I absolutely love Ale Mary's! I've been coming here for a few years since I first moved too the area. The beer menu is expansive, and offers a lot of options, and the bartenders are ALWAYS knowledgeable, and give you honest opinions. One thing I will say as a tip is, if your in the mood for dinner I would get there before 6 too order your food or you'll be waiting for a table. In my opinion that speaks too how good they are. The food is good, and on point for Gastropub style food. The atmosphere is equally as awesome, and it's such a mixed crowd, which I find appealing since it means there's something for everyone. This place has gone so far downhill since Covid. I used to come here frequently then when they went to take out orders only it seemed there was always something wrong or missing. I tried to be understanding as it was Covid but it kept happening. I left the area for two years but recently came back for a visit and came to ale Mary's with a group of 8+. Due to being a large group we said we were fine splitting into two tables. We were told we were unable to be split up because it would overwhelm the kitchen. There was only one table large enough for our group so we patiently went to the attached game room and continued to buy beers and spend money playing games while we waited. We were initially told it would be an hours wait. After an hour members of the group periodically checked in with the host who again told us we could not split into two tables despite them sitting multiple groups of 4+ that came in after us. After two hours of waiting we checked in again and were told if we don't stop asking they would escort us out?!?!?! We asked for a manager and they would not allow us to talk talk to one so we left without food after waiting over two hours and spending a lot of money on beer and games. This place satisfied any and every craving three grown a$$ men could've ever imagined. My girlfriend and I love this place. We always start with a bowl of French onion soup which is the best in the area. If you love wings the house sauce is my favorite. We also had the pierogi flatbread, Buffalo wing flat bread, cauliflower tacos, and steak and cheese and all were very good!! We got the Macho Man Nachos, which barely had any chicken and the queso was very dry and synthetic. On to a Turkey Club and the Scrantonian Hoggie, which both were very sub par. This is a really nice beer-bar with some creative and tasty pub food. The beer list is longer than Noam Chomsky's vocabulary with a nice collection of about 12 draft beers. The bar is clean, has high ceilings, and is outfitted with plenty of nice TVs. They have a sweet touch tunes jukebox as well. I believe that you can download the touch tunes app for embarrassment free Cyndi Lauper jamming. Onto the food. I'd define it as good, maybe great creative pub food. We had the dumpster fries which was a huge bed of crispy curly fries topped with shredded roast beef and awesome cheese sauce to start. Very very good. Our other food consisted of 2 orders of wings and an order of sliders. Wings: We had to try the PB&J wings which were successful as a concept, but kind of failed as a dish. To be more specific, the flavors actually worked! They worked well, but honestly after 1 or 2 you're going to be done because the peanut butter sauce is simply so rich and And plentiful that you can't enjoy more than a couple. The original (maybe house?) wings were also pretty good. The waitress told us that the cook wouldn't tell anyone how to make the sauce. They were good, but certainly weren't that good. Ultimately they were sweeter than I prefer a standard hot wing. Sliders We had the parmageddon sliders (chicken) which are essentially chicken parm sandwiches. They're damn good, and much larger than you'd expect a slider to be. They were served with the sweet potato fries and marshmallow fluff sauce. All good stuff, but I thought the marinara was a bit sweet. When you add up all of our food, the only thing that was truly savory were the dumpster fries. Perhaps shame on us for ordering like we did, but the entire meal was sweet, which I don't typically prefer. That aside, great place. Great service. I normally don't post a lot of negative things, but this has happened multiple times to quite a few people I know. This only applies to lunch as that is most of my experience with this company. I went to Ale Marys. When I arrived very shortly after 4 tables were sat. I placed an order for 2 flat breads (both with pre made shredded meats) at approximately 12:20. At 12:45, the one waitress they had (1 waitress? Downtown scranton during lunch rush?) Began bringing food out the tables around us. 5 tables go by, still no food. I'm now getting cranky. So I say something. She apologizes and says we are busy and we only have one cook. I say wrap it and bring the check I need to go back to work she says ok it will be right out. 10 min. Later...still no food. Finally I approach the manager (I assume) and explain my issue. I also look in the kitchen and clearly see 2 cooks on the line. Manager apologizes...more tables get their food, still no food. Finally they offer to comp it. I get the food, get back to work and swear the place off. The flatbreads were steaming hot. They never made the order. Let me reiterate. I work in a very large office building. Almost none of my coworkers will go because this happens often. The only good thing is that it was comped. This place is the worst place I have ever eaten at in all of my world travels and thousands of restaurant visits. Absolutely horrible food and watery soda and drinks. The restaurant was freezing cold and I couldn't even finish half of meal due to how disgusting it was. My partner and I waited about an hour for a simple meal and the fries were disgusting, with what seemed to be handfuls of cinnamon thrown over them. We literally feel sick to our stomachs and this ruined our afternoon. We just wanted a nice burger meal and were given an odd tasting mixture of food that tasted like it was thrown together in haste from scraps and by a brand new cook. Avoid this place at all costs. Came here for lunch on Sunday. Nice open space, but generally forgettable experience. Beer list mostly staples with only a few interesting craft choices. The food menu was made up of mostly typical bar food with eclectic sounding twists. We ordered a plain mac and cheese for the kid, a bison cheesesteak, and the salmon burger. The plain mac and cheese was decent, more of a cheese sauce, which is okay if that's your thing. The bison cheesesteak was okay, but the chipotle aioli was unnecessary. I'm gonna have to give this place a second chance because the menu has other things I want to try, but my first visit was disappointing. The server did a good job and the place is well decorated. There are many TV's just in case your phone is broken and you need to ignore your date. (Some kids these days are ignorant). I started with French onion soup. I'm not a picky eater, but I actually returned it. For the first time in my life a food was too salty. It was also too sweet, oddly. The soup itself was at ideal saltiness for ME, which is to say too salty for most. The addition of croutons on top made it inedibly salty. The cheese was good, though. We had pierogi and Buffalo chicken flatbreads. They looked amazing. The cook obviously cares about presentation. They came out looking like what you'd see on a commercial. The taste, well... The pierogi was ok, but it would have been better if it were hot. The Buffalo was meh. Very pretty, but not really much classic Buffalo chicken flavor; it was more of an homage to Buffalo chicken. Went here to celebrate a friends birthday and the service was not as good as we hoped it would be. Our waitress was not attentive to our table whatsoever. Many of us had to wait an unreasonable amount of time to order a drink or more food. With that being said, when we ordered our food many of us were missing elements of our dish but we were not able to tell her until she came back to give us the check. Usually, waitresses come back and check on the table but that didn't happen. I saw that they had a food challenge here, so I decided to see how the food is. I tried one of the footlong hot dogs that's in the challenge. I had the Craig Mac, it's a all beef hot dog, wrapped in bacon and topped with Gouda mac & cheese, with a side of fries. The mac & cheese was ok, the fries were soggy and the hot dog was extremely salty. I couldn't even eat the food. I ate maybe half the hot dog and all the mac & cheese. I couldn't eat any more. I've been here several times now and I'm finally ready to review. At first, I didn't know what I thought of Ale Mary's. Was it a beer bar with a kitchen? Was it a restaurant that turns into a bar on weekends? I can now confidently say that it is all of the above. With a newly updated and revamped menu, Ale Mary's is a destination for both good food and good beer that turns into a happening spot later in the evening on weekends. The menu features elevated bar food. Lots of creative sandwiches with interesting toppings. Really good fries and appetizers if that's more your thing. Beer selection is good with many taps and a mid-sized bottle list. My only gripe with the beer menu is they don't update it frequently and often have beers listed that are no longer available. Stop in on a weekend for dinner and a beer, then stay into the evening for live music and a fun crowd. read more

I love the beer selection, and I think the food is very good. The only issue I have ud, imho, always seems that the bartenders at the actual bar are disinterested in their job. They have a fantastic beer selection. The bartender staff seems disinterested in learning what the beer selection really is, the styles they actually are or even on engaging you. I felt like I was bothering them from their cell phones when I waited at the bar for a drink. Give me a smile at least. It's not that hard to make a sale and have a repeat customer. Despite that I do recommend coworkers and visitors from out of town at my business to check this place out. Great overall. It's a good place to catch a game. They have a bunch of TV's and they also have good food. I usually get the buffalo chicken flatbread. They have a decent variety of beers on tap, and they usually change their selection as well. There's a big room for events and there's a game room with a couple of pool tables, basketball, a jukebox, etc. Disadvantages: they close pretty early for a sports bar and the staff can sometimes be a bit inattentive. read more

Great food, great service, great atmosphere! My mom and I were on a trip down to Harrisburg, PA so I took it upon myself to yelp for good food along the way. I picked this place out specifically for their unique spin on traditional American dishes and we were not disappointed! It was later at night on a Thursday so parking wasn't a problem. Upon entering we were greated by the host. Being from New York, we were actually surprised by how kind and welcoming their staff was. For being a week night, there was a nice crowd but it wasn't too busy; we were seated immediately. I'm guessing there was a college nearby because most customers seemed to be on the younger side. The establishment itself was very cozy with plenty of room and two bars; not at all what I was expecting for a dive bar. The atmosphere was very friendly and comfortable. To be honest, what drew me to this place was the peanut butter and jelly wings. I am a huge wing lover and since they sounded unique and had good reviews I was eager to try them. Looking over the menu they have a lot of great sounding foods for a gastropub. We began with the Monte Cristo Eggrolls. Delicious. For $8, we received two decently sized eggrolls. It was turkey, pork and cheese fried in and eggroll wrapper with raspberry framboise (jelly) on the side. The mixture of ingredients was amazing. The turkey was on the dry side but dipping it in the framboise counteracted that. I loved the salty and sweet mix although I think I would have preferred mustard, personally, but that would defeat the purpose of the Monte Cristo theme. I would highly recommend this dish nonetheless. The food did seem a little rushed since our "entrees" came out while we were still eating our eggrolls but that didn't bother us. Of course we ordered the Peanut Butter and Jelly Wings, but we also ordered the Duck Cheesesteak Sliders and decided to split both. I was hesitant as the wings came out, you could definitely smell the peanut butter, but upon trying them we were very pleased. They were cooked perfectly. They were crispy on the outside, they tasted like they were fried in fresh oil, and they were juicy and meaty on the inside. Once again, I loved the balance of sweet and salty. They had a spicy Thai peanut butter sauce (basically spicy peanut butter), raspberry framboise and cayenne peanuts on top. I ended up adding more framboise to cut on the dense flavors of the wing. They were definitely good with a little tolerable kick but they were very filling since it was protein on top of protein; I could only eat three. The marshmallow sauce tasted like marshmallow fluff: not my favorite and almost too sweet with everything else but my mom enjoyed it. I wasn't crazy about the duck sliders but I think that has to do with personal taste preferences. It almost tasted like stuffing due to a strong sage flavor. The siracha sauce was sort of bland with a lot of spice and the sandwich was almost mushy. It needed crunch. Maybe fried onions would enhance it? The duck itself (I ended up picking out and eating) was moist and flavorful and the bread wasn't bad but the overall flavor I wasn't fond of. The sliders also came with a side of sweet potato fries which I found dipping them in the raspberry framboise made them even more delicious but they did get cold fast. Once again, I thought the marshmallow sauce was too much. The proportions were great for the price. The duck sliders were 3 for $10.50, but they were definitely bigger than sliders. I was full after barely finishing one with everything else I had. There were plenty of wings for $9.50 and they did not skimp on the sauce; a plus in my book. Overall, I am definitely coming back here. My brother is moving to Harrisburg so this will be a regular stopping place for me. I look forward to trying their other dishes in the future such as the cheesesteak eggrolls, reuben wontons, bacon tempura, and bourbon and bacon wings. The price was average and the service was wonderful. I would highly recommended this place to anyone who likes a tasty spin on comfort foods. read more

The Beard has redeemed himself! About 2 weeks ago my wife, two friends and I decided to stroll in to Ale Mary's for lunch. I have said this in the past, the food is great, the service was alway sub par. But I now chalk that up to a fresh opening (the first time I was here was within a month of the doors opening). And an event going on during a standard busy Saturday night. The place was not empty, but was pretty slow when we walked through the doors. We four took up residence at the bar nearest a beer cooler so we could examine our options. The Beard happened to be working behind the bar. My initial thought was, great, this was a terrible idea. But I quickly realized I was wrong. He waisted no time coming up to us to great us and ask if we wanted menus. He gave us some great beer suggestions, and got them in front of use in record time. He also made some good food suggestions. I took his advice and got basically Cuban Sliders (they have a different name on the menu, but I cannot remember it at this time). Our food came out quickly, and it was great. The four of us all had 2 drinks and food, and the whole time I felt comfortable and had great service. This review is short and to the point. Found Ale Marys as a result of not having enough tv reception at our cabin to watch the US women's world cup game vs. China, so we looked to see where the Outlaw supporters met, and figured it must be a fun place to watch a game. 9 tv's certainly proved sufficient, the crowd somewhat enthusiastic, and the gastro pub quite good! I can't attest to the bar selections or prices, but the menu was interesting, in some cases, beyond my desire to explore. But our order of arichoke dip, chili, tomato bisque, grilled cheese sliders, and wings was ample, and there were 50% off deals during happy hour and during the game to boot. Our waitress was most amiciabe, and kept our non-alcoholic drinks filled. Tab came to $40 for three. I'd say this pub will be a mainstay in Scranton for some time. I'd go back in a heartbeat. There were 4 of us and we started with tempura bacon and the bacon-wrapped mozzarella cheese sticks. I cam only hope the defibrillator hung on the wall! Our meals ranged from hot dogs smothered in bbq and jalapeños, bourbon & bacon wings, gnocchi with bacon, cheese & goodness and flat bread with all kinds of hot stuff on it. The beer menu? HUGH! I love Ale Mary's! This place is one of my first choices for a get together with friends, a night out with my husband, or a lunch with my Mom. I appreciate the time taken to make the menu unique and the seasonal drinks fun. (My favorite recently was being able to get an apple cider mimosa with my dinner! Usually that is more of a brunch item.) I do not eat meat and I NEVER feel "out of place" here. The tomato bisque soup is my favorite soup around, the house fries have a perfect flavoring with rosemary, and the cauliflower tacos are TO DIE FOR!
