I tried to ask for more seasoning or if I could exchange the empanada but I wasn't able to. $3 for churros filled with a cream-like stuffing! I ordered the Vanilla cream and the Dulce de Leche churro, and they were warm, delicious, and very sweet! It's my first time having a stuffed churro, and I'm ecstatic I found this place on a chilly night. There was a crowd waiting for their churros, and they technically had closed their ordering already; however, I asked kindly if I could order churros before they closed their curtain. The worker kindly let me! Churros are my soft spot for desserts! These were crunchy but also had a very creamy, smooth center. Alexa's Empanadas has become a tradition for me at the Downtown Holiday Market. There was a line for the goods when we went on a Wednesday evening around 7pm, but the line moved quickly (approximately 10-15 minute wait). At my latest annual visit, we ordered the meat lover's empanada ($6), Jamaican beef patty ($5), and a chocolate-filled churro for dessert ($3) - fresh from the fryer and filled to order! They also offer Bavarian vanilla cream and dulce de leche fillings, but I gotta have my chocolate. The empanadas are an easy grab-and-go meal to walk around the market with. The Jamaican beef patty was nice and flaky, but the empanada was less flaky and more on the doughy/chewy side. Both had ample filling so that they didn't feel stingy. The churros are the standout and worthy of five stars. The churro itself is a warm, crisp treat, with the delicious holiday dusting of cinnamon sugar without being overly sweet. As a chocolate lover, the churro is not complete without its smooth chocolate filling. They load those churros up with the chocolatey goodness! It's not the holidays without these churros! read more

We are huge fans of their spinach and cheese empanadas. They are very flavorful and huge. I also appreciate that they aren't super greasy or overly cheesy. We've gotten their empanadas numerous times and they are very consistent. Since we are vegetarian, we haven't tried their other empanadas but they also look delicious. read more

Churros were gummy in the center. I would never order them again. Maybe it's because I live in CA and can get good churros. The empanada was just okay. The center was lukewarm at best. I would not eat here again. read more

Alexa's churros are very fresh and delicious!!!!! I thought it was a going to be an overpriced Costco churro, but you can tell that it was never frozen and not sitting out getting stale. There was a generous amount of cinnamon and sugar evenly distributed on my churro (Trust me...I've been given churros without any type of dusting). Tried Alexa's Empanadas at the Downtown Christmas Market and was blown away! The filled churros caught my eye, and the chicken empanada sealed the deal. I got a churro filled with vanilla sweet cream and a chicken empanada. The churro was heavenly--perfectly cooked, and the cream inside was so sweet and had a great vanilla flavor. I want to go back to the market just for that churro!! The empanada was delicious, too. I think they gave me a chicken curry one, but not totally sure. No complaints either way, the chicken was flavored well, tender, and so tasty. What impressed me the most was the dough--perfectly flaky and chewy at the same time, and tasted so good with the chicken. I might be making another trip downtown just to eat here again! read more

I used to have to wait until Christmas each year to enjoy these churros in DC. Now I can just go to Eastern Market on Sunday's and enjoy them! So happy - so delicious. The only filling I haven't tried is the vanilla cream but the chocolate and dulce de leche are delicious. However, my favorite is just the simple unfilled churro. read more

Durring a winter festival in Chinatown I had their dulce de leche churro and it was the most heavenly thing ever!

That chicken empanada gave me life!!! I selected chicken because if they can make dry chicken tasty I knew it was the real deal and it was! Flavorful, savory, tasty goodness. I found it at the Market by Gallery Place. I also got a Dulce de leche stuffed churros. Also delicious! Both items were warm and I'm wishing I got more. Price is right!!! read more

My friends and I wanted to visit the Christmas market and I could not pass up a churro. I got the dulche de leche churro and it was the best churro I've ever had hands down. The filling was so sweet and the churro was the perfect amount of crunch and sweetness. One churro was $3 which was a little pricey, but it's pretty large. I first experienced Alexa's at the Holiday market. The churros are amazing. Each flavor tastes incredible. The empanadas are also great.

Very happy with my order. I got there right at opening, and there were only a couple in line ahead. They didn't have the churros made up yet, but I got an alfajores cookie that changed my life. It was so good I want to find a recipe and try myself. It's a sandwich cookie with dulce de leche in the middle. I had the coffee and it was better than I expected/not burned at all. I'd rate it as very good. Super happy with that. Then I had one so spinach and one chorizo empanada. Both good but not as life changing as the cookie and coffee. But I'm a serious sweets person so that's probably why. If I had a chance to go back, I'd get one chicken and one beef, another coffee, alfajores AND two churros!!!! FYI empanada is $6 each, cookie is $4 but big and the coffee is $4 but again it's very good. read more

The empanadas (beef, chorizo, and jamaican chicken curry) are okay (4 or fewer stars), but the churros (chocolate filled - haven't tried the others) are AH - MAAAAA - ZING (more than 5 stars). I visited this food stand at eastern market on the weekend. They have fresh empanadas and churros. I had a dulce de leche churro it was warm fresh and delicious. It was the perfect amount of sweetness that was required for a weekend full of walking. This market is only on the weekends so I'm sure their location will change but they should be in this general area where the streets close. They take cash or credit cards.
