Was on a cross country road trip with my wife and we thought we would stop here as it had good ratings for lunch. Atmosphere was your standard pub or bar nothing all that special. They had an odd mix of xmas songs on and a few sport channels and a random religious channel on (strange). Service was pretty bad, not really caring that we were there and would just check in when they noticed we looked at them. There was 3 people in the whole place so ya not impressed. The food was pretty awful. The menu looks fantastic but the execution was really poor. I had the surf and turf cheesesteak which I was excited for but was sad to see this glob of cheese solidified on top. It was cold and way way way to much nasty cheese to the point it grossed me out. The thyme fries were ok. My wife's food was all burnt! It was a grill cheese and sweet potato fries.....how hard is that to cook?! I only gave it 2 stars because it had a pretty good beer selection. Skip the food and get a beer here if you do go and even then the service was so poor I wouldn't even do that. read more

Food was great but service was sub-par. I had the Macaroni and Cheese, while my friend had the Pulled Pork Nachos. The pub pretzels were also exceptional! Love this place! Never had a dish I didn't like. We usually get a bunch of different appetizers to share because it's so hard to decide on just one delicious item off the menu and most of the portions are HUGE. Some of my favorites are the buffalo chicken flatbread, the mac n cheese, monte Cristo chicken and waffles and the short rib French dip is AMAZING, probably my favorite. Had a blast last night. Food was outstanding. We got the pulled pork nacho which is enough to to feed 4; A basket of the old bay fries and cheese and the wedge salad. Nachos were loaded with flavor and tasteful ingredients. Crab fries covered in old bay and served with nacho cheese were delicious. the wedge salad was awesome. our server was a delight. she was very knowledgeable and made great recommendations. the bar had some awesome drinks. my wife enjoyed a white gummy bear while I had some local summer ale. read more

Perfect gastro pub in the electric city. Love the beer selection that ale marys provides as well as the apps. The pretzels and the bacon wrapped mozzarella sticks are where it's at! More than disappointing...came here due to the excellent reviews, especially to try the French onion soup. However, the first downer was the Bloody Mary that was pure tomato juice with some garnishes. The bartender swore there was a double shot of vodka in there but... Moving on, The French onion soup was pretty much sweet onion purée...this was not a soup. Think baby food with tons of cheese. Then came the pulled pork nachos...they might as well have been called BBQ sauce on nachos. Website says kitchen open until 11:00 pm on Fridays. Called to make sure and was told 11:00 pm. Got there at 10:04 pm and was told we could not order food because the kitchen was closed. Where's John Taffer when you need him. Bartenders are aloof and slow. Place looks nice but we left because we needed to eat and spent about $168 on the night with drinks at another bar. This place doesn't seem to care about you spending your $168 there. Pictures of the food looked great but are inedible because they are pictures. read more

Careless and inattentive service, resulting in a fairly severe injury.....beware of the under-trained, unprofessional, irresponsible food runners and the unnecessary, dangerously scalding Mac and Cheese skillets. My wife loved the French onion soup (I don't eat that shit so I guess I'll take her word for it). Steak and cheese perogies were top notch but the braised short rib sliders were SO FUCKING GOOD. This place is fantastic from environment to food. Decent craft beer selection. I don't know what kind of cheese sauce came with the fries, but sweet-beard-of-Moses it was awesome. And the wings, they do a traditional mild/hot sauce with their own twist that was phenomenal. Monday is 1/2 price wing night too. Sit at the bar or grab a table and watch the game. This place rules. Great beer selection and even better food. The atmosphere is a little odd but I like it; cool bar on one side and carpeted sports bar-ish tables on the other (the bar doesn't look like it'd be a sport's bar). Anyways, to the food: we got everything. Siracha wings were RIDICULOUS. Super spicy and just delicious. Pulled pork nachos were the best nachos I've ever had: you layer the cheese in between you win. Duck sliders: just yes forever. Sweet potato fries were served with marshmallow dipping sauce: WIN. The name of this place is what me us have to go. Best food of any bar or pub in the area. By far. Small plate selections are all distinct and really distinguish the place from the competition. Duck confit quesadillas, duck cheese steak sliders (with either regular or sweet potato fries included), short rib flatbread, and lobster Mac and cheese are all fantastic. For wing fans, their Monday wing night specials are unique and tasty, and the regular bourbon and bacon wings are fantastic. Beer selection is pretty good, and the martinis are very well made. With fun cover bands on the weekend (and a big area for dancing), it is a great place for groups to go for a carefree fun night. Ale Mary's has become my go-to hang out place in Scranton. Nice bar, heckuva beer selection, interesting pub fare (I just can't bring myself to use the term 'gastropub') and just enough tv's to make watching a game possible without feeling like you're in a traditional sports bar. Wings were good, though I'd recommend skipping the PB&J wings (+1 for creativity, but tasted kind of meh). One of, if not the, best bar in Scranton. It is an interesting mix of trendy and sports bar. I was initially drawn to Ale Mary's by a yelp review proclaiming it had the best bar food that reviewer had ever had. It was not hyperbole. Ale Mary's has a great beer selection. Ale Mary's introduced me to Victory's Dirt Wolf, a double IPA that they usually have on tap. In sum, if you are looking for a place to watch a sporting event and want something a bit better than conventional bar food, you gotta check out Ale Mary's. read more

No complaint's! We were in the Scranton area are were looking for somewhere to have dinner. We were going to try the Peculiar Slurp Shop, but I can't eat mushrooms and am a vegetarian, so needless to say we had to look elsewhere. We're so glad we went to Ale Mary's. It was a busy Friday around 6pm, but we were immediately seated even though the place was packed. Friendly service from the time we walked in. Our server quickly took our drink order and brought it to us. We then ordered a burger with sweet potato fries and the pierogi flatbread. My boyfriend enjoyed his burger (but didn't love the sweet potato fries.. they're more like a dessert bc they are dusted with cinnamon and come with a sweet dipping sauce.. we didn't know that). The flatbread was amazing! I cannot wait to go back and get it again. The drinks and food came out in great time and we did not feel rushed. We were pleasantly surprised when we got the bill and our 4 beers were all half off! We had no idea we had arrived during their happy hour. We will definitely be repeat customers. read more
