip once a month, as did my husband who also suffered his version of a pain syndrome. From day one, we were inspired by the simple logic of getting our bodies back into straight alignment through muscle balancing. Month by month for eight sessions, we felt stronger, more optimistic, finally able to enjoy life without pain dominating our bodies. We were so grateful for Rick and Theresa Mathis' expertise in designing our "e-cise menus" that I decided to become certified in the The Egoscue Method. Could there be any greater commendation? This method works! Try this natural, powerful system, and you will experience amazing results to reclaim your life! Barbara and John Baker McKinney, Texas read more

For six years I have been noticeably limping, and the resulting Xray showed my right hip rotated severely to the left and rear. This has either caused a bulging disc or vice versa. Not sure which came first. Years of chiropractic treatments with all they had to offer (decompression, MUA, electric stem, massage, etc.) with no real change. We live far from my family, but each time I was needed, I went to help over the years, each time returning home in yet more pain. Now I am bedridden. I read the Egoscue book about 2 years ago and immediately began doing the ecises. It has helped keep me out of surgery. We ventured from Dallas to Austin to the clinic. They gave me a menu. It seemed to help when there at the office. But when I got home, I found some of them were impossible to do without pain. The gal emailed and over the phone substituted the difficult ones. Each time I found the hip ones hurt. We tried again, until finally I got no more answers from Egoscue. They wanted me to come back, but I found the trip debilitating in and of itself, besides very costly. It is discouraging to want to make the trip back there when the ecises are not producing any real change, even though I am faithful to do the ones I can every day. I feel Egoscue dropped the ball and really doesn't care about my pain or recovery. I paid $225 for something that has not helped and find myself in more and more pain as time goes by, so when I get Medicare at the beginning of the month, I will be trying MRI and MD. read more

Before you think about any kind of joint surgery, go to this clinic and do what they tell you. Tell them what is working, and what you aren't sure about, they will listen. I was facing the inevitability of hip replacement, but my work with Rick has me straightened out and moving better than I have in a long time. The surgery can wait. And if I really do need an operation in the future, I have a much better chance of a successful result. Do the work, and it works. read more

Is your body's musculoskeletal system seriously jacked up? No luck with physical therapy? Headed for surgery? Is your robot body here yet? Since the answer to d is probably "no", then Egoscue may be your answer. Egoscue (ee-GOSS-cue) himself was in the Marine corps for 10 years, when he developed injuries that led him to extensively study human anatomy and how the body works, despite no prior medical training. Egoscue and those trained in the method consider themselves "posture therapists." I would concur; everything about the system he devised is based on the idea that a) your body is system of vertically load-bearing joints b) if you get all the joints lined up and working properly, your body can do what it was designed to do. You may ask yourself what I asked myself 1) how the hell have I not heard of the Egoscue method before? 2) how much does it cost? 3) how can it possibly be different from yoga / pilates / standard pt / etc? 1. Currently, health insurance does not cover the Egoscue method (although my flexible spending people were willing to let me use those funds for it.) Part of the reason for this, I suspect, is that despite having 20+ clinics in the US already (!) , he advertises them as "a world leader in * non-medical * pain relief." Personally, I feel that if a thing is proven by science to make you better, it's medicine, even if you do not ingest/absorb/surgery anything. I do not believe there have been clinical trials of the Egoscue method yet, but there ought to be. I think they claim a crazy 94?% success rate. But since insurance doesn't take it - 2. It is pricey. I think for a block of 6? 8? sessions I paid $180 per session. You can pay for a single session for $250 if you just want to check it out. (You can also do a Skype session with a therapist if you can't get to a clinic). Now before you go "no way will I pay that for a single session of whatever", I have to say I have only the highest praise for these people. This is what physical therapy ought to be. I think for each of the first few sessions I was in there, my therapist Annie spent 2+ hours with me figuring out what I could or could not do. She watched me like a hawk during every exercise to make sure I kept doing them precisely. She was never watching the clock or rushing me out of there, or working with 5 other people at the same time while I was there. Does your physical therapist do that? (The 5 different ones I saw this time around, who were covered by insurance, did not). 3. How is it different? It just is. Egoscue does use some adapted motion from other modalities of body therapy, but a number of the exercises, when you do them, are and feel different from typical p.t. Yes, it seems impossible that somebody else had not already devised a number of these exercises, but there you have it. The method also uses mainly only your bodyweight, and requires few extra accessories. At this point I am about 90% better after almost 6 months of Egoscue therapy. Having previously practiced yoga and tai chi at length, I can say that in terms of strictly how my physical body feels, these guys are in a nearby neighborhood. I wouldn't say I feel as much benefit in the brain either, since Egoscue doesn't stress breathing quite as much as those other techniques. (Plus note that when I was doing yoga and tai chi, I wasn't starting with 'DANGER! BODY AT4% USABILITY!') Mr. Egoscue has a number of highly rated books available online that you can try before heading to a clinic, including the one that led me to the Austin practice, called "Pain Free." Any of Egoscue's books are far cheaper than hands-on therapy, to be sure. They're good, but can't seriously pinpoint your particular problems like a person who has trained in this stuff and is watching you move. Still think the people at Egoscue can't help? (It is definitely possible.. sometimes surgery is the only answer when you've had serious trauma). But you might as well call 'em for a free consult. They already believe they can help you. : ) read more

15 years ago I was a single mom of two children under age four. But my shoulders hurt so much that I could not pick them up. I cried with pain every day. The local Austin doctors could NOT figure out what was wrong with me. And I was slated for exploratory surgery to try to solve the problem but I did not have much faith in that. My boyfriend had some travel miles and sent me to the Egoscue clinic in San Diego. Pete Egoscue evaluated me. I had three sessions on Thursday, Friday, and Monday. And I went back home to Austin feeling 85% better. I canceled the surgery, and became a lifelong Egoscue fan. Over the years I have been more devoted at times than others. But for the last two years I have done at least an hour of Egoscue exercises a day. I consider it an investment in my mobility. I am certain that without Egoscue, I would probably have been having trouble walking by now. I LOVE feeling beautifully perfectly aligned every day. I love being able to do 2-4 hours of exercise a day without any aches or pains. I have better posture than anyone I know my age. And even now that I am in Marin County, California, I have sent several people to Egoscue. Even my Zumba teacher who told me that without Egoscue, he would probably be in pain every day. I have been traveling around the world for the last two years, and I still never miss my Egoscue appointments with Theresa. We just use skype and it's easy. I have always felt that I am getting the best care available in the world, right here in the Austin Egoscue clinic. That is why I have also sent my mother, sister, and about ten friends there over the years and every single one of them has reported excellent results. Don't let anyone operate on you until you give Egoscue a concerted effort of at least 5 menus first. You need every tiny bit of your structural system that some doctor might be all too happy to cut away. Yours Debra read more

I have trained with Rick at Egoscue for over 2 years. I would highly recommend his program to anybody looking to be pain free. The Egoscue program addresses the cause of bodily pain and helps you fix it instead of trying to put a "band aid" on the issue by making the symptoms temporarily go away. I am an avid golfer and was struggling with back pain which never really went away and every couple of months would be severe. I had heard about Egoscue through a friend and decided to give it a try. Within a couple of visits I felt like a different person. It took some work on my part to diligently do the prescribed exercises, but the results were great. I am now able to play golf, workout and run and feel great doing it. My whole family has visited and greatly benefitted from Rick and his staff at Egoscue. They are friendly, enthusiastic and have a genuine desire to help you get pain free. I wish I would have found them when I was 18 instead of 38. read more

Dear Rick, I want to express my deepest thanks to you and your team at Egoscue Austin for the profound impact that you have had on my life. Here is a brief recap of my story... Several years ago, I began suffering from chronic knee pain that eventually forced me to stop running for the first time in over 30 years. As a lifetime competitive runner, I was well-acquainted with the occasional nagging injury but this pain was different -- the stabbing pain that I was experiencing grew progressively worse until one day I was unable to run more than 50 yards! After a year of consultations with surgeons, MRI's and several courses of intense physical therapy my knee pain quickly returned and I resigned myself to never running again. Running had been such a big part of my life that the prospect of never running again was absolutely devastating to me - like losing a close friend. I shared my story with a friend from our church who had recently been treated by you and encouraged me to check out Egoscue. At my first visit, you and your team quickly identified a misalignment that was the root cause of my knee problems. The Egoscue program that you tailored for me was easy-to-follow and could be done just about anywhere without specialized equipment. The results were nothing short of miraculous -- within just a few weeks I was back to running 5 miles without pain. Since then, the fine-tuning that you and your team have made to my routine has enabled me run completely pain-free for the first time in my life. Over the past two years, I have shared my experience with dozens of people throughout the United States - many of whom have tried Egoscue and had very positive results. As you know, my son who was a highly competitive Division I NCAA runner, was so impressed with Egoscue that he became a certified Egoscue instructor after spending time with you and your team. He is now planning to incorporate the Egoscue discipline as part of his sports-oriented chiropractic practice when he completes his Doctorate in a few years. This weekend I will be running a half-marathon with my daughter, who is tuning up another race with my wife in a few months. It is fair to say that none of this would have been possible had it not been for your team and the Egoscue program. You have had a profound impact on my life and the lives of those closest to me. Thank you and God Bless You, Bob Knorr read more

When I try to gather together all the great things I have to say about Egoscue and what they've done for me, I do not know where to begin. It's probably best to start by describing what I used to deal with on a daily basis. I am a lifelong athlete, my sport of choice was always hockey. I used to train on an ambitious schedule, while playing a very high contact sport at a high level. At a certain point, I injured my back. It wasn't an acute injury, so I continued to train and play through it as to not lose my edge. Pretty soon I needed to sit out of practice weeks at a time because my back was spasming. I had worked with at least 3 physical therapists on a regular basis to help recover from past injuries to my knees, but they had no good solution for this new back problem. Soon after that, other things in my life drew me to want to train less, so my back problems got pushed aside since I figured it would eventually heal on it's own. I was very wrong. Over the next two years I continued to excercise frequently, just usually with less intensity. When I would push myself, my back would always get extremely sore and hamper me from doing anything for days at a time. Things that I loved like backpacking and playing hockey became frustrating. I later took a job at my local grocery store that ended up involving lots of repetitive lifting and stooping, as I worked more and more my back began to breakdown worse than ever before. I decided to quite my job and seek physical therapy to help me with my back. I went to two of my old therapists and one new one, none of them gave me what I needed to help long term. One day, my mother suggested I visit with Dr. Katie Phillips, someone she had worked with in the past. I got in touch with Dr. Phillips and we began an 8 week training regimen that was more involved and active than anything I had ever tried before. Like I said, this wasn't my first time recovering from a long term injury. Still, this method of treatment was much more proactive than what other doctors had procured for me in the past. We started with basic establishing movements, then gradually escalated my weekly regimen to include a long list of exercises to help realign the behavior of my back and build the muscles to keep it working the way it should. Some exercises were very difficult at first, some provided immediate relief and became staples of my daily routine! At the end of my treatment, Katie introduced me to a piece of equipment known as "the tower" that I still use in a regular basis anytime I feel out of alignment. More than 2 months after finishing my time with Dr. Phillips and Egoscue, my back is as strong as ever and my posture is the best it has ever been. It feels wonderful to be able to honestly say that, and to have overcome something that ailed me on a daily basis for three years. On days that I feel achy, I have all the resources I need to work out my pain with the exercises I was assigned. With my newfound strength, I have returned to school and found an exciting job that I am very proud of. I feel strong, and capable of controlling my life. I can't thank you enough for everything you have done for me Katie! read more

Rick and the team in Austin have truly changed my life. Before finding Egoscue of Austin, I was living a poor quality of life due to chronic pain. In fact there were many times I wasn't sure I wanted to go on with life due to my condition. My pain started after having two surgeries that caused some serious muscle imbalances and compensation patterns that basically caused 24/7 pain and dysfunction throughout my body. After trying everything I knew to try (chiropractic, PT, accupuncture, deep tissue massage) and seeing countless doctors without any lasting results over a period of several years, I finally heard about Egoscue through facebook. It has been a journey, but throughout that journey, I've become aware of my postural distortions, imbalances, compensation patterns and have been able to correct them over time. I'm happy to say that because of Egoscue, I'm no longer restricted by what I'm able to do with my kids, my wife, friends, work around the house, etc and I'm back to the quality of life I desire. I'm confident I'll be back to the athletic activity that I also used to enjoy very soon. Thanks Rick and team for this HUGE blessing. read more

The staff at Egoscue Austin knows how to get you back on your feet and living life the way you are meant to live. I had never experienced back pain, but after 48 active years it caught up to me. I drove 1.5 hours to get to the Egoscue clinic and in a very short time, with experienced analysis and instruction from Rick and doing my e-cises each day, my back, my gait and my sense of well being have improved to better than I was before. I'm playing golf again, I have better shoulder range of motion, and my strength and confidence are returning. I recommend the Egoscue method and Egoscue Austin to everyone who wants to feel better, improve their physical performance and live a pain free life. What has impressed me is that I continue to show progress even after I thought I was "better". read more

i currently own and run Above And Above Detailing Services in Austin and its a very demanding job on my body.. all last year i was working out very hard at the gym and then working on cars all day.. usually spending 6 to 9 hours on every car. well after a while i overworked my body and developed Thoracic outlet syndrome ( basically cutting off the blow flow to my arms and causing extreme pain) i had to stop the gym all together and ease up on my working but it still was not getting any better.. i was icing my arms every night and one night i almost called 911 because my veins were throbbing and i was getting dizzy. RIck needed some detailing done on his car and i read about his egoscue treatment.and figured i would give it a try since i have tried everything else to ease my pain and i was trying to avoid surgery at all costs. so after he saw the work i do on these vehicles everyday he could see why i am in pain. after 24 hours of his treatment i already felt better... a week later about 85% and now i have full range of motion in my arms.. i can work and lift weights again. Rick and Theresa are very professional and you can tell they care about your health.. which is hard to come by these days. anyone that complains about an injury to me i immediately recommend them to this clinic. i am feeling much better now and cant weight to start hitting the gym again tanks again for all the help Donavin read more

I have been using the Egoscue exercises daily for almost two years now and I will continue for the rest of my life. This program is the answer to staying healthy, strong and pain free and able to maintain an active lifestyle. I am 67 years young and love the outdoors; so when I experienced hip and back pain two years ago, I tried everything to get pain free ( PT,Chiropractor, pain management, medication ) and back to my life style of playing tennis and snow skiing and to walking without pain. The only thing that worked was a complete evaluation of my posture and a daily Egoscue plan to exercise my body back into alignment.
