    Caesar salad
    Pat L.

This decades-old Mexico City institution near Chapultepec Park is old school at its best. The food is served family style and is simple and delicious. On each visit we had the salt-baked whole bass, which is enrobed in salt crystals and baked for 35 minutes. Then it is deboned tableside by an expert server and served with slices of boiled potatoes and the most delicious tartar sauce. Moist and tender, the fish is a knockout. A traditional Caesar salad is also prepared tableside with each element creating the Platonic ideal of a Caesar salad...romaine, croutons, the dressing made at the moment. A meal always begins with a free starter, once a chicken leg in adobo, another time a small golden corn tortilla sprinkled with shreds of chicken, cheese and other elements. The drinks are good. After all, it is a bar. A perfect, simple margarita; a crisp gin and tonic; a "macho" tequila with a whole Serrano pepper floating in it; a michelada with beer, Worcestershire sauce and other flavorings. A pianist adds to the convivial ambiance. On Saturdays, the restaurant is full of bourgeois families eating leisurely meals. On weekdays it seems to be a business crowd. There is a small room where dominos are played and a large cantina that was men-only until a couple of years ago. DFenos (folks from Mexico City) eat their large meal from 2:00 on, so plan to dine around 3 pm. This really is a locals' place with straightforward food, drink, and service. No fancy plating, garnishes or decor. An authentic experience.

    This was the salted fish.

We then kicked things off with the arancini, which set the tone right away--crispy, flavorful, and perfectly done. For mains, we shared a spread and honestly couldn't pick a favorite: the Octopus Tacos were tender and packed with flavor, the Rabbit Tacos were unique and delicious, and the roasted seasonal vegetables "al mojo de ajo" were simple but so satisfying. The marinated pan-fried salmon and fresh trout were both beautifully cooked and thoughtfully seasoned. Every dish felt intentional, beautifully presented and well executed. But the real showstoppers were the desserts. The fresh goat cheesecake with orange, grapefruit, and lemon was bright and perfectly balanced, and the whisky chocolate crème brûlée was rich, smooth, and unforgettable. Desserts truly knocked it out of the park. Bonus points for the cocktails--my hubby was a huge fan. Great food, great drinks, excellent service and relaxed ambiance made for a wonderful overall experience. Highly recommend adding Temporal to your Mexico City dining list.

Even though they have…read moreseveral locations across CDMX, we stumbled upon one just a short walk from our hotel--and the fact that they were open on Christmas Day already earned bonus points. What really says it all? We loved it so much, we went back the very next day. This was the only restaurant we repeated during our week-long stay, which should tell you everything. The menu is extensive and thoughtfully curated--fresh, flavorful, and something for everyone. We tried the croissant sandwich, salmon deli nut sandwich, chutney mango deli sandwich, santos ahogados, fig chipotle deli sandwich, pear honey deli sandwich, and the spicy tuna deli sandwich. The sandwiches came with a standard simple salad. Every single item was delicious, well-balanced, and satisfying in that "clean but filling" way. The tables had two delicious spicy chili oil like condiments which elevated each of these dishes. And the juices--WOW. So refreshing, vibrant, and clearly made with high-quality ingredients. The perfect complement to the food and ideal for starting (or resetting) your day. If you're visiting Mexico City, Ojo de Agua is an absolute must. With such a wide menu, you're guaranteed to find something you'll love--and very likely come back for more. Highly recommend!

We tried a few juices, the chicken tomato salad and the salmon tacos. The salad was huge with a big portion of chicken, avocado and many toppings for a reasonable price. The tacos were smaller but flavorful. Taking off a star because my salad arrived almost 15 minutes before my boyfriend's tacos arrived and the restaurant was pretty empty. The lights were out in the bathroom and in part of the restaurant, so not sure if they were dealing with a partial power outage and impact to the kitchen. Still recommend for the food!

Then, allow the friendly staff to bring as many items from the menu as you can handle. Come with a group so you can share. An absolute must is the whole fish done à la Contramar, one side of the split fish coated in a punchy parsley sauce and the other in a red adobo rub. Served with flour tortillas (which are refillable) and black bean dip, you'll be instructed how to compose perfect bites. Then, choose your own adventure! We also had both the 4 piece each shrimp tostadas and tuna tostadas. Radically different so getting both doesn't duplicate. The pasta (spaghettini) with clams was buttery and garlicky and the pasta was surprisingly not overcooked. Biggest surprise was the grilled soft shell crabs (with corn tortillas). They came pre cut then reassembled so it was easy to pick them up and pop them in your mouth. The grill flavor was fantastic and we were all impressed. We finished with a slice of coconut cake which was like a caramel coated macaroon. Perfect! Large wine list by the glass and bottle, many cocktails, sangria and beer to choose from. Definitely a place to visit when in Mexico City. Sorry for the lack of photos-- we forgot because we dove into each dish (we were hungry and they looked so good)! Got one good one though...

I was perusing Yelp trying to find a good Tres Leches, through my research I landed on this spot. This is a large restaurant, plus it was after 10pm when we arrived (they close really late), so we were sat and greeted pretty immediately. We ordered a chicken taco, steak taco, al pastor and a couple more, all the tacos we got were quite good and flavorful. The style of tacos was different than what we're used to as it was literally flat pieces of piled up meat on a tortilla with nothing else. The Tres Leches was just okay to me, there was something in it I didn't like, but my brother enjoyed it. Service was great! Very attentive, fast and friendly. Here's the issue...I got food poisoning as a result of something I ate here. With that said, I could not give this spot more than three stars, however like I said the food and service were two thumbs up, but getting sick was equally two thumbs down.
