The one thing I love about Ale Hop is that they do their own brew! A bit harpy but great beer and lovely environment with some mates! Great variety of choices and if you're like me and can't make up your mind on what to have. Order lots of samplers instead of glasses of beer. I think it might be a little bit of work for the bar tender (so make sure you give a good tip), but at €0.5 per sample, it's actually not a bad deal to try all 10 beers at a reasonable price (you ended up drinking more than a standard serve anyway). read more

It's been pretty packed lately, but this spot is tucked away and has tables for dining in the back (and some comfy chairs). They're dog friendly and you'll often find pups in the mix indoors or out (I bring my regularly). The food is mostly good. I'd skip the pasta, but the mexican burger (black beans) and the bravas (with harissa and using sweet potato) are great. The croquettas are also always awesome and they are seasonal, made in house and often have things like swiss chard or truffles. The brownie with ice cream is decent if you're missing a real brownie from the states, as most of them in BCN are not really brownies but more like bland chocolate cake. This one is legit, however. Hummus is also nice, as are the mojopicon olives for snacks. THose are the highlights. Beer selection is always pretty good, there are actually 10 taps, but two are low pressure something or other. They have organic lemonade and some other non alcoholic drinks as well; someone else said the wines aren't great and that's true, it's not really a wine spot. read more

These are the most creative veggie burgers I've ever had. I love that they're not content with one kind. They have three on the menu, and I had the lentil with dill and mustard. My husband had the chickpea with beet, rhubarb and wasabi. I loved mine, but I wanted to eat his, too. The bun is nice and flaky like saltines. They come with big fat chewy sweet potato wedges with aioli. The craft beers are very hoppy, which is what American hipsters like, and they were there in numbers. A very drunk girl hurt the bartender's feelings by telling her she looked like Lena Dunham. "You know who she is? Do you watch the show Girls? But you're prettier than she is." After they paid I told the bartender she didn't look like her and not to let it ruin her night. She thanked me and said another guy asked if she was pregnant earlier and maybe people are just jerks on Mondays. Anyway, if you like good veggie burgers and hoppy craft beer and cheese -- they have an excellent cheese plate, but they only do the board. They don't serve it tapas style, which is weird in Spain, and they don't let you taste the beer. You have to buy the 1.5 euro flight of three shots of beer. That said, go here. read more

This place was packed, but everyone working there was working hard! The food was great. I was skeptical of vegan beer bar food, but it was GOOD. I had the beet burger, it was perfect. But more important than the food and the awesome comics they made into wall paper (and coincidentally blessed by the artist); is the awesome beer selection. The prices are reasonable, and the pours are perfect. Some of the beers you can even take to go, (which we did, drank, and refilled before leaving Barcelona). Good wide selection in place of the normal "We have 8 different IPA's and only 1 other type of beer". Great food, I loved the vegan options. They have quite a few vegan options, which is very exciting, as I usually find only one vegan dish at most places. The beer was good, I tried the Fort Apa. I had a Mexican vegan burger which was AMAZING, it was a black bean base with guac, caramelized onions, BBQ sauce and tomato/lettuce. It was so good. Served with like 5 sweet potato fries. The service was really great too. It would be nice if the portion sizes were a bit bigger, as the burger was slightly larger than a slider. But I guess it's in keeping with the tapas thing? After I left I wished I had ordered another one, as its more of a snack than a meal unless you get more than 1 thing. They change the tap selection often, which is great. Two downsides: the place is quite small, and they don't offer any good alternative for non-beer-lovers - no cider, no fruit beer, just a small selection of organic wine that is not great. read more

We found Ale & Hop while staying in the El Born neighborhood, and it was a great craft beer oasis to have nearby. It's a small spot on a cool cobblestone street with an outdoor area you can hang out in if you want to. They have a good selection of beers on tap both local and from far away, and you can get them in pints or half pints which is really cool so you can try more beers without having to get sloshed. We didn't try the food though, but from what I read they have some good selections also. In addition to the beers on tap, they have a selection of bottles/cans that you can buy to have there or take away also. Definitely I'd go back next time we're visiting Barcelona :-) read more

The menu as a whole is limited whether you're Vegan or Vegetarian which was the one down side to this place. The atmosphere was cool and the waitstaff a ton of fun. Very crowded with limited seating, but I really enjoyed my visit here. Going alone and eating at the bar makes for a great opportunity to meet other patrons. Little gem outside of the main area but worth it! Amazing vegetarian food with great beers. Definitely a busy place with standing room only at the bar. This is a true bar scene, so don't go in with false expectations. The food is absolutely great, especially the vegan burgers. One of the people in our party didn't like their beet burger, but everyone else loved the food (especially the nachos with guacamole and sweet potato fries). The only reason I would give Ale & Hop less than five stars is the service. Service was reeaally slow since there was only one person working all the tables. (They also missed a couple of orders at first.) I'll bet that if they staffed a second person for tables these issues would be resolved. Don't let that take away from the food, though, which is really great! read more

Fabulous little beer pub. Try the Edge (local to Barcelona) IPA/APAs. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable and speak enough English to make it easy to visit. Its in the middle of the Barri Gotic but not that hard to find. Nine taps including and a vegan menu. Llenties i Mill burger was awesome. If you're sick of Estrella and Mahon and want amazing beer and a healthy respite from jamon this is the place to find. read more
