And they asked for cash as the "card reader is having issues". I'll only be paying this with a credit card, so that I get some consumer protection if they don't honor the 60 day warranty. Invoice Below: Diagnostic $89.99 (paid). 1st tech unclog+thermal paste Went from dead to turning blue. Confirmed not power button. $89.99 2nd tech tried breakthrough password but then wiped it. Still turned blue. Updated bios+system, virus scan, ram scan/test. $89.99. $269.99total w/ $179.99balance. I fully expect this to have fixed nothing. Based on the other reviews I have read, I shouldn't have brought a computer to a phone repair shop but that was my mistake. Next time try out geek squad, where they will "fix" the same thing for $180. I must look like a sucker, but I plan on paying these guys and then leaving this review everywhere I can so that anyone else looking for a computer repair is warned off, even if as the owner said "no one even looks at Yelp reviews anyway" And for reference: this computer refurbished costs $136 on eBay. I contacted the business online and received a text AND voicemail an hour or so later. When I called back and spoke to Steve, he and I had such a great conversation about computers. He gave me his address and I took the laptop to him. Imagine my surprise to receive a video by text only 20 minutes later, telling me his diagnosis! The hard drive was kaput. He said he could install a new one for me and we discussed some options about buying one. As it turned out, I recalled that I had purchased an extended warranty which would cover a replacement. So he thanked me for my business and said I could pick it up anytime. He gave me the student discount because the laptop actually belongs to my grandson, who is in 5th grade. :D And at $62.50 I am exceptionally happy. Found this business from a Yelp search. My computer hinge came apart. Winstonn communicated well,…read morevia text & call. And was flexible with me to be able to meet at his house & drop off my laptop. The issue was the left side hinge that someone came undone. He left me know he needed to order some screws and the updated price. Once he had the hinge "fixed" he didn't like the way the laptop screen now "stuck out". So he brought a new screen/backing for my laptop. Since he was not personally happy with the way it looked, he offered to buy me a new/used latop. I never saw it with the "poked out" screen but I would have rather kept my laptop. He said he would take some time and research for laptops of my specified specs. So, I said okay. Please let me know what you find before making any purchases. A few days later he calls and tell me that he opened up my laptop, saw water damage, and now miraculousy my laptop NO LONGER WORKS. The screen does not appear - even with external monitors, just black. This was very disappointing and frustrating. Laptop worked fine before I dropped it off, with the exception of the hinge that came undone. Not sure why he didn't check everything (atleast turning it on/off) in the beginning. I even asked if he wanted the power charging cord when I dropped off the laptop. Still dont understand why he would offer a new laptop and then a few days later say my laptop doesnt work and he's not going to replace my laptop. I paid $170 for the service & to get my laptop back, that is NO LONGER works now. Ultimately, I had to purchase a new laptop.
