Ordered the mix grill. I'm so disappointed by how low the quality has gone down. The first time I ordered from this place the adana kabab tasted like a real kabab. This time it tasted like kofta or hamburger meat. The chicken was not tender but had a stretchy texture. The only good thing about this meal was the lamb shish kebab. I felt sick the whole night from how greasy the food was. The owner is definitely going cheap on the ingredients which is always the wrong way to cut costs. 2 & 1/2 if I could. This place is small and cramped and the service is horrible. Waited 20+ minutes for the server to come to our table to give us the menus, another 5 for her to hand us water bottles, and 25 minutes for her to take our order. She barely speaks English and could barely understand us. The kabobs took about 15-20 minutes for it to come out. I ordered the chicken shish kabob (regular), my friend ordered the adana kabob, and my sister ordered the beef pide. My sister's food came out 10 minutes after the kabobs, and her food was served on a plate where the corners and some edges were chipped as well as the paint. Our food came out without the bread it was supposed to. Once we noticed, we had asked for it and she got it rather quickly. It came out soft, but cold. My food was good (4/5), but slightly cold. The tomato on my plate was extremely burnt, yet somehow it was as cold as a tomato you'd get out of a fridge. My sisters food was very nice (besides the presentation and potential health hazards) (5/5). The food still was not worth the price. The take out is probably better than dining in, still wouldn't recommend this restaurant. read more

The chicken kebab is really delicious, very juicy and cooked just right, although a little over priced when you get in the meal ($18). The lamb kebab is very chewy and hard to swallow, would not recommend this. One downside is that the delivery guy never actually brings you your food despite the $5 delivery charge, he has you come down and meet him outside, always giving a different excuse (can't find parking, have a lot of orders, etc) which kind of defeats the purpose of paying for delivery when you live down the block. read more

Wow, these folks can cook!! Their food is better than any restaurant in SoWa, and a far better value. Rice, salad, grilled tomato, grilled hot pepper and bread accompaniments were all so tasty that I couldn't finish my amazing kofteh. Thank you, Ali-B, for lunch the next day. A word of caution about their delivery service is that Ali Baba's delivery is so polite, pleasant and prompt that it raises the standard for delivery, and other restaurants' deliveries will become a dissapointment in comparison. I went to Istanbul in March and was looking up Turkish places in Boston, and found Ali Baba. We got Lahmacun once...it is a great deal. It does have a lot of spices and different flavors. My friend was eating it plain, and didnt like it. I told her to add the prsley, lemon, and onions. That is how it is meant to be eaten and she loved it. I love the chicken kabob meal. I had heard about this place from Turkish friends, especially praising their lahmacun (translated, I believe, as "lahmajun pizza" on the menu). I was skeptical since I had never been able to find authentic lahmacun outside Turkey. That all changed today with my first visit to Ali Baba. They seemed to make it from scratch and the flavour was just perfect. Rolling it up with the parsley and onion with a few drops of lemon that came on the side made it all the more delicious. I'd visit this place just for lahmacun but we also tried Adana kebab and pastirmali pide, which were also quite successful. My (American) wife loved them, too. The place is very hard to notice since the owner apparently also owns the Mexican place next door and the two places have a combined sign with the name of the Mexican place with a tiny writing of Ali Baba underneath. I'm not sure why they don't fix that. Prices are reasonable as well. Service was okay but this place really shines if you're mostly into just experiencing some of the authentic Turkish dishes. read more

This place is great! I ordered delivery from them at work, and I accidentally missed the delivery because I was stuck inside a lab with no reception. I called back, felt terrible, and he re-delivered my food after 20 minutes. He was so nice, I wouldn't have even cared if the food was bad. But the falafel wrap, grape leaves, and baklava I ordered are some of the best food I've had in Boston since I moved here. I ordered Lahmachun and waited 35 minutes to get my order. And nobody informed me about my lunch was late.

3.5 stars. Really good mezze mixed plate. Falafel not so good though... Small restaurant/fast-food type ambience.

After sitting down for 15 min our server arrived! Finally, after not asking for our drinks she went right to taking the orders when we asked her what was available she replied with "the menu is in front of you". 45 min after she took the order she came back saying that they did not have any meat or lahmajun which they are known for and she said that we can eat chicken. We did not get our drinks till we were almost done with our food. Then she told us that she did us a favor by bringing us bread when it's COMPLIMENTARY! The food we ordered to-go came the same time as our food so by the end of the night we had cold food. Check and the to-go boxes we wanted for the left over food were never brought to us. We had to go up multiple times to pay and for boxes. Me also being a server i know you make money from tips but you wont get good tips speaking rudely to the customer or not smiling. Our server was too busy so another lady who we didn't know had to come and ask if we needed something. At the end of the night, I had a horrible experience and I would never recommend it to anyone. i'm never going back there, thanks to your server that can't smile for her life read more

Their food is good Turkish food I would give them 4.5 stars for their food. But their service is just okay. I use to occasionally stop by for takeout. But I wanted to go eat dinner there one night. It was a busy night but we got a table. After we ordered another party was seated next to use and they order almost the same thing as we did. There was only 1 dish difference between our orders and there's. It's a small place so it was easy to overhear what they ordered. It seems the waitress mixed up the orders and overcharged us for a dish by $2. I pointed out the mistake and ask her to fix it but she kept telling me she couldn't fix it. That was not the right answer. All she had to do is credit me the $2. All she did was edit the receipt. When I got my credit card bill, the charge was still $2 more than what I should have paid. Really $2 is not the issue. The issue is they were careless about their service. She obviously couldn't keep the orders straight and then refused to fix her own error. In any other restaurant or store or even the bank, if you noticed an error even if it's a few cents they correct it. But this waitress's willingness not the correct the issue and then making me wait so she can look like she's fixing the issue was just not the way to deal with this situation. Now I don't trust them anymore and I won't eat there. If you're going to order 1 time or ordering take out, I guess you'll be okay but if you're going for a sit-down dinner on a busy night forget it. They'll confuse your bill with someone else's. I hate having to write a bad review but this just pissed me off. read more

It is the best turkish food in Boston. I can say it even tastes better that the foods that I ate in Turkey. I strongly recommend it. It is a small place so we prefer only delivery.. This Restaurant used to be my favourite (even though back then was a bit expensive for what I'm eating!!) , now they have raised their prices even higher! which is so funny I swear. I have seen the reviews from other people. It seems obvious that you guys have no idea about what good Turkish food should taste like. The truth is Boston doesn't really have a lot of good choices in Turkish food, and this place is a poser. The food looks the part, but don't taste the part. We ordered for beef pide today, only to be told that the chef was too busy to make it, and that we should order something else. Since we were too hungry to leave, we ordered two different kebab entrees, one chicken and one beef. I am giving it a second star for prompt and polite service. The food tasted like how a Russian guy imagines Turkish food would taste like. It's a small place where you will be ashamed to take your friends, with exposed kitchen and raw meat trays visible to paying customers. They even charged us for water. Really? If you want to provide food chart service, price your items like a food cart as well. Where they are charging $16 average for entree, this place disappoints. This place definitely does not deserve the 4 star rating that it currently has. read more

This place is a treasure! Right near Harrison Ave too, so head there after SOWA First Friday. I loved it but the real test was bringing my boyfriend, who is a chef and originally from the Middle East. He too was impressed and thanked the chef. This place is my go-to lunch spot in the south end of Boston. It is your typical hole in the wall and reminds me of all the fantastic food I ate in Turkey. My favorite things on their menu are the chicken shish kabob plate with bulgur, the red lentil soup, and lahmacun. I don't think I've ever bothered to order anything else so far. Oh and that pistachio baklava - don't over think it...just get it! I brought one of my coworkers who is originally from Turkey and he loved the food thought this place was very authentic. If you have any room left, get the çay ("chai" aka Turkish black tea) or wash it down with some ayran. They share ownership or have a partnership with the Mexican place next door (El Triunfo) so if you want to mix and match your food, you can! Service times are pretty quick depending on when you go and what you order. Also, they recently upgraded some of their dining furniture and replaced the chalkboard menu with TV screens with rotating photos of food. read more

I've probably ordered from this place for delivery around 15-20 times. Food is decent most of the time, sometimes actually really good. Especially their Mixed plate and Pides. If not for the last order I would've rated this place 3.5-4 stars instead. Their Pides have improved since I first started ordering from this place, they were really good the last couple of times I got them. I had the baba ganoush when I ordered with a friend a couple months ago and remember it being really good, so I decided to get the baba ganoush again along with a beef Pide and Mixed plate a few days ago. I wasn't even upset when I found a strand of hair in my mixed plate cuz it was pretty good(the actual food, not the hair lol), I was like meh.. shit happens. However... when it's bad.. oh man... it's inedible. The baba ganoush was the worst dip I've ever had, other than tasting completely burnt, there was no other flavor. I'm guessing the eggplants used were burnt. It was so bad that I ended up throwing it out after dipping into it twice. Second dip was cuz I honestly couldn't believe it to be so bad at first, had to make sure. Right now I'm reluctant to order any more dips from this place ever again.
