We've attended a few of these over the past year or so, the most recent being at the start of December and held in one of the greenhouses which had been festively decorated for the occasion. The ingredients for these dinners includes vegetables from Dog Patch as well as other local producers of meat, fruits, honey, and more in keeping with Dog Patch's mission of inspiring the health of humans, the community, and the land through supporting local food and farm-inspired products. Chefs vary from dinner to dinner but all are local and well-selected by owner Jenny and her husband Eric. It starts with the store manager, Jenny, who is a terrific human but also provides great customer service due to her awareness, enthusiasm, and customer service. Her store is roomy, clean, and comfortable. Plenty of parking is adjacent. Multiple tables are inside, and a microwave is available if you're eating in. Many prefer their Grab n Go option. They also have a nutritionist (Becca) on staff to aid your habits and health. The large menu includes identified new items, and they offer local delivery (which we will do once moved). All items are nicely displayed in their wall-length fridge, and there were no sales-type moves by Jenny throughout. There were a good amount of premade meals still available to choose from and plenty of baked goods in the bakery. We enjoyed this shopping experience and think I would shop here more often if I lived in this area.

It seems to last longer than that of other grocers in the area. Chicken prices are the cheapest in town, and the dairy is pretty well priced too. If you aren't familiar with what Aldi offers, don't go in there thinking you can get everything you get at HyVee or Fareway. This is a no frills grocery store with basic items. You still have to deposit a quarter for the use of a cart, which you will get back, and you have to pay for bags to put your groceries in, but it's all good. If you know what Aldi has, then you know. If you don't know, that's fine. But don't complain about that they do/don't have. They have what they have a good prices. If it's not for you, go somewhere else.

Sign me up! I can kill a couple hours in Waukee. I swung into the Wine & Spirits department and picked up a ticket about 400 PM. The raffle was at 600 PM. Between 400 and 600 PM I grabbed some Hy-Chi and ran a couple other errands. Quite the whiskey selection at this location! The raffle kicked off right at 600 PM and was very well run. The staff was polite and did an awesome job. It was great to get to network and spend some time with others with similar interests. The bourbon community is just that...a community. And walking away with a bottle Eagle Rare at MSRP was pretty cool too...!

Something has happened at Fareway. They've always been known for prices and their meat department…read more The prices have stayed low but everything else has slipped about Fareway. The meat department employees have no clue what each cut of meat is. Knowing the difference be variance cuts of beef and pork is your jobs. The chicken doesn't taste like chicken and per my wife I'm forbidden to purchase Fareway chicken. The produce department puts everything into zip-lock bags. The fruit is bruised and the lettuces are almost always wilted and slimy. I keep coming back hoping that someone will change things, well that and it's right in my path home. But I wonder how much longer I will keep it up with so many newer options surfacing.
