I was really impressed with this place. In town on a Sunday night before skiing all day. Found this place on yelp. So happy we did. It was a bitter cold Sunday night so it wasn't very crowded at all. Sat at the bar for dinner. Beer selection was great. The bartender was super nice and willing to talk about the beers if you asked. I tried a double chocolate beer that was scrumptious. Good selection of draft beers and a ton of bottle options. The menu was excellent. I wished we were around longer so I could go back and try more menu items. We wound up ordering the tempura bacon, buffalo chicken flatbread, and drunken muscles. Everything was good! The tempura bacon came with a siracha ranch which really made the dish. The buffalo chicken flatbread was messy but good and sweet and spicy, almost like a hot and honey sauce. The muscles were excellent! A few menu items that caught my eye but we didn't get to try were the Reuben wontons, monte Cristo bites, and PB&J wings. And the price was right too! Enjoyed one of the best burgers I've ever had anywhere. The stacker consisted of two perfectly done patties topped with pulled pork. Melded together with onion straws created just the right mixture of flavors. The fries were just the right amount of crispy. Hope this delicious burger is added to the menu and called the Eddie burger. Our very capable server Colin was attentive to our every need. We were just passing through on a mind-numbing ride up the Northeast Extension to NY. We had to sit through 3 major accident-related traffic jams, and just wanted a tasty meal. Popped over here to Yelp, sorted by ratings, and started reading. Ale Mary's got all kinds of rave reviews not just as a cool spot, but for the FOOD. Our choice was made. Arrived just as USA v China World Cup game was getting underway. The game was on all the TVs and the volume was loud. Began to doubt if this detour was worth it when we sat and had to wait for a while to even talk to a server. But all was not lost. When our server, Beth, finally did appear, she was great. The right blend of enthusiasm and eagerness to please. We ordered the house salad, which Beth warned us was pretty large (delicious: mixed greens, thin- sliced apples, golden raisins, nut-covered goat cheese), and 2 sliders: The Eastwood - BBQ short ribs, onion rings, monterey cheese & a yummy sauce - & The Notorious P.I.G. - a decadent jalepeno hot dog, wrapped in bacon, topped with pulled pork BBQ & melted cheese served on a mini pointed ciabatta roll. To die for!! But these sliders are *not* one-bite deals and you get 3 per order PLUS your choice of regular fries (skinny cut with rosemary & a spicy dipping sauce) or sweet potato fries with a marshmallow dipping sauce (nirvana!!). A bit pricey as most of the bars in downtown are, it's a great place to get a drink and some great quality bar food. The beer can chicken noodle soup is incredible, as are their everything pretzels. It looks like on Wednesdays Ale Mary's works with Paint Nite which is why I was there last. Cheap martinis and some paint, sounds great, doesn't it? read more

I hate the overhyped beer scene as of recent but this place truly had a great selection that seemed well thought-out. I only get to drink beer on very special occasions so I got a flight and discovered a new favorite beer in the Flanders Red Ale. Thanks, Ale Mary's! I ate a salad that was pretty boring but it's my fault for ordering a salad at a gastropub. Great place to hang out with friends or to watch a game. The food is really good especially the dumpster fries which change daily. Food and drinks are decently priced and there is lots of seating. The inside is very spacious and they have a side room for parties or other events. The staff is really nice and mostly knowledgeable about the different beers they sell. They have a Facebook page which they update often but I do wish they would update it every day with their specials and dumpster fries of the day to check it out before getting there. Also, sometimes the service is a little slow. They don't have a large selections of salads, and as a person with dietary restrictions, that's an important part of a menu I always check first. I also wish they had brunch on Saturdays and Sundays. But overall, it's a fun place to hang out. read more

I've heard mixed reviews about Ale Mary's however, I recently met some colleagues for an after hours strategy session and was surprised by the establishment. The food is quirky in a good way (I'm not super adventurous with food but what is that magical goodness they put on the BBQ Nachos??). The adult drink selection is impressive, and the atmosphere is big city - literally you feel like you're in Philadelphia (except without the crowds and inflated prices). One of my favorite places to go in Scranton! This visit I went just for drinks and had some amazing martinis. The bartender was very helpful with suggestions on the menu as well as offering suggestions of drinks he could make off the menu. I have eaten at Ale Mary's many times and always enjoy my meal. Wow. I agree with the review from 10 days earlier. Hang at the bar and get service. Ask for a table, and get NOTHING. Not only were we never greeted or welcomed, but we were dismissively seated and left alone for about 20 minutes. During which period of time no food server ever approached any tables/diners in our vicinity. Left alone, ignored, and not even sure who we could ask for help, we just stood up and left. Im giving this place 4 stars cuz the service was really slow.....and everytime im here its realllly slow. But their food is amazing. If your sick of the same ol Scranton food, this is the place to go for diffrent food. Soft prezels are so good. The mustard sauce is even better than the cheese they give you, and i love cheese. Bbq flatbread is awsome. Short rib french dip phenomenal! Sweet potato fries with the marshmellow dipping sauce, oh! They have hot dogs my friends have gotten that said they are really good also. The wings are good too. I cant rememebr what sauce i got, but they were good. And i only eat GOOD wings! Which in Scranton, theres not a lot of places for good wings. Beer selection awesome. Super clean place including restrooms. We just ordered wings tried the fiery parm. Big crispy wings fresh and flavourful. We are purists who order hot so these were not really for us but I can see why others would choose them. Only negative... not enough carrots & celery & they served baby carrots. Came to Ale Mary's because it was billed as a Sports Bar on Yelp. I wasn't disappointed when I walked in to find plenty of big screen Tv's airing the NL Wild Card pre-game show. Was presented with a drink menu and later a food menu. So far, very impressed with the place. Beer options look very good, solid variety across styles and brands. Food menu looks amazing! After inquiring about something called PB&J wings, I am told they're the most popular and a signature dish at Ale Mary's. I'm an adventurous eater and decided to give them a shot. Saying that the PB&J wings are interesting is an understatement. They're complex, indulgent, and different. Think chicken satay with a raspberry sauce. No ranch or bleu cheese needed to cool down any spice so they're served with melted marshmallow fluff. These are definitely meant for sharing because after 3 of them, I felt like I'd eaten a feast and I'm a big eater. I'd like to come back and try other menu items since so many things sound amazing. Now, again, I came here because I was looking for a Sports Bar to watch the NL Wild Card playoff. The game is about to start and I notice that the sound is fairly low. I'd watched the AL Wild Card playoff the night before at a different spot and left because they wouldn't turn on the sound. I was hoping this spot wouldn't do the same. Instead of silence, they begin blaring Despocito. Now, I get that not everyone is a baseball fan but this is a Sports Bar, air the game with sound. Maybe this is just a Scranton thing? To watch games in silence or with music? The music continued to get louder, jumping around to country and so on. I asked if they could kill the music to which the response was to turn it up even louder. So you have blaring music, people yelling because they can't hear each other talking, and a great game unfolding that is difficult to watch because the noise element is hurting my skull. I eventually left because the noise had given me a raging headache and my ears were ringing so loud it felt as if I'd just left a concert. I returned to my hotel room and finished watching the game there. My only advice to Ale Mary's would be that if you're going to label yourself as a Sports Bar, then behave like one. read more

Loved this place! Food was great. Able to accommodate our group of 6 really quickly. Food was awesome, the Trashcan (or dumpster?) fries were delicious with cheese, chili, more cheese, crisscross fries and pretzels. Yum! I ended up sharing food with three other people and it there was nothing I didn't like. Service getting drinks etc was a little slow, but the place was pretty busy and really the atmosphere was fun - I didn't feel like I was twiddling my thumbs. Drink beer? STAY, but stay at the bar, your better off that way. The wait staff hangs at the bar. Your certain to get attention there. End up at a table like we did and your forgotten. Is your food good? Everything What you expected? Can I refill that drink for you? Do you need a fork and knife? All questions you expect from an attentive waiter, somewhere else maybe. Not here. Stopped here for a late lunch on our way through after reading the great reviews. The food was pretty good. Our family tried the pb&j wings with marshmallow sauce, my hubby and I tried the pierogie flat bread and steak and eggs quesadillas. Our son tried the truffle burger and our daughters tried the short rib flatbread. Everyone enjoyed their meals and we had plenty of leftovers to bring home for dinner later because the portions are quite large. I wish I could remember our server's name.
