Came here this past Tuesday night for pasta night with my friend and it was a good experience! The interior was designed really well and the outdoor seating where we sat had a movie playing outdoors so the vibe was really nice. We did come on pasta night, which is a busy day for them so it was indeed crowded. However, we had reservations so after I inevitably spun the block for parking, it was swift to check in. I got one of their signature pastas for the night which was their lemon ricotta crema. It tasted fresh, it was flavorful, and they came around to grate fresh parmesan which was a nice touch. I would like to come back and do the whole "build your own pasta" but I was worried my bowl would've been really pricey since each add on was around $2-$3 and I like a lot of toppings. read more

We've been coming to Alexander's on 30th for years and years, and one of the reasons we've continued to return is that the experience has always been fairly consistent. I'm in town for a long weekend with family and was excited to share one of my favorite SD spots with them... Unfortunately, our most recent visit on a Sunday evening was really disappointing. The restaurant wasn't particularly busy, yet from the moment we walked in, we felt rushed. They were out of several menu items, which I can understand at the end of a weekend. We ordered a nice bottle of wine, which our server opened and poured, but she never returned to refill our glasses. Our water glasses weren't refilled, no one checked on how our meals were, and there was essentially no service or attention throughout dinner. When we brought this up at the end of the meal, our server removed one entrée from the bill, which we appreciated. However, there was no attempt to recover the experience beyond that. We weren't offered dessert, which we would have happily ordered and paid for. What bothered me most was the response when I asked why she hadn't checked on us. Rather than acknowledging the lack of service, she became defensive and explained that she was busy. The entire section across from us had been empty all evening. She then said she was busy on the other side of the restaurant. Perhaps that was the case, but we also didn't see a manager, assistant manager, or support staff stepping in to help. I'm not expecting perfection, and I understand that restaurants have off nights. But when you're dining at a restaurant you've supported for years, ordering a nice bottle of wine and looking forward to an enjoyable evening with family new to the restaurant... basic hospitality shouldn't be too much to ask. The disappointing part wasn't the unavailable menu items or even the missed service. It was the rushed atmosphere, the lack of attention, and especially the defensive response when we tried to address it. I hope this was an isolated experience, because Alexander's has been a longtime favorite. But this visit fell well short of what we've come to expect. read more

I really wanted to like Alexander's. Their concept with their pizza mondays makes it for a fun evening in a such a cutely designed interior. We had a reservation for 6. We sat down pretty instantly which was great. Our waiter was friendly and explained everything on the menu pretty thoroughly. He mentioned pizzas would take about 40min which was fine. We ordered a few appetizers: the Brie and bread, bruschetta and the garlic bread. Those came out sporadically and tasted pretty good. Now for the pizzas. I took a bite of mine and it was like chewing cardboard. It was so hard and overdone that I couldn't even eat another slice. These slices were also tiny and thin so you'd figure it shouldn't be too hard to eat. I looked over at my friends and unfortunately two of them felt the same way. We just kept chewing and I felt like I was getting a defined jawline with all my chewing lol. We then lost our waiter for a good portion of the dinner. When we tried to pay we gave our card to another staff member since we couldn't find our guy. When our guy came back, he gave us the check we paid since we wanted to leave but then we had to chase down the initial staff member who we had given one of our cards to. Visited last night with a large group of 15+ people on what already be a very busy night ($8 pasta night) and our server, I believe his name was Jesse, was absolutely WONDERFUL! We did make this reservation very far in advance for a birthday celebration, but we were seated promptly, every staff member we encountered was beyond friendly, and the food was delicious! What's as most impressive is that everyone's food came out essentially at the same time , all of it hot and it all looked fab! I picked a pasta with the vodka sauce and a couple additions and truly enjoyed it, the spicy Caesar was also delish! The ambiance on the patio seating is not to be missed, they even play old movies on the wall once the sun goes down. Where has this restaurant been all my life! Coming here on a Monday or a Tuesday is a no brainer for a foodie on a budget! You practically get fed authentic Italian dishes for free. The restaurant is stunning, with beautiful candles, fresh flowers on every table, and a gorgeous waterfall outside. They normally play movies during dinner. Been here multiple times for both their Monday Build Your Own Pizza Night and Tuesday Build Your Own Pasta Night. Both nights feature $5 glasses of house wine and $2 beers. I personally prefer Pasta Night. My favorite dish is the Lemon Ricotta Signature Pasta. They also offer deals on select appetizers and salads. I highly recommend trying the cheesy garlic bread, Rustico Salad di Casa, and the beet goat cheese salad. I also love that I can enjoy a meal out with friends while staying lowcarb by ordering a salad topped with a side of protein. They offer both indoor dining and outdoor patio dining in the back. Their patio is super charming and decorated with romantic string lights, making it a great spot for date night. Didn't love the bathroom situation; there are 2 bathrooms but they aren't really next to each other and there's not a lot of room to wait so it was a bit awkward to stand in the middle of the hallway and in front of other tables while waiting. Really enjoyed our anniversary dinner here! Came on a Wednesday about 20 minutes earlier than our reservation time and got seated right away. We were able to find easy free street parking no problem about a block away around 6:30pm. The host and our waitress were lovely. We received complimentary garlic bread to start. The absolute star of the show was the lasagne, it was so flavorful, delicious, and filling! The vodka bolognese was what I was most excited about, but my preference for vodka sauce is creamier and thicker so it sticks to the noodle, where this was pretty thin and seemed to slide off for the most part. Once the sunset, it was SO dark in the restaurant. I wanted to pick around the mushrooms in the vodka bolognese, but literally had to turn on my phone flashlight because I couldn't clearly see in front of me without it. Only other note is we did select the option when making the reservation to indicate that it was our anniversary, but there was no mention of it in any way shape or form. With an appetizer or two, the two pizzas were enough for our group of six. There are no reservations on Monday and Tuesday for pizza and pasta nights so the wait was about 45 minutes but if you plan to walk around North Park for a while or get a drink elsewhere while you wait it can work out fine. My high school daughter and her boyfriend had a 6:30 PM 8/8/26 reservation at Alexander's on 30th. I personally dropped them off right in front of the restaurant at exactly 6:30 PM. Unfortunately, they did not receive their food until 8:12 PM, almost two hours after their reservation time. I understand that restaurants can get busy, especially on a Saturday night, but waiting nearly two hours for food when you have a reservation is unacceptable. What disappointed me even more was that they are both high school students, and I felt that they were not given the same level of attention or service that adult customers would expect. I would not recommend this restaurant for younger diners going out on their own based on the experience my daughter and her boyfriend had. Made a reservation at 5pm. We were the first and only people in the restaurant as it was opening time to be fair. Nobody there and we were a seated next to the two out-of-order bathrooms. Floors were covered in food debris from night before. Forks were dated, filthy, and not proper size for a semi-upscale place. Salad and dinner forks were same size. I got food poisoning from the penne in pink sauce. Yay. Tasted like the Heavy cream was expired. Server was nice and that's about it. Got to listen to staff in back cussing and gossiping. Not a pleasant experience. Paid $100 for food borne illness. I'm sure this place was great once upon a time, but needs a major overhaul in management, decor, and cleanliness. I have worked in the industry and at an upscale Italian restaurant in Portland, OR. This place gave second-hand embarrassment vibes pretty bad. Overall, it's a great neighborhood gem with lovely ambiance, reasonable prices (especially with those specials), and solid Italian-American eats. We came for dinner on a weeknight and made a reservation for a birthday dinner. The inside is so cute and romantic! There's a small parking lot in the back and seating on back patio too. Service was a bit slow through the night but the host and other folks did come by when our server didn't. We ordered two pastas and they were good. The mushrooms in the baked vodka bolognese were our favorite. It was nice of them to comp the bday dessert. Overall a cute neighborhood spot with a fairly priced menu. read more

So I really wanted to go to their Tuesday night pasta and wine deal, in order to do this I have to make a reservation 3 months in advance. One Tuesday I tried to be a walk in and I was surprised that the reactions were so far out, and they could reserve my spot at the podium, I had to go online and check every single Tuesday individually until I found a Tuesday with an open reservation. So I had pretty high hopes for this place, and honestly it was pretty basic. I didn't find the pasta dishes to be anything special. Also the base price for the pasta with a basic red sauce was $8 and then each topping added cost extra. I wasn't expecting that but I guess I should have believed the deal sounded too good to be true. I ended up adding 3-4 topping to my dish and it came out to the price of a regular pasta dish. The customization was fun but I wouldn't say it was too much cheaper. The one thing that did stand off out to me was their beet and goat cheese salad! I loved how big the beet chunks were and it was so refreshing, highly recommend it. The ambiance was fine, they lit a lot of candles so the restaurant was pretty dark. Aside from the head lights that shined through the window from the street. They were going for elevated ambiance but I wasn't sure it was quite there. The tables were pretty close together, and it felt a little squished. The wait staff was nice, we accidentally ordered the wrong wine and they were nice enough to change it out for us without any question. As for parking, it is street parking so make sure you get there with plenty of time before your reservation! read more
