Burger and Fries

Grabbed a bite after the bowling tournament last week while the DJ was mid-spin and the ladies were in party mode. We were grabbing drinks all night, bartenders and server that was running for the lanes were both friendly and helpful. The food took longer than I would have hoped. There was only one cook on, but one other table ordered before us and then us, and we only got a burger and their "house special" sandwich. Aside from having to wait, I can say that I was pleasantly surprised and this was a quality burger for a bowling alley. It was cooked well, the toppings were fresh, there was a toasted brioche bun, and the fries were crispy but not overcooked. The burger itself was a typical frozen patty but I didn't expect anything more so it worked out just fine. When hungry at the lanes, I'd absolutely grab food here again.

Poor Richard's Pub gets a solid 4 stars for being part of television history and this fangirl could not have been happier to be there in person. It's not exactly where they filmed the scenes (which was most likely a bar in the Burbank area), but it looks like what you expect it will. Biggest surprise is that it's inside the bowling alley. We had the pizza, which was okay. It does have slow service, so be patient. If you venture into the bowling alley you'll spot some signed bowling pins from Angela Kinsey and Brian Baumgartner (Kevin). You gotta go if you're in Scranton, ya know?

Came for The Office reference and stayed for the staff and energy! Was a little embarrassed to be here just because of the office but felt beyond welcomed and glad we went!

Ok so let me start this with I LOVE THE OFFICE! So when I had the opportunity to stop in the city the inspired this amazing show, I'm definitely taking it! And what would an office trip be without a trip to the famous Poor Richard's Bar? Let me warn you that it is in a bowling alley which can be confusing. Also, this is a bar that is not centered around the office. Yes it looks like the bar in the show and they have some pictures of Steve Carell and all that, but it is still a bar. I saw many low reviews for this place, but I think some have forgotten it is first and foremost a bar. We had some pickle fries (which are literally pickles sliced as fries and fried!) and some wings! It was delicious! I'm always a sucker for bar food and this didn't disappoint! Also they have a drink called "That's what she said" and it is DELICIOUS!! It's the girliest and most Michael Scott drink I've ever had! Highly recommend this place for your Office pilgrimage!

Fast service, went after dinner while in town to see the office attractions. We ordered the funnel fries, and my goodness I think I can confidently say that Stanley would stand in line for them with the same enthusiasm as on Pretzel Day. They're that good!

This single photo is, sadly, not worth the slight detour I took on the way from Buffalo to Philadelphia.

I LOVE the office and we detoured a good 15 min out of the way, on the way to Philadelphia, bypassing other Office landmarks that we could've seen, because...let's face it, this is probably the most iconic. The problem is, outside of the chalkboard looking sign in front, there's no real reason to come here...other than to say you were there. We looked online and it said the place opened at 4, had a dining area and the reviews weren't bad. We then looked at the menu and figured it'd be good for us and the kids. We arrived to a bowling alley in a dumpy area of town (at least around the alley it is). Saw no sign of it, this is a fail for the alley and Poor Richards. We hid our valuables and went in. It's 4:35 and there's no hostess immediately seen. The bar tender, a short, white haired guy behind the bar, with tattoos that just couldn't really care less. Finally he says "kitchen isn't open till 5." I scramble to think about what we're going to do because we detoured a bit on our way to Philly after driving all day. He says "you could go to the game room in alley and come back". So we go to the alley and let the kids bowl a few games. The alley was pretty nice and the kids had a blast. We go back to PR after playing a game. It's 5:30 at this point. We do the same thing, stand there waiting. There's more people at the bar and the same bartender says "you have to seat yourselves." Ok, no problem...but no menus. So we get menus off the guy and sit. We figure out what we want and I notice only the bartender and another guy who looks like a kitchen worker are there. The bartender, after awhile tips us off "you have to order at the bar, we don't have a wait staff." Because of these unknowns it's around 6 now and other people at the bar who came in after us ordered food. Well, that put us 3rd or 4th in line, for their sole kitchen worker. My wife and I kept it simple (for speeds sake, we needed to go and we'd already burned 1.5 hours, I mean who goes to Scranton for a vacation?). We ordered BLTs and a small cheese pizza, at the bar, for the kids. We get 4 drinks in plastic cups, that we serve to ourselves, from the bar, lol. Another 45 min to an hour went by. Kids are really antsy at this point and we're all starving. Food comes out, sandwiches in baskets and pizza on a tray. We're from buffalo, so we don't eat sandwiches or pizza with silverware but our 3 year old asked us to cut the pizza a bit smaller. We go back up to the bar, ask for silverware. No response he just walks into the back and gives us one of those bagged plastic knife fork things...yah! It's got a napkin in it sealed in it too! Now we're cooking! Sandwiches were good, it's a BLT but my autistic daughter wanted some and she noticed congealed gooey stuff in the waves of the bacon so she wouldn't eat that. This was after the pizza came out and when I tell you my daughter LOVES pizza, she loves it. She's 5 and limited verbal and not picky with pizza at all but she said "I don't like it" in a very panic'd voice. This is really unusual for her. We had some bagged up strawberries for her in a cooler, I get them for her. We eat and I'm a fat kid who loves pizza, so I decide to help my 3 year old (who eats anything) polish off the rest of the pizza. It quickly becomes apparent to my wife and I why our pizza loving daughter wouldn't eat it, let alone hated the smell of it. They cheese on the pizza was AMERICAN CHEESE! Who does that? It has to be the worst pizza I've ever had. If you ever come to buffalo, it's joked that our gas station pizza is better than your best pizza place's pizza, but I've traveled everywhere and have had a lot of pizza (from Vegas to Washington State). Long story short, this place is a dive bar. They should stick to just serving booze. It's not a bad place but it's dark and you can still smell the smoke coming through the wood and paint from when they still allowed smoking. It's really not worth running out of the way for unless you're younger, don't have kids and have all the time in the world to waste. It's funny because the show kinda gives the same vibe. Like that it's not a great place but if it's convenient and you're depressed, go there. But hey, I can say I went there now. All I got was a lousy shirt (they were out of the color I wanted)...and a photo.

Came as a tourist excited to see the bar from the office! Looked a little sketchy from the outside, and we were a bit confused because we didn't realize it was actually in the bowling alley We were definitely pleasantly surprised on the inside with the incredibly friendly staff and delicious food!!! We ordered a philly cheese steak, sweet potato fries and a beyond burger, and all were amazing!! Cute merch for sale as well! Would definitely recommend, but make sure to lock your car in the park

Location was kinda hidden, they did have an "The Office" themed drink and a souvenir cup. The bartender was ok but seemed kind over the office thing. Wouldn't suggest other the the obligatory visit if you're on the tour.

Poor Richards strikes a bell for every Office fan out there.. But it's still a place to go for the good people of Scranton. Of course the reason I was drawn to stop here on a road trip up north was due to its role that it played in the office. I did my research before coming in so I wouldn't be clueless about the place. It's what Yelp is for. We were lucky enough to be stopping in on wing night so that was a plus. Make sure to keep an eye out for their specials! The wings were tasty and the beer was cold and went down easy. We kept it low key while we were there but we noticed the dundie on the shelf. Of course we wanted to try and get our hands on it. We asked the bartender if he wouldn't mind could we see it. He lets us not only see the award but also another artifact from the show that was signed. Pretty cool!

Wings, pickle chips and premium margarita. We went early and really enjoyed the experience. DJ at the bar was great.

Ask the Community - Poor Richard's Pub

I know it's a pub but my sixteen year old is a huge office fan. Is it family friendly or strictly a bar?

We visited a few months ago and had our 14yo son with us. We got there right as they opened and the bartender said it was perfectly fine for him to come in. While we were there another family came in with teenagers as well who were fellow fans of… Read more
