We went on a Sunday and the parking lot was packed so we had to circle to find a spot. Luckily, there seem to always be people coming AND going so it only took a few minutes. Freshfields Farm is split up into 3 distinct areas - the fresh meat store, the fresh produce store, and the ice cream (and hot dog) window. We decided to head to the meat entrance first. The area is not that big but it is just lots of selections of fresh meat, cheese and butter. The meats seemed to be pretty good prices, slightly below Publix where I normally shop. There was ground beef, turkey, steak, chicken and seafood. Plus some huge cuts of meat like picanha and ribs. If you are going to have a BBQ, this is the place to go. Also, workers were constantly bringing out new packages and some people were waiting for them. I picked up 2 pounds of ground beef and some boneless, skinless chicken breasts. The cashiers were nice and super quick. Then we headed outside and then next door to the produce section. Basically the same as the meat department but filled with produce. There were bins of fresh strawberries when we walked in as well as avocados, a whole section of bananas and plantains, rainbow carrots, and even full cacao pods! I'm guessing they just showcase fresh seasonal produce so for example, while there were fresh plums, I didn't see navel oranges. There was also a fridge case full of squeezed juices and lemonades. And a big section of various types of mushrooms. I got a package of sliced cantaloupe and a big pack of 30 eggs. We checked out the ice cream window, which looked super yummy but because we hadn't eaten lunch yet, we decided we'll come back another time to try it.

There are acres of blueberries growing in neat rows, and they're full of fruit. You enter the farm, park in a grassy field, grab a bucket at a table by the orchard, and head out to pick. The helpful people who give you the buckets tell you a bit about the varieties that they grow, and about the colored streamers on each row that tell you which variety is growing there. Here in Central Florida it gets hot early in the year, so the plants fruit early. What's comfy for the plants is comfy for us, so picking is usually in great weather. When you've finished picking enough, you take the bucket back to the table and pay for what you picked. By comparison, what costs you $8 at a store like Walmart costs you $6 at Beck Brothers farm. So go now, or plan for next April, and get enough blueberries to make your jam, your ice cream, your muffins and pies. Freeze the excess and you'll always be ready to eat the berries that your family and friends picked on a lovely Spring day.

Rising along U.S. Highway 192, the enormous fiberglass orange is one of those quirky roadside landmarks that makes you want to stop and take a picture. The story of Orange World dates back to 1971, when Eli Sfassie moved from Indiana to Florida and opened a Texaco gas station near the newly opened Walt Disney World. To take advantage of the growing number of tourists traveling through the area, he began selling souvenirs from the station's service bay. In 1988, Sfassie transformed the building into a giant orange at a cost of about $6,000. The resulting structure stands approximately 60 feet tall and has been promoted as the World's Largest Orange. In 2004, strong winds from hurricane Charley reportedly tore a giant decorative crystal ball from the nearby Giant Wizard gift shop. The enormous ball crashed onto the roof of Orange World, leaving a dent in the structure. According to local lore, the crystal ball was never found. In 2017 the giant orange has even appeared in Sean Baker's critically acclaimed film The Florida Project, adding to the colorful roadside scenery surrounding the movie's setting. Orange World suffered another setback in March 2023 when a fire broke out in the storage area above the gift shop, causing significant smoke damage to the interior. For a time, merchandise was sold outside while repairs were underway. The remodeled interior reopened in October 2024, bringing the attraction back to full operation. Today, Orange World sells fresh citrus, juice, orange trees, snacks, cookies, candy, honey, alligator jerky, sauces, jams and jellies, and a huge selection of Florida-themed souvenirs. Inside, you'll find plenty of inexpensive souvenir clothing, T-shirts, Disney and Universal merchandise, gifts, and other tourist memorabilia. I was surprised by how expensive the orange juice was. It was $3.50 for a small cup. Gallons were $14.99. While I absolutely love the giant orange itself, have to admit that I found the inside somewhat underwhelming. For me, the exterior is the star of the show. There is just something wonderfully nostalgic about this giant orange. If you enjoy quirky roadside attractions, classic Florida kitsch, and places that are fun to photograph, Eli's Orange World is definitely worth a quick stop. This is also inclusive of their dining options (i.e., their hot and cold bars, bakery, and the like). They have a range of household items, personal care items, toiletries, groceries, and so forth. So, again, you can usually find most of what you need. As far as their dining options go, I've gotten a hot lunch from Whole Foods on numerous occasions. I never eat there, but you can if you'd like, as they have a good amount of indoor and outdoor seating options to enjoy your meal. I'm usually not disappointed with the options. I also really enjoy a number of their soup options. The bakery is probably my favorite section! I'm always leaving Whole Foods with something sweet.
