I've been a loyal ALDI shopper for a long time, but this experience was extremely disappointing. I placed my items on the belt in a box, and the cashier repeatedly told me to remove the items. I had no issue doing so. The problem was her attitude. The cashier, Sara, began throwing her hands up as if I wasn't moving fast enough for her, which felt very disrespectful and unnecessary. It came across as if she assumed I didn't speak English or couldn't hear, so I calmly told her that I do speak English and that the extra gestures were not needed. Things escalated further when she got up from her seat and had her manager take over, and during that time her underwear was visibly showing, which I found extremely unprofessional and inappropriate. To make matters worse, she was telling me to remove my items before she had even finished checking out the customer ahead of me. I understand ALDI moves quickly, but there is no excuse for rude behavior or lack of professionalism. This interaction made me feel uncomfortable and disrespected, which is not what I expect from a store I shop at regularly. read more

This Aldi's is in the ghetto but it's really a diamond in the rough. Always stocked well, clean, Associates are quick and friendly. I live by Southport but I walk my dog a bit in Garfield Park so I stop by here often. Two thumbs up for this location. read more

Yes. Why, yes. I am in fact writing yet another review of Aldi. The more I go, the more I like it. I'd like to see other grocery stores take note of Aldi's no frills approach to grocery shopping. 39 cent avocados. Bring your own shopping bags. Queso prices that'll knock your socks off. I'm still drooling over the $2.99 Brie wheels. Enough about general Aldi fun facts - let's talk about the Madison Avenue location in particular. My sister has converted me to this not only closer, yet safer and cleaner location. ++An easy 10 minute drive from Downtown. Few stops and as my father would note if he were in the car - "less wear and tear on your vehicle." Because, let's face it Keystone sucks. ++Conveniently located next door to the Dollar Store. Knock out all of your errands in one hit. ++Clean and organized aisles. I appreciate how the "junk food section" is very limited at Aldis. ++As noted before, this one gives off a bit of a safer vibe. Don't ask me why. It might just be because it's newer. ++I'm not quite sure what it is about Aldi - the prices, floor plan, mindset? I always end up buying more produce during my visit that I do when at other grocery stores. Mangows, cauliflower, sweet potatoes, onions, bananas, avocados, carrots, cucumbers, tomatoes, oranges - yes, we bought it all and without the frugal blink of an eye. The ONLY thing holding me back from 5 stars? Herbs! Where in tarnations are the fresh herbs up in this place? That is all. Oh, and I forget they don't take credit cards every time. I've been going here every couple weeks for the last few months. It had been okay.....till today. One cashier, long line. He was laughing and joking with the lady who's groceries he was scanning....all $440+ worth of them. Then it took 3 tries for her card to work. Then they kept laughing and joking as the line got longer. Finally another cashier arrived. Of course, my groceries were already on the counter. Finally, i got my turn, groceries were rung up. After, while still in the store, i looked at my receipt: there were 2 items on it I didn't purchase. Really? So i waited until the cashier was between people and he took them off, after a couple tries. And "oh sorry, i must have been signing on" yeah, that's plausible....not going there again. read more

As a Southside Store, this has great service not associated with others in the area. They are efficient and friendly along with knowledgeable and caring. The products they carry are very good and I have been using for many years. Produce currently is not all organic but soon will be. The organic choices at this time are plentiful. read more

This Aldi location is quickly becoming my favorite in the near-downtown area. I used to go to the Keystone location (near Glendale) as I usually go to a few other stops in the area; however, this location has tickled my fancy enough to not go to the Glendale/Keystone area anymore. Reasons I come here compared to the Keystone location: - it's a bit larger - there seem to be more/better fresh produce (the Keystone location offered a lot of moldy produce the last few times I was there) - it's not as busy (or maybe it is but it's larger, so it doesn't feel like it) - the location is convenient and easy to get to/from downtown - the staff are friendly One thing I noticed that could use improvement would be to offer the new vegan options. They offer the burgers, but as of this writing, they don't offer the other options (i.e. meatless meatballs, chicken sandwiches and tenders). read more

I don't usually go this Aldi but I must say that this is the cleanest Aldi. The employees are so kind! Not only that, everything is always stocked. Love their produce. It's always fresh. Will be back! read more

This might be the best grocery in the downtown area. Very clean, wide isles, etc after the remodel. The staff is always very friendly and helpful. They carry an organic brand that is awesome! I suggest giving this place a try for your grocery needs. read more

Hey-oh....Aldi's!!! The cheap brother of Trader Joe's. I can handle that since I live on the southside. When mentioning that, this is a really nice facility and the cleanest on the southside. Great corner location that is easy to get in and out. The deals are swell here and they always have a lot more than some of the other southside Aldi's, which is great because we all know food is expensive and this is a great place to buy bulk goods, such as canned beans or tomatoes. They have a decent selection of produce and of course wine!! :) So grab an ad, do some shopping. Remember bring your own bags and a quarter for a cart. It's that easy. Really. I go to the Aldi on North Keystone. This is not the Aldi of 20 years ago. Many organic options, really good wine and beer choices, produce and the infamous special aisle that is restocked every Wednesday. Bring your own reusable bags and save a bunch of money on your groceries! read more

I really like this Aldi. It is very clean and none of the extra frills of the big box supermarkets. I order my meals via blue apron, so this is the perfect place to pick up some healthy snacks and breakfast items. Make sure you bring a quarter to "rent" the cart. The quarter is returned to you after you are finished. Also bring your own bags. Aldi now accepts credit cards (according to their website). I highly recommend the sweet potato chips located on your right when you first walk in. They have weekly specials which you can view online for extra savings. I am a huge fan of the fact that they have 100 calorie options and fit n' easy brands. I usually stick to packaged items but I have friends who buy the meat and have mentioned to pay attention to the expiration dates.My favorite part of Aldi is the fact that there aren't a million options. You might have one or two brands per item. Perfect! I personally don't need 17 different brands of ketchup. They also offer organic and a wide variety of gluten free items. Definitely work a stop in. Fun to see how much money you can save vs. what you would spend normally. read more

I've visited a few Aldis in/around Indianapolis, and this is by far the nicest and cleanest yet (also probably the largest). I came in just to grab a few items and ended up looking around wishing I had a quarter for a cart or the ability to grow an extra hand. Their selection was quite impressive in regards to fresh fruit & veggies (compared to the other Aldi's I've visited). Despite being in the not-so-nicest area of the near-Southside I can see myself returning. read more

Why wouldn't someone go to an affordable grocery store? You can buy so much good at Aldi's and save your precious $$. I have been to a few Aldi's in different locations, and they all have a very distinct smell. Not a terrible smell, just one that is noticeable when walking in the door. Have you found this to be true? I don't know, just an observation. A group of us went to Aldi the other day to buy fixings for a meat and cheese tray. Low and behold, we found all of our ingredients (for an affordable price.) People were impressed with our display of food ... and would never have guessed it came from Aldi. So, there! New to Fountain Square, I've been checking out the various grocery store options in the area. I was surprised to find that so far Aldi is one of the best of the bunch. I like a small grocery store with beautifully displayed produce and Aldi fits the bill. No, they won't have everything you need/want, especially not when it comes to toiletries. They also don't have a lot of foods marketed specially to vegetarians. However, you will find good looking produce, a wide variety of cheese, your everyday canned veggies and fruits, and random eclectic food items - all for much less money than you'd expect. Next time I won't come with a list and will instead let the food speak to me about what meal they can become! Other details... The store is clean and well lit with wide aisles. You can't pay with a credit card but debit cards are okay. Be prepared to bag your own groceries and bring your own grocery bags. And don't forget the quarter deposit to reserve and return your shopping cart. Keeping overhead low = low food costs for you! read more

I have just recently taken a liking to this place. I had them lumped in with Save a lot and just didn't want to go there. My darling wife drug me there and now I feel terrible for judging them. The biggest draw to this store is that they are the antithesis to big box stores. You can't get your oil changed here. Nor can you buy a new hoodie. What you can buy are groceries. Because it's a grocery store. And they have a lot of good deals. You will find primarily their brand of things. For instance, they don't have hot pockets. They have an off brand of pocket sandwiches that are very tasty. They also have take n bake pizzas that are $5.99 and they are delicious. So, if you are tired of dealing with the super stores and just want to buy groceries, Aldi's is your place. Not sure if this is relevant, but I've also been told they pay their employees considerably better than their competition. read more

The employees that work st this location are very rude as are the managers. I have stopped in there's twice when I have been on that side of town and am not impressed. The workers are all busy talking to each other when there are people lined back 5 to 6 deep and treat you terrible for being in line. I was told by cashier she would take me next but she went to the back and made me wait longer than if I would have just stayed in the other line. Then she proceeded to tell me how to putting my stuff on counter was easier if it was out of the box. I politely replied well if someone would have been up at their register when I was unloading my cart and waiting and waiting and waiting to get waited on and told me then it sure would have been out of the box!!!! Although this may be hard to believe, I never been to an Aldi before I visited this store. Despite hearing wonderful things about it, I typically shopped for groceries at overly priced mass -chain supermarkets. Aldi in Fountain Square was a welcomed surprise! I was able to try new brands that I never heard of and save tons on money. I enter this Aldi location with the intent to pick up only a few items. However, by the time I reached the cash register, my shopping cart was very full! I was a bit nervous at how much everything would costs me, but I saved so much money ! The food quality and the prices will definitely make me come back! read more

This Aldi is OK for bargains if you know what you are looking for and are willing to put up with some frustration (see below). Some prices are better here than at the nearby Kroger or K-Mart, but some prices aren't, so shop carefully. I shop here only for certain items. Things to know: 1.) This store doesn't accept credit cards (not a big deal if you know that ahead of time) 2.) Bring your own grocery bags - as a cost saving measure they don't give them out and if you need them you will be charged (embarrassing and annoying if you don't know this ahead of time). 3.) Certain sale items will be gone by the time you get there (especially wine) and this happens often enough that it is very frustrating. 4.) They will sometimes be out of even very common items for weeks (Beef Ramen noodles in cups) 5.) If you shop later in the evening, they will have only one register open and you WILL have to wait in line for a LONG time. Bottom Line: Your savings will come at a cost! read more
