one of my regular stores - excellent affordable sliced bread (I get the whole wheat), good produce prices, milk and eggs always on the low side of regional prices. House brands are usually good, and some are great. Their Greek yogurt beats most any yogurt I've had elsewhere, Barissimo German coffee is very good, and the Specially Selected ice cream beats out most of the regular brands for quality. I don't have problems with self-checkout, but use the staffed lane when available to acknowledge the work their staff does. Ok, y'all in Virginia are so fancy with your Aldi's with your whole wine and liquor section. (MD get with the program!) I felt like this location was huge in comparison with others I have visited in MD, DC, and PA! Other than being jealous of the alcohol and such, the aisles were a bit wider and I also loved the wider selection of world food options (pork buns?! Spring rolls?!). The only negative for me is the large number of self-check out stands that we were directed to vice the one cashier working. It made for a longer packing experience but that won't deter me from a future visit. read more

Just left Aldi after checking myself out because they don't take cards of their cashier rings you up. Wow, this store has gone down. I was there the day the store opened. I was there today and headed to check out. they have six self check out lanes. Two are almost always closed. Two others have broken scanner guns. There is one staffed check out lane. I went there and started to unload my cart. The clerk told me he was closing the lane. I asked him why as there were many folks still in line. He had no answer so I asked to speak to a manager. The manager came over and asked if I was paying with cash, if not I was to use a self checkout lane. While I was expressing my frustration, the clerk asked the person behind me to come check out! I spent 42 years in the services industry starting as a clerk and ending up as Director of Customer Services for the Eastern US and Canada. until now, I had never seen anything like this. I'd make more trips here if it was closer. Low prices and decent quantity, that's what Aldi will be to me. I can see why many enjoy grocery shopping here especially if you're on a budget. Items I found that are of bargain value are the vegetables, some of the meats, and yogurt. I would recommend inspecting the items before purchase especially the produce vegetables. The batch of parsley I purchased had some stems that were a bit withered and decaying. Maybe that's why it was so cheap. When you purchase, don't forget to make a donation to the hurricane efforts and Puerto Rico. Especially in times like these. read more

This is my first trip to Aldi. I did some reading where they come from, the store philosophy. It's quite a bit different from pretty much every other grocery store I think I have ever been in. A quarter for a shopping cart....I wasn't walking back to the car for a quarter. Seems a little silly but I only wanted a few things so the big reusable bag will have to work. Organic bananas, ok. Never bought them. No other bananas in the store. Dead green, I guess they will ripen on the counter. Baby carrots, a very good price, lower that HT. Broccoli (organic) was twice the price of HT, so I decided to pass. Cole slaw (very fresh) was also a good buy. Store branded stuff all over the store. I picked up some Cheese Club mac and cheese in a box for a very good price. The Kraft or even HT stuff is expensive anymore. How bad can it be? It's cheese and macaroni. No complaints. Just an eclectic type of store with good deals on some stuff. Lots of organic, lots of the essentials for a good price. read more

I discovered Aldi's early this year (2023). I've discovered that they sell quality meats without nitrites (e.g. ham, hot dogs) and low fat ground beef at far better prices than other stores. I have a milk intolerance and am grateful that Aldi's provides some prepared foods (vacuum packed) without milk, cheese, whey, yogurt. The ingredients are normal foods - like onion, carrot, wheat, bell pepper - normal. They may not be Whole Foods, or Balducci's but they are definitely good quality and better priced. AS GOOD AS IT GETS!! What can I say? Wohooooo, I finally have an Aldi next door again!! As a german immigrant I LOVE Aldi (Aldi is a german chain!!) - we go there because you can NOT beat their prices and because of their german and european products. I love their chocolates (made in Europe!), their wines, some of their cheese specialties, their organic stuff, and I get so super happy when they have German Week, aka Deutsche Woche, in the Spring and in the Fall (could we have it more often maybe? ;) ) PLUS at Aldi, you can cut your grocery bill literally into half thanks to their awesome low prices - yes, they are not lying in their commercials. Oh, and wait till Christmas time!! Around Thanksgiving time they start to sell ORIGINAL German spiced Christmas wine "Glühewein" which you drink hot (in Germany they sell those at Christmas Markets - it's like mulled wine.), as well as all kinds of awesome authentic german christmas goods like chocolates, cookies and ginger breads. The same stuff as they sell at the international section at World Market, just Aldi brand and half the price (!!!) LOVE LOVE LOVE that so much since it makes me happy to get my hands on all those things without having to pay outrageous prices as I would at World Market :) Yes, you need 25 cents for the cart - they do that so you really return it. And yes, the grocery bags cost 5 cents or so, but you want to stop wasting plastic bags anyways right? Remember the environment? They DO take credit card now! This location is brand new, neatly set up, very clean, well organized and in a convenient shopping location. The staff is very friendly and super fast at check-out. We do our bulk and stocking-up shopping here all the time. What we buy and save on a lot are things like the following, just to give you some examples... - Fruits & Veggies - Organic Snacks - Nuts - Organic Granola - Salad Dressings - Coconut Oil - Almond Milk - Greek Yoghurt - Kefir - Green Juices - German Chocolates - German Candy - Wines (the german Riesling is awesome!) - natural Juices - Coffee - European Cheeses & Gourmet Cheeses - Lunch Meats & Deli Meats - Organic Grass Fed Beef - Olive Oils and other European Oils - Granola Bars - Organic Cane Sugar - 12 Grain Bread - Whole Grain Pastas (they even have 'Rice Spagettis') ... and some more other things that I can't think of right now (plus it's too much to write). I have to been to couple of aldi stores in different countys in VA, and this Aldi is very clean compared to other aldi stores. They have amazing prices on certain items and it crazy to see items under $1. Not every item is ridiculously low in price, but you will find items that you need in a daily basis and its a great deal. Tip: Bring a quarter and a bag. You will need the bag to carry your groceries. They do not provide plastic bags like other groceries stores, but they do offer their "aldi bag" if you are in need of one. ** By the way try their large pizza which ranges from $5-$7 it is delicious** read more

This location has improved so much since they first opened. And their response to the current situation has made me an even bigger fan. I have been able to get essentials here, such as fresh produce, eggs, and chicken, when bigger stores were sold out. They are providing sanitized carts, limiting the numbers in the store, and have great safety measures in place for their employees. Aldi brand products have consistently been just as good as higher priced name brands. Produce overall is of good quality and fresh; I do avoid sweet potatoes, since I've heard from others that they tend to spoil quickly. They have limited staff, which means I often wait in line for longer than I'd like to, but the cashiers are super fast and very friendly. The selection is limited and changes often, but the basics are very consistent, and shopping here has saved me a lot of money. Definitely an Aldi fan! read more

Aldi is not your typical grocery store. Here's a few differences in case you haven't been. 1. To get a shopping cart it will cost you a quarter and you'll get your quarter back when you return your cart so it discourages laziness in returning your cart. 2. Don't expect to find baskets either. 3. Need a bag that will cost you too. So the size of the store is probably about the third of the size of other local grocery stores. They have a decent selection of basic pantry filler items. They don't really have much in the way of meat and produce. They also have a small refrigerated and freezer section. Most of the items they do stock are their own brand. Although they do have a few brand names items sprinkled in. The check out is what made me drop my review from 3 to 2 stars. So I stroll up to the register area and don't see anyone. So I walk towards another line thinking that maybe another on was open. Because that's what most people at normal grocery stores do. Instead the cashier tells me "oh I'll be right over. If you don't see someone just wait a moment and they'll be over". Ok. Thanks but I don't have ESP so I can't read the minds of the cashiers there. It was more of how she said it which annoyed me. Also just a heads up you've got to bag your own stuff. Also they only accept cash, debit, or EBT only. read more

Have just begun to be addicted to Aldi. Aldi is my go to place for church good pantry donations. I get the needed list and load up on canned fruits, vegetables, beans. Lots 9f canned fruits and veggies for .49 or .59 cents. I can buy way more for the pantry. I have just started shopping for myself there. Milk, cow or plant are all dirt cheap. Fresh vegetables both conventional and organic are also really well priced. They have an odd ailse with Aldi Finds. It is like a curiosity shop. You might find cookware, throw blankets, small kitchen appliances, space heaters who knows. They are mostly their own brand but today I saw Coke and Nescafé. I bought a bunch of salad bowls for just 2 89. Way cheaper than same salad mixes at Safeway or Giant. A cheap lunch for work. Yay! I am getting sucked in, I gotta say. I am liking the savings. So yeah there is the quarter for a cart deposit. No free bags, they are .10 cents but reusable, or I brought my own sturdy reusables. Lines are normally fast too. read more

For what it is, Aldi is fine. The meat, yogurt, and cheese selection isn't very large because the store is small as it is. I spent a majority on veggies and fruits, anyway. The prices are great, and I had a $10 off $40 or more mailed to me. HOWEVER, BEWARE of the produce. The rock bottom prices should've been a warning; I came home an noticed 2 days later, an odd smell. The big bag of potatoes I bought had one potato in there mushy, rotting, and horrifyingly disgusting. I had to toss the whole bag because the smell already impermeated the other spuds. Sigh. This Aldi was surprisingly clean and easy to find things. There's a small selection of wine and beer in the first aisle. The cheapest wine in town! Similar to other Aldi locations, bring a quarter if you are trying to use a cart, or else you'll have to carry everything. And your own bags! I saw people using leftover cardboard boxes to carry there groceries to the car. There were only 2 cashiers working when I was in line. I wished they had more cashiers or self checkouts but they moved reasonably quick. read more

Why I've never written a review for Aldi, I couldn't even tell you. But this is long overdue. I went to Aldi maybe 10 years ago and absolutely hated it. I hated that it didn't really look like a regular grocery store and that it was small and that I didn't recognize a lot of the brands. Fast forward to a few months ago and one of my best friends from high school was raving about them and good ol' google led me to some GREAT blogs about why people are in love with Aldi. I also found out that they are huge in the international market (winning a bunch of Supermarket of the Year Awards) and that the owners also own Trader Joe's (another love). I was sold. I gave it another chance, and i have not shopped anywhere else since. The grocery is still much smaller than your average store which means a lot of the hard to find items probably won't be there. But for your basic grocery shopping (meat, produce, dairy, etc), it's all there. And for MUCH cheaper than any other store. You can also find a ton of Organic products for a non-organic price. You will see some popular brands there along with those that I believe are sold only in Aldi. But for me, as long as it's good quality, the brand doesn't matter too much. I have been talking about Aldi to everyone I know, and highly recommend anyone reading this to just try it out. But a couple of tips before going: 1) You need a quarter (25 cents) to use a cart. This sounds crazy, but it actually works to keep their parking lots clear of runaway carts. The carts are held together by a seat belt looking mechanism that only releases with a quarter. This quarter stays in place until you return your cart and once you do, you get your quarter back. And it's not as complicated as I'm explaining it to be. 2) You will be charged for a bag (a few cents for plastic, paper, etc. all available at checkout), so bring your own or use one of the empty boxes they have available in bins throughout the store - Costco style. 3) Don't be discouraged if the checkout line is long. They usually only have one or two cashiers available, but they are FAST. Like really fast. So much so that I'm clamoring to put my items onto the conveyor belt before they're done ringing up the items on there. Did I mention they sell wine? Bottles for like.. $5? I think I may have seen some for even a little less. Enough said. Just go. read more

This has to be the worst store I have been too there's always a long line but yet when confronting the store manager about it she prides herself on how (40 product per second is) there standard. What about your customers and you poor cashier working their butt off. I it was my store, I would hop on a register, instead of hiding in the GMs office watching. I love Aldi, and so does my wallet. Since I've started shopping here consistently, our grocery bills have gone way down. They have a great selection of produce which I've found to be just as good as, if not better, than other local grocery stores. I haven't had the problem of it spoiling quickly as some others have stated. I've also never run into poor customer service as was one of the other common complaints. Their inventory changes frequently, but I can usually find most of what I need to buy for the week. Their brand name stuff is really good, and they have a great selection of organic items...everything from produce to dairy to meat. Yes, there are a few items they don't carry that I have to get at Wegmans, but for the most part, I'm very happy shopping here. read more

Take nothing away from the fact that we finally have an ALDI in Sterling now and that we need more grocery stores like this in the area, the location in which space occupies is entirely too small. The parking lot is always jammed packed, so do yourself a favor and park on the back row where there's less congestion. The lines in the store are usually long, but again that's not because it's crowed it's just due the the lack of space in the store itself. If they cut their inventory by 1/5 and re-organized the shelves then it would allow for better navigating the space as well as expanding the check-out area. read more

Wow, this place opened with a Bang. It was nice to have a local, low priced grocer nearby. We were definitely customers and Fans. Over the past month, something has happened. The shelves are bare. The help is non existent. Today, we left with just a few items we could find on our list. No Kleenex, no red pepper, the wine we buy is out of stock, no butter lettuce, etc... If we are going to have to fill in at Safeway each time we shop there, we might as we go the extra few miles to the Walmart Superstore where we can buy the groceries we need. Aldi, you need to decide if you are in business in Sterling or not. We have many grocery choices and more coming. read more

When Aldi opened in Sterling, it was the best day of my life. I grew up going to Aldi with my mom, trying to find unattended carts so I could get that quarter. I know some people come in and don't get the quarter for a cart thing (you get it back when you put the cart back!) or get mad that they have to pay for bags (I always bring extra reusables and give them out if someone needs them just so they won't get bad feelings towards the store!), but it's so worth it for those low, low prices. Aldi doesn't have a huge selection, which is great for me. I can stand in the peanut butter aisle for a half hour comparing brands, and don't even get me started on the bread aisle, so only 1 or 2 choices is great for me. They do have organic fruit, which is cool, and a huge selection of gluten free food, which is probably cool if you're gluten free. The cashiers are always super friendly. I'm looking forward to the day I can quit my job and work at Aldi because managers make $16.25/hour and cashiers get to sit down!!! read more

Stopped by yesterday to buy some tomatoes for my new spaghetti recipe! The produce was amazing and very fresh. Once I found tomatoes a very nice and pretty lady Ariel helped me at the register. I am a huge Aldi fan ever since moving to Sterling about a year ago - we shop almost weekly at Aldi. But what prompted my to give the review today is that when I went to buy my normal "Never Any" Brand Chicken I spotted LOCAL and ORGANIC chicken!! It blew my mind - I am very excited. I bought the whole chicken and 2 packs of the chicken breasts. I hope this will become a regular item - but as all Aldi shoppers know, many items are not permanent. I shop at Aldi to save money and to get their great Organic options at a GREAT price and this just made my week! read more

I'm not sure what kind of European would get excited about this store - saw a store full of American products and no fresh food of European origin. We did buy some inexpensive outdoor cushions. We were hoping this was going to be a closer Trader Joe's for us but not even close. I love Aldi, or at least used to, so I was super excited when this one opened in Sterling last year. We shopped there about weekly. Friendly employees with great, quick service, low prices, quality products, great place to shop. I would have given it 5 stars. BUT in the last two months it has gone downhill so fast. They completely re-did the store. I have no idea why. It's mostly or all new employees, and they don't smile. The shelves are disorderly. They're out of stuff all the time (this was actually a problem before too, but it's been whole shelves bare lately). The check-out lines are long, or I should say 'line' because they don't seem to open more lines when busy anymore. They no longer have those bags to put loose fruits and vegetables in. I went today for the first time in a while and there was a very loud alarm of some sort going off most of the time I was there. What in the world happened? They do still have good products for low prices. That's what the one star is for. read more

The food is fresh and the prices are good, but the employees and customer service is disappointing. Everytime I shop in Aldi I get overcharged. Frequently the cashier rings up the same item twice. This is only apparent after you've checked out and can review th receipt--so you have to wait in line to complain and get a refund. Also, cashiers are rough with items and, after scanning an item, they don't place it gently in your cart. Heavy items like cans and bottles are thrown on top of delicate items like eggs, bread, and pastries. I suggest increased employee training on these customer service matters. read more
