I had one of the most disrespectful and frustrating shopping experiences I've ever had at this store. A new checkout line opened and the cashier clearly called out to me -- "I can help you over here, sir." As I stepped forward, a woman behind me rushed ahead, cut directly in front of me, and dumped her items onto the counter. The cashier said nothing and immediately began checking her out, without even glancing at me. It was humiliating. What's the point of having a line if people can just ignore it and cut ahead with zero consequences? Even someone further back in line offered to let me go first -- they could see what had happened -- but by that point I was too shocked and honestly hurt to continue. I returned all my items and left. It stayed with me the rest of the day and even now, I still can't shake how wrong it felt. This isn't just about one rude customer -- it's about the store allowing that behavior to happen, unchallenged, right in front of them. If respect and basic fairness can't be upheld at checkout, I have no reason to shop here again. read more

GENERAL I came in midday on a weekday to grab a couple of items. They have a wide selection of just about everything, and it's all neatly organized. I had some trouble finding the seaweed (the teriyaki flavor is divine), as I usually find it by the chips but here it's on top of the frozen goods. Half of both packs I got was wilted, which was unfortunate since I've never had this happen before. Otherwise, a solid store with a great selection of quality items! Definitely recommend their green goddess and cilantro lime dressings when visiting! SERVICE The staff are kind and friendly. AMBIANCE The store is neat and tidy. I have to say recently very disappointed with Trader Joes. A few weeks ago I purchased an Olive Plant and placed in a sunny window and watered appropriately.....its dead. Next the following week I purchased 2 Amarillo plants to give as gifts they are half dead. The same day I grabbed a selection of cheeses...by the weekend several developed mold. Traveling can be disorienting sometimes and part of me usually longs to find something familiar if only to visit for a few minutes. Recently on a trip to VA I was meeting up with some friends at a nearby diner and much to my delight there was Trader Joe's right in the same parking lot. I wandered in and was struck by how similar this TJ's was to the one I usually go to in Westfield, NJ. It is about the same size and when you enter, there are flowers to the left, some produce in front and then angled aisles that even lead to a section with wine and liquor in the back. Some of the layout is a bit different, but overall everything felt familiar and finding what I was looking for was super easy. I credit this in part to how wonderfully organized all the shelves were. Nothing was out of place and I was impressed. I wound up picking up some suntan lotion since my supply was dwindling on this trip. Check out was a breeze. The cashiers were super nice and we had a nice little chat since I was there in the morning and there were almost no other customers in the store. I know they're supposed to do that, but it's still cool when they do it well and make you feel welcome. I generally don't review my local grocers, but I'm really loving the friendly community-feel that this TJ vibes. Outside of the somewhat frustrating, but understandable, directional parking, the parking spots are much larger than a traditional TJ parking lot. The store is a decent size and set up in the traditional fashion. I am able to find the classics without issues, and the new finds are clearly labeled! Now the service has been the best too. Employees around the store are quick to help. Those in the front grab you to help check out your buys in a blink of an eye all while striking up conversations. Every time I got, I met a new friend! I love this place! They carry such unique and inexpensive items! One of my favorites to get here are the various flavors of the apple cider vinegar sparkling drinks! They are so good! People here are very nice and accommodating. They don't just point me to where things are, but actually walk you to it and if there aren't any more if the items on the shelf, they'll go to the back to see if they have anymore in stock. If they do, they'll bring it out for you! They also ask if I've checked my eggs to make sure I don't go home with cracked eggs! They keep their stores clean and have a friendly ambiance! read more

Always a good experience. The store is small enough- your neighborhood "go to" that you quickly can run through and pick up your desired foods. Trader Joe's Is the ONLY grocery store that has enough cashier's to get you in and out quickly. The cashiers and stockers are ALWAYS ready to lend an extra hand if you need it. Never has any employee been rude or too busy to not immediately respond to my request if I can't find an item. They all jump. Whoever created the hiring requirements and store philosophy of customer expectations was brilliant. The level of service, ambiance, and food selection caters to everyone. There have been a couple times when the store was out of what I came for, but with a customer base like they have, that seems inevitable. This is your standard Trader Joe's that keeps shelves constantly stocked and employees always busy ringing up customers. I don't think I've ever been to this store during off hours, so it gives me the impression that the store is always busy as well. The store also feels very clean and checkout is usually a breeze! Employees are friendly and they make the process seamless. The only thing I dislike is the parking lot. Because it's packed, going in and out of the lot out front is sometimes a nightmare. Sometimes I can't find a spot, so I have to park across the street in a different lot. Not too inconvenient though, but they could definitely benefit with more parking space. read more

This is about flowers only. For the second time in a row I've bought flowers at this Trader Joe's and when I unpack them they're wilting or dead. It's hard to see when they're all scrunched up but as soon as you take them apart they flop over and I have to throw half of it out. I buy weekly flowers from Trader Joe's in Arlington and I find them to be terrific. Everything else about the Reston Trader Joe's is fine but I would avoid the flowers at the shop. read more

I love this Trader Joe's branch. It's so close to Reston Town Center and other little shops as well as Home Depot so I get to drop off the hubby while I do some grocery shopping! I came in here with my sister to get some Valentine's dinner and goodies. We lucked out with the parking spot and got a nice spot right away. The place was packed! Everyone was doing some last minute shopping like us. They had some really nice flowers that weren't as expensive as the roses (I think they're too overrated anyway). My sister got a bunch of purple flowers for less than $4 and they looked so pretty. She also got a small succulent as a nice Vday present which costed $1.99 (score!). They had a tasting for the chocolate heart shaped cake and it was delicious. They also had a few samples of wine and some Secco bottles (see pictures). The guy giving us the wine samples explained to us what the Secco was and was very patient with us. I tried the strawberry and peach bottles. Both were so good that we ended up getting one bottle of each. I was planning on making some breakfast for dinner so it would really go well with our meal. I can't wait! I got a couple of vegetable bird's nest boxes for appetizers. I've heard some good reviews for it so I wanted to try it for myself. I also got a whole loaf of french baguette to go with my home made bruschetta sauce for appetizers. My sister got some pork tenderloin that another customer told us she loves getting and even shared her recipe with us (double score). I would give Trader Joe's 5 stars but their parking lot is terrible. The store is too small and the parking lot is too small. Avoid peak hours on Saturday. Otherwise it's a great alternative to regular grocery stores. If you do not have the time to cook there are lots of alternatives here. read more

I think that I may be one of the last folks living in Reston, to find out that Trader Joe's is a very nice little grocery store. The people working there all seem to be cheerful and helpful. This and the prices of the things that my wife and I use most; are cheaper than Giant, Harris Teeter, and Wegmans. The reason for the lower prices was explained to me by a checker, who said that Trader Joe's pays cash for most of what they sell, and vendors offer price breaks because of that. Trader Joe's is not some Joe Schmo of a grocery store. They have locations all over NOVA/DC with a small-town image. This location is smaller than I anticipated but it's the closest one to me and my curiosity got me to stop by to see why everyone raves about it. It's easy to see why people love the fresh protein and veggies and there's a good amount of non-GMO and organic items to be found. I was hoping to find sandwiches (maybe I didn't look in the right section) but I settled for their turkey and spinach wrap which was almost close enough. Of course I couldn't come just for a quick bite so I ventured to the beer/wine section. This was what people rave about: exclusive craft beers and inexpensive international wines. Don't bother coming for Bud light or yellow tail Chardonnay, take your bland selves to the 7-11 on elden street if that's what you came for. Expand your mind to uniqueness such as watermelon IPA from Ballaste Point or their $7.99 Portico Da Ria Albariño from the white exotic grapes of Spain; both purchased by yours truly. Love this store! Great prices and employees. Employees are helpful and motivated to be at their best. They always have a smile and always make sure you can find what you are looking for. They have most of the things I purchase, but some things I have to go to other stores and that is ok. It's a few minimal things that I don't buy very often and aren't carried at Trader Joe's. The parking lot at this store isn't terribly large so recommend going at off times, like middle of the day weekdays or weekday evenings. Weekends are packed at most times of the day. Cashiers are excellent and get you quickly out with minimal bags if you asked them to be packed full. I prefer it that way. Highly recommend this unique store. read more

This Trader Joe's is my go-to shopping center. They literally have everything. I've always been a....do I even dare to say it?... Whole Foods, kinda girl. But honestly, I have come to my senses. I come to this location very often, at least twice a week. The employees are kind and parking is never an issue...if you go during the week. On the weekends, the parking lot is a mess! Their prices are literally unbeatable. Along with the wide variety of food they have. You name it, they got it. I highly recommend their Charles Shaw wine, AKA Two Buck Chuck. Though I'm a big Cab drinker, their Shiraz is amazing. read more

I come here every week and although there are times where I feel like I overspend (ok a lot of the times lol) but their produce and meats are fairly priced. They have the riced cauliflower that I love, a variety of cheese/wine, great frozen selection and different novelty items for a decent price. If you're ever doing one of the popular diets such Weight Watchers, Whole 30 or Keto, this store is an essential! The staff are pretty nice when they're not drowning with customers. The big con is how everyone loves traders and the parking lot is a nightmare. Key is to go on a weekday... when you can actually find parking. read more

Really disappointed in today's shopping experience. I religiously shopped this location thru the continued pandemic and was always impressed by their line management, and cap on customers in store. Today's experience was far from that - it was unsafe. No aisle directionals, and legitment people on top of people. Aisles are too narrow to ensure 6 foot distancing. Maybe a wise idea to scale back the capacity again. I do recognize today's a holiday and it's busy but I felt unsafe. I grabbed one item and left. COVID is on the rise. Why TJs has dropped their safety protocol is disheartening. I will not be back. read more

All of the employees were wearing turkey hats. No, not like a feathered headdress. Imagine a cartoon cooked turkey like you'd see in Tom & Jerry. Now imagine someone wearing that. Y'know, with their head stuck up the turkey's ass with the drumsticks pointing up like antennae. Yes. Now tell me that you wouldn't shop here just for that. Honestly, TJ's isn't terribly cheap. But what they have tends to be solidly good quality. I appreciate being able to stop in, grab a couple of inexpensive gourmet ingredients, and not pay Whole Foods prices for the stuff. Ok I'm way overdue on an update. I went here today, and for a 1:30PM on a Monday the place was packed, I was having to carefully navigate with my shopping cart. Not to mention the parking lot is a pain in the rear, it doesn't seem like its gotten any better, in fact I think its gotten worse from my previous review. Hence the 3 stars although honestly I'd still give it 3.5 stars. The quality and value of the items you can get here is great, no issue with that at all. The store is a bit small and really when its crowded it is difficult if you are shopping with a cart. Also the other reason I've lowered my rating, the lack of stuff, there was no bacon to be found there. And I did carefully screen the meat section. Had I known I would have stocked up at the TJ store by my job last week. Overall the staff is friendly and helpful its just the other things that sort of bring this place down, the size of the store overall, and the parking lot. I still love you TJ's in Reston but I might have to start stopping by the Rockville store after work as that one is a whole lot bigger. I just have to remember to bring my bags to that particular store since Mont. County charges. read more

Two and a half stars. Tucked back from the road behind the Silver Diner. Ties as one of the smallest store & parking lot combos I've ever seen from a TJ. Parking close to the entrance can be a bear, as a few others have pointed out, but the shadowy corner furthest from the entrance has yielded a spot for me time and time again. The cashier on my first visit was kind enough to recommend keeping the mochi flat as I helped him bag, but I assured him that they wouldn't last long enough for travel orientation to matter. Needs more vanilla bean paste out of season. Snap peas were hiding on a clip column in a row quite far from the rest of the snacks. The blue chips and white cheddar popcorn I've often seen at other branches were not present, forcing me to test drive an unimpressive bag of sweet potato ripple cut chips. Similarly, don't understand why the Tejava and Orangina were in separate aisles. Key inventory items aside, I think this reflects poor organization due to the frozen goods' centralization splitting the aisles. 3.5 stars This Trader Joe's is the closest one to my house, but I wish it were a little bigger! The selection always seems to fall short here when I'm looking for something in particular, (but probably because it's usually a seasonal item that runs out quick)! I do recall the workers being friendly if I needed to find something. I love Trader Joe's so if I'm craving something in particular like their macarons, frozen foods, or even cider I'll definitely stop by. They have great quality items for a very fair price. But most times I'm dissuaded from going to this location because of the constant traffic coming in and out of the parking lot and store. Clean, cozy store close by to the home depot. I love going to trader joes for wine and healthy chip snacks! It's like everyone is on vacation mode - the staff seem happy and their customer service is consistently superb. They have great deals on wine bottles and a pretty good selection of beers. My fiancé loves the protien bars here - he always gets them and they don't disappoint. This is our main stop for wine on a budget. There is often some sort of food sampling that takes place in the back of the store and possibly a wine tasting as well so make sure to do a full loop and head to the back for some tasty treats . read more

Phenomenal service! I've heard this about this chain of stores but I didn't start shopping here until recently. I've attempted to eat clean and healthy and Trader Joe's doesn't disappoint. This store is clean. The employees go above and beyond to help. I recently hosted some friends and this was my go to for appetizers. When I was unable to locate an item before check out, one of the employees found it and brought it to me to take home to try for free. This goes a long way with me!! Disappointed with associate's customer service. This evening was my first time in Trader Joe's. There was no line and no sign regarding carts from where I parked on the side. The store is poorly lit on the outside and surrounding area. Unaware of the cart protocol, I picked a cart from the side and started walking in. A young associate obnoxiously grabbed the cart. I was stunned and asked if I could at least use a cart. She said she thought I was returning a cart since it was dirty, and handed me one. Upon leaving she grabbed my cart with my groceries still in the basket and gave an attitude when I left. This was my first time here this evening and after encountering this associate, will be my last. I understand this is a business model to urgently serve the customer however, to a new customer this translated as obnoxious and unwelcoming. read more

Overall I would say this is a below average Trader Joe's. Selection is average to below average. Quality of produce is average. Where they are losing me is the staff and their payment processing machines. Their machines are always messing up when I try to run a card. It's a 10 minute back and forth of swiping card and inserting chip. After 10 minutes or so I leave frustrated without what I shopped for. I now only come here with cash (which I rarely have). The staff is typically subpar and blames me for it. I know that can enter the card number because they did it once. I'd suggest any other TJ or the moms down the street read more

I'm from the west where we had TJ's back in the 80s when I lived in CA. When I moved to northern VA in 92, I really missed TJ's. I was so excited when TJ's opened in Reston several years ago. However, I find the Reston location is far too small with more limited product offerings and parking is the worst I've ever seen for any store especially given its popularity. The TJ's in Reston needs to be moved to a much bigger location where there's more parking and the store size is bigger. The Reston location is just way too small plus there's always congestion throughout the store due to its narrow aisles. After going to TJ's in One Loudoun, I couldn't believe the difference in size as I could easily move my cart through the aisles plus there's plenty of parking not to mention more product offerings. No comparison as to which TJ's is more enjoyable to shop at. The Reston location needs to be moved to a bigger area where the size of the store can be increased and have much more parking. read more
