Like many grocery stores, prices here tend to be higher than Costco or Walmart. My review, however, is focused on the pharmacy. For years, I have used this pharmacy for prescriptions and vaccinations. The staff has generally been friendly and professional. Olga is especially kind and helpful, and pharmacist "N" is exceptionally skilled at administering shots--they are always quick and virtually painless. Although this store is no longer conveniently located for me due to changes in my shopping habits, I continued using the pharmacy because of the positive experiences I had with the staff. Unfortunately, recent service issues have changed my opinion. I went to pick up a prescription refill more than a week after the automated system indicated it would be ready, only to find it had not been filled. The staff apologized and asked me to return the next day, but it still was not available. I was then informed there were supplier issues and was given only a partial refill. In addition, my doctor's office had sent in another prescription, but when I stopped by, I was told nothing had been received. I requested a text notification when it became available, but I never received one. When I called several days later, I was told the prescription had already been ready. While I appreciate the pharmacy staff and the excellent service I received over the years, the recent communication and prescription fulfillment issues have led me to transfer my prescriptions to Giant going forward. read more

Visited this location on a Saturday around 11am - the store wasn't busy at all. The store itself was very clean. The woman working in the floral department was super sweet and added fresh roses to the bouquet we picked. The staff at the self checkout was helpful with figuring out Apple Pay. I do feel that Harris teeter prices are a little high but for the quality of the store, it's expected and ultimately not a big deal. (However, 6 organic apples ended up costing $16) :O read more

They took out the soup bar, bread bar, salad bar...none of the pre made meals other Harris Teeters have...pharmacy takes almost two days to perform a refill...produce section severely cut back...I could go on and on. How can anyone with a functioning nose handle working or shopping? As you walk in the door you are hit by a wall of stench. Smells like a sewage plant. There no way to shop veggies, fruits, bakery, or meat as your best hope of not puking is to run to the dry grocery section. Isn't there a health inspection system in this county? I wouldn't go to the pharmacy here if you need to have your meds filled same day with any degree of certainty. Waiting multiple hours is the norm, and your service is going to depend heavily on who is working that day. They often keep you guessing and worried if they're going to fill your meds or not. If you get Edward, you're likely just going to need to stand in front of him the entire time you need your prescription filled or he'll forget. If he goes to lunch and says he'll fill it after you will need to be there when he gets back from his lunch break to remind him. I know it's rude but if you value your own time this is the only way you're gonna leave without burning an hour or more waiting. This was not a one time thing. Your prescriptions are filled at their leisure. The final straw was when a prescription pad got wet and they were ready to not fill the meds based on that. Everything was perfectly legible on the pad. I'd been a customer for like three years and they would have known the prescription was valid because it aligned perfectly with when it ran out based on the last fill date. Instead of simply filling it, knowing that it was a valid prescription, they instead insisted on calling the doctors office (it was closed). They eventually filled it, but not after a solid hour of wondering how I was going to work/function without my meds. The pharmacist then acted like he was going "above and beyond" for filling this valid prescription. This is what you can expect if you go here. Another time, my address was missing on a prescription my doctor wrote. Instead of writing the address, or allowing me to write it, they insisted that I call the doctor's office to re transmit the same information. Luckily this time the doctor's office was open. Again, they had a record of me going there for 3+ years as well as the prescriptions they dispensed and when. I'm lucky to have doctors that are responsive but I would have been totally screwed without that. read more

Not my usual HT as I really don't like the layout of this location. However we stopped in as we had dinner in the center. The highlight of this visit was the extra special help I got from Blake at checkout. After 3 plastic bags tore I asked two gentleman at the front if I could get paper... I had gone thru self checkout and only plastic is in those lanes Blake on my request setup two bags together as he saw I had some heavy sodas and added two additional bags so I could transfer the rest. At This Harris Teeter an employee named Oscar close the doors 6 minutes before their official closing time. I asked why are they closing before 11pm and could I just run in to get two gallons of HT water. He just said they were close because it's nearly 11pm. Advised him to charge the posted closing times online & on the store front so people near by know the official closing time this HT locks it's doors. If the doors lock at 10:50p then put that in the store hours. 11pm is a lie. Most Harris Teeter generally have good customer service but this entire situation was unprofessional & a waste of a regular customer's time. read more

This is a great local store with an always very friendly and helpful staff. Special kudos to Robin at the bakery. Looked at several places around town for a baby reveal cake or cupcakes needed same day with no luck. Called Robin who said if you'd have it by the end of the day. She recommended and made the perfect cake that was a huge hit and surprised everyone - to include me. AND, the cake was delicious! read more

Don't love this location. Although it's close, things are in odd spots and some items seem to be more expensive here. The staff have been nice. Got subs for lunch and although the gentleman that helped me was so kind, the meatballs looked dry with barely any sauce and the tuna looked unappetizing. Three and a half stars. There's an interesting late night subculture here. Staff's extra friendly in recognizing regulars, probably because they're so bored. As always, use your VIC card. The dings downward from four stars are for A) the annoying pillars partitioning the parking lot from the thru lane. Visibility is almost zilch until you've edged halfway out, so navigating the lot can be slow going during daytime hours. B) Service may be friendly, but sometimes they're so useless it boggles me. Two staff members will hang out and "supervise" the four self-checkout stations instead of opening a register. In one instance only one staff member was on checkout duty, and the stations were closed despite just the single register open. Stems their losses from fraudulent produce shoppers, I guess. Then there was the plantain fiasco, where I called HT from work (and was forwarded to the produce department) to make sure they had plantains in stock... and when I arrived they had ONE. I could've stopped at 5 other stores on the way home had I known. Cheese selection wanes in comparison to Whole Foods, and the dates on the individually packed wedges tend to be overly optimistic. Heirloom tomatoes looked a little sketchy. On average, the non-organic produce quality is good enough that if I need some raw ingredients for the next day in a pinch, I won't whine too much about coming here. read more

I used to do all my shopping at the Giant on Elden Street---that is until one of the men who loiter there followed me to my car and tried to unload my groceries for me in the hopes I'd pay him! Also, I was beginning to feel that the store was getting "tired". The produce and the sushi selections had gone downhill. So...one day my husband and I decided to give Harris Teeter a try and we were quite impressed. The selection was far better than Giant, the produce was better quality as was the sushi. Not to mention that the staff is friendlier and more helpful. At Harris Teeter you are always asked if you need help with your groceries when going to your car. One thing that left us so impressed that I wrote to headquarters about---I was shopping one day and when the groceries were being rung up, as usual, I kept an eye on things so that nothing got left behind. I thought I caught everything but when I got home, I noticed a few items missing. Since it was now rush hour, I didn't relish the thought of going back to the store. So I gave the store a call and told them what happened. They asked what was missing and then told me they would bring it to my house free of charge! Not only did they bring the missing items but they gave me a $10 gift certificate! If that had happened at Giant, you know they would have told you to come and get it. However, I wish I could get everything I needed at Harris Teeter but I won't mark the rating down over this. It seems that every supermarket you shop at, this is a problem. I still pop into a Giant occasionally to pick up some items. Also, while Harris Teeter has a good selection of vegan items, they're nowhere near as well-stocked as Whole Foods. The only thing I really dislike about shopping at this particular Harris Teeter---the parking situation. Although they do have a garage, I prefer to park in the lot part. However, the sightlines are terrible when going around corners. Whoever designed that parking lot, did a terrible job! read more

Beautiful store, best looking and best stocked I've been in in the Herndon area. Can be a little pit spendier, but if you look at the ads, use your VIC card, and look for less expensive items, it's in line with other stores in the area. It's actually got the lowest price on gallons of milk (within a short drive, anyway), and their other prices have never struck me as obscenely high, and I'm more or less poor. The deli section is hit or miss; great meat and cheese selection (Boarshead) and good MTO sandwiches. Their fried and roasted chicken choices are reasonably priced and tasty, but some of the items I've tried from their deli (mac and cheese, take-and-bake pizzas, etc.) have been abysmal. Just freaking abysmal. God. That pizza. Why? How? There are to Redbox machines out front which is nice for when you want to be twice as indecisive. I've had mostly bleh encounters with checkers. They're not actively rude, but I've been greeted "coldly* and often don't get any form of thanks or good-bye, even though I make it a point to always thank them and wish them well (because retail solidarity). I get slightly better treatment from the self-check lane. Not the person manning it, but from the actual machines. Awesome wine and beer selection, best of any grocery stores in the vicinity, and there is a liquor store next door if you need something with a little more oomph. Meat counter and bakery are lovely and offer great options. The cheese section is great for *Herndon*, but it's not big enough for me, and a lot of the real estate is taken up by spreads and "novelty" cheeses instead of the thousands of cheeses from around the world that they could have. If their checkers learn to smile and they imprison the person who makes their T&B pizzas, I will gladly bump this up to five stars. read more

Half the people who work in it lack basic customer service training. They will come rush you out at closing without even offering to help you find your last few items. Just tell you to get out. Updating my earlier 5-star review to include the Bakery. Yes, we've bought cakes and pies from the other major grocery chains, but Harris Teeter is the best BY FAR! Their prepared items are always fresh and rich, but not too sugary (I'm talking about YOU "Half-Cake Friday"). Theirs is the only pumpkin pie we will put on our Thanksgiving table, but we love their key lime and chocolate silk pies, too. We also just ordered an 8" birthday cake and it was beautifully decorated with icing flowers and the birthday message written on top in the most elegant cursive handwriting. Nestled in a shopping plaza near the Clocktower, this Harris Teeter is unassuming...until you walk in. After getting used to the Shirlington location, the Herndon HT comes off as a monstrosity due to its size and variety. Best thing about this place is the number of lunch options at the deli of you need to get a grab and go for that busy office day. Parking is a bit of a mess though as there is not enough parking to accommodate the restaurant patrons in the same plaza. If you're there for regular groceries, time it away from the lunch and happy hour times that will choke the lot. read more

Two sections---the floral department and the bakery/deli---- keep me coming back despite the un-navigable parking lot. I've been hit twice here and my poor little lexus has collected other various other dings and scrapes due to the planner's 1-- either poor geometry skills or 2-- his distorted near future vision of a world where people drive only microcars. Outside of parking and the superstar departments, the rest is a positive-- but standard grocery store experience. it's a place where the staff know your face if not your name and where loyal customers who say hello are rewarded with fresh intel on what is new and tasty, like arrivals of wensleydale with either cranberries and apricot or the best capicollo for your muffuletta, or fragrant, long lasting stargazer lilies, or the new petit fours that are a big hit. Moon, the florist here, is really talented and makes beautiful and creative arrangements you'd expect to find at a specialty florist at much higher prices. You can bring in your own vase and she specially crafts a custom arrangement for you for any occasion, charging only for the flowers. You'll want to request her by name. Alan, who works deli and bakery, creates beautiful patisserie and takes a lot of pride in his work and his treatment of customers. He shares his latest culinary and baking finds and makes everyone feel like he's truly happy to serve them. The rest of the store is pretty well-stocked with five different eggplant varieties in produce and Weekly email specials. There is an ok salad bar but wish the management would carry Castelvetrano olives on the bar. That and the parking are my only complaints to an otherwise fantastic shopping experience. read more

This is one of the closer grocery stores to my work so I frequent it for lunch and quick grocery pick ups. If you drive, don't mess around with bumper cars in the lot out front. Duck into the garage for ding free parking. When I'm feeling healthy, I walk there and get the salad bar. I am a self proclaimed salad bar professional. Want to be a salad bar pro like me? Here is how. How to work the salad bar like a BOSS: 1. Grab the big container; small container is for chumps. if you get the small container, you're gonna have a bad time. 2. Pull a Popeye and load up on Spinach. It's good for you, it weighs very little, and is a good bang for your buck. 3. Put some red onions on there because they're delicious. Just a couple though, they are not good bang for your buck and they will give you hot breath. 4. Grab a couple of those Mozzarella balls floating around with the tomatoes. Skip the tomatoes and avoid the juice. 5. Don't be fooled by the plain black olives, skip 'em. 6. Skip all that fruit stuff, it's heavy and doesn't belong in a BOSS salad. 7. Remember how we skipped those decoy olives? On the flip side of the salad bar, we have the marinated olives. Scoop out some of them avoiding as much of the juice as possible -- can't be weighing down the salad with olive juice. 8. For color, get a big scoop of crumbled bacon. Because bacon is friggin delicious. 9. Grab a couple pieces of chicken and/or eggs. Whatever you think came first. Not too much though, because they are heavy. Load up too much on eggs, and you're gonna have a bad time. 10. Finally, for dessert, sprinkle a few of those Cranberries from the plastic jar thing. Bang! for your buck, good for you, and don't weigh much. If you made your salad right, it should be like 4 or 5 bucks and be delicious. If you failed and piled on a bunch of that macaroni salad crap, you're gonna have a bad time at the register. read more

I'm going to piggyback off off Simeon T. The first time I discovered Harris Teeter, my friend told me about the uber cheap subs. We're talking 8 inches of meat piled high, lots of veggies, on your choice of 3 different breads. Is it good? Not really. Is it a good buy? Most definitely. For $2.99 (I think it was $2.50 before...), you definitely get your money's worth. My favorite is the steak and cheese with the chipotle mayo. Bring your camera phone with you so that you know which specials occur on which days. Every day, there is one hot sub and one cold sub on special. Except on Tuesday where ALL sandwiches are $2.99. Tuesday the line for this place is pretty ridiculous.... Anyways, as for the grocery shopping portion, they have a great selection, although their prices do seem a little higher than the local Giant down the street. I guess it's to pay for all the "organic" signs you see everywhere. I am still amazed that VA grocery stores do sell beer and wine, so I definitely take advantage of that. Not a bad grocery store. They seem to have higher prices though and try to make you think you are getting a discount with the VIC card. For instance they had a case of water for nearly $10, but half off with the VIC card. Anywhere else though it would normally be $5 anyways. For the sake of being a 24 hour grocery store, it serves its purpose perfectly. However, the experience becomes much more frustrating during the late night/early morning times. I went in at about 11pm and left almost at 11:40 even though I had fewer than 10 items. The cashier was absolutely clueless, incompetent, and in some ways disrespectful. The customer in front of me had her items on the belt with the divider clearly separating our items. The cashier had just checked out half of her items, and when the customer asked if she was going to ring up the rest of her items, the cashier asked "Oh I thought that was part of the other items, why didn't you say anything? Now I have to do this all over again." By the time I left, the line was a little over 10 people long, and she had just called for assistance to the front. If you need to go to a Harris Teeter, don't go to this one. read more

This is not my grocery store, I don't clip out coupons for here, I don't walk the aisles figuring out what I'm going to make for dinner. I come here for one reason, and one reason alone. Two words people: Deli Subs They're cheap and they're great, just as good if not better than any other deli in the area, especially better than Quiznos or Subway. A 1/2 sub is huge, and there is always a couple of sandwiches that only cost 2.99. On Fridays the special is a full sub which is basically an entire baguette, for 3.99! It's the steal of the century, and they know it, that's why they made lunch counters at the front of the store. I also like that I can get anything else I want at the grocery store at the same time, including but not limited to chips, pickles, drinks, and of course mops. Love Harris Teeter! I could go to Shopper's/Giant/Bloom but why? I've been a loyal fan of Harris Teeter for a few years now. I don't think that they're pricier than any of the stores around here, so why change? Also, I've bought a lot of their Harris Teeter branded products and to me, they're just as good as the name brands. Their sushi is pretty good, and I really do enjoy their subs, especially when you can get them on sale! This location in particular always seems exceptionally clean, and as always, gotta love that it's open 24 hours. The wife tries to get me to go elsewhere....but I don't want to. :) read more
