While they seem to be known for their sandwiches, and for good reason, they have a lot of great artisanal items rooted in Italian cooking. This includes oils, wines, sauces, spices, treats and more. The "more" also includes fresh-made pasta, hand cut meats and cheeses, gelato and a few other absolutely delish items! Back to that sandwich...we were not hungry, but could not pass up a good sandwich, especially one freshly made on locally sourced and baked bread! The bread was the absolutely star of each bite, I mean...sheesh! The sandwich in full was great, and definitely worth the stop in on its own. The store itself is small, but mighty, and well laid out, stocked with all the goods, flows well, clean and in great condition. Service was stellar as well. We were greeted upon entry, checked on while browsing and chatted up while being rang out. Overall, solid spot for a ready-made meal, a special ingredient, a tasty sandwich, fresh pasta, charcuterie or just to wander around in!

I had the prosciutto sandwich and my SO had the pastrami and both had nothing but good things to say as we ate. Alimentari itself is this awesome little deli/grocer with both bagged pastas AND FRESH PASTA/antipasti available to buy, as well as all sorts of goods, breads, coffees, chocolates, beverages and a whole wine selection. Beware that there is no seating inside but definitely do not let this dissuade you from visiting.

But if you were open to just having a nice casual dinner in a retro easy place, this is it. My fiance and I went to meet up with some friends from out of town and from a list of places I wanted to try, they chose this one. Between the two of us, we spent about $60 for this meal, which I suppose now adays is on par with what you can get away with. We also left with half a sandwich because honestly, these guys are huge! -Hot Beef Sando with Cheese (extra): this was a massive sandwich, packed with flavor. The ah jus was on the side and needed for dunking. It hit the spot, was a messy affair, but was very good. The meat wasn't melt in your mouth, it was actually quite dry, but the mix of everything together and the dip made it good overall. - Chili Cup: well spiced, super small cup and charging a dollar for each addition of onion, cheese, and sour cream is murder. Pass on the fixings, the soup doesn't need it, but it's not something i'd get again as it wasn't knock out of the park good. -Homemade Orange Soda: this was great. I love the nostalgia of using Tang and it was more earthy because they put some spices in it. Overall, would get again. -Coleslaw was asian inspired and made well, especially with the mint on top. Be warned though, its the same slaw on the pulled chicken...which speaking of: -Pulled chicken sandwich: It's their meat americanized fusion version of a banh mi. I know they have a vegan one on their menu, but this one felt less like a sandwich. The spices weren't quite asian tho and was interesting with the slaw. I wouldn't say it was my favorite but I did eat a whole half. Happy nomming!

I ordered the Italian sandwich, and it absolutely hit the spot. It was fresh, flavorful, loaded with quality ingredients, and honestly cured my hangover. Sometimes all you need is a really good sandwich, and Casetta delivered. The experience was made even better by the woman at the register. She was so sweet, welcoming, and genuinely friendly. Her kindness made the visit feel even more memorable and was the perfect start to my day. If you're visiting Madison or you're a local looking for an amazing lunch, I can't recommend Casetta Kitchen & Counter enough. Great food, quick service, and wonderful hospitality. Everything tasted fresh and delicious. The atmosphere has an industrial-rustic feel, but the large kitchen right in the center of the space really makes it stand out. Service is quick and operates more like fast food: you order at the counter, then they bring your food out to your table. Just be prepared for a potentially long line depending on what time you go. As for the price, I'm not sure my particular order felt fully worth it. That said, I think I may have made the wrong choice. If I had gone with one of their more adventurous sandwiches, I probably would have felt like it was worth the challenge of dealing with Madison Street parking. Overall, Casetta is definitely worth trying. Everything is fresh, the bread is excellent, and I'd go back to give one of their more interesting sandwiches a shot.

More importantly, it has a menu offering a little bit of everything. Therefore, no one in your group can say they don't see something they like. My dining partner went with the chicken Parmesan sandwich and onion rings. The rings were tasty and my partner barely finished the large sandwich. They said they would get it again. I went with the Hot and Sweet Philly sandwich and fries. The sandwich lived up to its billing. The fries were top notch. While the price for a quick lunch was a little higher than average, it was very good. The service was top notch. Friendly and accommodating, the workers made us feel welcome throughout our visit. We stopped off on a Sunday morning before leaving Madison to head to the Dells. We were able to snag a parking spot on the street pretty much right out front of the place but I did notice that there seem to be a parking lot next-door. we were intimidated by the queue that had formed and was literally no exaggeration, "out the door". I wouldn't say that it moved quickly per se, but quick enough. The time spent on the queue is good for catching up on emails, some self reflection, or perusing the menus that they have stacked on the counter. We finally made it to the register. I ordered a ginger pistachio Matcha (iced of course, in this heat) and GF a banana something latte. The morning bun was fantastic. It almost reminds me of a cruffin. Maybe lighter? It wasn't overwhelming, it was flaky and delicate with a muffin-esque but lighter booty. A delightful breakfast snack. The matcha was out of this world. Such a unique and delicious flavor. It lasted two seconds. GF enjoyed her latte. It wasn't as sweet as I would have liked but for her, someone who doesn't like sweet coffee beverages, it was perfect. You order at the front, and although it was very busy, things moved pretty quickly. We tried the biscuit breakfast sandwich and hot coffee. The bacon and eggs on the sandwich were perfectly cooked, and I loved that it came with jam to balance out the savory flavors and rich cheddar. The biscuit itself was tasty but dry- I think a generous pat of butter and a bit more jam would have done the trick. It came with a tangy arugula salad that lightened up the meal nicely. The coffee was on the watery side but had a good flavor. I do wish we'd picked up some pastries or bread for the road, as I tried some of their sourdough on a sandwich at another local restaurant and it was absolutely delicious.
