On a Saturday I think you can guarantee yourself that this place will be busy the entire time you're in the area. When we pulled up to the market there was a line outside. After shopping for a couple of hours, there was a line outside and we decided to get in it. We waited for about 45 mins but we were a party of 8 so that was not a surprise. The restaurant is huge. The restaurant is beautiful. The service was really good all things considered. The food, overall I think would be classified as just okay. They had a good selection for drinks but I can say I just chose wrong in ordering a Bloody Mary with tequila instead of vodka. It was not that good. I had what would be considered chicken tacos. They were fine. I think my experience suffered due to being there around brunch time but not having a taste for what I consider a small menu. But the place is gorgeous and if you can order the to go t thing, you'd love it. The eight of us just failed to do so. read more

This quite litterally is the worst service I have had in while. They were very rude and discriminated against us since we were white and foreigners. Our server left for 35 mins and did not even end up returning. We asked for help from others and they decided not to help us eithier. They also overcharged us 500 pesos trying to explain little separate fees. This was terrible and im extremely annoyed. I do not ever reccomend anyone to come here. read more

I love CDMX and I love Saks!!! Saks in the CDMX! They have quite a few locations and this is the only location I've been to. I heard good things about this one an other locations as well. This one is in the small quaint little town called San Angel and it's probably the only restaurant with the most happening and the most patrons. It is located in the old hacienda, so so beautiful inside and out. Lots of characters and colors. The food was amazing and so was the service. We went for Saturday brunch or lunch and it was super busy, luckily we made reservations ahead of time for our party of 6. We opted for the lunch buffet options where everyone can order unlimited fruits, drinks, pastries, and entrees. They said technically you can order more than one entree but one entree is enough for anyone so I'm not sure how you can do more than one or more than 2. Also, there was a time limit and I think the lunch buffet ends at a certain time. Maybe 3pm? Don't hold me to it! Food was so fresh and the pastries were out of this world. The restaurant is extremely grande and reminiscent of a palacial courtyard. I really enjoyed the ambience and the professionalism of the staff. Monday 11:30am My colleague who's a local chose the place to meet for brunch. Why didn't I know about this place before ! I would taken my sisters / friends for brunch here. It's the perfect place to dine Al fresco, enjoying the weather while eating good food . They offer pastries to start and fruit ( I skipped the fruit ) before the entree . I had the steak chilaquiles , my colleague had the omelette served with beans and tortilla . On our way out , they handed us a container filled with pastries , what a treat ! This is a great neighborhood to explore on a Saturday! They have the artists market and there are great place to eat close by. We stopped at Saks and sat outside. There were so many good things on the menu, it was hard to decide. While we were deciding they presented a open leaf of assorted breads, along with 4 colorful dipping sauces - hummus, verde salsa, red salsa and a peanut concoction. We were hungry and the bread was amazing! I ordered the poblano soup, salad with blue cheese and figs, and the tuna tartar appetizer. My companion ordered the Mediterranean pasta. It was all SO GOOD! The soup was comforting - not too creamy, but had nice flavors of poblano Chile and corn. The figs in the salad were saturated in a sweet syrup and were juicy with red chopped walnuts and thin slices of blue cheese. This is my new comfort food. The tuna was chopped and had a marinade, and placed on lettuce on a corn chip. It needed a bit more kick, in my opinion, but they were still tasty. Giving this two stars solely for the food. I was recommended this restaurant by a friend for the food, but they did not inform me that the service was terrible. My group was comprised of six Americans, several of which spoke mediocre Spanish, and we found that the our waiter, Fernando, was extremely inattentive. When we were sat, all of our plates were speckled with food remains. Our waiter bumped into us maybe 8 different times, which could have been overlooked if he had been more respectful. We asked for water for the table, and they only brought out one bottle of Fiji with no cups. It took another 10 minutes to receive cups and another bottle. The complementary bread did not come out until our food was served (50 minutes after we had been sat), and we practically had to beg for any sort of spread. Throughout the meal, Fernando would not acknowledge our attempts to ask him for anything and two people in my party said he rolled his eyes at us. When it was time to pay, we decided on a 5% tip because of the bad service, and the waiter was very reluctant to hand the card reader over to us. We had to grab it with two hands and pull it away in order to input a custom tip. After paying, two waiters came over and basically tried to bully us into tipping more, and they insinuated that we didn't leave a tip at all to the other people around us. Overall, skip this tourist trap restaurant, especially if the wait staff believe that you do not speak Spanish well because they will belittle you. read more

Food is good and that's all My experience was completely ruined when two dogs brought by one family started barking inside the restaurant. If the restaurant has outdoor seating, why would the management allow someone to bring two dogs inside the main seating area. One dog was a large sheep dog ( imagine the dog hair flying around while you eat ) and the other a small one in a baby stroller which by the way pooped inside the restaurant as I saw staff rushing in with large amounts of paper towels to the table to help clean. And to imagine that this staff was going to serve other guests. This was my second time in the restaurant. I had been last year for the Three Kings' Day weekend to have a coffee and a slice of King cake. They were delicious. Saks is a gorgeous restaurant with high ceilings, beautiful paneling and lamps. They offer valet parking and the service is impeccable. They serve salsas and bread to begin with. The bread is varied and even includes some thin crispy ones. Unfortunately, I had begun my trip to Mexico City with food poisoning and wasn't going to dare touch the salsas. I only ordered a tomato soup that comes with goat cheese. It's a generous serving and has like a smoky taste. It's delicious. They had a group playing gorgeous Spanish-language tunes in the patio-seating area. The bar downstairs is gorgeous with bottles of alcohol I'd never seen before, like a high-heeled shoe and huichol-art ones. They sell small souvenir bottles as you exit the restaurant too. Too bad I couldn't order a big plate of food due to my previous night's food poisoning but everyone seemed to enjoy their food including a chicken mole dish. For Mexican standards, this place is not cheap. But if you're visiting Mexico City, pay a visit. The friends I was with said there's other locations. Go on a Saturday preferably when the Bazar Sábado is going on. I hope to return to Mexico City and fully enjoy a meal there. If it's warmer, sit outside. The musicians are truly talented. read more

Place was excellent. Build out and decor were fantastic. They start off by serving you a pastry. I had the cornbread, it was sweet and tasty. My wife had a fruit croissant, both were freshly made. We both ordered the meal package, I would highly recommend. It comes with a fruit plate with papaya, mango, nuts and cheese. Cheese, I know sounds weird, but all the fruit was very fresh and the combination was lovely. Then bread with various dipping sauces and grilled veggies. The sauces were VERY spicy, but we loved them. Our entrees were the divorced and bean and chicken enchiladas. Both were light, which was good since we had both eaten so much by this time. Dined (brunch) with a group of friends on New Years Eve day. WOW! I can tell you this is a must do when in Mexico City, even if you must brave the traffic and parking difficulties. The Pulpo carpaccio and Cerviche de Camerones were outstanding appetizers. All of our entrees were simply out of this world. I had the Arrachera and a bite of everyone else's dish. Saks, what can I possibly say about this little piece of heaven in the middle of the fancy schmancy San Angel? Well, I guess I'll start with the food. It's AMAZING. I mean, how could a restaurant that has servers that come up to you with a TRAY of muffins ever be a bad thing? I don't mean just any type of muffins, this stuff is fresh. Their options range from oatmeal, carrot to corn and so much more. All of them are fantastic. After you've had your fill of muffins, it's time to order. I got the chilaquiles with green sauce, a side of fruit and a fresh juice. I was so delightfully full for the ENTIRE day. I mean it, I was stuffed. The service was fantastic, but that's really the case for most places in Mexico City so it was to be expected. Finally, the ambiance was so lovely. You could see the hints of Spanish and Arabic decor everywhere and even a trip to the bathroom had me feeling like I was underdressed. It was so pretty! First off, let me start by saying Saks is the absolute best breakfast place I have tried, probably in my entire life. It sounds like an exaggeration but everything I tried here was good, nothing I tried here was just OK, because the whole meal was noteworthy. I came here for both dinner and breakfast and everything about my experience here was memorable. My dinner consisted of a lentil soup with fried banana and for the entree I chose the "medallon de res" served on a bed of mashed potatoes, and finally the incredible warm apple tart with vanilla ice cream. For the breakfast I got the package which includes a fresh juice, sweet bread, an entree and fresh fruit, as well as a cup of homemade Mexican hot chocolate. The papaya was bright red and deliciously sweet and ripe, and the hot chocolate was rich and full of flavor without being overly sweet. Now, the selection of sweet pastries offered to me in a big tray was generous and had so many breads that it was hard to choose from. I ended up getting the "pan de elote" (corn bread) and the croissant filled with cajeta which I both highly recommend, but in all honestly you can't go wrong with anything. For my entree, I got the omelette filled with Huitlacoche and a strong creamy cheese. They also brought a basket of bread with 2 delicious salsas as well to accompany your meal. Overall, the breakfast package is well-balanced, filling and is exceptionally tasty. The restaurant itself is very clean and has beautiful decor, as well as the service being excellent. Although, a little on the pricey side, the food here was amazing and worth every penny. On my short weekend trip to México, Saks is one of those restaurants that really stood out to me and has an overall great atmosphere and is considered one of the best in México I have tried. read more

We were seated front row outside, a great spot. The salsas and the different types of bread they give you are delicious. M ordered the beef stew and I opted for Lamb mixiote. Both we're amazingly cooked, we could feel the love they put in their food. Service was friendly and welcoming. The ambience was pleasant. You'll have a mimosa in your hand and a sweet pastry on your bread plate within a minute. Full bar--and the biggest tequila selection I've ever seen, though none of us imbibed at 10 am. Coffee bar, delicious sweet pastries, organic fruits. Varied brunch and lunch menu by Mexican standards, and our whole group of 4 enjoyed everything we ate. The patio is inviting for people watching and music but the main dining area is just gorgeous--check out the stained glass ceiling. Very reasonably priced for what you get as well, though admittedly the favorable US exchange rate probably deserves the most credit. Would very highly recommend. read more

I was pretty excited because I have not been in Mexico City in a long time and I was dying to eat again authentic chilaquiles.They didn't take too long to sit us , so we ordered right away the drinks, coffee, and food, we knew that the food was gonna be pricey, but I don't care if I have good food and good service. The servers/waiters were pretty professional; however, the manager on the other hand was so arrogant. The food was unflavored, soggy, and uncooked !! When we told him he did nothing; moreover, he acted offended and try to kick us right away. We ended up paying and leaving pretty angry not at the waiters, but at the unethical manager. The place is nice & the service is OK, but the food is HORRIBLE, i ordered a rib-eye and it was UNEDIBLE, i only took 2 bites and it was raw and chewy, and when i asked if they could change it for me, they took it back and i was expecting they would give it back to me but never returned it to me, the "mole" was unedible too, it tasted like the paste with just a few drops of water in it so it was so hard to eat, and when the check arrived they attempted to charge me the rib eye which i didn't even eat, and when i asked the waitress to delete the rib-eye from the check, she gave me a look and replied to me with an attitude, finally after 5 minutes they gave me a new check without the rib-eye. We enjoyed a lovely Sunday afternoon meal with a Mexican colleague ad his family. The service was gracious: It was no problem that our large party delayed ordering while some of the family were almost an hour late- very Mexican! The food was just lovely. I enjoyed a large ancho Chile in pastry stuffed with goat cheese and huitlacoche- the delicate mushroom -like fungus of corn with a red pepper sauce. Believe me, it was wonderful! Everyone else really seemed to enjoy their entrées, and the desserts were scrumptious. We sat out on the large porch, serenaded by an excellent Cuban band. If Cuban music isn't your thing, they would have seated you inside the lovely former mansion. San Angel is a gorgeous neighborhood of old mansions and pretty parks.
