Best burritos in DC. I walk from Navy Yard to eat here on weekends, that's how good they are. Must have eaten here over 50 times. I don't do the breakfast ones because I'm just conceptually not a breakfast burrito guy. But the lunch burritos have nothing to envy any burrito in California, Arizona or New Mexico despite the protestations of some from SoCal or AZ who would never admit such a thing. The fresh squeezed lemonade is great too. The guys who run it are great. I order in Spanish. They're friendly. And they remember you. There's no protection from the elements eating there but that's the only downside. read more

Okay so an AMAZING Mexican burrito joint was not what I was expecting to find after taking a stroll through the Eastern Market in DC. I've lived in Mexico City and grew up on the SW border so needless to say, I'm very critical about what others call "good burritos." Well, I can confirm...this are GREAT burritos! After speaking with the staff - from the Mexican State of Puebla - I went with their most popular, the #2, chorizo and egg breakfast burrito. They serve breakfast all day. It did not disappoint! Huge portion, homemade beans, good quality chorizo...I couldn't have asked for more; but I did! El Piquin has a booth at the Brookland farmers market on Saturdays. They make fresh to order lemonade and orange juice. I ordered an orange juice. After she was juicing the oranges, she topped off the juice with sugared water. I asked her if it is sugar water, and she said yes. I told her I don't want any added sugar in my fresh squeezed orange juice especially as I would like to give it to my 18 month old son. She then proceeded to say no it's just water. However, I watched her make another customer lemonade. After she squeezed the lemons, she used the same pitcher of sugared water to mix the fresh squeezed lemons. Thus, making the lemonade. I pointed that out to her but she continued to state it was just water. This added to my disappointment. I was very disappointed that she would lie to me about using sugared water and continue to lie. If that is their receipt, fine but it needs to be communicated. But don't lie to me about not using sugared water in my orange juice. Also, when expressing my concern and saying I'm not going to accept this, it would be nice to offer me an other option (as in refund or to make me an orange juice without added sugar). As a business in the food industry, you must be factual in what is added into your products. Especially with allergies and people's choice in diet. This really is not acceptable. read more

I have been eager to find a good authentic breakfast burrito in DC, having been from Arizona where the Mexican food is phenomenal, I have yet to find a place here that even compares. After reading the high reviews at el piquin, I was certain I had found that place in DC but that was not the case. I was very disappointed that it was a total let down. I am a chorizo breakfast burrito fanatic, so I obviously chose their top chorizo breakfast burrito and it was mediocre at best. It was also very small compared to some of the pictures I've seen in reviews but perhaps they were running low on ingredients. The chorizo was decent, it has an interesting spice to it but it wasn't spicy. I believe they are at eastern market (near the William Rumsey Aquatic Center) on saturdays and sundays. You have to try them out! I am eternally grateful that this breakfast burrito/savory and sweet crepe stand makes the trek out to Courthouse plaza to make countless people happy with their delicious burritos and crepes. There is always a line, but it always goes quick because the guys behind the stand work FAST. For anywhere from $8-$10, you get a huge but satisfying portion and countless topping combinations - bacon, chorizo, eggs, cheese, and a nice smattering of veggies to round out your most important meal of the day. All you have to do is mention the number you want and they cook it right in front of your eyes! crepes are perfectly cooked, and although I've never tried their burritos I eye them enviously hand off giant burritos to other clientele. The boxes come steaming because that's how fresh they are. They've also got a great cooler full of delicious sauces you have to add to your container. They also get to know their regulars pretty well and I'm dying to become one of them! My suggestion is the #21 - it comes with pico, spinach, egg, chorizo, cheese, and salsa verde I think! Honestly, in the DMV it's really hard to find a good breakfast burrito place especially when I've been spoiled by west coast Mexican food, but this place can rival with the best of them. It's hard to describe how phenomenal these guys are. They are located at Eastern Market in front of the aquatic center on North Carolina Avenue every Saturday and Sunday when it is not raining (or, um, pandemic-ing), 52 weeks per year. The quesadillas and the breakfast burritos are the stars of the show - heaping piles of chorizo or meat of your choice, all cooked fresh in front of you. I've also had the tacos, which are the best in the neighborhood, though Taco City DC gives them a run for their money. They also have individual self-servings of sour cream and homemade hot sauce and salsa verde. If they bottled the hot sauce I'm not sure I would ever use another condiment - it is that good. It sort of boggles my mind there are not any reviews for them on Yelp, given they are usually pretty busy and have been at the market for a few years now. Do yourself a favor and go. read more
