Get a second opinion. I had had a small growth on my left cheek which mildly bled after I had shaved and was sensitive to touch. I went to a dermatologist. He did a biopsy which showed it was squamous cell carcinoma. He stated I needed Mohs surgery. I looked at the reviews and it looked like Dr. Hendi was highly recommended. I had him do the Mohs surgery. It looked like he did a good job-though there is a small visible scar where he did the Mohs surgery. However, I was told by a dermatologist that there is always at best a small permanent scar after Mohs surgery. In a follow up visit with Doctor Hendi, he asked me if I wanted him to do the follow up skin checks. I said, "sure" it looks like you did a good job. He then stated, has anybody ever told you that you have a growth under the tip of your right nose? I said no, the right side of my nose and face has always been perfectly clear. He stated I need to do a biopsy, and that it would only take a few seconds. I let him do the biopsy. A couple of hours later, after I got home, one of his assistants called me and stated that Doctor Hendi has read the results of the biopsy and needs for you to come in and have another Mohs surgery, because the tip of your nose shows squamous cell carcinoma. I stated: how was he able to get the results so quickly? It has always been at least several days, before I see the biopsy results. She told me that he has his own in house lab in the office, and that he reads his own biopsies. She said: he only sends them to an outside lab if he has questions. I tell her no, I tell her,I will not have Mohs surgery at this time. I ask my wife and friends if they have ever seen any bumps or growths on my right nose or face. All say no. I make an appointment with my internist, and he too says he does not see anything there. I decide to get a second opinion from Johns Hopkins dermatology clinic in Baltimore. I show them Doctor Hendi's findings of squamous cell carcinoma and his recommendation for Mohs surgery. The two Hopkins dermatologists both concur that they see no squamous cell carcinoma, and that I do not need Mohs surgery. I believe Hopkins. They are one of the top medical institutions in the nation. However, I decide to get a third opinion from Chevy Chase Medstar dermatology clinic. That clinic is a block away from Doctor Hendi's office. I call Doctor Hendi's office and tell them to send that lesions slide allegedly showing that the tip of my right nose has squamous cell carcinoma to that Medstar dermatology clinic. I then call that Medstar dermatology clinic to let them know. The receptionist states that a lesion finding is not conclusive for squamous cell carcinoma without a physical examination of the site. I state fine, I will be glad to have their dermatologist do a personal exam of the site which is what I had Hopkins do. The Medstar dermatologist does so and states he does not see anything, but that he has not yet examined the lesion slide. However, he states that he is going to meet with several other dermatologists to jointly examine the slide and that he will call me. I also tell him what I told Hopkins-that I want to see the findings in writing. He agrees. I tell him I am only interested in two things: Is it squamous cell carcinoma as Hendi says and/or do I need Mohs surgery? He calls me back and states that he agrees with the findings of Hopkins. I then ask him two questions. If I had let doctor Hendi do the Mohs surgery (based on his and the Hopkins findings) would it have been unnecessary surgery? He said yes. I also state if I had had the Mohs surgery would there have been a small visible scar at best and at worst "who knows?" He stated yes. In his written findings the Medstar dermatologist states "it is likely that there is not currently an early {SCCIS} squamous cell carcinoma In SITU." I have always heard that there are only two certainties in this world : taxes and death. For me there is a third certainty: I will never go back to Doctor Hendi. read more

I brought my sickly grandmother to see Dr. Hendi. She had a skin cancer on her back. Me and my family were already very worried for her as she had many other health issues far more serious than the Squamous Cell on her back. Before I even entered the office I was calling all week to their office and everyone was soooo incredibly sweet and understanding. I was given a very detailed explanation of what the Mohs procedure entailed by one of his assistants and she told me what we should expect as a result. Dr. Hendi even called me one day to reassure me, to make sure that I was confident in my understanding of what my grandmother was coming in for. Off the bat I was very pleased with their professionalism and more importantly their kindness. On the day of my grandmothers procedure both Dr. Hendi and his assistant took the time to again explain to me and my grandmother what would happen that day. Also, the fact that they had wifi and cookies was just plain awesome! Dr. Hendi was calm, collected, and very funny. He had a wonderful way about him. My grandmother, who is very weak, even laughed which is something that I have not heard in a while. Dr. Hendi was prompt in starting the procedure and the assistant bandaged her up so we could wait for the lab processing (which took some time, but again cookies were awesome). Luckily enough my grandmother was cleared of her skin cancer in the first try. Dr. Hendi and staff explained to both of us in great detail how he was going to stitch my grandmothers wound. She had some pain the first night, but it was tolerated well with the pain regimen that the assistant told her to take. Fast forward one month later and the surgical scar is healing beautifully, I can hardly see it now. Even though it is on her back and no one will really see it, Im glad to know that his skill is flawless. My grandmother saw Dr. Hendi about 3 months ago, I regret waiting so long to write a review because this is a doctor who truly cares about his patients and he has a incredible amount of skill and dedication to his work. I had a great experience with Dr. Hendi as did my husband when we both had to have MOHS surgery this past year. Mine was more complicated as it was right above my upper lip. I did quite a bit of research prior to the surgery and honestly was pretty afraid of having it done, mostly because it was on my face. Dr Hendi was very kind, patient and did a good job explaining exactly what was going to happen. I spoke with him a few days after the surgery as I had some significant swelling and he was very reassuring. He told me it would take about four months for the area to not be noticeable to anyone except he and I and that was totally on target. With make up after two months it was hard for others to see anything. My lip line is exactly as it was before the surgery. The scar is very small and hard to see. The staff from the receptionist to the billing administrator to the nurses are terrific! A special shout out to Ashley (one of the nurses) who prepped me for the procedure and was there for both follow up visits. She was incredibly nice, very proficient with her work and helped to calm my fears. Dr. Hendi and his staff are professional, kind and experienced. read more

I'll start by saying I'm not a good patient. I'm nervous about getting any kind of work done. I had a cyst removed from just above my lip and it was a reasonably good experience which is saying quite a lot. From the communication prior to the appointment to the preparation for the surgery and then especially on to the surgery with Dr Hendi, everything was done very well. The assistant who prepared me for surgery stayed the entire time and he answered my questions patiently and made me feel more comfortable. When Dr Hendi came in to do the surgery, he talked me through what would be done and made sure I had the chance to ask questions. Everything went well and I was out of the office less than an hour after I arrived. They sent me home with a nice "What to expect" document which was very helpful. My follow up appointment a week later was more of the same. I cannot say enough good things about my experience. Dr Hendi even provides his cell phone in case there are any issues. I was referred to Dr. Hendi by my dermatologist because I had a growth on my temple that was quite large and painful. Turned out it was squamous cell carcinoma. It was removed by Dr. Hendi. I was surprised to see the pictures after the removal. There was a hole in my temple about the size of a penny. I ended up having 14 stitches to close the hole and the incision they had to make on both sides so that it could be sutured. I just removed the bandages today after 16 days and it looks pretty great. I was quite amazed. It only took one cut to remove all of the cancer. The whole experience was not near as traumatic as I had expected. The staff was awesome and extremely helpful. Everything that I needed to know for follow up was given to me in handwritten form so that all of my questions were answered. The waiting room with refreshments and free WIFI was definitely a plus. I had Mohs surgery performed by Dr. Hendi twice, once 6 years ago for skin cancer on my ankle and most recently last July, He was excellent both times and so were the nurses. The July surgery was on a small carcinoma on my face. I was in and out in less than 3 hours. Everything was explained by the nurse and by Dr. Hendi who is very personable and easy to talk to. He answered all questions and explained each step of the surgery. I was given an explanation on how to care for the incision afterwards, etc. I had a quiet room that I was in for the surgery and for the wait to have the incision checked. I would most certainly want to have him do the surgery if I have another bout of skin cancer. The signs of the surgery on my face have completely cleared up. The same on my foot, which was much more complicated because it could not be stitched. I feel very fortunate that my dermatologist recommended him. read more

Words cannot express my great appreciation for Dr. Hendi and his amazingly qualified staff. I'm a big baby. Needles and blood make me faint of heart. I am also a woman of colour and a girly girl. I had to have a cyst removed from my face. I was so worried about the pain and the scar I would have afterwards. Well, it's been about 5 weeks. My pain was minimal, my bandage has been removed and I barely have anything to show for my brief, but pleasant meeting this lovely man. Dr. Hendi and the staff of his office are the best! They really know what they're doing and gave me the best care I've ever received in the many different Dermatologists offices I've been to. I had two different atypical moles removed, and I had a beautiful result AND it's all gone- I don't have to worry about those bad moles coming back. Dr. Hendi kept me constantly informed of my options, of what he was doing. He has great bedside manner and really kept me relaxed. This is the most comfortable office I've ever been to- they even have coffe and cookies in the waiting room! The wait was very short, but the quality time with the Dr. was extensive. I had a rather large melanoma (in situ) on my face and was referred to Dr Hendi.I had never met the man and he was going to take off part of my face! It was scary. He was very calm and told me exactly what he was going to do, which involved extracting the site and then testing it to make sure all the edges were clear. I was lucky that he was able to get it all the "first cut". Then came the stitching up! The incision was from under the center of my right eye to down below my lip!
