I just returned from Istanbul, where I found the food to be amazing, and so looked around Boston to see if I could find any Turkish food upon my return. I found Ali Baba. It looks like a little take-out deli with a few tables in the front, but don't let that fool you. The food tasted like it was right off the plane from Istanbul. Wow - super hidden gem, huh? I've never eaten Turkish but enjoy the flavors of the middle east... wait, I'm bad at geography. Is Turkey middle easy? Well, it had falafel so it must be. Order: Labne - yogurt with walnut and spices. Fantastic to dip their fresh warm bread into. Shepard salad - the win of the order. I'll be buying a large one of these every week to add to my lunch salads. Super fresh and flavorful. Falafel wrap - WICKED good. Better than South End pita. Cheesy Spinch fried roll up thingys - YUM! I've had better. They use store bought pita bread with the hummus. I have no qualms with store bought because that means either you don't have time to make it or don't know how. This is a restaurant that I expected given the cuisine to prepare everything from scratch. I was disappointed. The kabob meat was good, salad was Mediterranean what you'd expect but damn store bought bread. I was expecting naan bread freshly baked with garlic and olive oil. I was born and raised in Turkey but have been living in the US, and especially missing home recently because I haven't been able to go back for some time due to the pandemic. I ordered from Ali Baba on UberEats as a total shot in the dark, hoping they could provide me with something that reminded me of home, and boy did they deliver. We got a variety of things (grape leaves, combination meze, mixed grill plate, chicken kebab wrap, and even lahmajun) to share, and every single one of them hit the spot. I can't speak to the rest of the Middle East, but this place really makes food as you would have it in Turkey. Can't wait to order more from them, and dine in whenever everything opens up. I have been coming here for the past couple of years now because I am temporarily working across the street. Although very pricey for a meal, especially as lunch, the food is very good. I have had all of their different types of meat entrees and enjoyed all of them. Their portions are a good size/amount. The ambiance is more like a takeout place...very small. I recommend ordering through the app ahead of time as it takes a little time to prepare. I am giving this review 4 stars, and not 5, because of the pricing and a couple of hiccups in the past. For the business, if there is an issue of any kind, please contact the customer right away, instead of waiting until they show up (hungry or hangry). Reason for not rating higher than 3 star is because they switched the dessert without notifying me. The server should've called me before switching since they ran out of what I ordered. Being turkish I had bigger expectations from a turkish restaurant. No music, u can hear your own breathe, chicken adana is made up, adana kebab is made of beef or lamb or mix of both. This place is a hole in the wall, but boy, what a fantastic find! It's a very small restaurant with 4-5 tables that can probably seat 15-20 people inside. It's the type of place where it's better to go in small groups of 2-3 people. Your best bet is buying food for take out because they don't skimp on the portions. We ordered the chicken mixed grill and lamb mixed grill with a large side of baba ganoush and stuffed grape leaves. It will take about 25-30 mins to come out. What we ordered was good enough to feed 4 people. I really liked everything, except for the shish kabob parts of each dish, personally because I'm not a fan of shish kabob. The star of the meal was definitely the baba ganoush. I can still remember the smokey, creamy taste and I have been craving for this every single day since I ate here. The fact that I am taking time to write a review here after such a long yelp sabbatical says it all. Everything I had delivered was amazing. The combo mixed grill had adana, lamb, kofte, and they even three in some chicken. It was all good, but the Adana was the best. Lahmajun was a bit spicy but it's still all about the meat here. Shepherd salad is good-maybe not the best I've had in boston, perhaps could benefit from optional feta. Burma was a DELICIOUS way to end the meal. Also, the pita (didn't know I was getting!) is actually leavened, much more like lepinje. Yes, delivery and prices were a bit expensive, but I've got food for three days. Well worth it in a city bursting with greasy pizza and americhinese, and lacking in diverse hole-in-walls. So, so psyched. read more

This place is a hidden gem! It's located about a 10 minute walk from the orange line Tufts station so very convenient in terms of getting there. It's quaint- probably not the best idea for big parties. The food is phenomenal though! I was recommended this restaurant by my friend who is from Turkey so she told me what to get. The Chicken Kabob was phenomenal and the rest of the dish was very authentic and delicious. It was a great price for how big the meal was too! I think the coronavirus got this place like every other place. I went here the other night , the first time since the coronavirus started. I ordered the Donner sandwich, which is the Turkish version of the Greek Gyro. The whole thing was horrible. The meat was not cooked fully, not hot enough , and was tough anyway. The prices went up by about 50%. The service was good, the only thing that remained the same, or better. They went from a five star to a two star. And to top it off , I got a $100 parking ticket, for parking too close to the bus stop. I mentioned how challenging parking is in my first review. I'll let you know if I get food poisoning on the next update. I don't recommend anymore , especially during the busy dinner hours. However, The Mexican restaurant next door, which is takeout only, is very much worth it. It is delivery or pickup only , and you wouldn't have to park for very long. read more

This was the probably worst experience I had both with food and Deliver. We asked for a deliver on the midnight of nov 24 via the yelp app, and the deliver came the other day at 12:00. And no, it was not our fault. On the app, I still had more than a hour to place the order, and it was even saying the estimated time. Nonetheless it came just the other day. Yet, even with the deliver issue, I appreciate good food, and would never give 1 star for a deliver that gave me problem but had good food. I really wanted to like Ali Baba more considering it's right around the corner from my new apartment and I usually love Turkish food. Maybe it was just personal preference, but the babaganoush was too smokey (meaty tasting) for me, the hummus tasted too strongly of tahini, the spinach pie was deep fried/oily, and the bread was just kind of bland like a kaiser roll. I thought the stuffed grape leaves were pretty good. The highlight was definitely the baklava though, which might have been the best I've had. read more
