I actually visited here a while ago but forgot to leave a review. Service was friendly and I think the prices are actually pretty good, getting pasta elsewhere is so expensive nowadays. My husband ordered the spaghetti with marinara and meatballs, and I ordered the bolognese with pappardelle. The portion was pretty big, and they gave us bread too. Pasta was well cooked. I wasn't feeling the seasonings in the bolognese very much though and preferred my husband's spaghetti and meatballs, but I think it's just personal tastes. I think I would enjoy another flavor more so I would be open to trying other items on the menu. I hope this pasta place does well! I really think the neighborhood benefits from a place like this. read more

I'm so sorry, I know you're a brand new restaurant, and I know you are just beginning. But I can not lie 2 U. I actually care. Hillcrest is a tough court to play on. I've seen so many establishments go under, particularly in Hillcrest. Good luck. Honestly, nothing personal. Nice lady at the counter, barely okay parking. Clean with plenty of nice outdoor seating. Make your own pasta bowl, essentially. They just opened, and I just wanted to get a small taste. So the meatball appetizer comes to the table four to the order with two pieces of bread served to you in a paper bag while at the table, no dish or bread plate, a paper bag???? I was dining in why the bag. ($7.45 w/tax) The meatballs were nuked and quite salty, not baked, more like mushy, and I could not digest it, so I threw them away. Also served with two slices of bread, which arrived at my table refrigerator cold, so the nice lady kindly nuked that too 4 me. No Fettuccine Alfredo. If you want to make it to December, you'll seriously need to step up your game. I've seen so many establishments go under, particularly in Hillcrest. read more

Pastiamo opened recently and now occupy the space in Hillcrest which was formerly held by Kiki Sushi in this strip mall. Free parking in the lot can be challenging. Pastiamo is a branch of its OG restaurants Pastiamo and Oltre Mare both located in Pacific Beach. These restaurants do serve fantastic pasta dishes and I was excited to see this restaurant open but my excitement turned to disappointment when I saw the menu offering only a fraction of options. One of my favorites at the parent restaurant is seafood pasta and that's no offered here :( This restaurant is not fancy, but of all the eateries in this plaza, this restaurant does have indoor and more outdoor seating. All foods served in disposable paper containers and togo packaging. Order and pick up at the counter. Only one person working behind the counter, who needs more training about menu details and can be more cordial in terms of service. The atmosphere and vibe here is very basic and the ambiance is dull. I hate eating from paper containers and I've only ordered takeout and later plate the food. The Burrata with cherry tomatoes was good, but I had to add more olive oil and seasoning. The pasta dishes are also good. I've tried the rigatoni with marinara sauce added more parmesan cheese and chili flakes. Missed taking a pic of the pasta with pesto sauce but I added toasted pine nuts and fresh basil was also good. Every pasta dish lacked flavor and needed to be enhanced. If pasta with nothing fancy is what you crave and you're on the go, this pasta shop is probably for you. read more

love this newly opened location just as much as the other one! there are much more parking spaces in the lot and there is both outdoor and indoor seating. i got the pesto pappardelle with parmesan and the taste / quality across both locations is very consistent. the owner that greeted us was also super friendly and you can tell that he has a passion for what he does. i went on a late saturday evening and it wasn't packed at all. definitely a very underrated pasta spot; the surrounding area is quiet and seems to be pretty safe. i will absolutely be coming back for more! read more

PARKING: Small lot shared with other businesses within the plaza. SERVICE (5/5): The owner was so friendly and laidback. He rang me up quickly and had my order ready within 15 mins for pick-up. FOOD (4/5): I got the bolognese sauce with the pappardelle, which came with a side of free bread. The portion size was perfect. The bolognese sauce was solid, but what stood out to me the most was their in-house made pappardelle. The pasta noodles were incredibly fresh and uniquely thin (like borderline razor thin), which lent itself to a silky and bouncy texture that I've never experienced with pappardelle at other Italian places before. OVERALL: Given that it's in Hillcrest, you're getting very high quality pasta at reasonable prices (from what I've seen within the surrounding area, pasta will run you at least $25, pre-tip ... except here). I hope this place gets more customers! If you're at Uncle Biff's Cookies, please consider walking a few doors down to your right to give it a try. read more

WOW. Stopped for lunch and glad we did, service was quick and so nice. Perfect weather so we sat on the covered patio. We started with the meatballs and burrata. Both were perfectly portioned, fresh, and beautifully presented. I ordered the pesto with fusilli which was bright, cheesy, and incredibly fresh from the homemade pasta (made fresh every morning) to the basil pesto sauce. As I told these guys who work here, this pasta tastes even better than the one that my Italian grandma cooks. Their bolognese with mushrooms is a culinary staple. The flavors are rich and savory. I was visiting the city and I ate here twice! On top of the delicious food I got to meet Manuel who is a fun, sweet angel from Milano. Delicious mushroom pasta! I have the pappadeaux with the mushroom sauce and I could not stop eating it it was so good. There was no one in there because they're new and I think nobody knows they're open I wouldn't have known if I didn't walk past it going to Uncle Biff's cookies. There was a nice Italian gentleman standing in the doorway who offered me some information and a coupon and I came the next day. It looked good and very affordable. It's not a fancy date night place but it's definitely good for takeout. You can buy the fresh pasta for $3.50 and use your own sauce. The menu says that the carbonara is made with bacon and I was going to choose that but I decided I wanted guanciale. After I ordered I was chatting with the gentleman there who was not the Italian guy, he assured me it was in fact guanciale, so they might want to change that name on the menu. Guanciale is not the same as bacon it's a thousand times better. Anyway now that I know that I'm definitely going back and getting the carbonara. read more

Bolognese (hands down the crowd pleaser) 3. Carbonara (my favorite! And I'd double the meat next time) 4. Misto Fungi (definitely good, if you're into that kinda thing. We visited Pastiamo this evening for some tasty pasta. I had the yummy pesto sauce and my husband had the meatballs and tomato sauce. We also ordered the burrata. This location has recently opened so there weren't too many regulars there at 7:30 on a Tuesday night, but the man who took our order and served us was very nice, friendly and helpful. We have visited their sister restaurant in Pacific Beach, Oltre Mare and enjoy the same level of food. I'm looking forward to them growing their base at this location, you can eat at the restaurant or take the pasta home to eat immediately or cook later. Such convenience and choices. My boyfriend & I visit SD often for padres games & are always looking for new hidden gems. The owner was welcoming people outside when we pulled into the parking lot & that is what caught my eye . The pasta itself is really good. U can tell it's made in house. But..... the dishes are really basic. There's no chicken. The bolognese is decent. The most expensive dish, the carbonara was really disappointing. A few pieces of bacon, but otherwise, it literally tastes like a fettuccine Alfredo. At $18, and it's not a large serving, with a few pieces of bacon.....that's why it's 3 stars. Hillcrest is known for places closing down really fast and I wonder about this place. read more
