On a lovely Spring night, a group of Yelpers descended upon Alfred's for G & Ts, ales and banter.
This new bar on the Peel Street scene is a welcome addition boasting a simple and casual vibe. The mood lighting inside and outside helped create a lovely ambiance which draws a younger crowd like moths to a flame.
My West Winds Broadside went down a treat, especially when the price was much more reasonable than that of Udaberri's. Massive tick as it is one of my go to poison.
Staff was not the most attentive from my brief experience which is why I am leaving a 3 star at this point in time. My wait for service was far too long for a bar that was not anywhere near capacity.
Another let down was the "unfinished" feel I received. A very obvious example being the lack of discreetness of the bathroom. The door when opened would allow a direct view to the crowd and vice versa. A funky screen would create a barrier, giving women a sense of privacy.
The grey walls doesn't rock my boat. It is seriously lacking a designer's touch or a better designer's finish.
I do like the space upstairs which has a vantage point for the lovers of people watching. The stools aren't the most comfortable, but if you go for aesthetics, practicality is usually compromised.
I would come back on a quieter night next time and compare.
