Socarrat
Ben T.

I got a reservation pretty quickly for the same day through open table! The environment was awesome! We were on the roof top, so expect walking up a bunch of stairs if you want to be on the roof. The rice paella was good- nice crunch in the outside and balanced flavors. The steak had nice flavor, but it was very chewy. The steak knives they provided also were difficult to cut. Overall, it was a good dining experience. I would just pass on the steak next time.

If you're in the Roma Norte area, I highly recommend checking out Aleli Rooftop! It's gorgeous and offers such an intimate setting. After ordering our mezcal cocktails, we opted for the flatbread as our starter - I still dream about the soft and flavorful bread to this day! We weren't sure what to expect once we ordered the Socarrat, but we were pleasantly pleased with how well the fish paired with the paella styled rice! Absolutely stunning!! We reserved this dinner to celebrate our anniversary and when we inquired about dessert we were surprised with the infamous burnt cheesecake - how sweet! It was a delicious way to end the meal. Definitely worth checking out this establishment

My group of friends and I were able to grab reservations last minute for this beautiful restaurant. There was 8 of us and we were able to order multiple appetizers and entrees so we could share and try everything. Cocktails were super fresh and light. Our server started our meal with an array of salsas and a fresh nopales salad. I loved these salsa so much, I used them throughout the meal. The birria flat bread was comfort food at its finest. Definitely had a kick to it. Fish aguachiles with plums was perfection. The rib eye quesadillas were tender and I loved the chared cheese inside. I ordered the steak with chimichuri and my husband ordered the paella with shrimp. Both entrees were cooked perfectly and the overall presentation of every dish was beautiful. We then got burnt cheesecake and cornbread to end the meal. I loved them both but I think if I had to pick, the cornbread was so unique, I'd go back and order that again in a heartbeat. The experience was awesome and I can't wait to go back

Beet margarita ... too much beet for me
Larry S.

I guess I had higher expectations from this place since it's a Michelin bib gourmand. The service was mostly what needed improvement. It took some time for the waitstaff to come and ask about drinks or anything, and the place was not at all close to capacity. The beet margarita was just ok. The color was beautiful but it really hid the tequila, which if you don't like to taste your liquor, I guess that's ok but not for me. The socarrat camarones was a stand out, I'd have to say. I'm very picky with paella and this one concerned me a little when it came out. Instead of coming in a cast iron pan, it's a rectangle of rice on your plate with the protein on it. I was pleasantly surprised that it had a sufficient crunch (although I wouldn't complain with more) and great flavor. It's also quite filling despite the smaller size. The wait staff never checked to see how everything was going and never even asked me if I wanted another drink, so I didn't bother. I had to make it obvious that I was done and done to have the waiter come and say anything to me. Despite my better judgement I also ordered the "famous" grilled cheesecake. Unfortunately, it was just cheesecake. Yes, it does have a black top (cause it's grilled?) but there was nothing noteworthy about it. The blackberry compote they served with it helped with the flavor, though. If the service was better, I think I could have forgiven some of the misses but because of it, I'd have to recommend to skip this when visiting CDMX

This is a very nice restaurant - both the low light part downstairs and the open air rooftop upstairs. There really is NOT a view, the rooftop is encased by walls. It's not a big area either but nonetheless it is cozy space. I ate at the bar and could see the chefs cooking which was nice. I was actually quite full when I arrived at my reservation time since Id had lunch reservations and happy hour drinks beforehand. Nonetheless I wanted to try the food -- I got the passion fruit margarita and the Socarrat because I wanted something with flavors of Mexico. I really liked the ceviche on top of it, the rice but itself was heavy and a bit oily so it was hard to finish being full as I was, but I did like the flavor (not enough to readily seek it out again, though). The marg with spiced rim was very good though, I would definitely go for drinks again! The servers were kind and helpful and one spoke English quite well so he was especially helpful to me. Overall when I go back to Mexico I myself won't be coming here again since there are so many incredible looking other places to try (and places I already LOVE), but if someone asked if this was a good spot, my answer would be yes.

We loved the delicious dishes on this open rooftop! Our first proper meal in CDMX and after travel. Service was incredible poignant and gracious. We LOVED the seafood paella w chicharrons. The auguachile dish is a must! Overall the experience was excellent and we enjoyed a yummy basque cheesecake for our birthday dessert. :)

Mussels with flatbread

We came here for a nice dinner and was sat at the rooftop patio! The rooftop space was great! Nice and open. For the skewers, Shrimp skewer was the best. The shrimp was super fresh and lightly seasoned to showcase the shrimp flavors. Pork belly and mushroom skewer was good. The baby octopus with potato and sausage was okay. The mushroom pizza was so so. It has too much cheese for my taste. The bbq sauce was overpowering other flavors. The mussels with flatbread was great! Definitely one of the highlights of the evening. The BBQ corn was very delicious but I could use less bbq sauce again. Overall, the menu has good design but just doesn't quite execute the way I was expecting.

Pork belly taco, yellowtail, grilled shrimp. All fantastic!

Wonderful food, excellent service. The steak was truly exceptional. We also had some great mocktails!

On our last day in CDMX we decided to come here for dinner as it was close to our Airbnb. It's a rooftop restaurant with a beautiful hipster vibe with lots of plant's decorated on the walls. We were the only customers here because it was Sunday and the whole staff was very attentive to us. Service was fantastic and the food was out of this world. From the drinks to the fresh seafood I couldn't have asked for anything more. All the dishes we were was delicious and flavorful. Our favorite is the skewers and the paella. Would recommend to everyone, a little on the pricy side but worth it

A hidden gem in cdmx! Genuinely one of the best meals and drinks I've had here. Adorable rooftop area and impecable service. The pan with mussels is a must and the rice dish was incredible. I bring everyone here!

What a great find. Seating at 3rd floor rooftop for grilled dishes. Get the mix skewer app. The short rib skewer was best, smokey, tender goodness. Cocktail were OK. Chicken was well made, moist, great char. I want to go with a group for the ribeye and pulpo. A bit unusual is its dog friendly. They were all well behaved, but all that meat grilling could drive one crazy!

We then kicked things off with the arancini, which set the tone right away--crispy, flavorful, and perfectly done. For mains, we shared a spread and honestly couldn't pick a favorite: the Octopus Tacos were tender and packed with flavor, the Rabbit Tacos were unique and delicious, and the roasted seasonal vegetables "al mojo de ajo" were simple but so satisfying. The marinated pan-fried salmon and fresh trout were both beautifully cooked and thoughtfully seasoned. Every dish felt intentional, beautifully presented and well executed. But the real showstoppers were the desserts. The fresh goat cheesecake with orange, grapefruit, and lemon was bright and perfectly balanced, and the whisky chocolate crème brûlée was rich, smooth, and unforgettable. Desserts truly knocked it out of the park. Bonus points for the cocktails--my hubby was a huge fan. Great food, great drinks, excellent service and relaxed ambiance made for a wonderful overall experience. Highly recommend adding Temporal to your Mexico City dining list.

That said, I really appreciated how clearly those items were labeled--it set expectations upfront and made ordering easier given our schedule. The space itself is beautiful with an open, airy ambience that immediately sets the tone. We were started off with complimentary crispy tortillas served with both red and green salsas--a simple but very welcome touch. For food, my kids ordered the lime soup and the penne al chipotle, both of which they really enjoyed. My husband and I went for the tortas: he chose the Bacalao a la Veracruzana and I had the Cangrejo de Concha Suave. Both were delicious, with a unique twist on the classic flavors. My husband also had a cocktail that he loved. Overall, a solid experience with great food and atmosphere. This is definitely a place I'd return to when I can slow down and savor it properly.

The first time we came in shortly before closing but they were more than accommodating and sat us down right away. This is a fine dining experience and it is really cool to be able to watch the kitchen and chef at work from your table. I can highly recommend the Guac- love the little touch of pomegranate and the variety of chips to dip, the chicken lime soup was a hit with our 1.5 year old, the beet salad was delicious and the sea bass cooked to perfection. For mothers day I treated myself to a house margarita and it was delish. We also tried not one but two desserts this time, the chocolate cake with ice cream and the soursop jelly, both divine! I was excited having just learned about the soursop fruit, and how many nutritional benefits there are- make sure you give it a try if you're into pudding desserts. The next time we tried some of the same things and some new things- steak, roasted chicken, cauliflower with mole sauce (the mole sauce here was perfection) mushroom soup and the house lemonade. All fantastic, and the presentation is wonderful. We ended the evening with the hot chocolate cake which was the perfect balance of chocolate paired with ice cream- note that this dessert does take some time to prepare fresh. Planning to come back here if I am ever in the area again!

As you order, they give you a number, the waiters help you get a place to sit. You canoot sit anywhere even if you are waiting to order. We tried that, and they asked us politely to move. After we ordered, the line got long. I heard the waiter tell the person who waited in line that it would be approximately 30 mins until they'd order, they stayed in line anyway. So i'm like hmmmmm, must be that good. I personally thought it was an average taco. I didnt really taste much different then other tacos. They were good. We got another round of the chicharron taco. You really cannot go wrong with any taco stand. The restaurant itself was a little busy but quick service. Not too loud, enough to converse. I would recommend to try it out & give your own opinion.

Beyond that, everything was shockingly mid! To start, we had the tuna and shrimp tostadas, which were quite good. As our main course, we had the pescado a la talla estilo contramar, which I was very excited about. The presentation was beautiful, and the waiter showing us how to serve the fish was a nice touch. HOWEVER, upon trying the food, we found that the fish was lukewarm and shockingly flavorless. Given Contramar's popularity and how highly regarded it is, I was expecting an explosion of flavor. The level of blandness was mind boggling. I swear they didn't put even a pinch of salt on the fish. I said something because it was shockingly bad. Thankfully, they brought another one out which I thought was better, albeit nothing that makes my mouth water thinking about it now. So me and my boyfriend were really holding out hope for the dessert. We're long distance (DC to CDMX) so every dinner we have together matters more, and I was really praying that the dinner would end on a high note. Unfortunately, they were OUT of the strawberry merengue. I will admit I was so disappointed that a few tears were shed. We ended up getting the fig tart that I liked but my boyfriend didn't. At least we bonded on the walk home--30 minutes of complaining! I would advise anyone reading this to pass on contramar unless you want to pay thousands of pesos to be disappointed.
